Took one of Yelp's suggestions for lunch in the area (Thanks, Yelp!) and ate at the Irish Pub called Nora Mac's. Lots of dark wood, dark green upholstery, and Irish Knick-knacks/advertisements/decor, plus traditional Irish music playing. There is also rooftop seating. I ordered the Lavender Gin Spritz from the seasonal cocktail menu, along with a starter of Bread and Butter (homemade Irish Brown Bread with a selection of freshly made butters) and The Orchard Salad topped with grilled chicken. The salted butter was definitely my favorite with the bread but it was fun to try the sweet maple cinnamon butter and savory fresh herb butter. Our food arrived lightning fast. Unfortunately the kitchen was out of apples, which would have added a nice crunch and tang to the salad, but I just sipped my drink (which was not lavender forward) to get that "bite" instead. I went here one day for lunch and really enjoyed the experience. Everyone that we came into contact with was very nice. The service was quick, the food was tasty. I tried the buffalo chicken wrap and was not disappointed. It was a nice day out, so we decided to sit out on their patio, which was the best decision. Although the patio isn't huge, it is still setup nicely so that you don't feel like you're sitting on top of others. Just came here for a late night dinner. Recently arrived in town. I had a 4 hour drive here so I was starving. The bartender/server was pretty awesome. She was polite and very helpful. Made the whole experience there well worth the trip. Anyway, I settled on a Caesar salad and fish and chips. Beautiful thing was she came out with ketchup and malt vinegar as I waited for the food. I didn't even have to ask for it. Which for me is a good sign. Caesar salad was pretty good. Better than some regular restaurants. The fish and chips were ok. I thought the breading on the cod could be better. Id honestly get something else if I ever go back. I'm only here for a day or 2 so.... Anyway, the place was pretty nice. They had live music. While Irish food is not my first choice I can say that I I liked my corned beef and cabbage and my friends enjoyed their food (beef stew, fish & chips). I will say that if someone doesn't like traditional Irish food, they won't have too many options here. I was so busy enjoying my food after taking pictures of everybody else's - that I forgot to snap one of my plate. I got the Irish breakfast, it was delicious. Along with a cup of fabulous fresh onion soup!!! Soooooo good! There are pictures of it on Google reviews that someone else took so take a peek. Ballantyne Roast beef sandwich, Reuben sandwich, shepherds pie, curry dish, Irish spice bag, I loved the sausage pastries. Steaming hot Irish Bread with 3 butters. Can't wait to go back, and won't forget to snap a picture of my plate, but the next meal is going to be fish and chips! We were too full for dessert but they were able to easily handle a table of 13 women at 11 AM no issues. Oh! They have a days long St. Patrick's Day celebration! You've got to look it up online and call to see what they've got going on. They also have Irish music and Irish bands and while I didn't go upstairs, I was told that they have a space upstairs. Located near the Gibson building in Ballantyne, it's a little hidden away. But there are a reasonable amount of tables inside, and we were able to get seated immediately. We were all in agreement that the food was simply outstanding. I ordered a cup of onion soup and the shepherd's pie. Both dishes were outstanding. I can't remember having a better version of these dishes- even from homemade. Some slight criticisms - the soup was supposed to arrive at the table before the mains, which it did. But there was only about a five minute lag before the mains came to the table. So that was a little annoying. Also the prices seem a bit high for what you get. I don't mind paying a premium for good food, but that usually means the portion size is the standard oversized American amount. These dishes however were just the right size, but pricing should have been proportionate. At any rate, the service was fast and the food was outstanding. I highly recommend a visit. read more

