Mrs Lam made me beautiful for my wedding! Mrs Lam has meticulous attention to detail, and vision for what would look and be best. For example, she noticed that my bustle would look much much better if it came in from both sides (to form a little bow like area). Mrs Lam also moved the location of the bustles higher so that the length of the dress could sit lower when bustled, and could remain long without needing to be shortened; she later added two little bows to make the bustle easier to pull back and hide. In the front, Mrs Lam made the length perfect, so that it remained long, but I could move around freely. Every time someone saw me in the dress they would say, "WOW!" I felt in very good hands with Mrs Lam and that she contributed greatly to making my wedding experience aesthetically pleasing and physically comfortable. I recommend Mrs Lam unreservedly and am so grateful for her beautiful work! read more

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about working with Kathy Lam. She altered my wedding dress and somehow made it feel like a completely custom gown made just for me. The fit was absolutely perfect -- flattering, comfortable, and seamless in every way. She listened so carefully to what I wanted and executed it flawlessly. If you are looking for someone talented, meticulous, and genuinely invested in your happiness, she is the one. read more

Kathy did a fantastic job altering my wedding dress and captured my vision for the dress! I didn't want a long train or bustle, so Kathy and her mom altered the train and created a beautiful finger loop so that I could hold up the end of the dress without a bustle. It looked beautiful and elegant! They were also able to add some soft fabric to the seams so that the dress wouldn't irritate my skin. Thank you! read more

My husband and I recently got married (May 2025) and Lam Couture did an absolutely wonderful job tailoring my wedding dress and his suit! The dress was fitted and hemmed to perfection and they did an amazing French bustle (and even added a finger loop last minute for me)! The attention to detail, communication, timeliness, and ease made the entire process stress-free and the price was very reasonable for the work done. Cannot recommend them enough for any tailoring or alteration needs! read more

Lam Couture is the best! I had them tailor a dress and a sheer cape. Their work was impeccable. They did it very quickly, the price was very fair and they were wonderful to work with. I highly recommend Lam! read more

As many reviewers have already said, Lam Couture did a wonderful job with alterations for my wedding dress, despite the quick turnaround I needed. I had a preowned wedding dress purchased online, which fit me all right but had a few loose buttons and tears. When I took it to Lam Couture (after making an appointment via phone), the owner also noticed that the buttons in the back were misaligned (because the original dress had also been altered), and there was extra room in the back that could be hemmed in. All in all, I was very pleased with how well the finished dress fit and how nice the adjusted bustle looked. The price also was reasonable. My now-husband also got his wedding suit altered here, per my recommendation, and had a very positive experience. The owners of Lam Couture are perfectly professional and friendly. We also felt very safe and comfortable with their COVID precautions. read more

My husband has been coming here for 4 years for all of his tailoring needs and loves them. Then, last year after having trouble landing on a wedding dress, he suggested I try Lam Couture. They made me a beautiful wedding dress, and ended up also making my Mother in Law's dress. Highly recommend for either bespoke clothing or tailoring! read more

Lam Couture has done two of my 3-piece suits (including my wedding suit) and they have been absolutely stunning every time. Their craftsmanship is unmatched and I highly recommend them as a professional tailor. Great turnaround time and excellent value. My wife has also had several dresses altered by them and they each look amazing. They will always be my go-to tailor. read more

I was *really* hoping that I wouldn't have to alter my wedding dress - it fit me almost perfectly with the exception of the hem being just a hair too long. By the time I finally admitted to myself that I wanted to wear flats i(nstead of the heels that would be needed to fix the length) it was 6 weeks before my wedding and the middle of COVID. Lam Couture to the rescue! They were able to get me an appointment later that week (most of the other shops I reached out to didn't have any appointments until after my wedding) and told me that the fix would take 2-3 weeks, perfect! I came in for a very safe fitting (they wore masks and face shields, sanitizer is provided and appointments allow for appropriate distancing) and got back a very reasonable quote for the fix. The hemming took about three weeks and though I had to reach out a few times to find out about the timing I was very impressed by Kim and team. I just picked it up from the final fitting and it looks lovely! Excited to wear it on my wedding day and not trip down the aisle :) read more

