As many reviewers have already said, Lam Couture did a wonderful job with alterations for my wedding dress, despite the quick turnaround I needed. I had a preowned wedding dress purchased online, which fit me all right but had a few loose buttons and tears. When I took it to Lam Couture (after making an appointment via phone), the owner also noticed that the buttons in the back were misaligned (because the original dress had also been altered), and there was extra room in the back that could be hemmed in. All in all, I was very pleased with how well the finished dress fit and how nice the adjusted bustle looked. The price also was reasonable. LAM Couture is the only place I trust for alterations. I regularly attend events that require formal evening attire and LAM Couture delivers impeccable service for each gown I wear. Lan and Kathy have tremendous expertise and are extremely knowledgeable about fabrics and how clothing should be tailored. I bring in gowns and they swiftly identify what alterations are needed so the gown fits like a glove. One of my gowns was full, head to toe sequins that needed several adjustments. Lan and Kathy added bra cups (a must for backless gowns), realigned the front slit to lay smoothly, and took it in several inches. When I picked it up, it fit perfectly and I received so many compliments at the event! Another gown had lightweight fabric in which a zipper caused a slight bump. Lan adjusted the zipper so it now lays flat understand the fabric. Truly, Lan and Kathy can fix anything and everything! LAM Couture will also work with you to create custom pieces. I was *really* hoping that I wouldn't have to alter my wedding dress - it fit me almost perfectly with the exception of the hem being just a hair too long. By the time I finally admitted to myself that I wanted to wear flats i(nstead of the heels that would be needed to fix the length) it was 6 weeks before my wedding and the middle of COVID. Lam Couture to the rescue! They were able to get me an appointment later that week (most of the other shops I reached out to didn't have any appointments until after my wedding) and told me that the fix would take 2-3 weeks, perfect! I came in for a very safe fitting (they wore masks and face shields, sanitizer is provided and appointments allow for appropriate distancing) and got back a very reasonable quote for the fix. The hemming took about three weeks and though I had to reach out a few times to find out about the timing I was very impressed by Kim and team. I just picked it up from the final fitting and it looks lovely! Excited to wear it on my wedding day and not trip down the aisle :) read more

I was impressed with every aspect of my experience at LC. From the reviews it looked like LC is mainly formal/custom clothes but they did an amazing job when I got alterations for several casual summer dresses as well as a button down top made out of a delicate gauzy fabric. Kathy was incredibly responsive to my texts and emails, she accommodated my timeline and had the alterations ready when she said they'd be ready. (including two day pick up for a last minute change after the second fitting). Pricing was lower than expected for the location! While she was unable to provide a price estimate based on photos of the dresses, I understand why once I came in for a fitting. Kathy and her mom spent a lot of time listening to what I was going for and helped me achieve it -- I appreciated that the process felt like a collaboration, and that Kathy gave her honest opinion on what worked best for my figure. Also FYI -LC did not have shareware/foundation garments for sale, but they did have a selection of beautiful bridal veils in different styles all in the ballpark of $100. Kathy has a great eye for selecting which veil goes with a dress. More details about my specific alterations in case it helps: Two of the dresses I brought in were white, cotton knee/midi length, with eyelets/lace and I was going to pick one to wear for my casual beach wedding -- they were literally nothing special- a final sale banana republic dress and a NWT express dress I got from the internet. They technically fit, but I took them to LC specifically for Kathy's expertise/vision - she made both look so much more flattering! My first choice had these big dramatic sleeves that I really liked but Kathy and her mom convinced me to let them take out some of the fabric -- I hadn't realized how bulky the dress had been! - after the alteration I seriously looked like I lost 6 pounds and they maintained the puffy look of the sleeves that made me get the dress in the first place! The other dress (my "back up" option) Kathy transformed it to such an extent by the way she shortened both layers to different lengths while maintaining embellishments on the hem that I ended up wearing it for the ceremony. Another plus - Kathy made it so the neckline on one of the dresses was compatible with my favorite bra (no dealing with strapless all day!). I brought in a wedding dress I bought online and they removed a layer of satin, hemmed 3 layers of tulle + 1 layer of satin, took out the straps that were slightly tight, took out the waist that was slightly tight, and added a bustle. I had an initial consultation appointment during which they were not pushy at all and suggested the initial recommendations for the work they would do. They texted a few days later with the final recommendations and price quote. I did one dress fitting that took approximately 45 minutes. They did require an extra day on my dress hemming alteration, even after having it for a week, but didn't offer any discount for the delay. Because they are separates and do not require a bustle, I assumed it would cost less to alter the pieces. I was so happy with the service and alterations I received at Lam Couture! The mother-daughter team who helped me were so amazing and made me feel so comfortable that my wedding dress was in good hands, and their attention to the details was top notch without much time to spare. Ah. Maz. Ing. Look, DC is tough. Everything is expensive and needs ten year's notice. These ladies are magicians, I had two weeks to get a fairly complicated bridesmaids dress altered. All the alterations, not just a simple hemline. The price was reasonable, expensive for normal people but a solid bargain for DC. They were very attentive to making sure everything was pinned and marked and explained what they were doing, why, and what the price would be. Fast forward and I just picked up the dress and it is PERFECT. Wizardry. I'm short and round, your basic pumpkin shape, and they managed to fit this dress. And she remembered me! Walking distance from McPherson metro too. Go see these ladies, they do it right. No gimmicks, no hidden fees, just careful craftsmanship. Maybe you can find cheaper for simple alterations, but for something that really counts don't cut corners and let them make it perfect. read more

