I am sure the doctor is great, my issue is with whoever checks insurance. I called and asked what I would roughly pay, the person brushed me off... and said they'd know the exact amount closer to the day. I walk in and they know right away I'm out of network... why wouldn't you call me? I would have canceled so someone else had a chance to fill that spot. I was in desperate need of an eye exam when I was here for vacation. I called around and I am so glad the stars aligned for me to be treated here. Dr. Ashley Abiva is knowledgeable, kind, and personable. She was able to treat my eye and it has been feeling better! When told her I was unable to follow up (due to being here for a quick trip), she gave me her card so I could email her with an update and inquired about my eye dr back home so she could fax over the appointment details. Specifically, 1) Their emails do not contain a physical address. 2) There is no easy way (or any way) to unsubscribe from the mailing list. 3) The email return address is fake and one cannot unsubscribe. 4) They will not remove names when requested. The people at this office cannot do basic math. If that doesn't bother you to get billed wrong then go right ahead and go on in! I scheduled an appt because I need a quick update to my expired prescription before I can get prescription safety glasses. Now my prescription has not changed in the last 13 years but I am legally required to pay a ridiculous sum of money to update before I can get glasses made. I got a voicemail with the price I would pay out of pocket and it didn't seem to add up. Called back for some information and it was clear that they cannot do math. When questioned on how they arrived at the WRONG number (and the fact that they essentially charge $35 to bill your insurance for you) the lady got all mad. I told her I did not want to do business with anybody who can't subtract numbers and she whined my comment was unjustified. Oh, it was not nice but it was seriously justified. And don't get me started on an establishment that charges different prices for billing insurance versus billing the patient. So I can pay up front, be reimbursed by my insurance and end up paying $35 less for the "exam." Hmmmm...the medical establishment in this country is screwed up! ------------------ UPDATE: About half an hour later Dr. Nevett himself called me back to discuss the issue. This is after I canceled my appointment. He wanted to go over the numbers with me and used the same "math" as his staff. Basically they don't understand basic insurance terms such as "deductible" and "allowed amount." They tried to subtract my deductible from the allowed amount and say that is what insurance pays. Um, no. If you go here double check your bill because I would put money on it being wrong and them double billing you and the insurance company for the amount of your deductible. read more

I've been going to Dr Nevett and his associates for years, so I feel like I can now give an honest review by now... I honestly just went to Dr Nevett in 2013 because they were attached to the Lens Crafters and it was just an easy few steps from getting the prescription to getting a new pair of glasses in one trip. The wait the first time was long and I feel the office staff was a little overwhelmed. I waited over 20 minutes past my appointment time to start with the pre exam, and was then seen by a lady optometrist whom I don't remember her name but I believe she's no longer there. She was very thorough and open to questions even while they were busy and had multiple people waiting. I left happy. The Second time was a a little over a year later in 2014. Once again, the wait was long (about 25 min) and there was a male front office staff employee who was a little short with me when telling me how to fill out the intake form. Maybe having a bad day, but I shrugged it off. The pre exam went fine and the Dr this time was a nice middle eastern lady who did a fine job, although the lack of verbal communication during the exam I didn't care for. This brings me to my last 2 times during August 2015 and in August 2016... These two times, I was showed to the pre-exam by the what seemed a more organized front staff. Then I was seen by Dr Nevett himself within 10 minutes of my actual appointment time. I opted for the cornea eye scan for an extra $39(I believe that's the price). When the doctor came in, he immediately brought up the eye scan that was completed, gave me an extra thorough explanation of the condition of my eyes and then completed the rest of the exam. The staff has been very nice and now seems to come together and exceed on respecting the patients time. I now ask to see Dr Nevett himself when making my yearly appointments. This place has improved over the years and now receives my 5 Stars. :) read more

They took my eye insurance, so that helped in my decision to choose them. They are located next to LensCrafters in Northgate mall, so I knew they had ample parking. Northgate has a Cinnabon.....so.....yeah....bonus points. The staff was super friendly. I didn't feel like they were rushing me through just to get my insurance money. They really took a good amount of time to ask me lots of questions about my eyes and treat me like a human. I was really happy with my appointment. Two weeks later (and one more Cinnabon later) they had me back to check if my glasses were doing well. The front desk team is amazing. Really a lively bunch. Excellent job!! read more

I've always had a great experience with Dr. Nevett's office - I get all of my yearly checks there, as well as ordering contacts. Service is speedy and they go out of their way to help when there's a challenging issue. For example, once I realized I ran out of contacts and ordering a new box was a week away, so they let me have a trial pair to get me through the week. They have late afternoon/early evening appointments as well which is super convenient. Also, if you have a VSP insurance account, they've recently started billing them directly, so no more need to mail stuff in. Awesome! read more

I was really impressed with Dr. Nevett. He found something in the exam that called for a deeper look. Through it all he explained what he was doing, what the scans meant and what it meant for my vision health. I work in healthcare myself, so my expectations are pretty high - he combined a great personable and personal manner with fantastic explanations and a bigger picture view. I think I've found a gem of an optometrist. Add to that, the tech and women in the front office were just as friendly, thorough and professional in their realms as he was in his. I have been getting my eyes examined for many, many years. This was one of the most pleasant experiences in recent years. Easy to schedule appointments (on-line), they pre-process the eye insurance so you know exactly what you will be paying when you walk in the door, Dr. Nevett was friendly, knowledgeable, and explained everything. His staff was nice enough. The young man who did my preliminary exam seemed rushed and I wasn't 100% comfortable with that process, but he didn't do anything wrong. Just was a different vibe than the rest of the exam. Dr. Nevett gave me my prescription (as I was not buying new glasses at this time) and even measured my pupil distance in case I decided to buy on-line. Ordered glasses and was quoted a week to pick them up, it's the day of when i was supposed to get them and they have no idea when they will be in and just quoted me another week to receive them. A bit ridiculous considering I've ordered glasses in the past from lens crafters and received them no more than two days later. I have been seeing Dr. Nevett for years, and he has always been wonderful. I have a bit of an anxiety disorder, but when I'm with him I am totally relaxed. I broke my frameless eye glasses on a Sunday morning. I was able to get an appointment the very next afternoon, which was sort of amazing. I arrived at the appt. time, and was asked to complete many pages of forms, but my exam was covered by insurance. (YES!) The office was very clean and tidy. The employees were all very efficient and polite, and I had my exam done by a nice young man, and then Dr. Priya Submaranian. She was also very pleasant and efficient. She put drops in my eyes to dilate them, and while waiting I picked out a pair of glass frames. I appreciated them honoring my time. I was on my way 1 hr, 40 minutes later, which was pretty great, I thought. The only reason I gave them a 4 star rating instead of 5 was that I paid $585 for these glasses, which seems like a LOT of money to me. (This was including my insurance, although I've sent in a form and hope to get reimbursed a bit more for the glasses.) All in all, I would go there again, because other than the cost, it was a smooth and painless operation beginning to end. read more
