we wondered into this oasis by accident really, it's nestled discretely in the back of a charming wine shop. we entered in the way one might discover a secret club or a speakeasy. nestled into a spot at table, and enjoyed the warm personable service, great eats and toasty vibe. even our friendly neighbors were more than happy to include us in conversation and make us feel right at home. the seasonal menu had so many intriguing choices, I wish we had arrived with a bigger appetite. can't wait to go back and dine here with my guy again the next time we're in town. read more

I have been strong advocate of this tiny bar and loft located behind the wine and cheese shop on Depot. Melt in your mouth sliders, wafer thin flatbreads with local meats and cheeses (special pies often have seasonal apples), pork belly dishes and soups, always made with care. This past visit was a bit of a disappointment. Artic char tacos with cukes, fennel and pea shoots with yogurt crema was both bland and slightly bitter. Could have used some heat or sweet as contrast. Ditto the mushroom ravioli topped with raw scallion and herbs which did nothing but make the dish taste grassy. The pulled pork Mexican lasagna was tasty but dry as the tortillas standing in for pasta sucked up any moisture. The panzanilla salad was the best thing all evening loaded with kale, olives and red onion. This meal might have sounded good at the menu planning meeting but the final taste didn't deliver. I still love this place and always recommend it as maybe the best food and wine in town for the price. But not every performance gets the standing O. read more

Made a reservation as suggested and now we know why! It is a clever renovation of a home into a small two story restaurant with a bar. Tables along banquet are a good distance apart yet we got into a most enjoyable conversation with the couple next to us. Family friendly. Tom enjoyed a local hard cider and I enjoyed two great wine choices. The flatbread pizza was beyond good - - it was great! Many interesting choices. Tom enjoyed potato leek soup which was a special. I ordered the special scallops with seasonal vegetables and a rutabaga puree Interesting seasoning, however, must admit that I prefer my scallops in a purer state. He had perfectly cooked sliders with pickled vegetables that were enjoyed. Oh my the lamb chops at the next table were my second choice and I wish I had gone with it as they looked great and enjoyed by a family near us. Great attentive service through out the meal. We are here for just a week & decided to Google best restaurants in the area so I was intrigued! I mentioned your restaurant to the Inn owner and she said great choice! Also mentioned it to a local hair dresser & she said it was one of her favs! Now it's one of ours too!! The salad, pizza and wine were outstanding & complimented each other perfectly... I liked the Spanish Cabernet, my husband went with the California Chardonnay. We both thought we had the best pairing! We were seated upstairs at a huge farm table and our waitress came by to explain the entire menu to us (multiple times). Locally sourced, interesting but not pretentious, satisfying and just right. I had a tempura'ed salmon appetizer that was perfectly balanced, and a filet of pork tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes that made me wish i had 2 stomaches!! This was a great little place. We were a little skeptical about the online menu being a little sparse, but the daily specials posted when we arrived put those to rest. Elk rib steaks, scallops. All soooo good. Not quite true tapas. A better description is small plates. Portions are small but perfect. Normally we split a meal to avoid waste. But these sizes allowed us to try more. Wine selections were good. We ended up trying almost all the desserts. Bourbon peach cobbler. Heaven. Flourless chocolate cake was perfect to finish that last of my big red wine. read more

My husband and I went out to dinner here while on an anniversary trip in Cavendish. We RARELY finish our entire meal when out at a restaurant, and we almost never eat dessert. But here, we did both! The food was delicious, and the waitress suggested perfect cocktails to compliment the meals we ordered. We had an amazing and flavorful potato leak soup, a refreshing citrus salad, salmon tacos, and a fig bacon flatbread. You can absolutely tell all the ingredients were fresh and high quality. I am not understanding the great reviews for this place. The decor is great with limited seating and very, very loud. Difficult place for dinner conversation. We ordered the Carpe Diem pie which consisted of blobs of pesto, blobs of cheese and chopped, mealy fresh tomatoes. Other than the blobs of pesto dotted on the pie, it was pretty tasteless. The best part was the cracker thin crust. We ordered a garden salad. The arugula was limp and over saturated with dressing. The components of the salad competed with each other as opposed to complimenting each other. We also had the sliders. The burger shaped like a meatball was delicious. It is smothered in their homemade ketchup which reminds me of tomato sauce. The sliders are served on a wooden board which gives a nice presentation. But I couldn't help but think how they clean that wooden board between servings and sanitation. After having an amazing meal down the road at Sam's Steakhouse the night before, we were disappointed in this meal which costs more. Stemwinders has failed to call me back. read more
