Alrighty then! Hubby and I haven't been to a Steak n Shake for years - the prior time thru a drive thru - and we were hungry, darn it! So on a nice Sunday afternoon we headed on in to eat! Nice looking and clean- but no counter staff at all. You ordered via a kiosk. Ok - we both ordered a double cheeseburger with beef tallow fries- mine was with no onions, lettuce-tomato- mustard relish- 2 big pickle slices (yummy!) - and the fries were thin and small - likely about 11/2 mm wide sides - petit and a bit crunchy (yes!) Ok - the food came out quickly - the burger was yummy! Moist, a bit of grease drip (always a good sign) and the fries were just - how do I say -nostalgic in a good way! And the price for the double cheeseburger and fries? Amazingly affordable! Downright a great deal! Will we come back? Heck yeah! If you're tired of overpriced McDs and Wendy's? THIS is your spot! read more

I got the double Steakburger with cheese meal to go. The burger was pretty basic, but still good. Now that the place offers grass fed beef, I'm not sure if it's just a placebo effect, but the patties seemed richer and more flavorful. I was disappointed that the fries were cold, but overall, it's still okay. In my opinion, Steak 'n Shake is a solid fast food burger franchise, and the value is just right for what you get. read more

It's quite unfortunate how much this franchise has slid down the totem pole these days, since they clearly have life left and a message to send. Steak'n Shake has become of my buddy and I's go to meal spots, even though the location that was nearest to us (Randhurst) has closed it doors for good (RIP). The ability to get a great milkshake and some great food is tough to beat, though I'd certainly rank some local establishments and places like Portillo's much higher. Every time we've been to a SNS recently, its been sorta dead. A few people roll in occasionally, but it doesn't seem to get jumping like it used to. It would be nice to have a more lively feel inside. The self-order kiosks are new but useful, so no complaints there. For starters , some onion rings. A classic fried snack, and here, they do em' right, a Solid 8/10 . I went for a grilled cheese combo as my mains. The sandwich was great, and I enjoyed every last morsel. The fries are okay, they tasted good but nothing to write home about. My buddy had the garlic double steak burger , and seemed to like it, though not amazed by it. Of course no SNS meal is complete without a milkshake! I tried the cotton candy one, and my what a delight it was. Perfectly sweet and just right touch of that classic CC flavor. My friend had the Butterfinger one, and he gave praise for it also. They got some banger shakes here, lemme tell you! A great meal all around, one can never go wrong with Steak 'n Shake. read more

Been awhile since I visited here. I dined inside for a change. The restaurant is clean but I wasn't expecting to order from a kiosk. All the employees are in the back. No more taking your order at the table. Ok, so the ordering part was easy. I didn't quite understand the part where you get a scan code on the receipt on order to fill your drink. An employee helped me with that. I wish they would just fill the drink as part of the order. The food was very good. Hot and fresh. And those fries cooked in beef tallow! What a great change. I'll be choosing Steak and Shake more often. Tasted better and was less expensive than the place with golden arches. read more

Steak ’n Shake - Double steak burger meal. These tallow fries are terrific! - Burgers Near Me - Hoffman Estates, Illinois

I was so excited when I saw that they have chicken strips and that they now try everything in beef tallow!!! I ordered the three-piece chicken strips with tallow onion rings and they were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend coming here and trying it. My husband got the chili 5 way and loves it. Everything is self serve, you order off of a large tablet and if you order a drink the tablet will print a bar code that you have to scan to get the fountain drink machine to unlock for you. We had an offer on our receipt to take a survey and get a free shake so my husband did the survey and next time he goes in he will get a free shake. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. I miss being waited on and chatting with a waitress, but that's OK we are getting used to it. I b highly recommend coming here if you wanna have a nice visit with a friend and relax and maybe play a card game or board game... because nobody's going to be bothering you. There is also a lot of seating and I have never seen the restaurant more than 1/2 full. read more