Kathy and Lam Couture are amazing! My wife and I bought dresses from a website online and needed significant tailoring work done. We were referred to Lam by a friend and we're so happy we went with them! They are extremely skilled and their attention to detail and craftswomanship are absolutely impeccable. We've never felt more beautiful in our lives and can't thank Lam Couture enough for being a part of our special day! read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Kathy and the rest of the folks at Lam Couture! In the past couple of years I have visited them a bunch for items related to weddings I was in as well as my own, plus referred several friends to them for alterations etc! Since that experience I have also brought several everyday items for hemming, repair etc. Every single piece that they have worked on for me or friends of mine has turned out incredible. I had several items that were too small that Lam Couture made bigger and several items that were too big that they tailored to fit just right! My wedding dress turned out amazing and had the easiest, most intuitive bustle I have seen. Kathy is super responsive and was really communicative about when my items were ready and flexible when I had some pieces I needed more quickly. I plan to be a long-time customer! read more

LAM Couture is the only place I trust for alterations. I regularly attend events that require formal evening attire and LAM Couture delivers impeccable service for each gown I wear. Lan and Kathy have tremendous expertise and are extremely knowledgeable about fabrics and how clothing should be tailored. I bring in gowns and they swiftly identify what alterations are needed so the gown fits like a glove. One of my gowns was full, head to toe sequins that needed several adjustments. Lan and Kathy added bra cups (a must for backless gowns), realigned the front slit to lay smoothly, and took it in several inches. When I picked it up, it fit perfectly and I received so many compliments at the event! Another gown had lightweight fabric in which a zipper caused a slight bump. Lan adjusted the zipper so it now lays flat understand the fabric. Truly, Lan and Kathy can fix anything and everything! LAM Couture will also work with you to create custom pieces. My fiancé plans to engage LAM Couture to create his wedding day suit. I'm confident it will be the best suit he'll ever own! read more

I was impressed with every aspect of my experience at LC. From the reviews it looked like LC is mainly formal/custom clothes but they did an amazing job when I got alterations for several casual summer dresses as well as a button down top made out of a delicate gauzy fabric. Kathy was incredibly responsive to my texts and emails, she accommodated my timeline and had the alterations ready when she said they'd be ready. (including two day pick up for a last minute change after the second fitting). Pricing was lower than expected for the location! While she was unable to provide a price estimate based on photos of the dresses, I understand why once I came in for a fitting. Kathy and her mom spent a lot of time listening to what I was going for and helped me achieve it -- I appreciated that the process felt like a collaboration, and that Kathy gave her honest opinion on what worked best for my figure. Also FYI -LC did not have shareware/foundation garments for sale, but they did have a selection of beautiful bridal veils in different styles all in the ballpark of $100. Kathy has a great eye for selecting which veil goes with a dress. More details about my specific alterations in case it helps: Two of the dresses I brought in were white, cotton knee/midi length, with eyelets/lace and I was going to pick one to wear for my casual beach wedding -- they were literally nothing special- a final sale banana republic dress and a NWT express dress I got from the internet. They technically fit, but I took them to LC specifically for Kathy's expertise/vision - she made both look so much more flattering! My first choice had these big dramatic sleeves that I really liked but Kathy and her mom convinced me to let them take out some of the fabric -- I hadn't realized how bulky the dress had been! - after the alteration I seriously looked like I lost 6 pounds and they maintained the puffy look of the sleeves that made me get the dress in the first place! The other dress (my "back up" option) Kathy transformed it to such an extent by the way she shortened both layers to different lengths while maintaining embellishments on the hem that I ended up wearing it for the ceremony. Another plus - Kathy made it so the neckline on one of the dresses was compatible with my favorite bra (no dealing with strapless all day!). I not only felt beautiful, but comfortable on my wedding day! read more

I cannot tell you how happy I am that I took my wedding dress to Lam Couture for alterations. Their service is impeccable and their knowledge is unmatched. My dress involved many complicated alterations which they were able to tackle with ease and speed. At my second fitting, I had lost a decent amount of weight and my dress needed another round of complicated alterations. Kathy at Lam Couture made sure to check in with me before they started alterations to explain each step and get my approval. Her and her mother are godsends - they are so talented and know exactly what they are doing. My dress turned out absolutely perfect. I'm able to go into my wedding weekend with full confidence knowing that my dress fits like a glove. I'm truly so grateful and amazed by this team. THANK YOU!!! read more

