He made my dream wedding dress from a few photographs and several meetings with me. I received so many compliments on the dress, and IMHO it was perfect. I knew exactly what I wanted in a wedding dress, but unfortunately was discouraged by what designers were making. I knew I wanted a tea length wedding dress for sure. I really liked Monique Lhuillier, but none of her designs were my true ideal. I wanted something that was a little more "me," but I have no clue how to sew and obviously wasn't going to learn that quickly. After speaking with several tailors in the area, I chose St. Clair bc he was within my budget and extremely personable and professional. I am so glad I made that decision. So I have tried this place out three times now. Like other reviews mention, the pricing at this place is very much inflated. The first time I went, I brought in a pair of pants that they charged me $35 to hem and I wore them one time and the hem fell out halfway through the day. I never went back to get it fixed, but I should have. The second time I went, I got the seams reinforced on a dress and a thin skirt hemmed and it was $60 - again - way too pricey for simple services, but the result was fine. The third time is where I ran into real problems. I brought in a dress that I was wearing to a wedding. I thought it would be relatively simple to alter - the bust was a tad too big, and it needed a hem. St. Clair explained to me that this was a HUGE project because he had to take the whole top of the dress apart to make it fit right and wanted to charge me $240 to do it. I was taken aback! I told him there was no way I could pay that - so he goes on and on about the amount of work but he could drop it to $210. I told him I would think about and asked him to hold the dress. I only spent $190 on the dress so I just couldn't fathom spending more on alterations than the dress was worth. I tried finding another dress but couldn't so I just gave in and told him to do the alterations - I was in a crunch! He did the alterations very quickly, and when I went in to try it on, the bust looked horrible!!! I basically had pointy madonna boobs! I told him that it needed to be fixed, and he said he would fix it. For the amount of money he was charging I expected much better tailoring. I came in later that day and one boob was still pointy and pulling. Unacceptable work for the amount he was charging. And I was leaving early the next day and it was 4:30pm! He said he would fix it. When taking the dress off the lining got super stuck in zipper. When I looked at the work he did around the zipper (he had to pull the zipper out apparently), I saw that he very unevenly sewed the zipper back in, and the lining was overlapping it, causing major problems when getting the dress on or off. It took 30 minutes for him to get the zipper unstuck and resulted in ripping the dress lining to get it out. He kept repeating that this was a rush job, which is totally ridiculous. When I asked him to hold the dress I specifically asked him the latest day I could let him know if I wanted the alterations, and I let him know by that day first thing in the morning. If it was too much of a rush than he should have told me an earlier day. For the subpar work he did, he should have discounted the dress. He did give me $20 off the hem (which he wanted to charge $45 for) and kept repeating how much work this was. I also purchased the $50 for $75 voucher through yelp. When I went to pay the bill, I presented the $75 voucher and he refused to take it. He was trying to tell me that "Tima Bespoke" is not even the name of his business (even though his wife's name is FaTIMA) and that he never authorized yelp to put up a coupon and has asked them to take it down and they won't. Absolutely ridiculous - He clearly just didn't want to honor the coupon. I was in a rush and didn't have time to fight anymore with him, so I stupidly paid the full price of $195 for a really horrible alteration. I am terrified to even wear the dress because of the zipper issue, and went and just purchased another dress. What a waste of money and time. Update to the review - I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and he will not respond to them either to remedy this issue. read more

I've taken a number of pieces to St. Claire for alterations: suits, blazers, pants, etc. and he has done a great job. One piece, in particular, was a cashmere blazer that I had custom made in China. They made it too big and I took it in to St. Claire. He told me he could bring up the sleeves, but if I wanted it to fit well, I'd have to bring in some of the body of the jacket and fix the shoulders. It's a very nice jacket and I decided to go for it. He charged me 300 for the jacket, which included a lot of work. It came out very well. I lost a little weight since he fixed it and when I went in with another piece, he offered to make the next changes for free. I've read some of the other reviews with very low scores and their experience could not be more different from mine. He does good work, for reasonable prices, and he'll tell you what needs to be done to your clothing, not what will make him the most money. He's not the cheapest tailor there is, but you definitely get a lot for your money. My suits look great and I feel that it was definitely worth the cost. read more

