I'm so glad we decided to venture to this little gem in spite of the few negatives reviews I read; which were really very silly. This restaurant is not a prepackaged, boxed food, chain restaurant. In fact it's really special and if you take the time to drive here you should take the time to scan the walls. They are filled with accolades and awards won over the years. I have no vested interest in this establishment nor I don't know the owner/chef. I'm just another traveler passing through, looking at this place more as a living piece of American culture, while avoiding all of the fast food spots dotted along the roads. I wasn't there when someone served overcooked food, but I will tell you that if something wasn't quite right a mere conversation with the sever would've resolved the issue. Dealing out nastiness isn't serving anyone and it isn't helping the management make things better for your dining experience and it isn't serving the community overall. We found everyone to be very nice & efficient at their jobs. The 2 of us arrived Sunday, 8/16/26, at 1pm. We were greeted & seated by a pleasant young person, which promptly was followed up with our server, Lauren, taking and serving our drink orders. Our Salads, Crab & Crawfish Cakes soon followed and cooked as requested; cooked throughout with no soft, fleshy middle. We also ordered and shared the Grilled Chicken, green beans & carrots -- DELICIOUS! Lightly seasoned, juicy & very tender. It was the best chicken we've eaten in a very long time. We skipped desert since we had to get back on the road to Texoma; but, we will definitely seek this place out and dine here again in the future. I took as many photos as time allowed. Lunch here today after about a 1.5 year absence. Not too crowded, foods still GREAT, I had the Aubergine Napoleon w/ crawfish & crabmeat, side of grilled fresh asparagus.. Wife had the crawfish "enchiladas" in cheddar sauce. both were just wonderful. Reminded us to not stay alway so long. This place is about 25" North of the IH10-IH 49 intersection in North Lafayette. Our first time to eat dinner at Steamboat Warehouse. The service was excellent from the moment we opened the door. No reservations required. Our waitress Crystal was perfect. She answered our questions about different menu items. We ordered our appetizers stuffed bell pepper. As soon as we both took the first bite we knew we made the right date night decision. Having had a good meal there some time ago I was hoping for more of the same, but a recent mid-week group dinner there was very disappointing. An Old Fashioned cocktail was fine although (to my mind) overpriced at $18. I skipped a starter looking forward to one of their specialties, the $44 Grass Fed steak. Over-cooked, a bit gristly and waaaay over spiced; the stuffed potato was simply a small foil-wrapped baked potato with trimmings on the side. Following the steak, I passed on desert. My husband got the redfish and our fried got baked chicken. It was all good and we had no complaints. Wonderful old building located on the bayou. The food is easily rated as good as the top 3 restaurants in the Lafayette area and is one of the best in the state. Recent business trip took the group here for a Tuesday night dinner and I'm happy we made the drive. They didn't offer seafood gumbo so I started out with the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo which was thick and excellent. There are too many good sounding selections on the menu to mention but I ended up with one of the evening's specials which consisted of an 8 oz blue catfish filet smothered with a creamy seafood sauce with fresh Bluepoint crabmeat. This restaurant used to be very good, however, in the last year it has really gone down in quality. My dad always gets the best steak on the menu and I couldn't believe what he paid almost $30 for! His Ribeye steak was overcooked and very, very thin. The other dishes my mother and I had were seafood and the fish was dry, overcooked and the sauces on the top looked like they were old and had been left sitting for hours. This is a cool place to visit, although we are always disappointed in the food. It's pricey for what you get and not nearly as good as anywhere else in Acadians. The serving sizes are a little small and flavor is very rich and heavy. They love their sugar carrot sides and it would be better to have other options. Painfull and sorry to see the economy downgrade this once great restaurant. We work hard for our money and when we choose to eat out we expect at least some value or entertainment for our $. We dined there on a Saturday night. This was a throwback to my youth as it was our regular Saturday night spot for family dinners back in the mid-late 1980's. I wanted to revisit for nostalgia's sake. It didn't disappoint. As we entered the very busy restaurant and headed to the bar for a beer while we waited for our food, we commented on how