    Navajo taco - it's BIG!!
    Steve T.

We visited Steer 89 two times during our stop in Page. Our first visit was for lunch and was just fine - we tried the Navajo taco (which was quite tasty) and the service was attentive and friendly. I had a draft sitting at 4 stars after that experience. Our second experience was for dinner a day later. The restaurant was maybe 20-25% full. While we were greeted quickly, we couldn't be seated until "the servers got their orders in the system and caught up." This was a bit strange to us, but not a big deal. About ten minutes in, we were seated in a populated area of the restaurant. The gentleman who seated us asked what we wanted to drink and said a server would be with us shortly. Fast-forward maybe 15 minutes and a server stops by, asks if anyone has helped us yet, acts surprised no one has, and says someone will be by shortly. After this brief, but pleasant interaction, I looked at the time on my phone and gave them 5 more minutes. Once those past, my wife and I promptly walked out of the restaurant. On our way out, no one said anything to us or acknowledged had taken place. I'm generally not an impatient person, but given how empty the restaurant was and the fact that we saw at least three servers running around, I found it unacceptable that we were basically forgotten despite sitting in the middle of the busiest area of the restaurant. Based on our second experience, I can't really recommend Steer 89 anymore. It seems like their food is decent, but they need to improve/streamline their process and not ignore seated guests when the restaurant isn't busy.

Ate here 2 times. First night salad bar and ribeye. Food was really good. Hubby and I shared steak and potato. Second day, ate Navajo Taco. It was very good! Also shared with hubby and had salad bar and we didn't finish it, it's that much food! Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

That delicious Navajo Taco. Pretty good sized as well.

A fairly new place. Seems popular with the tourists since the only other patrons were a group of tourists. Parking was a bit strange as we parked on a dirt section right off the road. Didn't seem to be too much space for others. Anyway, plenty of seating when we got in. We were told by our Lower Antelope Canyon tour guide to try a Navajo Taco, but the first place, seemingly most popular place, that popped up was closed (only open one hour...), so we found this one as a backup. The server was great and he attended to our order and other needs quickly. Had simple recommendations and they were good ones. The Navajo Taco was delicious and very filling. The fry bread made it awesome too. I do want to try the opened only one hour in a day place, but if that's closed, I would highly recommend Steer 89. Heck, even if that place is open, you can't go wrong here.

Navajo taco! First time trying fry bread, really light and fluffy!

Seemed like a pretty new restaurant, dropped by after touring the canyons in the area. We were searching to try out a Navajo taco, as the fry bread apparently is only in Navajo territories. It was delicious and fully. I would drop by for it again if I were in the area. There were plenty of tables, and looked like lots of space in the back for events. The bathrooms were towards the center of the restaurant and were single occupancy for the cowgirls-- would definitely have a line in an event. Service was friendly and place has a nice old western feel to it.

This is probably the best Navajo Taco I have eaten! The portion was large, the fry bread light as a feather and the ingredients absolutely delicious! Our server was delightful! We were too full to have dessert but it looked great!

    Prime rib special!

We are from out of town and staying at the hotel next store and decided to give it a go. We wanted a good steak place for our Anniversary dinner. We had a really good experience here. The special was prime rib. It was really good and nice sized. The special also came with veggies, potato and soup and salad. We also decided to try the najavo bread and it was delicious. Our waitress was super. She made us feel welcomed even tho we weren't locals. The service was great. Whenever we are in Page again we will definitely eat here. Great customer service and atmosphere. Thank you for a nice dining experience for our special anniversary dinner.

Lyle at the bar was awesome and the reason for an extra star. they have a few local beers on tap, but we only came here for the Navajo taco and weren't disappointed. It's big enough to share as an appetizer or split in two for dinner. It's basically Navajo fry bread topped with mild beef and beef chili, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and red onions. It came with sides of sour cream and Pace salsa. There are few places in town to find Navajo taco and I thought for the excellent service and small bite, this was a good choice for dinner.

Extremely fast and friendly service the steaks seem a bit overpriced I did not buy one I just had the salad bar which was awesome for 8.99 my son had the club sandwich and fries it didn't come with any mayonnaise but he asked for some and they brought it right out they been open for 2 months now it was a previous restaurant before they took it over.

