I don't even remember the last time I went to a Steak N Shake. It was probably at least three years ago. I know it is just barely (barely) a step above fast food but what has happened to this place? Yeah, I scored a "premium" shake for just over $2 on July 4th due to Happy Hour. It was hotter than hell so I thought that was a deal. But the ice cream they use, if they even still use real ice cream, just has no flavor at all. The floor was also really sticky. Like clearly someone spilled soda (like a whole gallon) and just paper towels were used to clean it rather than a mop. I mean the floor was really sticky. And I am not a person who notices that kind of thing or cares. There are Dairy Queens further east on 96th street and north on 116th/Allisonville. I'm sure there are some local options as well. Biglari has ruined this place. Go somewhere else for an ice cream fix.

I come from a land where great breakfast burritos can be found everywhere (you know the place), so my standards are high. And then I tasted the breakfast burrito at Mornings Breakfast & Brunch in Fishers. And now ... well. If someone asked me, now, where my favorite breakfast burrito is located, Mornings might pop into my head. Because the breakfast burrito here is bangin'. It's appropriately mushy in all the right places. (If you know me, then you know that "mushy" is a big compliment when describing a burrito.) It has hash browns that aren't too crispy, diced bacon (or whatever other meat you choose), scrambled eggs, cheese, all wrapped in a thin flour tortilla. The breakfast burrito also comes with a side of sour cream and salsa verde, plus an additional side. I chose fried potatoes. I got my breakfast burrito to go, like you should. Do people eat burritos sitting down in a restaurant? Aren't they made to be eaten in a car, precariously gripped in one hand, with the other had on the steering wheel, maneuvering around roundabouts? Or in a car, dripping sweat into the to-go container as you hover over it to shove the last bits of burrito into your face after a vigorous yoga session? Burritos are meant to be eaten in cars, obviously, so I got my breakfast burrito to go. Burritos, like many things, taste better when they're eaten in a car. When I visited Mornings early in the morning, the music was blasting in the dining room. I don't know if they always have it this loud, or if maybe they were just trying to pump up the staff, or if maybe I'm just old and everything is loud now, but the music was very loud. Like, "raise your voice to talk to the person across the table" loud. I guess just keep that in mind. Or let that be yet another sign that you need to get your food to go and eat it in your car.

Mornings easily lands in my top three breakfast spots…read more The space is clean and nicely decorated, with a welcoming, cozy feel. Andrea was incredibly kind even at 7 AM, which says a lot. The coffee is strong, fresh, and exactly what you need to start the day. The breakfast burrito is massive (seriously, it could feed an army), the pancakes are fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth good, and the hash browns are perfectly done. Everything came out quickly, thanks to Froy and Eduardo in the kitchen. I made sure to tell them how great the food was, and their big smiles said it all you can tell they genuinely care about both quality and service. There's plenty of parking, which is always a plus. If you're feeling a little lazy but still want a great breakfast, Mornings is the place. Go say hi to Andrea, Froy, and Eduardo, you'll be treated to a breakfast that feels like something your grandma made for you on a Sunday morning.

Tony's Cafe is a relatively small, family owned breakfast/brunch restaurant located in a fairly…read morenondescript strip center in Fishers. I must confess, and this is a bit of a generalization, that my experience has mostly been that when visiting a brunch restaurant you mostly forget about the "unch." In other words, when breakfast is the emphasis one should focus on breakfast. Tony's is along the lines of places like Lincoln Square, etc. They serve breakfast all day (closing at 3pm) and also serve lunch. I arrived on a Sunday about 1pm. I was in the mood for lunch, however, I was also a bit hesitant. I'd hoped to go to CR Hero's (located in an adjacent strip center), however, they're closed Sundays. Thus, I ended up at Tony's. Tony's has a full breakfast menu with all the usuals along with a lunch menu of sandwiches, burgers, chicken options, etc. I'm always on the lookout for a decent breaded tenderloin for my good buddy and fellow Yelper Rick G., so I opted for a breaded tenderloin with fries. This building has a handful of accessible parking spots along with curb cuts at both ends of the building. Tony's Cafe is toward the west end of the building. However, those spots were taken and I parked at the other end. There's a double-glass door entryway and then you're in the dining room. There's a small hosting area to the left - this is also where you pay. Service was friendly in a quiet way. I have to admit that the tenderloin was a bit of a disappointment. It was very mid-range. It came on a toasted bun with the usual tomato/lettuce toppings. It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was just sort of "meh." The fries, which are not crinkle-cut as pictured on their website, were also definitely mid-range. I was for sure wishing I'd opted for a breakfast selection. The iced tea was fine and in a decent-sized glass, though I was never offered a refill (a major faux pas for this iced tea lover). The bill came in at just over $15 without tip. I would not even think about ordering this meal again, though I likely would return and try breakfast since the atmosphere was fine and the service was friendly if unremarkable. The atmosphere? It's an opening dining room with booths on the side and tables in the middle. It's fairly nondescript, however, it's also definitely clean. I did not check out the restrooms on this visit. I was easily able to find a wheelchair friendly table and there was decent space between tables. Overall, this was a full-on mid-range experience. It definitely wasn't as solid as I'd been hoping going into it, however, it was a decent meal. Again, my gut told me to go for breakfast options and I likely should have listened to that. Business was modest, though it was getting near the end of the day when I finally left right around 2pm.

My wife had a side salad with hers. I enjoyed and order of their Shotgun Shrimp. The sandwich is very large, I cut mine half and got a full sandwich out of each half. The breading was good, not quite as crispy as some that we've had but it was good. The tenderloin itself had good flavor but had quite a bit of gristle. Serving temp was excellent, not mouth blistering, but not cool or cold like some have been I enjoyed the shotgun shrimp. Very tasty and satisfying. It could have used a little more kick, but my wife thought it was quite spicy so perhaps it was good. I just like it to tickle my mouth a little more. My wife loved her salad, crisp lettuce and the dressing was good Overall, a nice evening. The two things that would have moved my rating up to 5 would have been no gristle in the meat (we've been to 3 other places on this Trail and this was the only one that had gristle) and the background music made it difficult to talk. We left quickly because we couldn't visit comfortably Otherwise, we enjoyed the food, the ambiance was nice and the service excellent

The cutlet was a good size, the appearance was what you'd want, the cutlet far over the bun. Unfortunately it was dry and not particularly flavorful. The accompanying slaw (my preference instead of fries) was fine, as least it provided a counterpoint to the fried pork. But honestly, next time I'm in the area, I'd pass on Bubba's and probably won't be hankering for a pork sandwich again.
