Pure and simple...steady Eddy is a local spot with a casual hangout vibe. You go there to kickback, take a deep breath, have a drink and eat great wings and comfort food. It's a two level building with the restaurant and bar on the top level and a "man-cave" space downstairs. The space is intimate and you can watch them cook on the grill. Good specials on Monday with BOGO on wings. The waitress is super friendly and you will hear plenty of the "sweetie" and "Hon" terms of southern hospitality. This is a small hole in the wall bar, that offers some comfort food. My daughter and I stopped for lunch a few weeks ago while we was visiting the Matthew's, NC area. Upon arriving we noticed that they have a private parking lot and didn't seem to be very busy. As we entered, it's a small place and you can seat yourself. Yup! I'm back here. Although I am one for consistency and it usually bothers me when there is constant turnover, I must say I am never disappointed when it comes to this place and satisfying my crave to disregard slim hips! The food here is just good, fun, greasy diner type delicious. Crispiest onion rings I have ever had. They have gone up on the prices a bit (but who hasn't). They have this cool food truck style kitchen right there at the bar. Small space, so live music is usually just a solo artist. Downstairs is a cozy den type setting. Nice for sipping wine or bourbon, while chatting up with close friends. Outside patio is nice, with tall top tables and backyard is mostly used for corn hole competitions. Steady Eddy's is such a hidden gem in the town of Matthews! My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday midday after a morning roller skating sesh at the local skating rink. My friend had a hard time choosing what she wanted to order but she eventually settled on the 6 piece wings flavored in Dragon's breath (the hottest sauce they have!) and Mac n cheese. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious especially the Mac n Cheese. I still think about it days, weeks later. Drinks come in a can with a plastic cup filled with ice. The place is small with only a few tables on the inside, which makes it cozy and laid back. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Small crowd the day after Christmas. I met my wife and youngest daughter, Katy, for lunch. I got a Bold Rock while I waited for them to arrive. We started with fried zucchini app. With horseradish sauce. This portion took quite a while to be served and the zucchini was still cold or at best room temperature even though the bread was fried. The temperature was a turn off for my wife and daughter which left most of the pile for me to eat. Tough start! For entrees Katy ordered a Turkey on croissant with fries, my wife got a chicken sandwich with fries and I ordered the meatloaf sandwich special with fried onions, mozzarella cheese and pickles with onion rings. My wife and daughter enjoyed their sandwiches but the fries were small portion. Usually Eddie's serves a larger portions that is borderline "too much", but on this occasion there was less than usual. My meal was great and the onion rings were enough to share with my wife and daughter. It appeared a newish cook was being trained which somewhat explains the lapses in portion and quality of the zucchini. "Steady Eddy's " is usually spot on, so I will consider this a "blip" on the many times we have ate here and will continue to frequent Eddie's for weekday lunches. Thanks! read more

I honestly believe the higher ratings are solely based on the camaraderie of the staff and the patrons mixed. This is definitely a dive and nothing more. There are no available draft beers only cans or bottle with the option served in a plastic cup. No frosted/cold glass shenanigans.You walk in immediately to a few tables, the bar, and open grill concept. In this instance the open kitchen was a God send because it solidified for me that I will not be back. I noticed our waitress eating a sandwich, clearing glasses and trash from tables, work the register, go into the restroom to toss her hair, and handle her phone along with others without EVER washing her hands and still serve food. I saw the cook wear the same pair of gloves to high five a customer, handle cellphone, and cook food on the grill. She NEVER changed them. All the food was very salty and pretty much inedible. Ordered two pump house burgers with onion rings, beer mac n cheese, and zucchini fries. The final nail in the coffin was the little baby bird like feather found fried into my zucchini fries. On a quiet unassuming road in Matthews you may stumble upon a gravel parking lot that is home to Steady Eddy's Pumphouse, a charming family restaurant and neighborhood pub. The inside is small and feels like you are in a remote cabin but behind the main bar there are three large TVs for any sports viewing and there is a whole outdoor