On a visit to Charlotte, North Carolina, this apparently was the place to be. Matthews is definitely a small town in my opinion and the fact that this amazing family friendly bar was opened up was just the perfect addition. After I was picked up from the airport, we headed straight to the bar top and ordered some whiskey drinks and burgers from the food truck outside. Just to be clear, this is a whiskey bar. How can you go wrong with this place. I ordered the jalapeño burger, which was pretty good, but I honestly could've used more of a kick. My spice levels are not the same as everybody else's so it could be plenty for you. If being inside doesn't work for you and or your family, there is a large outdoor space with plenty of picnic tables, cornhole and even an ice cream truck. There was an update on Instagram that they opened up their outdoor bar as well, which is very convenient if you need to keep an eye on your kiddos. I honestly would be a regular if I lived in the area because this would definitely be a great place to come hang out with my friends on any given day.

A pint at the local pub

I'm hesitant to write this post. Not because MSH doesn't deserve five stars, but because I feel this is an awesome hidden gem in Matthews. Matthews Social House is a small pub stashed just off the main drag in town, with a comfortable quaint bar area inside and an area as big as the pub itself out front. Outside offers up many picnic tables for gathering with friends, corn hole, and an ice cream food truck conveniently located just to the right of the pub if you have kids to bring with you. There's also a food truck serving up burgers and, from what I hear, amazing fries just to the left of the pub. The burger truck can be ordered from inside the bar. The inside of the pub is relatively small, that to me is what makes this place great. It will get crowded at night and on the weekends but it's the perfect type of place to grab a pint after work and not feel like your in a gymnasium. It's comfortable with 50 people or two. Feel free to check this place out, but don't go telling every one of your friends about it, I don't need them taking my seat at the bar.

I stopped by MSH after my Sunday league soccer game ... we took a 6-0 beating, but man did this place fix me right up. Beers were ice cold. Food was incredible - one of the best pub burgers that I have EVER had in my life. Wow - just WOW. And the fries were also amazing! Riley and Jacko behind the bar were stellar! This place is a great addition to the area. Do yourself a favor and go check them out. -Marco

Having known the owners (Gary, Jacko and Steven) of this new place in Matthews for a long time, one of them for over 4 years, sorry , this is a biased review. Lol. Mattys SoHo sits in a small brick building behind temple mojo, just off Trade street in my sweet little town of Matthews, NC . The bar area is quaint with low ceilings and dim lighting with plenty of seating in a large area with a pool table. There are other board type games dotted throughout the place as well. The decorations of the vintage pictures, whiskey jugs/pitchers, and various Irish framed posters make it feel like you're in the cozy den of some really good friends. These guys will make you feel like family right away . (Including Downtown Lewis Brown who spins an amazing Playlist on the weekend, & also makes a delicious cocktail) There are 2 TVs situated over the bar for those who need a sports fix. A big plus for me is knowing that there are bathroom checks done ! This place can get quite busy in evenings and weekends and I personally like when there is toilet paper and soap at all times and the toilets are tidy. Lol. There are plenty of drink options for all tastes with plenty of beer on tap (including Guiness ), bottles of brew, cocktails, wine or seltzer. If being inside isnt your thing, then have a seat outside on one of the many, many picnic tables . Hungry? , try The Social Burger also on the premises and Nixon will serve you up an amazing burger and fries. (Including a vegan option). Get your sweet tooth filled at The Local Scoop icecream truck in the family friendly outdoor shared space. Matthews has exploded with food and bev options for just about anyone, add Matthews Social House to your list of places to try, you won't be disappointed.

She didn't say anything to us but the black server immediately came out and told us we needed to leave because of our attire. We were kempt and professional, yet casual. The servers had on uggs, leggings, half zip nylon pullovers, and had the audacity to approach us about attire. I will never, ever, spend my dollars, nor recommend this place to anyone...for ANYTHING.

The salted butter was definitely my favorite with the bread but it was fun to try the sweet maple cinnamon butter and savory fresh herb butter. Our food arrived lightning fast. Unfortunately the kitchen was out of apples, which would have added a nice crunch and tang to the salad, but I just sipped my drink (which was not lavender forward) to get that "bite" instead. I had high hopes for this restaurant when I made a reservation for Valentine's Day, but…read moreunfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. While I take full responsibility for arriving 15 minutes late, I was shocked at how rudely the hostess--who we later learned was the manager--handled the situation. Rather than a simple acknowledgment of the delay, or improbability of getting a table, she made a point to shame us, emphasizing that accommodating us would be an extra burden for her. This set an uncomfortable tone from the start. When she begrudgingly seated us at a table that had somehow magically become available, she made another unnecessary comment, implying that I should do my part to not make her job so difficult again. My partner was immediately put off and suggested we leave, but I decided to give the restaurant another chance, assuming the manager might just be having a rough night. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The food, best described as uninspired frozen bar fare from the main Duckworth's kitchen, took over 30 minutes to arrive--and even then, it was served before our drinks. When the drinks finally did arrive, they were nothing exceptional. I ordered a French 75, and my partner had a Paloma, only to realize that even the drinks had come from downstairs at Duckworth's. Given the restaurant's supposed reputation, I was surprised that it didn't have its own bar, unlike how things are set up at The Cellar. The only redeeming aspect of our visit was our waitress, who was pleasant and professional. However, what puzzled us the most was that despite the manager's initial reluctance to seat us, nearly half of the restaurant remained empty throughout the evening. With at least three or four servers working in a relatively small space, it was clear that staffing wasn't the issue--so why the hostility? It was hard not to wonder if other potential diners had been similarly turned off by the manager's deplorable attitude and the underwhelming menu. Overall, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths--both literally and figuratively. Between the lackluster food and drinks, and the uncalled-for attitude from management (she is bald and was wearing a dress on the evening of 2/14/25 at 9:30PM-11PM), I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.

For the main dish I got the spicy smash burger and added bacon. The burger was pretty tasty, both patties were juicy and overall it was the perfect spice. I will say, the burger patties themselves didn't really seem like smash style patties, they were fairly thicker and seemed to be normal grilled patties. Having two was almost too much burger to bun/topping ratio in my opinion. Fries could have been a little more seasoned and crispy as well, but that's more of a personal preference.
