Salad bar was great!! We had the crab cake dinner and a steak dinner. Crab cakes were mostly breading and came with tarter sauce for dipping, they tasted like a fish stick. The Steak Inn is a nice place to dine. They offer steak, chicken, catfish and some seafood. A salad bar is included with each meal, and is actually a nice salad bar. The garlic "toasties" at the salad bar are very good. A small loaf of bread is brought to the table with the entrees for everyone to share. As one of only a very few places to eat in Shell Knob, this is a nice restaurant. read more

Valentines Day: A very busy day for a steak house. So we made reservations and when we showed up we had to wait 5 minutes before the hostess showed. Then we had to wait another 20 past our reservation to be seated. A group of 6 and had to sit at a table for 4. We had kids so it would work. We placed our order promptly to speed things up. We watched other patrons that came in after we did, get their food. We finally saw the waitress and she said a big group had their order ahead of us. We showed the other people eating their meals and she shrugged. Over an hour passed before we got our food. All of the steaks were over cooked. The manager said "sorry you feel that way " and walked off. We were still charged 80% of our bill, even though we did not eat the steaks. I will never go back. They don't care about the customers. read more

Good service and atmosphere but the prices for the steaks were much higher than what was listed on the menu. When asked about the discrepancy we were told that they had put a statement on the specials board. It was not easy to see or read. My average fillet was $45. Talk about price gouging. read more

Very disappointed in the service. Starting with hostess (owner I think?) being very "short" and not very friendly except if she knew you as a regular. Ok we aren't "regulars " but we've been here multiple times over the last several years. Then our waitress couldn't be bothered to even wait on us, never did even find out her name because we only saw her when she was waiting other tables. They've always had fairly good food but it's not even the busy season yet. Not sure when/if we'll be back. Unfortunate because there's not many other places to go. Took my wife there for her birthday. Always heard it was the place to go if you want a good steak. This was our first visit. We both give it a 7/10. Here are our pros and cons. Pros: Nice, cozy decor. Darker wood interior. Steak was very good. Not the best I've ever had but cooked right and tasty. Salad bar was well appointed and fresh...pretty good. One trip included with all dinners. Staff was very nice...good service. Beer was cold and came in a frosty mug. We got a shrimp cocktail which was very good. They serve other seafood dishes (scallops, walleye, shrimp, etc) and chicken dishes. All entrees included one trip salad bar, choice of rice pilaf, fries and bread. Cons: bread was plan white bread. Blah. Cannot order a separate salad of any kind. No veggies choices or dessert menu. My wife got rice pilaf and said it was rice-a-roni. Beer choice was very limited if you want something other than the standard bud, bud light, Miller light, etc. Only had Sam Adams and Heineken. Wine choices even worse. Only had Woodbridge and Barefoot. Overall. If you want a decent steak (I assume their other entrees are equally as good) and salad bar, this might be worth the trip. I wouldn't expect much more. We had an 8 oz filet, 12 oz boneless ribeye, baked potato, rice pilaf, shrimp cocktail, salad bar, bread, 3 Sam Adams for $103. A little over priced for what we got IMO. We drove 45 minutes. Not sure how often I'd make the drive for what we got. read more

The food was good but they seemed to cut corners at every turn to save a buck. They charge resort prices but fail to give a resort experience. They do not take reservation when they as a restaurant really need to but they again are trying to cut corners and in my opinion are lazy. They getaway with it because they are one of the few steak houses in the area. They clearly let you know only one trip to the salad bar, Really? I don't think they will lose money on folks making a second trip. One of the sides is a plain baked potato, they could at least ask you how you want it dressed. It would not take them that much extra. Again cutting corners. Wait staff was a bit rude or at a minimum not helpful. Will not be returning. read more

We were from out of town and stumbled upon this place for dinner. Waitress was awesome, and the steak was amazing. Great for a good price, and the building itself was super cute. You also get one trip to the salad bar. We will be returning :) read more

The salad bar is physically too small, resulting in a long line for wet bagged greens and decidedly average extras. The steaks were cooked as ordered but not outstanding. Fried shrimp were good. Small loaf of bread served with entrees was cold and stale tasting. I guess when you're the only game in town you don't need to try any harder. read more

Very happy they have been open for decades but it was horrible food and service. Went with a friend last night and we both got a steak with shrimp cocktail and the salad bar. Salad bar was the best part of my meal. Steak was aweful. Overcooked and so dry I could barely eat it. Shrimp cocktail was an embarrassment. Server auctioned off our food and served me first before my girlfriend. I added the stuffed shrimp to my entree and they were horrible. Still tipped 30% because I felt sorry for the server. She had absolutely no idea how to properly serve a table. read more

If your always looking for that out of the way hidden gem like I am then you will be very happy with this place. We stay at Big Cedar several times a year and just discovered this place, it's well worth the 35 minutes or so drive and the ambiance and setting alone are worth the trip. The steaks we had were quality well cooked and good tasting. Shrimp was good also but the salad really was as good as the reviews say, garden fresh ! Nothing like you see at those other places. We were seated immediately upon arrival in a very comfy warm private booth and our server was perfect, she didn't try to drown us with refills nor did she repeatedly stop to ask if things were ok, she obviously understands the art of waitressing and that's why I tip accordingly. Honestly a great value and quality in a legitimate nostalgic environment that my wife loved. I'm sure it will be our secrete getaway place every time we're down at the lake from now on. read more

I had the grilled shrimp and it was very good for being in the middle of the Ozarks. The service is average and I waited a long time for my meal but this is a busy joint. The scenery was the greatest for a steak house. Coming into the building was quick to be seated. There was problems with our waitress as in; she only came by a total of 4 times including taking our order and asking for drinks. She never gave refills. My dads steak and my steak got mixed up so we had to switch them before eating. The food was good but not great. This is a true steak house that knows what they are doing. The service is friendly and fast. The salad bar is amazing with a good selection and really good toast. We had mixed feelings based on other reviews, but I am very glad we went. The steak was very good, the salad bar was wonderful. They even made a very nice Woodford Reserve Manhattan and a good Grey Goose Cosmo for the wife. I would have given 5 stars except for the crying babies and the inconsiderate parents.
