Can I give 6 stars? I had to travel 45 minutes to nearest Steak n Shake! We have one 1/2 mile from here and it has been closed since ce 2020. Definitely needs to reopen! This restaurant was immaculate. A new concept with kiosks to order. Once we figured it out it was good! A nice couple helped me with the soft drink QR code. The place looks just like I remember and smelled wonderful. I was so happy to finally try the tallow fries. Very good! No bitter aftertaste like fries everywhere else. I love the light golden color and the crispy fries! I ordered the original burger and it is amazing! How nice to have a fresh onion to eat rather than chopped rehydrated bits! Nice big slices of pickle so a bit in every bite! Love the super 5in burgers. So enjoyable rather than a thick patty. There was also a milkshake at our table and he said it was thick and delicious! steak 'n Shake has been around for several decades and is a Youngstown staple. My mother and I grabbed dinner at steak 'n Shake and I was not disappointed. They're tiny crispy french fries are one of my favorites but today I opted into ordering the melt ad grilled and crispy onions. The service was almost instantaneous and we really enjoyed the diner atmosphere. my mother ordered a chili cheese fries which is not photographed here but would highly recommend. read more

This experience corrected my opinion of Steak 'n Shake. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They were also very accommodating to the limitations of the ordering kiosk. They were attentive. Food was correct and fresh. Fries could have been hotter (I like them molten hot fresh out of the fryer, personally.) but we're still delicious. The fries taste so much better and have a better texture in tallow. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the staff was visibly keeping it this way. I applied for a job with them and was called and had an over the phone interview. The guy doing the interview had no personality at all the interview was going decent right before the interview was abruptly ended he said "we require professionalism in appearance which means natural color hair and absolutely no piercings or tattoos do you check these boxes" I said I have natural hair but I also have piercings and tattoos he says "this interview is over we will be going in another direction good day" and hung up on me. I honestly feel like I was discriminated without being met in person. It needs to be looked into. My piercings and tattoos have nothing to do with my work ethic and shouldn't hinder me receiving employment. read more

We visited here on a day trip in from Weirton, WV. Our S&S closed years ago in the Pittsburgh area and our kids had never gotten to try it, so we stopped in for lunch this day. Food is delicious, fresh and hot. The decor was typical Steak and Shake, not a lot of people there so it was kind of quiet for my little family to have lunch. There are no actual people taking orders or collecting money, it's all done by kiosk. This is fine because it seems that's where the world is going these days, but we were prompted to provide a tip at the end of placing our electronic order. I don't really understand this because at this point we hadn't even seen a living breathing human in the restaurant. I mean, we aren't tipping a machine, and we haven't even had ANY service yet, so I'm not sure why it asks for a tip right out the gate? The drink station was interesting...We were given a slip with a QR code with our receipt, in order to fill a drink at the fountains you have to scan your QR code. (Glad there was a human to actually explain this process...oh wait!) The drink fountains literally lock down as soon as you stop pouring and you have to scan to use it again. Which again, I don't understand what the purpose of this is, because the cups are right there, free to grab by anyone. If someone wanted to "steal a drink" they could easily pay for one drink and fill 50 cups by just scanning the QR code over and over. It just seemed a bit overkill, especially as a mom trying to fill my drink, as well as drinks for my two young children. Having to juggle cups and barcodes and kids is not my kind of fun. The tables were not really wiped off, and most of them were greasy or had crumbs on the top. I'd like to say the staff was friendly, but the only people we saw there was the person who sat our food on the small area by the drink station and shouted our name before running back into the kitchen. I guess we really didn't see him/her, just heard them shout out name. Oh, and there was a guy who handed my kids a paper hat after we had placed our order at the kiosk. We didn't see him again after that and we don't really know where he even came from, just appeared there, then was gone that quick. Maybe he was who we were supposed to be tipping?? I'm giving three stars because the food is good, certainly not for the lack of human service or cleanliness...or for the price for that matter, $64 for two adults and two children to have a meal with a drink each. I will not be returning to this restaurant again. Steak and shake used to be a fun place to go to get some bangin milkshakes and a burger, not any longer. We went here one day and mind you there was ONE other table in the whole restaurant that had people, so they were not busy. First off, they no longer have any servers. You had to order through a computer when you walk in which is fine but just all feels rushed. The computer asked to leave a tip.. I'm sorry, for who? I'm the one placing my order, carrying it around, refilling drinks and cleaning it up. I didn't order a drink because we got milkshakes but I asked for a cup so I can have some water, and I was given a cup that would look small in a toddlers hand. So I'd have to refill it over and over again. Would liked to have had lemons but didn't want to bother the people behind the counter because they didn't seem to care. As far as the food, complete disappointment. We get to our seats and realized my fiancés milkshake was incorrect. I ordered cheese fries and trust me, I love cheese as much as the next. But these fries were drenched with cheese. So to have their thin fries swimming in cheese was very unappetizing. The biggest fail was the burger. I got a burger that on the menu screen included a creamy, garlic butter sauce on the burger. Know where my not so creamy sauce was? On the top bun. The outside of it. The outside of my top bun was drenched in a liquid butter-garlic sauce. I have never in my life seen the outside of a bun coated with a sauce. Every time I picked up the burger my fingers were covered with butter and the spices they used. It was beyond irritating. $30 for a lunch we didn't enjoy. At all. We will not be returning. At the Boardman, Ohio location the burger and fries weren't hot, and the double-burger was barely the size of a single anywhere else. I think I recently had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at this establishment. Honestly, I won't even call this place a restaurant, because it just does not fit the bill. We arrived at Steak-N-Shake at around 11 p.m. on the 4th of July. The place was relatively empty when we got there, maybe three or four other tables were seated. I was baffled by the menu. EVERYTHING IS $3.99. The meals, the milkshakes, the whole shabang. I thought I had died and gone to fatty fast-food heaven. Be careful what you wish for...So while I was debating between a heart attack via milkshake or bacon cheese fries, I began to notice that we had been sitting there for a while...maybe 10+ minutes and the waitress had not come over once. After about 15 minutes, she finally pops over and says something to the nature of "I'll be right with you"...only she's not right with us. It takes her at least another 10-15 minutes to come over and take our order, at which point she is completely frazzled, explaining that she's new (the week prior had been her first). Understandable. Whatevs. I just want my milkshake. So we wait, and wait...and Rusty grows some grey hairs, I finish filing my taxes for next year...and we still don't have our drinks! Rus' sister then approaches the "manager" who states that he'll be right over with our drinks. He apologizes and explains that the restaurant had been empty all day and they weren't quite ready for this "rush". Okay, whatever. I just want my milkshake. Ten more minutes go by, still nothing. At this point, Rus' unc and sis are looking about the restaurant noticing that a party that arrived after us has already received their food and drinks...Not good. But really, who cares, as long as I get my milkshake! She finally brings it out (hopefully she didn't spit in it, please God). We all get our food and drinks...Except for Rus' uncle who is still waiting on cheese fries. He gets them. They look disgusting. Everything looks pretty gross. I'm thankful (for once) that I didn't order any food...I just wanted a milkshake people! Rus' fam is still pissed about the long wait. They ask to speak with the manager. Waitress explains that the manager is too busy. Also explains that our meal is comped and we can just leave....That didn't go over very well. They keep demanding for the manager. She then breaks out crying, bawling...during her second week at probably what is her first job. I'm trying to calm the girl down, meanwhile the manager still won't come out. I then get out of there. I can't handle these kind of situations, crying and yelling and horrible managers, so I go outside. However, I think Rus' fam proceed to find the manager and tell his a$$ off. At the end of the day, our meal was comped and I got my freakin' milkshake dammmit. Geez. I guess for $3.99, that $hit was too good to be true. read more