While I am sure the tailoring of the tux I took in was very good, I give my review based on the business practices. When I first took the tux in, I was going only based on the reviews I read here. After quite a long fitting, I was a bit shocked when they told me the price was just over $200. Honestly I got the tux on sale and it wasn't much more than that cost for the tailoring. I was upset, but I figured I didn't ask up front, so that was on me and I sucked it up. I went back for my post first try fitting and there was some minor adjustments that needed to be made. No big deal. The big deal came when I just went to pick it up and tried it on for a good fitting. As I started to leave the lady, owner I assume, said "Oh wait, I did extra work on the pants, we only charged you originally for a hem." The price? Another $50 .. Now Im past the price I paid for the suit. My issue was that she NEVER mentioned another charge, I would have never accepted it and just left the pants as they were, it was nothing that looked horrible. She told me today as we tried the suit on she noticed they were a little baggy. She should have said, they are a little baggy, for $X more I can taper the leg ... Sadly, I paid more on tailoring than I did the tux and feel like I paid at least $100 too much, especially considering how they handled the entire process. read more

I've been going to St. Claire and Fatima for five years, and they both do an amazing job every time. In particular, they have fixed a few bridesmaid dresses for me, and actually made those tricky dresses look really good! I also genuinely enjoy the experience of going in there, they're great people! Fatima has also provided helpful suggestions for how to make pieces more flattering or fashionable. For example, I had brought in a dress with a ripped sleeve for her to fix, and she suggested shortening the sleeves while she was fixing it anyway to make it more youthful and stylish, and she was right. Another time, with a bridesmaid dress, she suggesting making an alteration to make the neckline more flattering. She was very upfront about the extra cost. I decided not to make that alteration, but she was spot on that it would have been more flattering. As for the cost, tailoring is expensive. You would't expect a plumber to come to your house for 15 bucks, and the same goes for good tailoring. So it's not cheap, but their work is high quality and they have a good eye. They are also very upfront about how much things will cost, and I sometimes talk to them about what changes I can forgo to bring the price down. They are also fast, and call me to let me know when my pieces are ready. All in all, they are great, and I continue to take my business there! read more

The tailor was friendly, but the finished product fell well below my expectations. I brought a made-to-measure suit to him that needed significant alterations. Before agreeing to pay his fee--nearly $400--I asked: you're sure that you'll be able to make the suit look really good for that price. He said that aside from an issue with the shoulders that he would be able to do so. He did not. The jacket is still ill-fitting--looks worse than something you would buy off the rack. Too big in some places and too small in others. Also, the suit wasn't ready when he initially said it would be, so I needed to make an extra trip there to pick it up. And when I went in for the initial fitting, he had forgotten to do the pants. When I finally did pick up the suit, he mentioned that there were a few things that he wanted to do but couldn't. Nevertheless, he didn't keep an actual list of the things he had done, so when I asked to see a list of the alterations, he tried to write one from memory. Simply put: I paid a lot of money for a suit that I probably won't wear due to fit issues. I wish that he had been upfront about not being able to make the suit look better. Had we not moved forward with the alterations, I could have returned the suit for a full refund. Now, I'm out the cost of the suit and the alterations. read more