Walking into Birdhouse, a converted drive-through restaurant, at 6PM, we were greeted with a short…read moreline wrapping around the order counter. It moves pretty quickly since the menu, full of fried chicken and staple sides, isn't too complicated. Birdhouse is a counter service establishment so the food doesn't take very long at all to cook and assemble. In our case it took only about 10 minutes. Thigh + Leg, Original ($11) - Instead of the advertised thigh and leg, the meal came with 3 pieces of chicken - one leg and 2 thighs! It wasn't just us; I saw other customers also getting three pieces. Finally a restaurant that underpromises and overdelivers! The breading on the chicken is a really dark golden brown, initially making me assume it was overfried. Biting into the breading, a really strong crunch shatters on the teeth. It's a hard crunch vs. the crisp that a normal fried chicken skin exhibits. Perhaps they enhance the mixture with rice flour and evercrisp? It's really quite amazing especially with how thin the breading looks. Even with the dark color, the interior remains moist and juicy; in fact, upon my first bite, a stream of chicken juice shot up onto my glasses! The meat has clearly been brined as it's super flavorful, and there's plenty of salt and pepper mixed into the breading to add even more oomph. The fat is rendered nicely and everything is served piping hot. They really know what they are doing with their chicken! A meal comes with one side of which we went with the Seasoned Fries. These are crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoning salt. The fry level isn't the most even, with some pieces being a little more dried out, but most still having tender interiors. I'd probably go with a different side in the future. (5/5) Thigh + Leg, Honey Butter ($11) - I believe this is literally the same fried chicken but with honey butter melted over the top. It adds some richness and sweetness, but is otherwise the same excellent fried chicken. For the side with this meal, we went with the Broccoli Salad w/ Bacon. It's pieces of crunchy raw broccoli mixed with tiny pieces of bacon in a light creamy dressing with a bit of sweetness. (5/5) Birdhouse makes their sauces in house which they supply for most orders. The first is their special honey mustard which, as the name implies, is sweet and mustardy. The second is a buttermilk ranch, creamy and tangy. It's very fresh and seems to have fresh herbs mixed in. After several days eating bland (but very fresh!) food in the Navajo Nation, we finally had a meal with actual seasoning! We were impressed enough that we went back the next day to try the final chicken flavor. This time it was earlier at 5PM and for some reason the line was even longer! Yet it took less than 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Thigh + Leg, Spicy ($11) - The base chicken is the same texture and flavor as above. The only difference is a liberal dusting of cayenne pepper spice mixture on top. They don't use any hot oil, so it's only dry spice on the outside, applied right after frying so it all sticks on. The powder is spicy enough to heat up the mouth and lips, but isn't enough to get me sweating at all. I'd compare to something between mild and medium at a hot chicken shop. There's just a hint of sweetness in the mixture - I actually wished it was boosted up a bit more. Still great fried chicken though! (5/5) Birdhouse really serves some great fried chicken. Reasonably priced, delicious food, great portions, there's not much more I could ask for. It was so good that we ended up eating here both nights we stayed in Page! Bathrooms - Single unisex room outside on the back side of the restaurant.

We decided on Gone West Family Restaurant based on their solid reviews and we thought that American food (especially with a Western theme) would be the way to go. When in Rome! We stopped by on a Saturday evening for dinner. Parking is easy in the complimentary lot they share with several other businesses including a Chinese restaurant right next door. Ambiance (4.5/5): Pretty much what I was hoping for. Gone West is a spacious restaurant with one large dining room and another large dining room. The difference? The one in the back has a stage where they play live music. So, if you want a quieter atmosphere, choose the first room. If you want to enjoy some live music while you dine and drink, choose the back room. We sat in the back room. A band played various covers while we were there which we enjoyed. The decor is also awesome with a lot of Western and country decor including John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and more. Service (4/5): The hostess was super nice and accommodating which was a nice way to kick off the experience. Our waiter was pretty solid. He could have stopped by a little more frequently, but overall, did quite well. Drinks (4/5): I went with an Arnold Palmer (they only had pink lemonade unfortunately) so not a lot to right home about. With that being said, they have a decent beer list and several cocktails. Food (5/5): I went with the Chicken fried steak sandwich with spiral fries. CFS on a sandwich?! I couldn't say no. Country fried steak is one of my favorite Southern dishes, but I've never had it on a sandwich before. Check out their concept: breaded steak on a bed of mashed potatoes topped with green onions, gravy, and a fried egg with your choice of side. This was a great sammie! It was quite messy, but given how delicious it was, I didn't mind. The fries were delicious too, and it was a generous portion. The type of portion where you can easily have leftovers. Everything I was hoping for and more in this dining experience. While the food options in Page aren't vast (and as impressive as larger cities), Gone West should be at the top of your list!

Food arrived quick, server was friendly...but disappointing across the board on the meal. Two kids got burgers, hard and lacked flavor. One got bbq pork, just didn't taste great. The country fried steak sandwich had hopes...and honestly may have been the best of what we had. We had all 3 types of fries, each underwhelming - but sweet potato fries probably the best. For the price, food needed to be better. And then took forever to get check to cash out.

The restaurant has lots of seating and feels very laid-back and great for the end of a long day on the lake. I had one of the craft beers, Camp fire kolsch, which was delicious. For food I got the Hot Honey chicken sandwich, grilled- which was fantastic. We ordered a side of fries as the burgers do not come with fries. As for service, our server was very to-the-point, not quite friendly but not rude. It was okay for me because I was ready to be done for the day, but most of our party didn't feel welcomed by our server's attitude and we're all generally easy going. We paid our bill with cash, when our server came back with the receipt he dropped it with us and left with the change. I try to make a point of tipping generously, at least 20% but I'm not really okay with someone helping themselves to a 40% tip. He came back after a few minutes of us sitting there (wondering if he forget or really took off with our change) and gave us our change- we still left 20% for him because maybe it was just a forgetful moment... All in all, good food and drink, service could use some polishing.