No servers, no hostess to seat you, a kiosk to order and get your own food, and then they ask for a tip on top of that. Check for every item you order if ordering online or Drive-Thru. I've online ordered from here multiple times and can't tell you how many times items are missing or messed up. Charged for and missing Chicken Fingers, Burger has EVERYTHING on it and I asked only lettuce and cheese. The receipt shows that it was entered correctly but I guess no one looked at the ticket closely. Wasn't upset until the 3rd time something like this has happened. read more

When I called the store, I was talked to like I was stupid and was told there isn't a driver to deliver my food. This was after my God has been sitting on their counter for an hour. I t has been two days, I called this morning to hopefully have this situation taken care of by the GM. Kiosks are EXTREMELY slow to order on, not set up well. Our order number was 120. It was a big order so understandably 121 and 122 were finished first. Our food came out but they never called the order so it would have just set there if I weren't paying attention. Additionally, our milkshakes did not come out with the food, and we were told the would be ready soon. I watched no fewer than 20 milkshakes be given out coming from orders even in the 130s. My entire family finished their food with no milkshakes. Towards the end of the meal I asked where the milkshakes were, the lady said they were being made. After we finished and the milkshakes were still not EVEN Started, I asked for a refund and the person behind the counter refused. It took going full blown asshole to get anybody to make the milkshakes for us, which we didn't even want anymore because we were all done eating. Also, there was a doordasher who stood and waited over half an hour waiting on a late pickup order. As a doordasher I know how much this completely screws the dasher over because of a restaurants lack of professionalism. This was my first time having steak 'n shake, since i'm from the west coast) and i was overwhelmed with how great it was! I originally ordered through the postmates app and had an estimated time of about 30 min. Long story short our postmates driver took longer than expected and blamed it on the merchant. I called this location and they said they had our food ready to go and it's been sitting waiting for pickup. We cancelled our order through postmates and immediately went to pick it up. When I got there I spoke with Thomas, and he was more than willing to allow us to pay there and even offered to make us some fresh fries and onion rings! After I payed he not only gave us fresh sides but remade a milkshake with no charge because our original one was sitting there for who knows how long. The place was busy as usual, the manager was a little short tempered, the help running around at a frenetic pace. i could put up with all that, but the behavior of the waitress, especially towards my grandson, was unforgivable. Took kids out for dinner, and this was their pick. Even though it was packed, the wait wasn't too bad. The food came out quickly. It was alright, greasy, as would be expected. What I didn't like was the fact that it was dirty inside! The outside of the ketchup bottle was sticky, your shoes stuck to sticky floor, and I sat at my table for about 30 minutes looking at the dirty tables they never cleared off all around me the whole time.