My son had a coupon for a free small milkshake and to my surprise, it is now self service. You go to a kiosk order and pay for your food and then pick it up at the counter when it's ready. Very different from what I remember! It was very bright and clean in the restaurant. We weren't able to use the kiosk for the coupon so a worker had to enter it for us. She was very nice! If you like/love beef tallow, they sell it! $9 for grass fed and $12 for Wagyu! read more

The food was cold when we got it from the restaurant at our hotel room which was only 0.2 Miles away. Also half of our order wasn't here so my son had to go back to get it. These people suck read more

It's been so long since we stopped in a Steak n Shake but I couldn't think of anything negative on my recent visit so 5 stars it is! This place has always brought nostalgia to us in our young adult years and we were pleased that it was still a pleasant experience! Our family arrived late in the night and they were still an hour from closing, half of the chairs were put up on top of the tables but the remaining staff was all good to let us in (no thanks to Chicago Ramen -- read my other review about it) and put extra chairs down for us. We had no wait in ordering since they had opened kiosks. It was super easy process and it didn't even break a bank. We got our bellies filled for a family of 4 under $30 with drinks and kids meals. The most expensive "meal" was my Spaghetti Chili 5-Way at $7. With inflation in the economy nowadays, I'm shocked that price still exists Everyone loved the skinny fries and it tasted great with their Frisco sauce. The only thing that was a bit of a hassle is that you needed to keep a QR code to scan for drinks. But if the machine gives you any trouble just ask staff for help and you should be good to go. Another bonus is the bathroom was very clean and that's a great impression. We used to come here with our friends for late night meals and this place brought back some memories. I'm just glad they're still around and the food still tastes great. It's not your upper high end restaurant and if your expectations are in line, it's honestly the perfect place for a quick eat. Our whole family and kids loved it. We didn't get the shakes this time but will be back for it. Thanks for feeding us on a night where other places turned us away, Steak 'n Shake. You did nice! :) read more

It compleatly sucked! The chicken fingers were hard as a rock also they seemed old and the fries were cold and thin! The ambiance was kinda plain and not the best I've ever seen but I guess it was something, but I never am coming back for anything exept ice cream... read more

I always love this place for multiple reasons. One, they are open till late night / early morning. Two, they have their shakes at 50% after 2am. I Love their shakes and Original Double Steakburger with Cheese. Its just so juicy and yummy read more

Stopped by tonight for dinner and they never disappoint. Food at this Steak 'n Shake is always so good and fresh. I had the 4-4-4 Original double steak burger with cheese and fries tonight. Was very good! Bread was nice and fluffy, patty was juicy, crispy fries and food was piping hot. I also ordered a chili and it was my least favorite. Usually the chili's are delicious but tonight it was very salty. Super salty! Maybe it was the last batch, i'm not sure but was not edible. Customer service there was great! will definitely be coming back. read more

It's a Steak 'n Shake. One of the better ones. Service has been good every time we go here. Cleanliness is up to par (WAY better than some other Steak 'n Shakes) If your hungry, stop in for a quick bite and one of their famous (and DELICIOUS) Shakes. read more

I'm usually not a fan of national chains or fast food, but Im always down for Steak n Shake. It's inexpensive but doesn't skimp in quality. If you eat inside, you can also see the grill so you know how they're cooking your food. Highly recommend getting cheese on the side if you get fries! Their steak burgers are always cooked well and there's a variety of specialty options to choose from, so you can always mix it up. They also have REALLY good chicken tenders, honestly one of my favorite of fast food chains. Their shakes are unbeatable - reasonably priced and also a variety of flavors and specialty options! I had a true 5 star experience today when the worker gave me a free cup of whipped cream for my dog who was in the car. As if I needed another reason to return, I'll definitely come back to this specific location because that made my day - and my dog's!! read more

Came in here at 2am for a crisco melt, fries, and a mint chocolate shake to share with my BFF. We sat at the bar ordered, and our food/drink was served within 10 minutes. I was hesitant to eat it given how greasy and calorie dense this meal was, but it was tasty enough to be worth eating. The bill after 20% tip was roughly $13, which is appropriate for the amount of food we got. Sure it's more expensive than McD, but way tastier than McD. It's a shame they don't have a spot in Chicago, because I'd hit that joint up more often! read more

