TJ, the bouncer, was at Stop and Shop tonight getting more limes for customers. He saw an older man struggling with a walker and paid for the man's water and batteries. THEN, he waited to be sure the man had a way to get home safely. REMEMBER - bouncers aren't always guys who kick you out when you are rowdy, they are also human beings (great ones who graduated from Fordham - That you would be proud to have as a son). Stopped in for lunch after putting a few hours of overtime on the books. The place is very nice. Decorated much like an Irish pub should be, with Celtic knots, and plaques of the different Irish counties. There are a few tv's by the bar playing sports, ESPN and what not. There is also a small dining area which is cut off from the bar quite nicely. I chose the bar area as I just wanted a burger and a few beers. The Smithwick's tasted great and hit the spot. The cheese burger was very good. Cooked to perfection, the meat was flavorful and juicy. The fries were nice and golden, just how I like them. All in all it was a successful lunch. read more

Karaoke here on Saturdays are pretty ridiculous. It seemed to be a off Broadway show. I love the crap out of karaoke and until I downed three drinks fast I was a little uncomfortable lol. Drinks are great. People are mixed. Old young and in between. Food has always been great here, nothing too overly fancy, but consistently good. It's clean, the staff is friendly and fast. I'm a local who has been to this bar on a few occasions. I decided to come here with my partner on a Sat night to enjoy some wine and witnessed and experienced terrible customer service, w/ the establishment creating and defending dangerous behavior between patrons and the male bartender that evening. I witnessed a customer signal to the bartender from across the room that their pitcher was out. The bartender's response was to motion to the customer to throw the glass pitcher to him from across the room. The customer threw it as they were motioned to do so by the bartender but the bartender failed to catch it and the pitcher shattered at the bar near 2 other customers - a man and a woman. Luckily no one was hurt, but the pitcher shattered near other customers. I was surprised to see that the bartender shrugged it off and didn't apologize to anyone. I then witnessed the woman who was sitting next to the whole thing respectfully explain to a woman worker with red hair (maybe manager?) and accent (Irish?) that what happened was dangerous and that she could have gotten hurt as the pitcher shattered right next to her. The worker with red hair responded by being dismissive and saying she didn't get hurt, implying therefore she shouldn't complain. The customer respectfully said she wouldn't come back and the woman with red hair replied "well this is the first time I see you here anyway." I was surprised and disappointed as I witnessed this interaction between the bar worker and customer so I expressed my disappointment to the woman with the red hair and explained what I saw. Her response was essentially that the woman is a regular drunk (even though she told her it was her first time seeing her) and was rude (I witnessed the interaction - she was not) and that the patrons that threw the pitcher across the room were regulars, implying that that they're behavior was OK. Not once did she apologize for what happened nor for her bartender instigating the situation. Overall, very disappointing experience. Not the kind of bar I want to frequent. I'll be taking my business to Growlers down the street! read more

A friend and I spent a day walking around the Bronx River Parkway. Hungry and thirsty we chose this place as it was next to our train. What an absolute delight. One of the most delicious yet simple salads I have ever eaten. We went on the weekend so we got a complimentary Mimosa with our meal. Another fantastic thing about this place is their black bread, I wish they sold loaves. The staff was lovely! If I ever find myself in that area again I will most definitely make a beeline back to Stephen's Green Bar! read more

We have been here twice. The first time we sat at the bar. The bartender was on the phone. It sounded like the person on the other line was calling out sick based on the conversation that we overheard. We were given coasters/bev nap but not waited on. We waited about 10 minutes and decided that we obviously weren't going to get served any time soon so we left. We thought maybe that it was just a bad day so we decided to come back another time. We sat on the back deck as they allowed us to bring our dog out there. The back deck is covered and nice. Our waitress seemed bothered and rushed. The food was okay. She did bring our pup water and our service was prompt. Overall didn't have a good feel about this place with both encounters. We might try it again in the future to give it another chance. read more

I like this place because it's spacious and low key with a nice outdoor area. The crowd is mixed, usually a bit older, so if you're looking for a crazy night out this is not the place. They do have trivia and karaoke nights and I love the local feel of the place. The food is okay too. read more

We went on for corned beef and cabbage after the town parade, the place was empty. Both had corned beef and cabbage and it was like eating a salt lick. Hmm an Irish bar should know how to make good corned beef and cabbage, sorry this was among the worst I have ever had. I have always been a fan of Stephens Green because of the people and atmosphere. Agree with another reviewer the food went from good to fantastic, especially their burgers. Great bun, fried onion and cooked perfectly. The rest of the menu is great to, good irish pub menu. This place can't be beat now between the menu, atmosphere and prices. Guinness at 6.50, friendly people and great food, this is a great place to be a regular. read more

Was in here on Sunday evening with my husband and a few friends. I ordered the Stephens Burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had and cooked to perfection. We also ordered a side of garlic Parmesan fries for the table which everyone enjoyed so much. The others at the table also very much enjoyed their food. The staff are very friendly here and we received great service from the waitress who was working that day, who was very attentive and friendly to our table. The prices are also very reasonable and I will definitely be returning soon and will recommend this place to friends and family. read more

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Stephen's Green Bar today with my mom and sister. The food was delicious, the ambiance was wonderful and the service was terrific. They have a full bar with large screen televisions, a restaurant section and an outside patio. I found the place to be warm and inviting. We realized that we finally found a place that felt like "Cheers". Wonderful music was playing in the background... James Taylor, Beatles, etc. We enjoyed our lunch and got to know our waitresses, Mary and Jade who were both a delight. I can honestly say we will be back with the rest of the family and enjoy more wonderful moments to come! read more

It is not often that after I go to a pub for a meal that I have to stop on the way home to get my actual dinner. When I received my burger I noticed that they had to split it down the middle to see if it was cooked. Are you serious? Completely amateur. We had been there previously, so we knew the food was nothing special. We went because there is parking and it is a place i can have a beer while bringing our very small child. The service was awful and when the manager had one last chance to save it, he failed by not comping us or offering us an incentive to come back. The market for mediocre food is far too competitive. The location will keep it sputtering along for a while but unless a change is made it will consistently be as empty as it was today. It's not good. read more

Over the passed month their lunch portion (take out) of shepherds pie has went from small to kids size portion and the price has increased by $2 making it $13. I had first had this item end of last year inside the bar. And it was awesome and large in portions. Then a started getting take out and it was about half the size of the eat in portion. Now it's like 1/4 the size. I guess now no more food from there. Also doesn't taste as good any more. read more

I've been here about 9 or 10 times in the last 2 months. We've never had a bad meal. Food and service are outstanding. You can't beat the price either. Food is very fresh, took a friend yesterday for the first time, she raved about the hamburger. Cooked perfectly and the meat was really fresh not frozen. I highly recommend the restaurant. The decor in here is cute (in the dining area). They have a pretty good variety of beer and food. The wings here were pretty good. We enjoyed the food. It's nothing spectacular, but is pretty standard bar food. I wouldn't object to going back to try out some other menu choices. They also have a patio in the back that looks like it could be nice, but I can't say first hand how the patio is. read more
