There was no tortuous dental room sensation that you get sometimes before you go in for a new look- "am I going to get what I want or will I need a hat when I leave?" kind of feeling... none of that at all. I drive 40 min to the salon and get there 10 min early. She is washing someone elses hair and hasn't started the cut yet. Jennifer then comes over to me and tells me she is running an hour behind. She asks if I have something else to do while I wait. Umm, no. I am 40 min from my neighborhood and planned my day around this hair cut. I am new to TX and haven't had my hair cut in a few months and really need a hair cut. I wait the hour and then go sit in the chair to tell her what I want. She tells me she is running behind because she woke up not feeling well. Ok, I understand people get sick- call your client! Take 2 min and leave a voice mail that your appt will be an hour later. Give the client the choice to either cancel or come in later. While getting my hair cut she is talking to me about dying my hair and mentions she is a color specialist and can dye my hair. Im waiting to see how the haircut turns out before I decide anything else. I got a new client deal that was a little cheaper for a cut but still expensive. With tip it was $48 for a wash, cut, and blow dry with a round brush. My hair is short, right above shoulder length. Anyway, we get to the cut I show her the photo(a neck length bob, not a drastic A line but very slightly angled in the back, a popular cut right now.) and I had had a similar cut in the past but it was grown out. I had some damage from my hair being blonde. I told her I wanted a minimum of 1 inch off and if needed 2 inches was ok. She said she would do that and do a few long layers to help with volume. People, I ended up with layers right below my eyes, a weird shag type haircut and then she round brushed it. I ended up looking like Monica Lewinsky from 1998. I was so disappointed. Now I have to grow it all back out and Im stuck with it because to fix it would mean cutting it really short. I fear if my hair grows half an inch I will have a mullet. I basically just threw out everything I didn't like about my hair, explained what I wanted to be easier to deal with, and told her I didn't mind having to style it, but if it could look good without styling, that would be a huge plus. And my lord, I could not be happier with what she did! Somehow, Shandra took the random collection of thoughts in my head and put exactly what I was imagining onto my head. She understood what I wanted better than I could even explain it. She was incredibly gentle, sweet, and easy to trust, and I seriously cannot compliment her talent and skill enough. I've been here a few times back during my high school years but hadn't returned in a long time. Coming back was absolutely the right decision. I walked in with basically, "Here's everything I hate, please fix me" and walked out LOVING my hair. I will absolutely be scheduling with Shandra again. If you're someone who doesn't quite know how to explain what you want but knows how you want to feel about your hair when you leave, go see her. She gets it. 5 stars no doubt. And no this isn't some paid review or make up review, I've read the negative ones and I was absolutely aware of the things said before I came in, however I love that I can be the proof and word that anything negative is just simply not true, and that there's two sides to every story and this side was absolutely wonderful.
