I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time now. Lam Couture works wonders. I purchased a Carolina Herrera gown that I found on sale, but unfortunately it was the last one available and a full size too small. I took the dress to Lam Couture, and they were able to expand the dress so that it fit like a glove -- and in very short turnaround (2 days). In addition to using the extra material at the bottom of the gown, they took the fabric from inside the pockets to further expand the dress. (They replaced that fabric with something similar since nobody sees the inside of your pockets. Brilliant!) Will certainly return for all future alterations. read more

My bridesmaid dress for a friend's wedding got delayed because of COVID and by the time it arrived it was just a few weeks before the wedding. The dress was HUGE on me--probably a full two sizes off. I bought a formal, sequined Badgley-Mischka dress from a Rent-the-Runway clearance sale that was my size, according to the designer specs. The dress arrived, and, it did not fit. I knew I needed an expert tailor, and, I chose Lam Couture. They were amazing. I am a size 16-18, and short. The dress was too small in the bust, too long in the shoulders, the zipper panel was misshapen, and, it was rough under the arms because of the sequins. The designers at Lam Couture were miracle workers. I wish this platform allowed for before- and after pictures. I paid $150 for all of the alterations, and trust me, it was worth every penny. I brought in my wedding dress for alterations and Lam Couture did an amazing job on it! It is a family-run business and the mother and two daughters who handled my dress were so sweet and accommodating. There was a mix-up with the date that I needed to pick it up and one of the daughters actually drove home to get it for me. The dress itself fit me perfectly, and you couldn't tell it was altered, even with all of the intricate lace and details that they removed and hand sewed back on so it would all look as if it was made that way. I was invited to the congressional Hispanic caucus with 2 days to get a dress. Found my dress and brought it here the next day. Not only did my dress fit perfectly, it was altered wonderfully. It was a black floor length Valentino that had a train in the back. She was able to fix my dress, where all "sides" had to fall at different lengths. She also fit the open back for me perfectly which I imagine was quite difficult, especially due to the intense beading on the front of the dress. It was all done in 1 day and was perfect!! Had 2 jackets one leather and one made of a special stretch shiny cotton material. The leather jacket needed the entire zipper replaced and the cotton jacket needed elbow patches. They do very well on minor things like hems and putting in zippers (a 5 for that) But unimpressed with tailor-made clothes. Ordered pants which took forever to be complete (you have to ask them if items are ready, they don't notify you) and when the were finally ready, they did not fit at all despite the measurements they took. I needed a custom dress made. I found Lam Couture through their reviews on yelp and decided to give them a try. I walked in with some fabric my in-laws had sent me and a picture on my phone of a dress. From that, they turned around a beautiful Chinese wedding dress (cheongsam) in about two months that looks exactly like the picture and fits me perfectly. I was amazed! They were so easy to work with. Everything was on time and as promised. They were not cheap, but definitely are high quality. I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

Lam Couture has been great to me. They've now altered 4 of my dresses, with fantastic results, at affordable prices. I have a proportionately larger bust, which wreaks havoc with many store-bought dresses. In two cases where the bust was too tight, Lam figured out fixes without having to add fabric (in one case letting out all seams slightly to gain 1/4" at at time; in the other deepening an existing 4-button crew neck to allow more give). Each alteration looks completely organic to the dress; you'd never know it didn't come that way. Lam also worked on two dresses in which my larger bust size raised the dresses' waist above my natural waist (creating a slight muumuu effect). For each dress, Lam found a matching or coordinating fabric and added an extra 1.5" horizontal band that extends to bodice and drops the point at which the skirt begins to flare out. For one of the dresses that operation was particularly complicated because the dress zips up the back and they had to entirely remove and then re-position the zipper. Although there was an initial miscommunication about what precisely I wanted done, Lam went back and corrected it to my specifications without charging me extra, even though the project required a lot more labor than was contemplated by the initial quote. The altered fit is great and the addition--in essence a flattering new built-in belt--is integrated so naturally that you'd never know it wasn't part of the original dress design. Bottom line, I'll stick with them for any tailoring I need done in the future. read more

I called Lam Couture based on the reviews I had read. I was looking for a place that could do alterations on a bridesmaids dress for an upcoming wedding. I am pregnant and the dress was definitely not compatible with my growing bump. When I called, they told me they could see me immediately. Unfortunately, because the dress was delayed in shipping, I did not have time to order extra fabric, but Lam Couture was able to work with what I gave them. They made huge alterations to the dress but when I came back in to try it on, it appeared that I had grown and the dress still did not fit. The owner stayed up late in the night and totally reworked the dress so that it would fit. When I came in the next day, the dress fit! I got so many compliments on how well the dress fit me at the wedding. The work that was done was fantastic and it did not cost an arm and a leg for basically reconstructing an entire dress. I went to Lam Couture the morning of an engagement shoot in complete desperation. I had just picked up my dress for the shoot the evening before and my previous alteration place had completely botched the job. It was unwearable. When I arrived, I was kindly greeted by the lady at the front. I explained the issue and how, as crazy as it was, I needed them to alter the dress by the end of the day. Whereas every tailor before had laughed when I told them how soon I needed the fix, Lam couture said they would try to get it done, even after telling me how busy they were that day. Literally three hours later they had called to tell me that they had finished the job! I went back to try it on and it was perfect- no since of the horrible and damaging work from before.
