This is my computer experience from a computer shop in Ripon, CA which eventually lead me to Computer Pros in Stockton, CA. I came to the computer store in Ripon (my local shop) to attempt to recover pictures and documents from two hard drives from older computers that were freezing up. I was told that the first hard drive had the pictures on OneDrive and none were on the hard drive and was charged $29 for the diagnostic. I brought in a second hard drive from another computer to attempt a second recovery because I knew that the pictures were definitely stored on there and brought an external hard drive for the transfer. The owner stated that he wanted to charge me $399 for the hard drive repair and an additional $150 for the data transfer by text after a few days. I decided not to do the work and came in to pick up my internal and external hard drive. The owner seemed surprised of my decision and threw out a hypothetical question on what the pictures were worth. I was confused on why he would even ask me that question but just told him that they were not worth the estimate that he gave me. I asked him a question about the first hard drive and telling him that I was 100% sure that the pictures were on the computer and asked him to explain it to me again and to "talk to me like I am dumb with computers and not like I am an idiot". He looked puzzled with my statement but the whole experience was condescending from day one each time that I asked a question about my computers. He is very knowledgeable but will make you feel like an idiot for asking any question to try and understand the recovery process. Both internal hard drives were taken to Computer Pros in Stockton and Erik the owner was the true computer expert. He explained the repairs to me and made me feel appreciated as a customer. Erik stated that if he could not retrieve the documents and pictures that there would be no cost. He stated to me that the second internal hard drive and external hard drive were toast and that the documents and pictures could not be retrieved. I understand that the internal hard drive could have been jacked up because I had the first place take the drive off the repair process before it finished but my external hard drive was not broken when I brought it in to him. Thank goodness that Erik was able to retrieve the documents and pictures that the first shop said were not on the internal hard from the beginning. He was able to retrieve 100% of the 12 GB of data. If anybody is willing to drive to Stockton for computer repairs, I highly recommend Computer Pros with Erik. They are top notch with knowledge and customer care was amazing. He also does remote work to save you that trip if it fits your needs. I will be coming back for future computer needs. read more

Take this review as constructive criticism A former elite reviewer I can get nitpicky I'll keep it at a 4 star because I very much support small businesses and wish you more success. Overall the experience was good until I got my items back. Staff answer the phones for the most part, they called back, was very kind and helpful. Having my pc and laptop, staff called to tell me my pc was fine and they would upgrade the windows and my laptop (gamer laptop) had some melted issues but they would proceed. To clean my pc and upgrade to windows 11 was $99. To first hear it was like ok this a bit much in this climate but after some time it felt worth it. Staff worked on it and had it done before closing. Thank you very much. I am a content creator and needed my electronics back. I refused to get the gaming laptop worked on as I probably would have the same issues. Upon pick up my husband went for me and didn't look at the pieces before returning home. Nothing was mentioned to him about what had transpired. I couldn't do anything until the next day when I seen it. 1. My pc D drive was unplugged (I'm not too knowledgeable so had to YouTube my way to undo the computer and plug it back in) 2. My laptop was further damaged and now comes on and off as I open it sadly I'm now counting its days I only had it for a couple years and although melted from charging a lot it was in immaculate condition on the exterior. Now I'm seeing the inside of my laptop on the back corner . Staff then said yes a hinge broke while trying to find the issue. A 1k laptop 3. Temporary closing for a break time should be followed. I was in a rush and had my baby with me so I didn't read the contract thoroughly. Any damage done from them would be waived and I accepted. I'm not mad just some improvements you could work on. 1. Tell the customer what happened and maybe a short apology before I get home and find them. This would of been a easy fix for my attitude. 2. Maybe write what you unplugged to run your system on the pc and then plug the cords back. This could of went left as I initially thought a part was stolen. Again overall this place is good. They don't lie about issues, they are kind and price reasonable. However, I would not get a gaming laptop worked on here or anywhere as this is my first go round getting it looked at leaving with a worse laptop. Sent in my computer to be diagnosed and they were very helpful with seeing what was wrong with it. They were able to get back to me within a few days. Highly recommend this repair place as I'll probably be going there again if I have any other computer issues. read more