We started at the bar while waiting for our table and were seated in a timely manner, especially considering it was crowded for a Wednesday night. To start, we had the Reuben egg rolls and chili cheese wedges, both of which were solid appetizers. Before our meal, we tried the French onion soup and broccoli salad. I enjoyed the French onion soup, although some found it a bit sour. The broccoli salad, on the other hand, was very good--light and not too heavy. For our main courses, we ordered the bangers and mash, fish and chips, and Irish chicken curry, and everyone enjoyed their meals. You MUST try the bread pudding with Baileys or vanilla ice cream--it was absolutely delicious! This place will be great on St. Patty's Day. Very loud music. Started with the French Onion soup and it was lacking in flavor. Plenty of cheese but the broth left a lot to be desired. Then had the chicken tenders and spring rolls. The honey mustard sauce was the best. Next time I will try a real meal as opposed to the appetizers. I was not happy with either of the choices . (6/14/25) I decided on Nora Mac's since I'd already had my sushi yesterday. So far service has been wonderful. We were seated quickly and presented with menus. I ordered a Harp ale and my wife ordered sweet tea. I'm having a cup of onion soup to start and Bangers and Mash as my main. My wife ordered fish and chips. The onion soup was a miniature onion soup loaded with cheese. It was hot & delicious. The bangers and mash sat on a load of peas. There was a sauce that accompanied it. All of it was yummy. I decided to voyage ahead & I ordered the bread pudding for dessert. The Bailey's ice cream was made in Waxhaw. It was great. The pudding itself was very dense but tasty. I can't wait for an opportunity to go again & taste some more of the menu. They also have a nice selection of whiskey. The ambiance is to recreate an Irish pub. They do the job well. This was our third visit. We came back because I loved my burger on visit #2 and was hoping for a repeat. Unfortunately, this time was a bust. Host and servers were great, but when my "medium" burger came out the bottom bun was soaked with blood. I cut into it and it was barely cooked (my husband's as well). The server was great and took them both back to be "fixed". 10 minutes later the same burgers came back out, cooked more, but placed back on the same blood soaked bun. My husband went with it and ate his, but I couldn't even pick it up because the bun was so soggy. The waitress was super apologetic again and took it back. About 20-25 mins later a new burger appeared. Cooked correctly thankfully. We went ahead and asked for the check and a box because everyone else was done eating. The check arrived....both burgers still on it and no visit from anyone other than our server to apologize for what happened. I'm pretty understanding b/c I've worked in restaurants before, but this was super disappointing. I was never mean or outrageous asking for it to be fixed, in fact, I apologized because I hate sending food back. Too bad their management doesn't seem to care about customer experience. You probably wouldn't be reading this if someone other than the server had just taken the time to say sorry for the mess up. Not sure if we'll be back. read more

Had a great night out here recently and wanted to give them their deserved kudos! I was with a large group including two babies, and the staff was very helpful and accommodating in getting us set up on the roof per our request. The service was fantastic, and when the night got a little bit chilly they were quick to adjust the heat lamps to make sure we were comfortable. Also despite the fact that the rooftop has its own smaller menu, they were kind enough to let us order off the main menu. It was incredible how much they went out of their way to treat their guests. The bar is cozy inside and the rooftop is the perfect place to unwind on a nice evening. They had some live music going which provided a great environment to throw back a Guinness. Everyone enjoyed their food, and overall I left very impressed and glad that I found another Irish Pub I can count on for a cheeky pint and a good meal. read more

I met a friend here for lunch. From him I found out this was owned by the same people who own Mary O'Neill's in Waxhaw....a place we've eaten at many times. At Mary O'Neill's I usually get the Water Tower Salad, which is a huge salad! At Nora Mac's I got the Salad with Blackened Shrimp. It was a good salad but I was expecting one the size of the Water Tower at Mary's.... disappointed. Also they did have the Apple Vinaigrette. The atmosphere is more upscale from Mary's. The service was excellent. I might be back but please add a Big Salad like the Water Tower and the Apple Vinaigrette! read more

Writing this review as I'm waiting for our meal. It's been a while since we put in our order and I see all the other tables have their food. So, not sure what the delay is. We had to send our drinks back because either the server didn't understand the order or the bar. (And then they charged $18 and $15 for martinis and they were bad) Seems like the server is overloaded with tables tonight, not her fault but management's. Been here for an hour and have only got our drinks. The food has finally come (after an hour) and the chicken tortilla soup lacks spice but after an hour I'm starving. The Hamburger is good, even though asked for medium rare and came out medium well. The coleslaw has too much onion flavor . The place has been consistently crowded tonight but I don't think we will come back - bad drinks and mediocre food. Post note - Ordered a Cosmo light on the juice - Came back red and even when the new one came back and it had less juice but still Not worth $15 or $18. Nora Mac's is a traditional Irish Pub which is the perfect addition to Ballantyne! There's nothing else like it around here. Owned by the same group as Mary O'Neills in Waxaw, these guys know their stuff! It being a brand new restaurant, (opened 3 days ago) you'd expect some kinks to be worked out but we were shocked at how professional and established it felt already! Our waiter was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the menu, it felt like she had worked there for years. The menu is similar to the Waxhaw location but there are some differences which I appreciate. Guinness, Smithwicks, Irish car bombs, you name it, they have it! The food was fantastic as well. I've been to Nora Mac's twice now and enjoyed both visits. So nice to not have to drive to Waxhaw for great Irish food at other location, Mary O'Neill's. Hubby & I both had the Shepherd's Pie first visit and it was delicious. Met a dear friend from high school/college there over Thanksgiving holidays and had the fish & chips which were also delish! She got a sandwich that she loved (cannot remember which one) and it was large enough for her to take half home. Service is consistently great and attentive. Nice pub atmosphere but bright and open instead of typical close quarters and darker lighting. read more

