I've taken 2 different things to have fixed at Stereoadvisor and they were both done with amazing care and in a timely manor. I've had broken headphone cords repaired which saved me a bunch of money compared to buying new. I've also had a pair of vintage speakers repaired and they sound magnificent. Yes you do have to pay a down payment, but with so many other services requiring a down payment that doesn't seem abnormal at all. I wouldn't hesitate going back there at all. This gentleman repaired and restored 40+ year old Bang & Olfsen Beogram turntable and Tandberg receiver, pre-amp and amplifier units originally owned by my mother. He did a complete and accurate diagnosis and performed a thorough repair on each unit. My sibling reports that the units work wonderfully just like they did 40+ years ago! I would take my stereo work to no one else...ever. The proprietor is courteous and professional. I find that what he charges for his services (especially in the light of the level of knowledge, experience and competence he brings to each task) is quite reasonable. Just wanted to express my Extreme happiness and delight that my 37 year old Pioneer SX1280 receiver/amp is alive and so very well thanks to Luis. He was very quick to diagnose the issue of a channel dropping out and not working. He replaced all of the capacitors, cleaned everything including the many controls and switches and buttons. I brought it home hooked it up and can not believe how good it sounds. Clear, bright sounds that I had forgot the Pioneer SX1280 amp was capable of. He had me bring in my guitar so that he could listen and understand what I was looking for, then he did a great job of shielding and even repositioning the transformer. Luis did a wonderful job on my McIntosh system. They had been in storage for many years before I acquired them, and needed extensive work to bring them back to original specs. Took my Nakamichi 700 II to have record level adjusted. While he may have done that he also replaced belts. When I tried to play a tape it randomly stopped (never happen before I took it in). Took it back, he claimed the tape counter gears were worn out causing the tape to stop and replaced it (maybe don't know for sure). Now the problem is worse. Obviously the way the tape stops he replaced the belt with wrong belt. read more

I was so excited to find Louis, what a huge disappointment though! I would give half a star if I could. Luis was rude and confrontational as soon as I walked in but against my better judgement I went ahead with the repair, thinking he must have had a bad day and who doesn't once in a while? My husband ending up taking in the turntable because I was intimidated with his dismissive attitude towards me. I knew it needed a new motor and tune up etc... And had no problem paying the $60 diagnostic fee. I asked how much more he thought it would be and he would not answer me let alone look me in the eye. He told me after 6 weeks he'd call, 7 went by and I called to find out what was going on (I had an event I was planning on using this player at) and he promptly told me "NEVER to call me to ask about the repair its a waste of my time and I don't care to answer your questions" hmmmmm not cool. Anyway a week later the repair was done (just in time for the event I was having) got the turntable home and it worked fantastic for oh 2 weeks but! Yup here it comes it stopped working! Shock horror didn't see this coming (hear the sarcasm?) my husband called and he said he might be able to fix it!!! Bring the whole console in. It's a vintage 1950s 4 ft x 2 ft beast. I can't do that! But he informs me it's not his work it's something in the console?! Nope... It's his work. $350 total for a whole lot of frustration! thanks Louis thanks for taking our money and not performing a service you said you could do! read more

So you are saying that if I called first the situation would have been different? Interesting. And you're right, I was demanding. You know why? Because I was a customer. Have you ever heard of the customer being right? I spent 80 dollars on something that didn't work. You yourself were rude and belittling in the fact that you didn't even entertain the though that you could have possibly been wrong. You may have inspected the unit when you worked on it, but I specifically remember you NOT inspecting it at the moment of purchase. You showed me how to work the weights, that is all. That unit could have been damaged by perhaps another customer at some point while it was on your shelf for God knows how many months before I bought it. I tried it right when I got home and it did not work. I did not bend the needle. I am not stupid. It took me a week to return because I was busy. I threw your worthless turntable in the trashcan and bought a new one from a business that actually respects their patrons. Your service is horrible and I am still completely angry over the fact that I did not get my money back. I have half a mind to contact the Better Business Bureau or the investigative teams on the news that assist consumers. You were and still are wrong. End of story. And P.S., it's "delivery" not "deliver". Your sentence structure could use some fixing as well. You might wanna re-read your comments before posting if you hope to come across as professional. I loved my stereo, right down to building my new home around it and the 1000s of recordings I have collected through the decades. I was devastated when we had a house fire while on vacation. The insurance company stated the Soundcraftsman preamp, eq, and Pioneer turntable were too smoke-damaged to save, but I couldn't bear to part with it so I stored it in the garage. We bought a new Yahama unit and I HATED IT. After a year, we drove two hours in search of a solution and we found Stereo advisor. First let me say that if you want your equipment repaired right, then this is the place. I took my CTF9191 Pioneer Cassette player in along with my Pioneer SX850 receiver. I have had this unit since 1972 . I brought my cassette player to Mr. Luis Galvez back in 1991 to have a Vu meter fixed. He did a great job then and it still works . I just took in my units last week to have my receiver gone thru. One channel playing at a time, and my cassette player was not running the tapes all the way thru . Constantly shutting off. It was there for a couple of weeks before Luis got back to me and let me know the price to fix them both. Luis works by himself and I know this. So being in a hurry to have my equipment returned to me is not a priority. I want it to be done right! Well Luis did not let me down. I picked my unit up yesterday and I was just blown away. EVERYTHING worked just like I knew they would. My Sansui speakers were just enjoying themselves as I was . I had a few cassettes that I was going to throw away because I thought that they were just shot. Well I am glad I didn't. I played them on my Cassette player that Luis had repaired and they sounded Brand New. All I can say is thank YOU Mr. Luis Galvez for the GREAT work that you always do. Luis is one of those rare finds now a days. Just given the fact that a stereo tech, who fixes old school turntables, even exists anymore in the age of downloading music is an amazing feat in itself, but I digress. Long story short, my turntable was skipping on the 3rd song, and when it wasn't skipping it just didn't sound right. For those of you out there who appreciate the sound of vinyl, you know what I'm talking about.