If I could give Bespoke Design 10 stars, I would. It is all because of Fatima, the wonderful seamstress/tailor/designer who made my dream wedding dress in less than 2 days. I called Bespoke Design on a Sunday, less than one week before my wedding day. For several months prior, I had been working with a different seamstress whom I had hired to make me a custom wedding dress. I had given the other seamstress a photo for her to use as the model for the dress. After months of fittings, the wedding dress turned out to be a disaster. I called Bespoke Design the Sunday before my wedding, immediately after the custom dress was finally delivered to me. The store was closed, but Fatima happened to answer her phone. I explained to her that I was in a desperate situation because my wedding dress had been delivered to me full of problems. I asked her if she could at least take a look and let me know if she could fix it. Fatima agreed to come into the store for me when it was closed because she knew it was an emergency. She examined the dress, which was given to me in such terrible condition that Fatima explained she might as well make me a new dress. The problem was that I had a flight to catch early Wednesday morning to leave for my wedding, which was out of town. Fatima knew this was going to be a huge challenge, but she agreed to make me a dress in the short amount of time we had. She started the dress FROM SCRATCH that Monday morning, worked nonstop, and was able to deliver my finished dress to me Tuesday evening in time for me to leave for my wedding. Not only did she make me a gorgeous dress, but she made me THE dress that I wanted, based on the model photo, in less than 48 hours. She was able to do this with just the materials she had on hand or that were available nearby (she didn't have enough time to order fabrics from out of town). And she did this in the most supportive and kind way, understanding that I was in a very vulnerable situation and feeling extremely anxious and stressed. I knew right away that I could trust her because she is just the type of person that inspires confidence. And in the end, she not only delivered, but she exceeded expectations. I have been patronizing Bespoke Design for three years, having my clothing altered by both Fatima and St. Claire, and have ALWAYS been pleased! Because of my small waist, hips, short torso, and penchant for wanting the original design modified (even if only slightly), a good portion of my clothing is altered. So much so that when I decide to purchase an article of clothing, I factor in alteration costs. I also shop mostly online (for convenience and options) and never make a decision to purchase based on how the article of clothing looks on the model, but rather how I envision it looking on me. As such, I have complete confidence in Bespoke's Design's expertise and ability to bring my fashion ideas to life. From a customer service standpoint, I have made several last minute requests, including "same-day," and Bespoke Design has ALWAYS accommodated them. They have even waited for me after closing hours to pick up items that I absolutely needed to have for an event or trip. That said, I echo previous posters' sentiment that you get what you pay for. When I try on my clothing after Fatima and St. Claire have worked their magic, the fit is perfect; my clothes look like they were made just for me. UPDATE I got my suit back today - flawless. I get all of my clothes tailored slim/euro fit, whatever you'd like to call it. The suit I brought in (hugo boss) has an even greater cut- Cost for the jacket was approx $70 ($35-45 to take in on the sides/upper back, $30 for sleeves shortening, which is overpriced in my opinion - reasonable cost for sleeve shortening would be approx $17 because it is not skill intensive). However, St Clair did a great job and I'll be going back soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went for consultation, asking if I would be able to get a jacket tailored. I had to have my wedding dress taken in at the last minute (read the week before my wedding) and they were completely accommodating. There was a lot of intricate lace that needed to be reworked and I couldn't even tell where it had been altered. The price was really reasonable, especially considering the time frame and the fine detail work required. The owner was telling me about how he recently sewed his own daughter's wedding dress! St. Claire, the owner of this shop, is an excellent tailor. He is great at his craft and is a nice man to boot. He has altered several pairs of slacks, jeans, and suits for me and I've always been pleased. I think that his prices are great for what he does. I've paid less to get him to alter jeans then I did from a dry cleaners near me in Cathedral Heights. I have to say that the 1, now 2 star review is kind of rubbish. A google search instantly turns up the correct number. I think that people should be rated based on your experience while working with them, not the fact that I couldn't locate their telephone number. But, that's just my two cents. read more

Consumate professionalism. I have been a customer for over 2 years now, and the results are always impeccable. The one thing you need to know up front, is that you are going to pay a premium, for premium craftsmanship. This is not the "tailor" at the back of the suit store, who does a $10 hem. St. Clair, the owner has completely reconstructed several of my suits and jackets, due to my body style, and given me a sharp, clean look every single time. His work can often rival the cost of what the suit originally cost when buying a cheap suit, but he can make a bargain purchase look like hand made original. What ever suit you take in, if you trust and let him do what he says needs to be done, it will be the best garment in your wardrobe. read more

