We were here tonight for a birthday celebration. We were 10 minutes early and instead of showing us to our table we were forced to wait in the bar for 10 min. Very uncomfortable and not necessary. Our reservation was very early (5:15) so there was plenty of room in the restaurant. We felt like we were a bother instead of welcomed. Then we had asked for a specific table in our reservation many weeks in advance and were told when we arrived that the table we asked for was reserved for someone else. Then We were seated in a very busy entry way which was noisy and cramped. The person that brought the bread to our table literally threw the bread down and raced away. We were shocked. In the past we experienced beautiful service and felt very catered to by the servers. Tonight we felt rushed and ignored. The food was delicious. Our server did a nice job. The appetizers and bread we asked to take home were not in our bag when we arrived home so another disappointment. It was a busy night but no more than our past visits so something has clearly changed in the service and attention to detail. What was supposed to be to have been a birthday celebration was fraught with poor service to our party. This has always been our favorite place to celebrate special occasions but I'm not sure the level of attention to excellence is being maintained. read more

Came here on a Monday night to celebrate my birthday & it was the best decision I've ever made! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful.. Everything I ordered was cooked to PERFECTION! Our kind server Matthew was very knowledgeable on the menu, had a great personality, & made my birthday absolutely magical.. Steak 48 has really upped their game. I must say we had a memorable dinner last night. I requested a booth and we had the best one in the restaurant, not to mention our server Stacy, a pure delight, super attentive with a great Old School Martini charm. Very few places in SD do you get your Martini Shaken and served next to you. Meal was Excellent, we all had Steaks, Appetizers just as great and not to mention the sides (Creme Brulee Corn and Hasselback Potatoes) and then the Vanilla Cake WOW. everything was excellent. We came here for the first time for Mother's Day and had a great experience. Service was superb and wait staff were very knowledgeable about all of their entrees. We ordered the chicken fried lobster tails, baked mac & cheese, mushrooms, mashed potatoes, & steaks all around. The mushrooms were a little salty but everything else was delicious and cooked perfectly to everyone's tastes. We had our 7 and 10 year olds with us and I loved that they offered an option to nicely slice up their steaks right before bringing it out. Both my wife and I knew going in that Steak 48 Del Mar would be expensive - and it was - but the bill did NOT detract at all from our completely enjoyable experience at the restaurant. Sat in back bar for a quiet dinner.., normally love this place and when I sat down they had the air conditioning going full bore and they said they would adjust it and I froze through my appetizer and left instead of having dinner because it was not enjoyable sitting there being cold and wishing I had a blanket... As we've watched the construction of the building over the past few years, we have been eagerly anticipating the opening of Steak 48 Del Mar, and having had the pleasure of dining there this past Sunday evening, I can say without reservation that it was worth the wait!! Steak 48 really is a cut above. We've dined at Michelin-starred and top-rated restaurants the world over, and Steak 48 rivals the best of those. And while the word "experience" is overused, I can't think of a better way to describe our evening there -- it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. First off, I noted on our Open Table reservation that we would be celebrating my husband's birthday and requested a quiet booth. Mid-Sunday morning, I received a call from Ann at the restaurant asking for my husband's name (in order to personalize the celebration). Additionally, I asked for an earlier table, which Ann graciously accommodated. She also mentioned that she hoped we could see how much care had been taken in crafting the interior of the restaurant and wished us a lovely evening. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we could see what Ann meant -- we felt transported to a glamorous, lively, cosmopolitan space. In no way did it feel like a building on the edge of a shopping mall parking lot! Our table was the best in the house: a private, glass-encased dining suite with unobstructed views of the enormous kitchen. We were in the middle of all the action but still able to carry on a conversation, something that is increasingly impossible in so many other restaurants. Obvious thought had been given not only to acoustics but also to lighting; not only could we hear one another but we could also see each other, the wait staff, our menus, AND we were bathed in flattering light. A nice touch: my husband was presented with a lovely, handwritten note from the general manager, Stacey Urbin, thanking us for choosing Steak 48 for his birthday celebration. What really made our evening, though, was Philip and his team. They made us feel like honored guests. They were attentive without being intrusive, gracious, warm and welcoming. They are top-notch professionals who take obvious pride in being part of an outstanding enterprise. Although I suspect that everything on the extensive menu is fantastic, Philip's wonderful recommendations made our selections much easier, and every dish was truly a marvel. Ordinarly, I am suspicious when a menu is so large, but there was not a single miss that evening. The signature bread = amazing. The crispy shrimp = to die for. The filet mignon = out of this world. The Hasselback potatoes = category defying. Crispy truffle fries = alone worth the price of admission. Caesar salad = delicious. Brussel sprouts = totally yum. King crab = unbelievable. The beignet tree = the crowning glory to an unforgettable meal. I can't thank Philip and the whole team at Steak 48 enough for making my husband's birthday totally epic. My Huband and I went for our 10 year anniversary and it was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had!