This HoffMan Estates Steak N Shake is pretty much what you would expect out of this chain. The food is consistently good quality. The staff at this restaurant are friendly. The only negative part of the experience is the long drive through wait. This is generally the situation at Steak N Shake drive throughs. The food is made to order, so it slows down the situation, you have to know what you are getting into with their drive through. It's never going to be as fast as a McDonalds or Wendy's drive through, but it will be better quality. read more

We really like Steak n Shake in general. We used to take the kids here for dinner after a class weekly. The class is over now but we still stop in when we can. The prices here are almost too good. We all ate until we burst for breakfast on Saturday, and the bill barely cracked $25. My 5 year old ate three pancakes. He will ususlly only do that for my wife or McDonalds. Fried eggs were a little too crispy but no other complaints about the food. However, the restrooms were atrocious. Seriously needed attention at 9 AM. Thry obviously had not been touched since the previous night. We notified the cashier when we left. If it is a regular thing, I would definitely have to knock a star off. read more

I was very taken aback by the rude service. There wasn't enough ice in my drinks, and when I went to pay with cash, and the lady screamed at me why I didn't put my card in yet. The fries here were gross and the waiter had a really bad attitude and gave me multiple side eyes. I also found a small hair in my shake and thought this was extremely repulsive and concerning to say the least. I was also extremely disheartened by the fact the meat was cold and grey and slightly grey. My grandma said that she was insulted because i took her to eat here for her birthday. read more

This place is tucked inside a oasis of restaurants, so it's somewhat easy to miss off of Higgins Rd. There's not a lot of these in the area, and I've been to a nearby church for years, and didn't realize there was one so close to take my lil monsters too. So this was a nice pleasant surprise when I found this place. Service was excellent and they got our order quick and accurate. If you've never been to a Steak N Shake before, milk shakes are what makes Steak N Shake shine, IMHO. You can mix and match different shake flavors and top em off with candy such as M&Ms. Overall, a great place to take kids during the weekend because kids eat free with every adult order. Score, for this cheap bastard! BATHROOM REVIEW: the men's has one urinal and steal. The stall was somewhat rickety, but I guess it gets the job done. A little grimy, but then again, Steak N Shake is a place opened 24/7. Sit or squat? Squat. read more

I came here on a Friday evening just to pick up some milkshakes...and apparently it is the to-go place for high school kids... Drinks/Food: Strawberry milkshake (~$3-4) - very VERY VERY sweet, kinda like blended ice cream so that you don't need to chew your ice cream.. instead.. you can slurp it.. :) **it's been awhile since i've eaten here.. the food is just a-ok, but cheap... Milkshakes in general are all really really sweet.. so don't come here unless you have a sweet tooth! (I think they have discounted milkshake prices starting at 2AM or something...if you would rather be drinking a milkshake then sleeping.. or you can drink your milkshake while you sleep (for those always hungry ppl) Costs: Classic milkshakes are cheaper than the special milkshakes (ex: s'more milkshake or something)..ranges from $4+ for a decent portion..more than enough sugar/calories than you may need in one day...and the food food costs are reasonable... The only reason it is getting a 2-Star review instead of a 1-Star is because the food was really good and the service was decent. However when I am seated in my booth and I go to stand up I shouldn't hear the sound of my feet leaving the floor. The floor was gross and sticky. The bathroom was nasty. There was some poop dried on a toilet. The floor was sticky and it smelled funny. Overall the food was great. The service was good. But the cleanliness of the restaurant was horrendous. And if the restaurant was this nasty I would hate to see the kitchen. read more