I purchased a custom wedding dress from Etsy which was made only using my measurements and without trying it on first. I knew I would need at least some alterations to the dress before the wedding. once I found Lam Couture, I had my initial appointment around mid April. I originally thought I would need a bralette piece attached to the main dress to keep the dress up but Kathy knew immediately on sight that I needed the bralette taken out a little and the dress sleeves taken in. After leaving the dress with Kathy, I was contacted in early May with pricing and once payment was made, I had the dress by the end of May fitting perfectly and ready to travel in early June to my international wedding. The sleeves fit perfectly and throughout the wedding day, I never had to adjust my dress. Kathy and her mom were so sweet and very knowledgeable about how a dress should fit. I have had REAL trouble finding a decent tailor in this city, and have had some bad experiences. So I'm glad to have finally found this place. It's pretty pricey, yes, but they did a great job with my vintage 1950s dresses. One needed to be taken in at the waist and hemmed, and the other needed to be shortened in the torso (which required taking out the zipper). So most of these alterations were not basic, and I expected to pay a bit more. In the end, this place is very nice and clean, in plain view of the street so you're not wandering through a creepy building / up rickety staircases, and when the alterations are done, they are placed on a rack (not folded on the floor like I've experienced in other places). When you pick them up, they neatly fold them in a bag for you. I will be back! read more

I've taken many garments, casual and formal, to be altered in all sorts of ways and they have never disappointed me once! They always get everything done in a timely manner and always communicate how long it will take and how much it will cost. They also do phenomenal bespoke suits! I recently had a suit and a Tuxedo made by them and they came out great! The pricing will depend on what quality of fabric you choose but regardless of the fabric the overall suit is exceptional. The jacket was full-canvas which is something typically reserved at much higher price points at other tailors in DC. They got the suits done in about four weeks plus an additional week for final alterations. I took a dress here to be altered and thought they did a good job. I haven't done enough alterations to really understand how reasonable the pricing was, but it seems on par with other places I've gone to. My one annoyance was that I had called the week before to let them know I would be picking up the dress the following Monday, and when I came in they seemed surprised and needed more time to finish it. The alterations I had done were fine, super simple, just replacing an elastic band on a skirt that had broken. They charged like $15, which I thought was fair, but my mediocre rating is based on an isolated bad customer service incident. I took the skirt in on a Monday and said, "I need this skirt fixed but ONLY if you can get it done by next Monday." Of course, of course they said. I needed it that day because I was leaving the following morning at 6am for an international trip where I planned to wear the skirt to a wedding! So imagine my surprise and frustration when I get a call on Friday afternoon from LAM Couture saying "Sorry we are busy we will have your skirt done on Wednesday." WHAT?! It legit probably takes them 15 minutes to fix, and I explained my timing predicament when I dropped it off. After a bit of back and forth ("Ok, what about Tuesday!") and me saying I was gonna head over there and pick it up that moment, she agreed to have it done by 6pm on Monday. This small incident makes me not want to bring anything back to Lam couture, which is a shame because they have really great yelp reviews. Although you may have to wait for a little bit if there are others in the store, it is worth is as they give you 100% of their attention when you are being helped. Khanh is great!!! I've walked by this place for years without realizing how much of a gem it was until a few weeks ago. I ordered a dress online for a wedding and when it arrived it was too small around my chest area. I did not know how the heck I was going to fix it considering that there was not enough fabric to zip up my dress from the back. I stopped by without an appointment which was fine, they were very flexible and accommodating. Khanh measured me and discussed with me the options available to fix my dress problem. I told them that I would need the dress fixed within one wk and they worked with me to meet that deadline even with a holiday weekend. When I came to pick up the dress, it was perfect. They were able to add fabric to the back of the dress that was very subtle and blended well with my white and pink floral dress. The price was very affordable esp for the great service I've received. I lost some baby fat, so my suit bottoms were looking like pajama pants instead of business pants. I had a business conference to go to in 5 days and I was doomed. I called up plenty of tailor places but the majority of alterations were not done in house and there was no guarantee that my alterations would be complete on time. Thankfully, I found Lam Couture on Yelp (Yelp never fails!) and I was able to walk in the same day, take measurements, and walk out feeling that I made another right decision in my life. The ladies were very efficient, quick, and professional. I stepped in the store, and went straight to the changing section to try on my pants. As soon as my pants were on, measurements started to take place. It was obvious where the pants needed to pulled in, plus these ladies were fully aware of the professional look - not too tight around the booty/thighs area. Since I am a curvaceous woman, I was nervous that the pants might be too tight but all of my worries subsided when I tried on the finished product. Both of my pants fit amazing- the pants were hemmed, the waist was taken in, and the legs were tapered. Going to LAM Couture was more cost effective than buying another pair of pants.