AMAZING!! I'm so glad I found Lam Couture and read so many positive reviews. What I wanted done I wasn't 100% sure was even possible but the reviews made it seem like I should try. I ordered sequin pants online and I just fell in love with them. But they didn't fit me right at all. I needed the crotch of the pants lowered, the waistband raised, and the bottoms hemmed a lot. This is not an easy material to work with, nor was this an easy job. But Lam Couture delivered an incredible result. Pants that seemed like they may have to be returned have now been made to fit me. They are perfect. I couldn't be happier!! THANK YOU!! They made it seem so effortless. Wonderful communications via both phone and email, VERY quick turnaround time, and overall just the most pleasant experience. read more

Lam Couture did a wonderful job. I brought in a wedding dress I bought online and they removed a layer of satin, hemmed 3 layers of tulle + 1 layer of satin, took out the straps that were slightly tight, took out the waist that was slightly tight, and added a bustle. I had an initial consultation appointment during which they were not pushy at all and suggested the initial recommendations for the work they would do. They texted a few days later with the final recommendations and price quote. I did one dress fitting that took approximately 45 minutes. The final product was ready within 5ish weeks of initial consultation. Kathy and her mom were so great and I'd highly recommend them for wedding dress alterations! read more

I've taken a number of items to Lam Couture to get altered and have always been impressed by their work and professionalism. They've hemmed many dresses for me, including a few that were made of especially delicate materials, and always do a great job. They are detail-oriented and listen to exactly what you are looking for, while also making expert recommendations. Their customer service is wonderful, as well -- they give each visitor the time and attention needed. Each job gets their undivided attention and craftsmanship. They've made me feel great in so many bridesmaids dresses, which isn't an easy feat. They go above and beyond to do a wonderful job -- I highly recommend Lam Couture. read more

Great service, reasonable turnaround times. They are pricey but I think it's not any pricier than DC overall ($20 to hem jeans, $40+ to hem a dress). They did require an extra day on my dress hemming alteration, even after having it for a week, but didn't offer any discount for the delay. One pair of jeans, they didn't quite follow the instructions I had asked to straighten the leg and avoid any flaring from hemming, but they took it back and fixed it in a few days. Definitely trust them for any alterations since they also tailor! read more

I highly recommend Lam Couture to brides. They were easy to work with, affordable, and did quality work. I bought my two-piece wedding dress from BHLDN. Because they are separates and do not require a bustle, I assumed it would cost less to alter the pieces. All the boutique bridal tailors that I contacted still told me to budget for $500, which is more than the cost of the dress itself. I took a chance on Lam Couture based on the positive reviews that said they're affordable. They were able to do my alterations for half the price quoted by other places! For reference, my dress consists of a lace topper that needed to be taken in, along with a slim fitting skirt with 3 layers that needed to be taken in and hemmed. So happy with the results! read more

I AM AMAZED!!! The whole Lam Couture family completely blew me away with this amazing custom design wedding dress! I am so unbelievably happy with how this dress came out after only two fittings! I was so happy with the service and alterations I received at Lam Couture! The mother-daughter team who helped me were so amazing and made me feel so comfortable that my wedding dress was in good hands, and their attention to the details was top notch without much time to spare. I had a lot of work I had to get done, and less than 2 months to do it before getting married! My BHLDN lacy wedding dress was too long, gaping around my back, and wrinkly and loose around my waist. On the other hand, it was a bit too snug on my hips. Lam Couture to the rescue! They hemmed and bustled my dress so I could move during the reception, and made the back look gorgeous and form-fitting. They brought in the sides of the dress to flatter my waist but gave me more room in my hips. I was so happy with everything, and after all the try-ons, I felt like they loved and cared about my dress as much as I did! Thanks ladies! read more

