Cooking your order
Ivan R.

This was a great burger today. I ordered a burger shake and fries. All my food was made to order, fresh, and super tasty. I chose to dine in because I was killing time before a flight back to Houston. You place your order at a kiosk which eliminates the need for a cashier. That is cool but impersonal. I believe the way you are greeted sets the pace and tone of your experience. My food was exceptional. They hit it out the park today.

So honestly, I am not a fan of the burgers.. they are a step up from McDonald's.. but the ice cream?? Definitely should have came here just for the ice cream like I intended, but I never had a Steak N Shake burger, so I thought why not give it a try.. Yeah bad decision, now I must eat my regret I paid $3.99 for & It's quite RARE that I eat fries, (they have to be REALLY REALLY GOOD) I could have done without.. 2 Stars for the Ice cream alone. Great customer service by the way

My friend writing down her order on the notepad the waitress gave us since she was "busy" with another group.

A few months ago, my group (of about 20 people) came into this place while it was empty. We sat down and were having a fine time chatting it up and looking over the menu. Meanwhile, another party comes in a few minutes after us (also about 20 people) come in, and now the place is full. We tell our waitress that the other group was NOT with us, and she proceeded to go around our tables to take our order (we were in 4 tables). She took everyone's order, except my table. And then went directly to the other group and took their orders. AFTER we literally just told her that they were not a part of our group. My table of six were upset watching her take the orders of the other group and were even more furious when she brought out, not just our other tables orders, but orders from the other group first. When we finally flagged her down, she gave us her notepad and asked us to write down what we wanted on it so she could help the other table, leaving us to do her work. And it took us even longer because we were looking over the notepad trying to find all the different check boxes for food/drinks/shakes and all variations of those options, etc. We had to scarf down our food as fast as we could since the rest of our group was already finished and we had to leave, therefore causing us to not be able to just relax and enjoy our food. Seriously, what waitress does that? Super unprofessional, and we discussed how horrible the service was as we were driving away.

Always a long wait

Do not go here if in a hurry, so slow, they get your orders wrong almost every time. The staff is usually friendly and the price is reasonable if you can actually get what you order..within the hour.

Sept 30, 2017 Our server Dominque R was the first friendly face we saw in Missouri. Prices are super cheap. We ordered the $3.99 double steak and fries and what a deal! The first time I ate at a Steak &Shake 3 months ago in Illinois I didn't think I'd ever come back. But I'm glad I did because the presentation and quality was much better at this location! I need to try the shakes, which are Zagat rated #1.. the sign says. I just can't eat a burger fries AND a shake. So maybe next time I'll try the cup of chili and shake Bathrooms were immaculate as was the rest of the establishment. Just a quick jaunt from STL Airport. They also have a drive thru and a walk-up take out counter. This is far better than your traditional fast food places at equal or less the cost. Would definitely revisit THIS Steak&Shake.

TONIGHT I went to two different steak 'n Shake locations both of which stated their hours online were open until midnight. However both were closed before 11:30 PM. So I found a third location online which stated their hours were until 2 AM so to save myself time since I had already wasted so much by going to two other locations I called the third location to make sure the hours listed online were accurate. When they answered I asked how late they were open and this is how the conversation went.. Me: Hi how late are you open? S&S: Well did you get this number online? Me: Yes I did. S&S: Okay then you can view our hours online. Me: I have been to two other locations who have their hours incorrectly listed online so I wanted to make sure yours were correct S&S: Well our hours are not listed incorrectly. So if you want to know how late we are open, you can look online. Me: You have now wasted 30 seconds on this phone call when you could have answered my question in 5 seconds S&S: You're being rude and I do not appreciate the attitude Conversation continued where the employee proceeded to call me names.... I am disgusted with the lack of respect and the entitlement of someone. I've never been spoken to in such a disrespectful, unnecessary way. Left me in tears for no reason & ruined my evening. Steak & Shake will NOT be receiving my business! Richard = GREAT EMPLOYEE!!! Female taking calls = FIRE HER A$$ !!!!

I'm not even going to comment on the food because the service was so atrocious. I ordered a meal for myself and extra fries and shake for my kid. After confirming that I wanted an extra order of fries they still forgot to give it to me. I did not check to make sure I got everything because I was in an unfamiliar city in the rain. Also, the employee literally waved me on after giving me the order. No thanks, just go away. It's a couple of dollars but this business essentially stole from me. I should have trusted my instincts and gone to Rally's.

It came out hot and fresh and the burger was melt in your mouth buttery and juicy with crispy edges. I ordered the Super Nova with pickled jalapeños, secret sauce, and pepper jack cheese. Just the right level of spice, I would definitely order it again. We also ordered the Nebula loaded fries which were also hot and delicious. I loved the white cheese sauce they put on the waffle fries. Service was quick and they directed us to where we could find condiments and napkins etc. since there's open seating. We really enjoyed our meal and I would definitely go back and try their various other burgers and loaded fries.

It looked delicious and I had to know what she ordered. We walked back and stood in line to order. There were only 3 workers working, and the guy taking the orders had gloves on while handling money. I had to ask him to change his gloves before going back to handle food. He was polite, and changed his gloves. I ordered the last encounter fries. It gave deconstructed burger vibes. It had waffle fries, hamburger, lettuce, tomato's, jalapeños, guacamole and sour cream. The fries were cooked perfectly, the hamburger had the crunchy edges even though it was crumble pieces. The cheese sauce was creamy but a little thick for my liking. For $10.00 they loaded the to-go box down.