The service was good. The person was very friendly but his price can be more expensive than others. Overall, it was a good service. But for my particular instance, there was an unannounced delay to the repair to which it costs delays to my work flow. Sort of a late review but I just wanted to make sure ComputerPros received the credit due to them. I brought my computer in which had essentially just died on me and none of the parts seemed to be responsive when turned on...so I brought it in and they were fairly busy with other orders at the time to which they were very transparent with me and the time table it would take to diagnose my PC and repair it. The diagnostics was free and they were able to determine what it was and explain it to me and because of the fact they were clear with me as to what went wrong, I felt it was right for them to repair it rather than doing it myself. So a few hours after I gave them the okay to continue with the repair, I was called back to retrieve my computer and all I had to say was, the price was a lot less than what I expected and even after repairing it, they even went into details as to how they repaired it so that way if I run into the issue (or a similar one on any other PC for that matter) then I can attempt at it myself! There was no feeling of being pressured to buy anything extra or do anything extra that I feel like because of the pricing and their transparent business practice, this place deserves a Five Star and then some! Really great place to get your laptop fixed. The prices are reasonable. Recently I brought my laptop here because the part on my laptop that's suppose to hold the charge adapter was pushed in and my adapter would fall out. I took it here and they fixed the issue. Now my laptop charges perfectly again. But when I took my laptop home I noticed many keys were not working. I drove back and Eric fixed it without a problem. So for me it's important to wok with a company that will fix issues that pop up after the main problem has been resolved. read more

Got my computer upgrade and install here. When I got my computer home then I realized that my windows was no longer activated. Luis failed to inform me that my windows wasn't activated, I would have likely purchased a Windows 10 product key there to get it activated again. Now I am stuck with a computer that is not working properly and have been trying to work with Microsoft for the passed 2 hours to get this resolved instead of enjoying my new upgraded system. When I found out they had already closed down for the weekend. He did do an excellent job on the installation of the hardware, but its hard to give him anything more then a subpar review because my system is not working and I am irritated. He did tell me beforehand that the activation might be an issue, but didn't tell me that it was indeed an issue, over the phone he said the installation went smoothly. Which led me to assume the hardware and software where working as expected. Update!: I got a call from the rep that built my PC he corrected the issue quickly and professionally. I had a blue screen problem with my desktop PC and exhausted all efforts. I brought it to GEEK SQUAD at Best Buy and they wanted roughly 200$ for a fix. However, I found this place on yelp that is above and beyond. What you see is true, they indeed do DIAGNOSTICS for free. They'll do tests to check what could be wrong with your PC, and then they let you know once they figure it out. The best part is you can either fix it yourself if you know how for free, or they can do it for you at a price depending on the part that is damaged. Overall this is a wonderful place to get your computer fixed if you can't seem to figure it out. The beSt part is they help with diagnostics for free. A couple days ago my computer was compromised and I needed it cleaned up, updated, and any portals closed asap! I needed my 2014 Mac mini diagnosed since it stopped being responsive and when it did, it was extremely slow, down to a crawl. I took it to the Computer Pros since they had a pretty good yelp rating and I prefer to cater to smaller businesses. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and the diagnostic done was free. Their quote was more than reasonable and the work done to replace the hard drive on the computer was quick, a day turnaround. My computer is running better than ever. Plus, they updated my OS. These guys are great! The keyboard on my husband's two-in-one laptop/tablet was not working properly and they were able to fix it easily. They were really approachable and I'll be going back if anything else happens.. Minus 1 star since they said they would call by the end of the day (I had dropped off at noon) and when I hadn't heard back, I called them (approx 4:30p) and was told they were staying later (approx 6p) and would give me an update then and didn't. I ended up calling again in the morning to try figure out when it would be finished. (Done before noon the day after drop off - so KUDOS for 24 hour turnaround) read more

I had called other computer repair shops prior to this one, and found it irritating that some would charge me for even taking a look at my laptop, as I wasn't exactly sure what was wrong with it other than it overheated easily. However, Computer Pros provided a free diagnostic for me and they found out precisely what was wrong with it. Other shops I called told me that I needed to replace the fan which would cost more and take longer to fix but Computer Pros found out the real problem was that it was clogged with dirt and only needed to be cleaned thoroughly. I saved quite a few bucks in the process and I was pleased to find out that it would only take an hour or so to clean my computer. Furthermore, the employees are friendly and easy to talk to.