Ah. Maz. Ing. Look, DC is tough. Everything is expensive and needs ten year's notice. These ladies are magicians, I had two weeks to get a fairly complicated bridesmaids dress altered. All the alterations, not just a simple hemline. The price was reasonable, expensive for normal people but a solid bargain for DC. They were very attentive to making sure everything was pinned and marked and explained what they were doing, why, and what the price would be. Fast forward and I just picked up the dress and it is PERFECT. Wizardry. I'm short and round, your basic pumpkin shape, and they managed to fit this dress. And she remembered me! Walking distance from McPherson metro too. Go see these ladies, they do it right. No gimmicks, no hidden fees, just careful craftsmanship. Maybe you can find cheaper for simple alterations, but for something that really counts don't cut corners and let them make it perfect. read more

I have had REAL trouble finding a decent tailor in this city, and have had some bad experiences. So I'm glad to have finally found this place. It's pretty pricey, yes, but they did a great job with my vintage 1950s dresses. One needed to be taken in at the waist and hemmed, and the other needed to be shortened in the torso (which required taking out the zipper). So most of these alterations were not basic, and I expected to pay a bit more. In the end, this place is very nice and clean, in plain view of the street so you're not wandering through a creepy building / up rickety staircases, and when the alterations are done, they are placed on a rack (not folded on the floor like I've experienced in other places). When you pick them up, they neatly fold them in a bag for you. I will be back! read more

Lam Couture is the ideal place in the DC area for all tailoring and bespoke needs. I've taken many garments, casual and formal, to be altered in all sorts of ways and they have never disappointed me once! They always get everything done in a timely manner and always communicate how long it will take and how much it will cost. They also do phenomenal bespoke suits! I recently had a suit and a Tuxedo made by them and they came out great! The pricing will depend on what quality of fabric you choose but regardless of the fabric the overall suit is exceptional. The jacket was full-canvas which is something typically reserved at much higher price points at other tailors in DC. They got the suits done in about four weeks plus an additional week for final alterations. As long as I am in the DC area I'll certainly be going back for all my future alterations and suit purchases! read more

Lam couture was awesome ! They were so accommodating of me. Lam Couture - Maroon dress perfectly altered - Bespoke Clothing Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Lam Couture saved my wedding dress! I started alterations on my gown at the original bridal salon where I purchased it. At each fitting, I felt like they either didn't understand what I wanted or didn't care about problem-solving to make it fit correctly. Ultimately, I decided to take it mid-alterations from the bridal salon and bring it to Lam Couture. This was the best decision I could have possibly made. As soon as I walked in, Kathy was so warm and understanding, and she just oozed competence. She had me try on my dress and before I even really started to explain what was wrong with it, she and her mom immediately began to make suggestions and pin things. They completely re-crafted the neckline, created gorgeous off the shoulder straps, adjusted the length (which had been hemmed incorrectly), and redid the bustle (which had also been done incorrectly). They did most of this by hand and in only two weeks! Their work was so exquisite and so perfectly matched my dream dress that when I had my final fitting, I cried. They were truly like magical fairy godmothers who made me feel like a beautiful bride. read more

Very pleased with Lam Couture's service and skill! Master alterations for sure. I brought in 4 dresses for various fixes on Monday, from simple hems, to sleeve issues, to total resizing of a complicated dress that has a peplum...they did a great job! Perfect fit on every item and all were done by Friday. Price-wise I would say they're comparable to dry cleaners in the downtown DC area but they specialize in designing and altering clothes, not cleaning, so all the stitching was strong, sturdy and in alignment! Great attention to detail. I was out the door for under $100 on 4 dresses with difficult designs. Definitely worth it. read more

I purchased a custom wedding dress from Etsy which was made only using my measurements and without trying it on first. I knew I would need at least some alterations to the dress before the wedding. once I found Lam Couture, I had my initial appointment around mid April. I originally thought I would need a bralette piece attached to the main dress to keep the dress up but Kathy knew immediately on sight that I needed the bralette taken out a little and the dress sleeves taken in. After leaving the dress with Kathy, I was contacted in early May with pricing and once payment was made, I had the dress by the end of May fitting perfectly and ready to travel in early June to my international wedding. The sleeves fit perfectly and throughout the wedding day, I never had to adjust my dress. Kathy and her mom were so sweet and very knowledgeable about how a dress should fit. Pricing was very reasonable. I will definitely return whenever I need an outfit altered! read more