San Diego isn't known for great steak houses but this might put it on t he map. The parking was bit inconvenient but that's because it's just that popular. Definitely use the valet. Ambience was very modern, clean, and welcoming. We went with a group of workers and they accommodated our party of 9. Food and service were stellar. Appetizers must would be there lobster roll and the calamari. The lobster roll was already perfectly buttery, great toasted roll and lobster was fresh and tasty. The calamari had a great batter. Their oysters too were top notch! We also did the bacon and pork belly, good but go with those seafood apps. I did the ibérico pork chop cooked medium and they were perfect. Toms of meat, great flavor. The rest of our group did filets, strips and ribeyes. The specials sounded awesome too. For side we all shared hasselbeck potato's, loaded baked, creamed corn, and mushrooms. The hasselbecks were my favorite. Crispy edges and soft interior. The group loved the desserts as well. Our server Stephanie handled our entire table with a few helpers. She got all our orders perfect, kept our drinks coming, and paid close attention to her entire section. The presentation is great too, the chefs brought out each dish. The plates are sizzling hot. Everything else about the restaurant was top tier. Walking to and from the rest rooms the other servers and staff and so courteous. I would definitely recommend this and can't wait to go back. This is right up there with any other top steak house in the country, and am happy to have it in my backyard in north county. read more

Over the top meat centric restaurant with some strange sides. If you love red meat and high priced cocktails paid by your boss this is the place. Strangest side I ever had was sweet mashed potato which could easily double as a dessert. Not something that I enjoy w my entree. Bread was baked in pan oozing w grease. Finally a great steak house in CV area. I find that so far steaks (filet) were spot on - great cuts, cooked to perfection. Their wedge salad is my favorite appetizer (love the specially cooled silverware). Bartenders are top notch, usually one martini does the trick for me. My experience was perfect every single visit. Service was among the best I've ever had. Steaks, wines and cocktails were all ho hum. I've had far better versions of everything we tried on the menu at equal or better pricing elsewhere. The lone exception to this was the truffle fries which really are unique in the way they're cut, which lends an amazing texture and flavor. It was OK but nothing more than that. Our medium rare dry aged steak was actually pretty dry and that was a bummer. I'd like the au gratin potatoes, but my husband did not. We had a really nice dinner here last night. The service was five stars. The menu was wonderful, and it felt like a great steak house. I enjoyed the ginger peach cocktail, and shared the beet salad, filet mignon, NY strip steak with a blue cheese crust, asparagus with parmesan (I asked for this to be cooked in olive oil since I'm avoiding seed oils), the loaded baked potato, and the key lime dessert. My boyfriend was celebrating his birthday and they provided an extra level of service for him. The ambiance is a dimly light, loud restaurant. Some people had to use their flashlights to see the menu. I particularly didn't like the volume or soundtrack of the music playing (way too loud). They do have lots of allergy-friendly and gluten free options on the menu. read more

We were celebrating a couple birthdays in our party of four, and the GM went the extra mile with handwritten cards and dessert was on the house. Everything was executed with thoughtfulness, but ultimately the food left a lot to be desired--nothing stood out. The complimentary bread was inedible, tasted exactly like canned crescent rolls. The 45-day bone-in ribeye, cooked to perfection but somehow lacked flavor. The filets were also cooked exactly to our preferences, but didn't impress. It was obvious that the quality of beef was subpar for a steakhouse like this. The sauces and sides were average at best--creamed spinach, whipped potatoes, brussel sprouts, & peppercorn sauce. After reading all the rave reviews and buzz around it, I really wanted to love this place. But for the price paid, I probably would not return nor recommend to others. read more
