Really simple eatery. My boyfriend and I came on a hot summer day and got an outdoor table in the shade. They do have air conditioned tables inside. The food was so bad, no flavor! The concept of self service , self ordering and self seating is fine, but to ask for a tip is ridiculous to me. We had German poutine, basically cream of mushroom soup on fries with a few clumps of cheese. The beer soaked brat was flavorless and the blackberry sauce chicken wings were horrible, no flavor at all, kids chicken tenders were good sized, again, no flavor, the crispy chicken sandwich was dry and needed seasoning. Only visited for a last stop of beer before heading back home and it was a treat! Did its job as a satisfactory last beer for the weekend. As a lover of stout beers, staff definitely helped me steer to the direction of the right beer I would like. I ended up choosing a Peanut Butter Milk Stout, coffee tones with a mix of creamy peanut butter. The place is dimly lit and has plenty of group seating. Not much duo seating is available. Another stop on our 98 degree day in Leavenworth. We ducked in for some air conditioning and a cold beer, lucky for us it was happy hour. Every place is evolving into the counter service model, including this place. We ordered a happy hour deal that included a burger with French fries and a beer for $9.50! A fantastic deal in a livery touristy town. The beer was local, cold and delicious. The burger was a little tough as if the meat was over worked or mixed, the French fries were warm and had obviously been premade and sitting under a heat lamp but they were seasoned well. Delicious sausages! 6 of us had lunch here last Sunday. It's a very nice self serve restaurant to have lunch at. One you grab a menu Two go find a table and make note of what table you are at by the placard on the table. Three you walk up to the counter and place your order and give them the table location Four go back to your table and wait for it to be delivered to you. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual and on the loud side. At the time we were there the music was alternative rock. In the evening when we walked by the music changed to classic rock. Everyone thought their meal was delicious. Really can't go wrong with sausages but they were very juicy and tasty. The pretzel and cheese sauce was good. We also ordered the cheese curds. We've been to Colchucks (previously known as the Bavarian Bistro) upstairs many, many times, but somehow, never frequented it's kissing cousin Stein, just below it. They're owned by the same entity, but operate independently, so there's a little bit of cross-over in terms of their food and beverage options. However, Stein is the more family-friendly of the two, better equipped to accommodate parents and children simultaneously. There are a handful of arcade games to keep the kids occupied, while Mom and Dad are engrossed in selecting from the ludicrous selection of beers, wines, ciders, and on-tap cocktails, as well as a seasonal selection of specials. Available entrées are mostly standard pub fare, consisting of burgers and sandwiches, salads, rice bowls, and artery-obstructing fried foods. Having already eaten, I ordered my (one and only) Gluhwein for the season here, and it was one of the tastiest I'd ever had: warm and tart, without being too "medicinal", as some others tend to be. My wife knocked back two of the Chata Chocolates (Rumchata hot chocolate), and even I have to admit (as someone who dislikes anything sweet or sugary) that it was a damn fine drink, especially on a frigid December evening! The interior aesthetic, which I would describe as "rustic, industrial log-cabin", is spacious enough to host large parties (such as ours) without a wait, which is, again, another perk for parents of impatient rugrats. In addition to the aforementioned arcade games, any TVs not currently engaged in displaying the list of microbrews are likely to be showing some sort of sporting event, or sport-adjacent activity; we were treated to surfing videos, replete with sunny, sandy shores, while two feet of snow fell outside on the streets of Leavenworth. I'm not sure it will dethrone the Leavenworth Cider House as my favorite family-friendly drinking spot in town, but Stein offers a suitable alternative, both in environment, and in the variety of beverages and edibles available within. Of course, I didn't give it a fair shake, either. We'd only stopped in after having dinner elsewhere, as it was one of the last places open in town that late into the evening. We came here for lunch after looking for a spot that didn't have a wait and a good amount of seating. You order at the counter, and then they give you a number and you choose the table that you want to sit down at. It was quite busy inside, but there were a lot of large open tables so we had no trouble getting a seat. Water and condiments were also self serve, but they bring out your food to your table when you're ready. I got the beer battered brat without the bun, because they charge you an extra $2 for the bun and it didn't seem that necessary imo. It also comes with a side of fries, so definitely enough for a full meal. The brat itself was delicious! Well seasoned and juicy. I wasn't a big fan of the saurkraut but I think I'm also just not a lover of it in general. The fries were also nice and crispy with good potato-eyness. We also shared a pretzel, which was fantastic -- soo soft and great pretzel flavor, especially paired with the cheese sauce. Overall, a good spot for lunch! Love the selection of beers and ciders and the way the menu was organized! On a busy weekend day, the person manning the patio seating was super helpful in explaining how seating worked and we ended up ordering at the bar and had luck findings seats along the outside rail. Just as good as the patio if you ask me! The only food we got was a pretzel since we'd already been eating a ton all day. It was the best of the three pretzels we had over the weekend! It appears as though Leavenworth is making a comeback. The feel of the place is much more like it was before all the lockdowns. Stein was where we landed for our lunch and we weren't disappointed. The people working there were extremely friendly and helpful...and the food was GREAT! The house root beer they make themselves was a wonderful addition to our meal. Super overpriced touristy location!! They pride themselves on having 55 beers on tap but don't have any explanation on the menu of what the beers even are. So you have to stand at the bar, which is where everyone stands to place their drink & food order to try to read the specs on their beers! We bought 2 souvenir steins, which don't come filled, for $25 each! That was our choice to buy the souvenir steins but then be prepared to spend $17 to get it filled! My daughter & I split a lunch sampler platter & had our steins filled once and the total was $130! Personally, I find that ridiculous. Fantastic little spot. Loved the music and drinking hall vibes, employees were friendly and the environment felt like they probably enjoyed working there. Tons of beer on tap, and as someone who doesn't like IPAs it was awesome to see so many stouts, dunkels, and wheat beers on tap for my wife and I to try. Root beer was good too. They have a solid pretzel with beer cheese, the fried cheese curds were great. We ate dinner there twice. Taco Tuesday was 100% worth attending with $2.50 street tacos that are legit. My partner and I were in Leavenworth for Oktoberfest and stopped by Stein to grab food on Friday night. This place was pretty packed but we were able to steal the last table for two. Cool vibes inside, order at the counter and lots of beer options to pick from (40+ beers!). We split a beer Stein of their oktoberfest beer (1L for $14) and a meat sampler for two ($22). Meat sampler for two came with bratwurst and sauerkraut, ribs, beans, cornbread, and Mac and cheese. The portion was surprisingly small for a two person sampler platter. The bratwurst was below average tasting. The bbq ribs had a weird aftertaste and texture. Mac and cheese was bland and worse than boxed mac. Cornbread was soggy and not super tasty. Beans were very bleh and not memorable. Needless to say, food overall was pretty disappointing and we left not very satisfied.