I took a dress here to be altered and thought they did a good job. I haven't done enough alterations to really understand how reasonable the pricing was, but it seems on par with other places I've gone to. My one annoyance was that I had called the week before to let them know I would be picking up the dress the following Monday, and when I came in they seemed surprised and needed more time to finish it. I was on my lunch break and barely made it back in time for a meeting. Not the biggest deal in the world, since they were able to finish it, but not ideal. read more

The alterations I had done were fine, super simple, just replacing an elastic band on a skirt that had broken. They charged like $15, which I thought was fair, but my mediocre rating is based on an isolated bad customer service incident. I took the skirt in on a Monday and said, "I need this skirt fixed but ONLY if you can get it done by next Monday." Of course, of course they said. I needed it that day because I was leaving the following morning at 6am for an international trip where I planned to wear the skirt to a wedding! So imagine my surprise and frustration when I get a call on Friday afternoon from LAM Couture saying "Sorry we are busy we will have your skirt done on Wednesday." WHAT?! It legit probably takes them 15 minutes to fix, and I explained my timing predicament when I dropped it off. After a bit of back and forth ("Ok, what about Tuesday!") and me saying I was gonna head over there and pick it up that moment, she agreed to have it done by 6pm on Monday. This small incident makes me not want to bring anything back to Lam couture, which is a shame because they have really great yelp reviews. The good news is that I rarely need to alter things! read more

I lost some baby fat, so my suit bottoms were looking like pajama pants instead of business pants. I had a business conference to go to in 5 days and I was doomed. I called up plenty of tailor places but the majority of alterations were not done in house and there was no guarantee that my alterations would be complete on time. Thankfully, I found Lam Couture on Yelp (Yelp never fails!) and I was able to walk in the same day, take measurements, and walk out feeling that I made another right decision in my life. The ladies were very efficient, quick, and professional. I stepped in the store, and went straight to the changing section to try on my pants. As soon as my pants were on, measurements started to take place. It was obvious where the pants needed to pulled in, plus these ladies were fully aware of the professional look - not too tight around the booty/thighs area. Since I am a curvaceous woman, I was nervous that the pants might be too tight but all of my worries subsided when I tried on the finished product. Both of my pants fit amazing- the pants were hemmed, the waist was taken in, and the legs were tapered. Going to LAM Couture was more cost effective than buying another pair of pants. Plus, they ironed my pants for me, so they were suitcase ready! I will definitely be coming back to get additional items altered. I am a huge fan! Job well done ladies! read more

I decided to work with Lam Couture after reading many positive reviews. They worked with me to decide the best way to alter my bridesmaid dress as it needed a number of changes. Although you may have to wait for a little bit if there are others in the store, it is worth is as they give you 100% of their attention when you are being helped. My bridesmaid dress needed to be shortened, a belt added, and some detail in the back taken off. The pricing was comparable to the other seamstresses I called for a quote. In 2 weeks the work was complete and it was done beautifully! Thank you for your service, Lam Couture! read more

Khanh is great!!! I've walked by this place for years without realizing how much of a gem it was until a few weeks ago. I ordered a dress online for a wedding and when it arrived it was too small around my chest area. I did not know how the heck I was going to fix it considering that there was not enough fabric to zip up my dress from the back. I stopped by without an appointment which was fine, they were very flexible and accommodating. Khanh measured me and discussed with me the options available to fix my dress problem. I told them that I would need the dress fixed within one wk and they worked with me to meet that deadline even with a holiday weekend. When I came to pick up the dress, it was perfect. They were able to add fabric to the back of the dress that was very subtle and blended well with my white and pink floral dress. The price was very affordable esp for the great service I've received. I will definitely come back for my other tailoring needs. Thank you guys!!! I highly recommend using them!!! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Lam Couture! They've gotten me out of multiple dress jams. I'm not one to spend a lot in this department but I find their prices to be very reasonable. They are taking in a multi-layered bridesmaid dress for me right now that was way too big, in one week, for $60. Other places said it was too complicated in too short of a time frame. I live kind of far from Lam Couture now but I will continue to come to them for all my alterations. Great costumer service and quality! read more
