The food's just average now. There's nobody there to even talk to you or care about the customer. You have to order from a machine. All the tables are dirty. The floors are dirty.There's no more servers.If you want to drink, you gotta scan your receipt to get a drink.If it works, if you try to get help, there's nobody there to really help you, because they don't like talking to the customers anymore.And most of them don't know English it's sad to see such an American. Absolute garbage! Horrible service, dirty and smelly inside. The health department should take a look. I waited a half hour for my food and never received it and didn't receive a refund after being handed a receipt that says my money was refunded. I have reached out to corporate with no response. Typical fast food option. This place was decent for late night. Liked that the ordering was via a kiosk or app. Got a cheeseburger which was made to order nice and fresh. It was good but what you'd expect from a chain. The location was clean with plenty of parking and the staff were at least fast with my order. Chill vibes overall. Horrible service! I ordered a milkshake at the drive through and said no whip cream or cherry, when the man handed it to me it had whip cream and a cherry on it! I nicely mentioned I asked for no whip cream or cherry( as I'm allergic to the dyes used in maraschino cherries) and the man said I did not say that and slammed the window shut on me. Always love some steak and shake! Nice and greasy burgers, chili is awesome, shakes are solid, and coke is very fizzy! Staff is super kind but now you engage with a kiosk when you walk in and not a person which is different. Dropping a star because the bathroom was pretty gross...toilet was broken, and they were out of soap. Will still be back but maybe hit a different bathroom next time. read more

My Bride and I went to the Polaris Location on Polaris Parkway today May 22/2024. First, they use Kiosks and have no waiters/waitresses. The Kiosk we used, #1, was not working as it should and was very difficult to use. We tried to get help, but every person who worked there needed to speak English. I ordered a single as did my wife. We got the double. I ordered an Onion pickle, lettuce, and tomato and got a pickle and one piece of onion and cheese. I ordered a chocolate shake and got strawberry. The fries were not hot. This place is a sham of the original Shake N Steak. Time to close it up and sell the franchise and open up a good joint, this one is horrendous. Never to return. read more

I know people don't like kiosks, and usually I don't either, but if that what it takes to keep S&S running, I approve. The menu is a bit shorter now, but similar to In-and-Out, keep it simple and good and you'll go far. I thought the quality was the best in a long time, very very good burger and fries. It took some time to figure out the new scanning of receipt to get a fountain drink, but it works. Overall, very clean, although we were definitely off-peak hours. What a let down. I've been coming here for over 20 years. The past 15 or so I've lived out of state and the service has remained at least decent. This last visit made it where I will not likely come back. Typical post covid, no employees. Dining room was DISGUSTING. Every single table was dirty, we had to bus our own table. This is a very good restaurant. The food is fresh, delicious, and looks like the advertisements. The location is clean, fast service, and the condiments/stocked. The burgers, fries and shakes are great. We like the kiosks and that fact there are no waiters/waitresses/servers. It works well. I have no connection to this restaurant but please support them as they do a great job. We went to the location on Polaris Avenue. We actually had a great meal and outstanding service! Our server was attentive and the food very tasty! I had the taco salad, it was huge and only cost $3.99! I felt like I was eating healthy since it didn't had the huge taco bowl like many restaurants do. It had shredded corn tacos on top and that seemed to work. My husband tried the new prime burger and he gave it two thumbs up! The French fried were thin and tasty. Stopped in whole driving from Pa to Texas. Was a little concerned based on past reviews, but found the food to be very good. I would give it 5 starts for a fast food joint, but don't care for the self serve kiosks. The chocolate peanut butter shake, almost earned it's own 5 stars. I went through the drive thru around 3pm on Tuesday May 19, 2020. The worker took my special order with ease. I like how they are wearing masks and gloves. I have been to Steak and Shakes many times before. Sometimes they take a little longer than other fast restaurants, but the burgers and milkshakes are FRESH. In general it seems that restaurants are short staffed. I read some negative reviews about wait times at this locations. I've always liked Steak 'n Shake's food, but since my family is now on a keto diet, I appreciate them in a different way. While we cannot have their delicious shakes or tasty sides, like fries or baked beans, we can still have their burgers (no bun, of course). It's pretty simple to order, just ask for no bun and they put it in a bowl for you. I did learn "the hard way" that you have to specify no fries if you don't want them. It was indeed a sad experience to have to throw them away that first time. :( Overall, I would say it's pretty easy to get a tasty, low-carb meal here if you are ok with just a bunless sandwich, so this has become one of our go-to chains when we are on the road. I did deduct two stars because, although they do have a nutrition menu online, it only lists each whole item (e.g., an entire sandwich), so there is no simple way to figure out how much each item is or what the ingredients are. In other words, I have to guess or estimate how much I need to deduct when I get a burger without a bun. Deducting stars for this may seem a little harsh, but there are so many people who are on special eating plans, it's time for restaurants to step up their game a bit where their nutrition information is concerned. I would give this place zero stars if I could! DO NOT EAT HERE! First, we waited at the door to be seated for about 10 minutes with no one acknowledging we were there. While we were standing there, I watched the cook touch RAW MEAT with his BARE HANDS, no gloves, and continue to cook touching all the utensils. He then made a sandwich without even washing his hands! After her touched all the raw meat and everything else!! So gross. Then when we were finally seated we sat there again for 15+ minutes without ANYONE coming to our table. We left and grabbed dinner elsewhere. If you want to eat without getting ecoli or having to wait 45 minutes before someone acknowledged you, then I'd go somewhere else.
