NY Subs & Grill - Blt with avocado!! Absolutely delicious

YES!!!!! Finally,…read moreafter nearly 10 years living back in Toledo, this place has opened! Real NYC-style chicken and rice. If you ever lived in NYC you know what I'm talking about. This is the real deal. The guy who runs it used to run a deli in Brooklyn. Toledo has plenty of good Lebanese shawarma platters, but this is a different category. Nothing else scratches the itch. They upped their price to about $15, but when they did that they increased the portion size and included a drink and a bag of chips for free, so I think it's still a pretty good deal. Often they'll mix in some fries with the platter, too. As well as lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions and peppers. And they have Vernors, which you can't usually get at NYC halal trucks. So it's almost like NYC-Detroit fusion, the best of both worlds LOL! I haven't tried the rest of their menu much. I tried a lemon chicken sandwich once, and it was not on par with the ones that I've from the better delis in Harlem and The Bronx. It was kind of soggy and salty. I might try more of the subs at some point, but I really think of this as a one dish place for now, in spite of their long menu. I think it's hard to express just how happy I am to have this place a short drive from me. The cost to obtain one of my favorite foods from my home in Toledo went down from about $500 and several hours of travel (the price of a round-trip flight to LaGuardia plus one night in a hotel in Queens) down to about $15 and a 10 minute drive.

Solid 4 stars. The…read moreother reviews are quite interesting...I suspect that several are fake. Yeah, and I'd pay little attention to the (unintentionally funny) most recent 1 star reviews. "Dog shit...fitting for Toledo?" Fitting for Toledo? Fitting for Toledo??Dude...fuck you and your single Mickey Mouse review consisting of 1 short paragraph. And, fuck your GF who wrote the other horse shit review on the same day. Alrighty then... One of other one star reviews focuses on rude service. The guy that wrote it? 7 out of his 8 reviews are 1 star...all based on poor service. Hey, I get it though. Could be a legit gripe. But, I didn't see any of that. For us, the service was accurate, very fast and very friendly. One caveat...we got there just before a flood of customers. If we'd gotten there 20 minutes later, I suspect we'd have had to wait. Atmosphere. Clean, comfortable. Yeah, the decorations, especially the wall decorations are, uh, predictable but eclectic. Farmhouse style signs, signed pics of athletes, Toledo street scenes from across the decades, UT stuff, etc. but like I said, clean and comfortable. The food rates a solid 4 stars. This rating also takes into account the massive menu. Lots of options. The smothered and covered hash browns were great. My son enjoyed the country fried steak, and said that it stacks up favorably to others in town. His eggs needed pepper and salt. My Denver omelet? Excellent. The coffee did NOT taste like dishwater...it tasted like diner coffee. Would I come here for coffee only? Nope. Location: On Bancroft near the 7/11. Very convenient for hung over UT students. This place has been a black hole for diners ever since Rick moved out to Monroe street. Hopefully Steven's Skillet will be around for a while. SOLID 4 STARS!

If I could give 10 stars I would. The value and quality are insane. Best diner I've ever been to by…read morefar. This freaking meal was $13! I'd probably pay double for this.