patio area where I am told they often have live music. I came in on a Tuesday so it was a relatively quiet night but the bar was full of regulars and I was promptly greeted upon entry. The food is for the most part your standard bar fair featuring a number of sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and your favorite sides like Mac n cheese. My date has always raved about their Cuban sandwich claiming it is one of the best in the Charlotte area. Me personally I was in the mood for a burger. The double patty burger was juicy and the Mac and cheese was extra cheesy. From the charm to the food Steady Eddy's now has a special place in my heart. Went on a Monday and they had 2 for 1 Hot Dogs for the special; for Tuesdays, there's a taco special but I'm not sure that is is. Had chili added to mine but I don't know how much more they added to the check. 4/5 Hot Dog $6.99 Monday 2 for 1, plus chili on top which I didn't know what it was since I didn't pay. The hot dog was a bit over done. Onion rings were par fried from supplier. They were just that...so so. 3/5 Pot Stickers $7.99 were deep fried and not as the name says...pot stickers which is done on a hot skillet and steamed to cook. They should correct the menu to say fried dumplings instead but maybe most people that go here wouldn't know the difference. They have a really cook downstairs part which includes an Atari game console which that alone is a 5 star add! I can imagine have some great drinks and gaming with your friends. My folks and I would drive by this place many times while I visited and it was always busy on weekends and some weeknights, prior to the pandemic. I heard the owner named the bar after his dog, which was pretty neat. Because we have been looking for places closer to Charlotte that make tasty Buffalo style wings, we decided to try Steady Eddy's. We called in an order to go and the gal on the phone seemed very nice. She said the order would take about 20 minutes. The parking for this place is minimal, but the bar itself is a small joint. I didn't go inside as I went with my dad to grab the order and only one of us needed to pick up the food. It smelled good when we got it in the back of the car and drove home. The sauce was good, but it kind of felt like the wings were missing something. Maybe it's because the skin wasn't a little crisp like some other places I've had, but I wasn't sure this was going to be the new wing place I had to buy from when I was in town. I'd maybe try other things on their menu in the future. The titles and descriptions for other food items are clever and fun. read more

Don't judge a book by it's cover. This dive/biker bar looking place is legit, a diamond in the rough. Yes, back in the day it used to be a biker bar, but when the current owner took this place over 3 years ago, he transformed the place. The first floor is this cute "cabin-like" feel, where you listen to blues music over the jukebox. There is the bar and flattop, which is behind the bar so you can watch the cook do their thing (and let me tell you, they have GREAT food, but I'll get to that in a minute). There are no draft beers, but they have a good variety of domestic and a few crafts, and a full bar. But please, don't be ordering some fancy drink with weird shit it in... it's still a dive bar. Next, the basement. You can get there by taking the stairs to the left of the bar, and has couches and oversized comfy chairs. There you'll find some poker machines and fun, nostalgic board games. This leads into the patio where they hold corn hole tournaments every Thursday and Sunday, and have live music Friday and Saturday nights. The patio is DOG FRIENDLY, so feel free to bring your fur babies! Back to the food and staff. The food here is GREAT. It's bar food done right. The burgers are all DOUBLE fresh Angus patties made to order, juicy and on point. My personal fav, the jumbo wings are lightly breaded (just enough to hold the sauce on), and the variety of sauces are all stellar. Their cuban, Philly cheesesteak, and other sandwiches are also very popular. My favorite appetizer is the fried zucchini. Made to order, they cut up an entire zucchini and cover it with a light dredge and House of Autry, letting the zucchini shine and not be overly breaded. Steady's staff are awesome people. There is just a bartender (who doubles as a server) and a cook, and they work their butts off. A second bartender comes in during the evenings Th-Sun to help with volume. The staff is friendly, attentive and hold good conversation. I 100% recommend checking them out if you haven't already. Just as a side note, if it's super busy in there OR if you come in with a large party, please be patient. Like I mentioned above there are 2 people working and the flattop is only so big, so it might take a little while to get your food. So, come in and relax and don't be in a hurry.