busy they were. A patron replied that this is the only restaurant in a 40 mile radius and I think it's true. The hostess estimated our wait time to be around 20 minutes, but it was more like 40-45. We were grumbling as we waited for a table and noticed that many of the patrons were regulars and seemed to get preferential service/treatment. After a longer than anticipated wait, we were seated at a table by the door. Our server took her time in greeting us - she was working hard, but also spent a great deal of time socializing with the patrons (she knew them) at the table next to us - catching up on the local news/gossip. It was frustrating, but the food was delicious. After the table next to us left, our service began to improve. I also found a signature of my father's left in 1985 when we dined there with him - it was on the table where we were seated. Truly, a very unique and unexpected treasure to find. The gumbo is delicious, you must try it! I had the seafood au gratin and found it tasty. I used to love their "paddlewheel potatoes" (mashed potatoes with sausage) and they still have a variation on those. I found them to be flavorless aside from the sausage. They could use some improvement and they would be out of this world. The carrots (the vegetable that came as a default side) were doused in honey. A great thing if you want to convince your kids to eat their veggies. I don't need that much sugar on top of my carrots, but I appreciate the effort. They were tasty. My husband had a steak (ribeye) and wasn't all that impressed, but we're spoiled when it comes to steaks (we have a fantastic steakhouse very near our house that we visit often). Tip: ask to sub the gumbo for the salad - there's a slight upcharge, but well worth it! read more

Most surrealistic night in a long time.... Arrived at the restaurant at 6:15 asking for a table for 12. We were told to wait in the bar. Of course we were happy to oblige, lol. Our bartender was fantastic, providing samples of all the drinks he was making for guests so we could have a more educated guess on what to drink. Wow. What a great start of the night!!! Some guy came up (Bob) and started a conversation with a member of our party. He was clearly intoxicated and informed us he wasn't just "some coon ass, but a member of the Cajun Mafia." LOL. He was going to sit us down at a table being cleared for another group, even if he had no affiliation with the restaurant. It was hilarious. (Maybe because the drink tasting???) Anyway, long story short, it took us almost 2 hours to get seated. Another 15 minutes to get water and an appetizer order in. Our waiter wasn't to be seen most of the night. We FINALLY got our food about three hours into our "dining experience" and it was old, mostly cold and uninspired. Too much time under the red light cooking other peoples food would be my guess. Most of us weren't hungry anymore, it was around 9PM now and the awesome bartender started taking its toll. LOL. All of this would be fully acceptable for a beer joint that serves greasy food at low low prices, but this place fancies itself as a quality restaurant. A regular entree is priced around 25$, you can't get away with mediocre. Anyway, we might be back, but only to sit at the bar, that part was awesome. The food sure wasn't worth it. The cook made my dish one too many times and poured no love or special care into it. Because of the party size the tip was included in the check, and clearly the motivation for our waiter was gone. Slow and uninterested. Got order, brought food, never cleaned up appetizer plates and empty glasses, people walked to the bar to get their own water. My dinner bill, for two people, including mandatory tip, was around 90$. No alcohol, we drank water. I regularly spend more on dinner with my wife and sometimes it even lasts 3+ hours. But those surely won't be 3 hours spent waiting, irritated with poor service and warmed up greasy mounds of uninspired food. read more

It really looks like an old wooden warehouse. I know that's not for everyone but we liked it. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Patiently described the food items we asked about. The food. This was a great detour on our way home today. Found it on Yelp. The food was amazing and well worth the stop. It's kind of a hidden gem but if you find yourself in the area you have to stop. Great food and great service! We started out with the stuffed mushrooms & crab cakes. For entrees we had Crawfish Palmetto, Flounder Etienne (one of the specials), Seafood Augratin, Softshell Cypremont (she swapped the herb sauce for Palmetto sauce). The entrees were served with either potatoes or rice and carrots. We all shared bites from each other's plates and EVERYTHING was delicious. When it came to dessert, we decided to once again share-we ordered one of everything: cheesecake, pecan pie, and creme brûlée. Sadly, they were out of bread pudding.