I've been going to St. Clair and Fatima for about three years, largely based on the early reviews posted on Yelp. Over the years, I've probably brought them about 30 items to be altered (suits, pants, jackets, etc). The work has always been perfect. They certainly charge more than most dry cleaners, but they're on par or less than most of their actual competitors (real tailors). They've done a great job on everything I've brought them, but more importantly have always been up front with me on what's possible and how much it will cost. The process usually works like this. I bring in a garment to be altered and try it on. It gets pinned and chalked up, and I get changed back into whatever I was wearing before. Then I bring the garment out and get the total. If the price seems high to me (as it has once or twice), we walk through what alterations are going to be made and figure out what is expendable or where money can be saved. They don't have a price list on the wall or anything, but the cost for specific alterations has always been consistent (hemming pants or shortening jacket sleeves always costs the same amount every time), and they're willing to do more or less to help you stay within your budget. Where they're most valuable, however, is when something just doesn't fit. I buy lots of clothing online and second hand, and St. Clair and Fatima usually make it look like it was custom made for me. A few times, however, they've told me that items just didn't fit, and, though they were willing to let a jacket out or take pants in, it wouldn't look right. That's led me to return or resell items that they could have charged me a lot of money to alter. These guys have done my tuxedo for my wedding, many suits, including fixing a made to measure error, and have even altered several of my wife's dresses to great result. The quality of work combined with the straightforward attitude and friendly service make them my choice for all my alterations. Are they the cheapest option in town? Definitely not. I found this shop here on Yelp originally. I must say that I'm very pleased with St. Clair's work. He's maybe slightly pricey, but I feel like I got what I paid for. I had him alter a new suit (jacket and pants)... probably an average level of work... he turned it around in a week and it fits great. I just dropped off another suit that will need more work than the first one. I have confidence that it'll be great. He seems to know what he's doing. If you go on a weekend, call first to make sure he's working. Then go to the front door of the 1100 building and ring the buzzer on the far right. The security person will let you in. read more

I have been going to St. Clair for a couple years. I have brought them several difficult custom requests for alterations on coats, jackets, pants, and jerseys. They do impeccable work. I would highly recommend them. If you care about quality and detail they are a great option. In Addition Fatima has a terrific eye. Great work!! Fatima is amazing. I brought in an off-the-rack suit to be adjusted and Fatima did a superb job fitting the suit to my figure. She has an eye for precision and detail - and will spend the time to get it right (e.g. If necessary, multiple fittings to hone in on just the right fit). After altering my new suit, I brought her an old suit of mine that was in good condition but needed some help. She expertly fixed the worn sticking around the pockets and re-fitted the jacket so it better matched my profile. This suit went from the back of my closet as a backup to the front as my go-to. This is the WORST place I have ever been to. I would vehemently discourage anyone from bringing their business here. I took a ball gown in to get fitted and when I arrived there at least an hour before closing time I was told that their seamstress wasn't in and I should come back another time. No big deal, I went in on Monday and had the dress fitted and was told to expect a phone call to come in for a second fitting before I picked up the dress the following Monday. I did not receive a phone call and assumed they had not finished altering the dress yet. When I went to pick up my dress on Monday, the store was closed and I was left without a gown for the Inaugural Ball. Needless to say that was an absolute disaster. I picked up my dress the following day and was told that as soon as St. Clair spoke to Fatima, he would refund my money no issues. He said that he had been planning to come in on Monday but because of the traffic and closed streets because of the inauguration, he wasn't able to make it in. So just to be clear the store was supposed to be open on Monday. He told me he would call again the following day. I did not receive a phone call. I called him the day after and asked if he had spoken with her yet and she claimed she had called and left a voice mail. I confirmed with my cell phone bill in a detailed statement that there had been no call received from their number let alone a voice message. St. Clair then said that he had never said he would refund my money and told me that they didn't do anything wrong even though when I spoke with him just a two days before he said that he would refund my money without any issues. Then, while on the phone with me, Fatima refused to listen to anything I was saying and then very rudely HUNG UP ON ME. When I called her back to ask her exactly when she had called me so that I could check on my statement she said "I don't remember" and again refused to listen to me. I would really recommend taking your business elsewhere. Both St. Clair and Fatima have no idea how to run this business and have no business ethics let alone respect when it comes to their customers. read more

St. Clair did an excellent job with a dress I needed in a rush. Fatima provided expert suggestions on how best to alter the dress to fit my body. It was a complicated job -- she cut the neck down, built a jewel for a strap, and hemmed it -- but she did great. She was patient and kind throughout my fittings, and I'd go to her again. read more

I went to St Clairs for the second time after he tailored a tux for my wedding 4 years ago. The tux required major work given my size and how the size of the tux I had to purchase was, but he produced a perfect fit on the first try and within a week, I got the tux back. This time it was for a suit and again, one week later, a perfectly fitting suit was delivered. Yes, it is not cheap, but compared to other tailors who only work to get sleeve and pant lengths perfect, Bespoke Design (St Clairs) fits every aspect. read more
