I ordered, via DoorDash, the Frisco Melt combo. This comes with fries and a drink. I opted to upgrade to medium onion rings and my drink was a Barq's root beer. The order arrived very quickly and was sealed in a tamper-proof bag which I thought was a nice touch. The Frisco Melt sandwich is a hamburger with cheese placed on sourdough toast. The sandwich was toasted very well and reminded me of a toasted cheese sandwich but with a hamburger. It tasted cheesey but I believe it is more of a cheese sauce rather a cheese slice. There was sauce on it as well that reminded of thousand islands salad dressing. It was a really good sandwich. The onion rings were good and not soggy but I am a bit disappointed in the size. What they gave me was more of a small size not a medium. Overall, I would recommend but I probably would not get the onion rings again. The dinky size portion doesn't justify the up charge. It's a $1.29 up charge and I don't think I got my money's worth. Also, although packed well, there were no condiments included for the onion rings. I give this establishment three stars. read more

In the grand scheme of things, this is a fast food restaurant with some appearances of a "sit down" restaurant. You order your food at one of four computer kiosks, pay with your credit card or cash (they ask for a tip to the restaurant workers without even having providing any service yet), and then you sit and wait for them to bring your food to a counter. I had mixed feelings about the decision that was made to get rid of the servers inside the restaurant, but today everything was perfect. Ate at this location today and I was amaze with their customer service and how clean the restaurant was. The foods arrived fast and hot off the grill. Very friendly staff that actually come and talk to us and other customers. They take initiative to offer help to customers if they have questions. This is the kind of customer service if they want to stay competitive. Customers will come back again as long as the quality of food are good, good customer service and cleanliness. This location has been known for being slow for years. I work for DoorDash and thought I would pickup an order that was on my way home. Not only do I never plan on returning to eat but I will no longer pickup DoorDash orders from this location. Why do people go to this location with a competitor just down the road which is 3-4 time faster? I ended up with two orders via DoorDash for this location. One order was three shakes and an order of fries. The other order was two triple cheeseburgers. Upon arrival I went inside and was told to wait in my car and they would bring it out when ready. Before I walked to my car a worker said, "Most dashers just cancel the order and move on." I don't cancel, that reflects on how DoorDash sees me. And I take pride in a 100% completion rating. During this conversation I noticed no burgers on the grill, two workers standing around and three other workers slowly moving to finish the drive thru order. I wait in my car, engine running because it is a hot rainy day for 30 minutes. I call them and they say they will check on the order. Meanwhile I see many drive thru customers that arrived long after me, leaving. So I go inside to see what is taking long. 9 burgers on the grill and a work says, "Sorry it is taking long, we are busy." I replied, "No you're not. 9 patties on a grill does not make a burger place busy. And no burgers were in the grill when I arrived. Stop the excuses and get the job done." I kid you not the second I stopped talking one worker said one order was ready and 10 seconds later the other order was ready. I waited a total of 40 minutes. This is why, when I talk to people about slow service at restaurants, this Steak and Shake comes to mind. No establishment makes you wait longer then them. And they always claim they are busy. BUT that was not the only thing that happened. I understand COVID is still going on and guest are not eating in the dining room. The front door is still open for walk-ins. So why would you play music that some people may find offensive. While some people may not be offended by the term "nigga" I am. And it came over their radio several times while I was inside. We lived in Centerville about 12 years ago. This was the place to go for fast food, day or night, 24-7. It was clean, service fast, staff pleasant and food was great. We have recently moved back, this place is now filthy, tables are not cleaned, people waiting in line 10-15 minutes waiting, never acknowledged by staff, for a seat at empty tables that have yet to be cleaned. We went in waiting in line behind a party of 3 who, had been waiting for 20 minutes. Anyhow, within 2-3 minutes, 10-12 people walked out without being seated. We foolishly tried again, being that this used to be the place to go. This time we were seated, given cold coffee, no cream bc they are out. Love coming here. The burger shooters are the best. We usually get Lexi as our server and she is outstanding. She knows our girls from Kids Are Tops gymnastics. She was an instructor there. I have always loved me some Steak 'n Shake but my recent visit took it to new heights! It was an early Sunday morning and the place was hopping with the crowd of regular breakfast goers. We were promptly seated and greeted by Garrett, our friendly server. He was amazing! He was literally running between the tables to make sure everyone received amazing service yet was also taking the time to make sure you felt welcomed and were tended to. My difficult order was brought out correctly and fresh, that in itself was no easy feat! Plus I am a huge fan of being able to order lunch and breakfast food at the same time! I love someone who takes pride in their job and that was Garrett to a t! I left there with one of my best breakfast experiences (at a great value, of course!) and a hug! Wow, we used to really enjoy this place. Sadly, the quality of food is just not there. The restaurant is dirty The floors were so slick from grease that I thought my 88-year-old mother was going to fall. We were not the only ones that found the floor to be slick. Customers were telling us to be careful because the floor was so slippery. When our food finally came to the table the french fries were cold, and the burger was lukewarm. Even my mother said something about the food not being good. Our waitress did bring us fresh fries, however it should've been fresh fries from the beginning. I've really never been a fan of Steak n' Shake because their burgers are way too greasy for my like, but they do have great milkshakes and now that Friendly's is out of business, it's nice to be able to get a good milkshake. But, lately, my experiences of visiting them have all been a disappointment. They are always so crowded, no where to stand while waiting for a seat, the floors are always so greasy and slippery that I so afraid of falling and being so embarrassed or getting hurt. But the one thing that I notice in most locations, especially this one is that they are always so dirty looking, especially the bathrooms. The staff is okay but they are so stretched and stressed out looking that it's hard to complain about how slow things are or refills slow. I always say, one person can only do what they can do. Can't expect someone to do the job of three. So, I'll give them a break. But, I do try to avoid coming to this place to eat and think I will continue that. read more

The service was atrocious, food was mediocre, and the staff was downright rude. I personally never eat there because the wait at the drive-thru is so long. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger without the bun. The picture on the coupon showed a double meat burger piled high with mushrooms. She ordered an all-American with onion rings except they wouldn't give her onion rings because her burger only came with fries. So the rings had to go on my order. When we opened our meals at her house, mine was a single with about 7 little bitty mushrooms. After I ate it, I got a terrible stomach ache. This is why I don't eat there and why, even if you gave me a golden ticket, I would never eat there again! read more

Slow service is the hallmark this location. Today after a 20 minute wait in the drive thru line get ready to place my order only to find out the drive thru was closed. No reason given and no apology for the wait. This is the second in two weeks that this has happened. Will start to rethink going here for service. Service has not improved. With the dining area closed you would think the drive thru service would have gotten better. That would be wrong. I pulled up today and was told please wait and study the menu. After about 8 minutes they came back on to take my order. As I was moving to my second item they said please slow down we aren't that fast. When the place first opened it was great. We stopped by yesterday for lunch and we were shocked at how run down this place has become. The parking lot is in disrepair and covered with trash. Steak 'n Shake...yum! Their fries are the thin, crispy kind and always delicious. The shakes are huge, and I particularly like the side-by-side shakes. The shakes seem even better during happy hour when they are half-off. :) Their burgers are alright, but cheap and go well with their fries and shakes. I would give a higher rating, probably a 4 out of 5, but the service I have experienced at Steak 'n Shake was always very slow for all the times I've been there. Even if the restaurant was not even crowded, it still takes a long time to get our orders, and then probably 45-60 minutes to get our food for our table of 4-6. But overall I would recommend Steak 'n Shake, especially their shakes! read more