Soooo good, even considering the usual stomach issues that typically occur after consuming a meal here. But Peter B. is right, this Steak n Shake (as most) does seem to attract a really odd collection of patrons. High school kids, hometown people back for the holidays (AKA me), and random old people that probably go there every day for the early bird. My absolute favorite is the Frisco Melt. I can't even begin to really describe it properly - I drool just thinking about it. Steakburger with "Thousand Island dressing" (it doesn't really taste like Thousand Island - it's BETTER), and a big layer of melted cheese. It's an orgasm between two slices of bread. I also like their shoestring fries, and of course, the requisite shake (made with real milk and ice cream). I've never had a problem with service here. The servers do look like they're annoyed when there's a particularly large group of people, but I'm sure I would be annoyed too. After your meal, don't sit around waiting for your server to take your money - you pay for your check up at the counter. Num num, definitely an old standby when I go back home! read more

We had dinner at this restaurant on Friday night. The restaurant was busy. The parking lot was full. This place is organized and cleaned. The staff is friendly and helpful. Food was ready in timely manner in spite of the dinner rush. All the food was delicious. I enjoyed a nice Triple Steak Burger with fries. The restaurant was clean but a tad cold. My food came out steaming and the first bite was delicious. Condiments are available at your table (ketchup, mustard, steak sauce) My food was very tasty. Fantastic but did not deserve five stars because of the bathroom. There was paper all over the floor. I had a great experience but the bathroom kind of ruined it. read more

Restaurant Review I can find the shake, but where's the steak! The whole concept of premium steak in my burger was novel back 5 years ago before premium angus burgers started to hit the menu at McD. I use to crave coming to steak and shake to eat there steak burgers and always would leave wondering why my experience is so so. Most likely because the steak burgers themselves are very thin minced up patties of unrecognizable beef with a super lightweight burger bun. The pictures sell you on the most wonderful burger but really the burger itself is worse than McD. I would always get the burger dinner combo which is not on the menu and comes with 2 sides. I ended up getting onion rings which were over fried that the rings themselves look dark brown and shoe string fries that tasted off. Maybe it is something with the oil. Now there is ONE positive and that would be the wonderful milk shakes at steak n shake. I can't say I have ever had a bad milk shake here. The double chocolate fudge was perfect with rich chocolate milk shake and fudge throughout. I should just come here for the milk shakes! Pro- best milk shakes in the world! friendly service Con- terrible burgers, sides..... Hidden deal- Check out your weekly newspaper ads for coupon to save on combo meals and the dinner combo w/ milk shake which is not on the menu. I love this fast food in Hoffman Estates. It is my first time to try them and the place was the usual fast food spot but it was incredibly clean inside. We used the kiosk while ordering our foods and I must say that it is better and it is way easier. Food was quick. We prefer to dine in to enjoy the experience inside and we never regret. This location is the best. I never pass it by. Always top notch and highly recommend this restaurant.

I ordered All American burger today and there was almost no meat. The burger patty was so thin I felt like I was eating just a bun with some pickles. 30 minutes after I eat the burger I had so much pain in my stomach I couldn't even walk I was feeling so bad. Five Stars for being open on Christmas Eve- very few places of any sort were open- but, Steak ' n Shake was, so kudos for that-. 3 Stars for the food and service. I had an Egg Nog Milk Shake in the spirit of the season- That was excellent- Had a cup of chili ..god awful, seemed like it came right out of a can, just a bowl of muck. Had a triple with cheese, I didn't want french fries- but our waitress sent them along anyway- I had a few, they were greasy, thin, tasteless and what I expected, and why I didn't order them to begin with- I think I was charged for them, but the whole triple with fries was still less than 5 bucks, so who cares? Our waitress was young, and she tried real hard, but I don't think she has a future as a waitress, I asked for the chili, first, before the burger...that was reversed..As it turns out, as mentioned before, the chili was so bad, it didn't matter, only ate half of it. I also had to ask her a 2nd time after the food arrived, for my milk shake. The burger was just average at best. I think for burgers and fries, along the same line- Culver's blows away S n S A table across the way, sent their order back. I don't think I will be rushing back to Steak n Shake for sit down service, they have an excellent drive thru, most locations and the half price milk shake offer 2-5 can't be beat! read more