A group of guys from the neighborhood met up at Nora Mac's for food and drinks on a recent Monday night to celebrate the season while our wives were doing a cookie exchange. We tried a number of dishes including fish and chips, corned beef rolls, a rueben, and the shepherds pie special. The food was great and our server Hannah was attentive and easy to work with. I came here for lunch to meet a dining group that never showed up. (Found out they had cancelled and rescheduled without telling me). The owner showed genuine concern for my dilemma and seems to be a nice person. Thank you. He's from Ireland, and like the typical American I told him what part of Ireland my ancestors were from and he listened with interest, although I'm sure he's heard similar stories a Gazillion times. Lol ! I decided to go ahead and have lunch since I was there. I ordered bangers and mash. After receiving my meal I never saw my waitress again until the check was delivered. That was odd since they didn't seem particularly busy. Perhaps since I was alone, they didn't bother thinking the tip wasn't going to be worth it ? If she WOULD have returned, I would have told her there was something wrong with my mashed potatoes. They were EXTREMELY watered down and had absolutely no flavor. At the end of my meal the owner stopped by and asked about my meal and I informed him about the mashed potatoes. He tried to suggest it was likely the gravy poured on top, but I had specifically taken from an area of just potatoes and that was definately the problem. He stated he would check with the kitchen then thanked me for trying the place out. Fyi...The peas also had no flavor and tasted just like the frozen Birds Eye peas you get at the grocery store and boil them with no seasonings and put on a plate. The bangers were excellent flavor and seemed high quality (I did mention this to the owner that the meat was excellent). We had been to the many iterations of restaurants that had come and gone at this location over the years, so decided why not give this new place a try since it is so close to our house, but unfortunately for us, it failed to live up to the hype found in the early reviews, as our visit was lackluster at best and even that may be generous. We entered with high hopes and were asked by the hostess if we wanted to sit in the dining area or at one of the tables in the bar area. We chose the bar area and she asked if we needed a server and we said yes. We then proceeded to wait and wait and wait as no server appeared. Eventually someone came to place a carafe of water on our table, but when we asked her about a cocktail menu, she told us to go up to the bar and ask them or ask our server. Before we could reply, she ran off into the abyss. More time elapsed before we eventually had a server introduce himself without mention of the delay or an explanation as to where he was, even though the place had less than 10 patrons in the bar area, with only 4 seated at tables. It was our first time, and given that this is still a fairly new establishment, we were expecting some sort of welcome, but there was none to be had. We asked about a cocktail menu and the server said the bartender could make whatever we wanted. We then proceeded to go 0 for 3 on cocktail orders, as they were missing ingredients for every one we ordered, so eventually, we just split one beer. At no point did the server mention the food menu, specials, recommendations, or anything else, as he disappeared into the same abyss the first employee vanished into we guess. We decided to cut our losses and just have the beer since it didn't seem like anyone was interested in selling us any food anyway. Once we asked for the check, we proceeded to see the server 2 different times within the span of a few minutes, asking if we were all set with the bill (it's funny how they seem to magically reappear over and over at that point). Overall disappointing experience that unfortunately mirrored the mediocre and uninspired service that was the downfall of all the places before it at this same location. We hope this place lasts longer than all of the others, but given all the options in the area, we won't be spending our hard earned money here again, as we didn't feel like welcomed or valued as patrons at all. We had a really nice time eating at Nora Mac's. The ambience is warm and cozy and the service is friendly and inviting. We started off with the bread appetizer. This is not what comes to mind when I think about Irish brown bread, however, it was good and the flavored butters were very robust. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered the beef stew. The fish was incredibly flaky, and the crust was crispy and had a nice flavor; a really solid quality piece of fish. The fries were also very good, they had good seasoning and were decently crisp. I tried my friend's beef stew, and thought that it lacked depth the flavor. I could not taste the thyme and thought that it needed more salt. The main flavors of the dish were that of the beef, which was very good, and the potatoes, which were somewhat on the bland side. It was a very hearty dish. Since this was our first time trying this pub, we decided to have the dessert. I ordered the bread pudding and my friend ordered the brownie. The bread pudding wasn't what I expected, it seemed to be served in an individual portion instead of cut from a larger piece, which is usually what I'm accustomed to when ordering bread pudding at a restaurant. The flavor was really good and I enjoyed the bread pudding a lot. The brownie on the other hand was Completely unappetizing. My friend did not eat it, and I tried it as well and found it very unpleasant. I'm not sure how you can mess up a brownie, but this is clearly not made in house, and it is lacking in chocolate, decadence, flavor, And of course enjoyability. I would completely avoid this unless they changed the recipe entirely. This is a nice little pub that is upscale, not in every man's Irish pub, but is exactly what you would expect in this neighborhood. We would definitely come back again. They definitely have some strengths and some weaknesses, when we look forward to seeing this business grow and develop their menu through time. read more