Service was great at both the counter and the table. I had the Split & Melt which was delicious. Crispy smash patties, gooey cheese, buttery bread. I also opted to add heirloom tomato to it which added a nice brightness to it. My mom ordered the double, which she said was amazing. We ordered a variety of sides to share. The mac and cheese was amazing, the onion rings were flavorful and crispy, and the fries were also very well seasoned and crispy. Overall, everything was a 10/10. Also, I loved that their fountain sodas are Excel sodas. Will definitely be back to try their draft beers and more burgers!

Price: All together, with a dollar tip, I paid $27 and change, which to me is incredibly pricey for counter service. $2 for a dipping sauce is steep, and for a small container. Next time? I'd skip the dipping sauce and homemade lemonade to save $7. I'll be back but not running to pay this much again. The storefront: the direct out front, small parking lot was packed and people were going into the gated lot to find parking. Only one person working the counter when you first walk in which lead to a long line at the dinner rush that seemed to be moving pretty slow. We got in before the rush and got our food quickly after. Staff were kind and very helpful! Fairly clean with the food runners circling tables often to remove trash.

They won me over with the tiny dedicated parking lot. At my big age, difficult parking situations are a turn off and I will go home if I can't get reasonable parking. I was able to snag a space in the lot and headed in. The space is a bit dark with rich sage, brass, and terracotta. There are several hanging plants making it an inviting place. The bar has plenty of comfortable seating and cozy tables if you decide to bring some friends. Caleb was our server during our visit. He was an absolute delight. He made excellent cocktail suggestions. He looked after our group without being overly doting. Just a gem of a human. We tried approximately 9 cocktails during our visit. Did I mention we were at brunch! I highly recommend the peach bite and the Side Car. Every cocktail is thoughtfully made and well executed. They offer a small brunch menu along with the regular menu. I usually always get chilaquiles when they are available. But today the ruby trout and grits sounded perfect. This dish was amazing!! The trout was thin with crispy skin. The grits were creamy and delicious. The dish is topped with a house made radish pico and salsa macha. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich that was paired with the crispiest breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The burger and fries are also a good option. The seasoning on the fries is next level. The brunch menu has a sticky toffee roll that is a perfect size for sharing or not. Salty sweet fork tender cinnamon roll. Lastly, the deviled eggs were a group favorite. I am a big fan of Passenger Chili Crisp. If you are unfamiliar please look them up! It's hands down the best chili crisp I've ever had. It's locally made here in STL and can also be found in several dishes at restaurants around town. The eggs were creamy with the right amount of tang from the mustard. The chili crisp made these deviled eggs easily top five best I've ever had! Planning to stop in again soon for happy hour with more friends

I enjoyed that quiet space for a bit and the afternoon air after the walk from Cortex made the wait feel intentional rather than inconvenient. Comfortable seating out here and the light breeze with the afternoon light was nice as I cranked out a few Yelp reviews before I spotted other customers going inside. After setting up at the huge table in the corner, I stepped up to the bar where I was warmly greeted. I chose their Fish Fry, which they call a light lager. It was in a huge mug and that worked out just fine for me as it lasted a while. Oh, and some chicken wings. These were tasty buggers. Served quite hot with a rub that was more spice than sauce. Very yummy and the two sauces were perfect accompaniment. Absolutely delicious. Not long after, friends arrived and I shifted from solo laptop time to conversation. It's nice to see how Rockwell handles the flow of customers. Casual, attentive, friendly. Just right for a great brewpub and a great time. They do have a parking lot. Rockwell Beer Company earns the association honestly. I walk in wary (I don't drink beer, don't like it, and an industrial brewery hugging a busy four-lane street is not my native habitat), I get the sense I need to eat in the corner so people don't discover the non-beer drinker; however, I walked out humming. The reason is the food, sourced through Street Food by Brasas. This is not brewery food that apologizes for itself. Pretzels, wings, both worth ordering again. The pizzas (barbecue, pepperoni) land in that rare category of elevated bar snack. I'd happily return for a table's worth. It's order at the window food service, which is fine for their vibe, but it keeps the environment to a self-service lower warmth environment. We sat outside, which is nice IF you can find some shade on a hot summer evening. 3.9 out of 5 stars The atmosphere isn't built for me, but the kitchen is good enough that I'd get over it to spend an evening with my beer-drinking friends. What would push this higher: a space that compels me the way the plates do.

The bar itself is unpretentious and welcomes everyone. While I was dining at the bar, the rest of the diners were a widely diverse mixture. Witnessing such a vast mixture of people, adds a positive twist to the vibe of the bar. The menu is simple. They focus on what they do best and that's why their smash burger is one of the best. Being a firecracker myself, I ordered the Firecracker Smashburger. It's a single patty, with Pepper Jack Cheese, Tomato-Onion-Jalapeno Relish, Drizzled with a Tangy Fire Ranch and served on a Martin's Potato Roll. The burger was juicy and had those crispy edges that a smash burger is known for. My favorite cheese is Pepper Jack, so that was a big plus for me. The relish added that extra kick that made it a true, Firecracker. I can't enjoy a burger without fries and Jack offers long skinny fries. They had a crispy shell and a soft hot inside. They were simply seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I was impressed that the ketchup was 100% Natural. That gets a big thumbs up. When enjoying a burger and fries, a nice cold beer is always the adult beverage of choice. JN offers a small variety of craft beers on draft and three popular Anheuser-Busch products. I enjoyed a Gumballhead from 3 Floyds Brewing. An American Pale Wheat is a perfect lunchtime beer. The bartenders are personable and offer warm service. I'm definitely coming back the next time I crave a smashburger.
