Service was outstanding. We hardly put the car in park and the young lady was there to assist in taking our order. The food came out in an adequate amount of time. The three hamburgers that we ordered all had stale buns and the burgers were lukewarm. The "loaded" fries had a couple of chicken nuggets on it and then a little bit of blue cheese sprinkles, and some hot sauce, and they were also mushy. The zucchini fries seem to be the center cut the zucchini wrapped in a breading and fried, and description, but not very tasty. The cheesecake tortilla roll with strawberries was....Interesting. It tasted like warmed up cream cheese wrapped up in a tortilla and then totally encompassed with cinnamon sugar. The strawberry topping which was in a container on the side was absolutely delicious and the best part of the whole meal. Will not run back. read more

We visited Swenson's fir our first time a couple of nights ago and ordered a triple cheeseburger, a double cheeseburger, fries and Potato Teasers. This is a restaurant where you pull into a parking space and a car hop server comes out to take your order at your car. I ordered my double cheeseburger with Mayo and bbq sauce and the two combined was way too sweet fir me. The potato teasers were really really good and had cheese and minced jalapeño inside. I'd go back just for these. We also shared a coffee shake which was good. The staff was nice and friendly and service was quick. read more

Swenson's Drive-In--the place that serves food with big promise and... well, let's just say a lot of questionable execution. You've probably heard of it or driven by it and thought, "Hey, let's check this place out," and maybe you should. Maybe. Let's dive into the Sloppy Joe first. Now, I don't know what happened here, but I'm pretty sure they just threw a can of chili into a bun and called it a day. It was a pile of mush--like, I was just waiting for a spoon to eat it with. It was like someone took all the joy of a Sloppy Joe and replaced it with... well, mush. There was no structure, no flavor, just a sad, squishy experience. You ever eat something and wonder, "What did I just put in my mouth?" That's how I felt after a bite of this "Sloppy Joe." But wait--there's hope. The fried bologna, though? Now that's the real deal. This crispy, salty, indulgent slice of heaven is the only thing that's really worth your time. Honestly, it could've been the most magical fried bologna in the history of fried bologna, and I'm pretty sure I'd eat it every day if I didn't think I'd be dead by 40. It's greasy in the best way, crispy where it should be, and just downright satisfying. If you go to Swenson's and don't try the fried bologna, well, you're doing it wrong. Now, let's talk about the fries. Oh boy. They were... okay, I guess? But seriously, they were just lackluster. I was expecting crispy, golden perfection, but what I got was a sad pile of potatoes that seemed like they just wanted to leave the party. Some were too soggy, others too dry. It was like a french fry existential crisis. Where are you supposed to dip them? What is their purpose? What have they become? (Okay, maybe I'm overthinking it, but you get the point.) Fried zucchini? Uh, yeah, I think they fried it a little too much. Imagine the zucchini went in fresh, but came out with an existential crisis of its own. It was like they just dipped it in batter, threw it in the fryer, and said, "Go forth, crispy little zucchinis, and become something else entirely." They were way too fried--like, I was chewing through a fried shell instead of enjoying the zucchini inside. If I wanted to eat something that looked like it had been deep-fried in regret, I'd just go for some of those fries. The real MVP of this place? The crushed ice. I'm serious, you guys. It's like hospital ice. You know the ice that's perfectly soft and chewable? It's the kind of ice you want to eat when you're too lazy to get actual food. This ice is so good it might just be the best thing at Swenson's, and I'm not even mad about it. If they offered a cup of just crushed ice with a side of fried bologna, I'd be in heaven. So, yeah, Swenson's Drive-In--hit or miss. If you're craving fried bologna or a cup of crushed ice, you're golden. If you're after a well-executed Sloppy Joe or some truly stellar fries, maybe keep your expectations in check. It's like they went for the "quirky dive" vibe but ended up with a slightly underwhelming drive-in experience. Swensons is a pretty cool drive in for some good grub. You put ur headlights on when your ready for service. A staff worker runs to your car to take your order and brings it out when it's ready. Food is made to order. And they run back to you whenever your lights are on. Mo was our waiter; he was nice and gave some good suggestions. He suggested for milkshakes combing blueberry and lemon, and he was absolutely right ... it was amazing! Tasted like a nice piece of cheesecake without the heaviness. Order a cheeseburger with everything on it. Everything is mustard, pickles and onions. And some fries. Burger is nice and hot and delicious and the bun is good and sweet; they toast the buns; which had some crunchy texture to your sandwich. All in all it's a good place to stop when in Ohio ! The only thing I wish they would of written down was the total on the board when they handed you the food. Makes it quicker and easier on both the customer and the staff. read more

This review is based off service and trying one burger. I went to the Boardman location on a ridiculously cold night and was greeted with a smile by a very friendly, very bundled up young lady who promptly came to my car. I wanted to bring a burger home to my son as he always wanted to try this place. I ordered a Galley Boy burger for the both of us. The service was polite and prompt and in no time I had my order and away I went. I drove almost an hour home with the burgers. When I came home I opened the bag to find two nearly wrapped burger held closed with a large toothpick and olive. Obviously the burger was cold, but 25 seconds in the microwave made it perfect. The burger was unique. I could taste the bbq sauce and the meat had a somewhat sweet flavor. I enjoyed it and would really like to try it fresh sometime. read more

I fail to see the advantage a drive-in has over a drive-thru, but here we are. A gimmick is a gimmick, and the drive-in concept is Swenson's gimmick. You pull in and waitstaff runs out in the cold to take your order. Menu is bolted to the side of the building. They bring your food out on a metal tray/contraption that I believe is supposed to attach to some part of your car (see photo) but I couldn't figure it out. While out and about we decided to stop by and try out Swenson's. I had heard great things about them when they were located in Akron but had never tried it before. It's a cute drive up fast food restaurant with the menu on the side of the building. Staff was quick to take our order and we didn't have much of a wait, which was nice. My wife and I stopped in to get a quick dinner. It's a drive-In restaurant, so you park your car and view the menu in the side of the building. When you're ready to order, just turn on your headlights, and a server will come to find out what you would like to eat. I ordered a quarter pound hamburger, which you can customize. I had them put on lettuce, tomato, pickles and the Galley Boy sauces. My wife ordered the quarter pound fried bologna sandwich with sautéed onions and mustard. For a side, we ordered fried mushrooms. I thought my hamburger was pretty good, my wife loved her sandwich, and we each enjoyed the mushrooms which we dipped in ranch dressing. Great for a quick bite. You just drive up, park, menu is on the side of the building, however, they offer a paper menu. We decided on the paper menu. When you're ready to place the order, you flip your headlights, at that point, a server will return and take your order. They have good shakes and chicken nuggets. Husband ordered a couple hamburgers, they were a little smaller than he expected but he said they were good. The menu selection wasn't huge, however, there's a fair amount to still choose from. Service was great and I noticed the cleanliness and friendliness of the employees, a definite plus. The restaurant location was just minutes from our hotel, another plus. Growing up in the Akron area, I am naturally a Swenson's fan. I was very happy to see they opened one in the Boardman area which is closer to where we live now. We stopped by last night for dinner on our way home from the Pittsburgh airport. Julia was our waitress. She was friendly and provided fast service.
