Over the years we've only had one issue... they didn't have any Iced Tea one day‍ but we survived The waitstaff are always friendly and never miss a step. Hit up Mary O'Neill's for a late afternoon lunch and was not disappointed. We decided to try the Shepherd's Pie and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. The Shepherd's Pie was fantastic. It was filled with beef, peas, carrots and onions throughout with an even distribution and the mashed potatoes were pillowy goodness. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap was also very good. Great flavor. The service was a bit slow even for a late afternoon. Expected a bit more there but otherwise a great experience and recommend stopping by for a bite. read more

I don't remember our server's name, but she was so helpful and asked questions for us if she didn't know the answer. My husband wanted to purchase a beer glass but the owner graciously gave us 2. This food can be pretty healthy as well so overall only the only reason I give it four stars is every now and again you don't get well service you can tell your food is done, but they just don't bring it to you but overall the service as well. On a mission to try all of the restaurants in downtown Waxhaw Mary O'Neill's is one of the best we've tried. Everyone is super friendly and the food is great too. They have an outdoor patio with tons of space. We ordered fried pickles to start and fish and chips for our main. Two really, really good choices. The fish was a great size and perfectly battered and fried. I fell in love with the fries that were perfectly seasoned. Will definitely be back to try some of the bigger dishes like the nachos and the bangers and mash. read more

Just left Mary Oneills . Gabby provided great service for our meal on the patio!!! Then went inside to listen to the band and purchase more drinks. We ask for wait service after spending $200 on our meals outside and was told by one of the FOUR hostesses that it was "inconvenient" to wait on us and we had to go to the bar for drink service. We were sitting at a table. One of the hostesses gave the explanation that they were a bar RESTAURANT and not just a bar!!!! good luck with that when you have a band that begins at 9pm. Spoke to the manager who was apologetic but a little too late. We will likely never return. Why did they even have a band who started at 9pm. AFTER the dinner hour and not provide a wait staff. The FOUR hostess need to be fired or trained. For the prices we pay at bars/restaurants I don't think it is too much to ask for a waitress. I guess these ladies want to get paid for STANDING and looking at their phones. They could have earned tips from us !!! I watched one of them ROLL their eyes at me while I was talking to the manager. Great pub! Excellent service with authentic menu options. We have had lunch in the dining area as well as dinner at the bar. Both are great. Fish and chips is a favorite and for good reason. The fish is perfectly battered and crispy. Fries are well seasoned. Tartar sauce is tangy and creamy. Malt vinegar is available as well as ketchup. The special seasoning on the burger is very special. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium as ordered and piping hot. Onion rings are surprisingly awesome. My husband didn't offer to share- and he is usually quick to share. I stole one and it was worth the glare I got! Lots of beverage options including a winter cocktail menu. They also do an excellent job on layered drafts. Our favorite is the snakebite - guiness and cider. Smithwicks on draft, also a great choice. Staff is friendly and quick to clear tables and plates. Stopped in for a late lunch on a Monday. Hostess sat us immediately (it was quiet as expected) and our server was very nice, attentive and friendly. They have a full bar (w/ Guinness of course) and some microbrews available. The restaurant had some nice Irish music playing and sports channel playing on the bar TV. We sat and were given ice cold water in a vintage milk bottle (loved it). It was blistering hot and humid so it was a nice touch. Shepards pie and Rueben with a side of fries and coleslaw was delivered fast and fresh. The pie was delicious and a perfect proportion. It had beef/lamb in a nice thick sauce with peas and carrot topped with the smoothest perfectly mashed potatoes. The rueben was tender, moist and very large in size. The fries were nothing special. Then again, they were just fries. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp but could have used a bit more seasoning. We order chocolate ice cream for dessert that is sourced from the local creamery and was absolutely delicious. Seriously, I would gladly drive the 15 miles to get that ice cream again. Well very disappointed they advertise Prime Rib night Wednesday well it starts at 5 pm arrived at 5.30 pm was told they were all. out. Are you kidding me they lie to draw you in and I am sure 8 of 10 people stay and eat the other garbage. One thing I can't stand is liers and misleading the public to make money. The great part about the Pub is the food is always excellent and the atmosphere and service is fantastic. My only issue is everyone I eat there they keep raising their prices. Isebto be $10 for the fish and chips special on Tuesdays! (Highly recommended) And in less then 2 years it's now $13. Along with draft beers that are $8 a pint it's not such a great deal anymore. We will still go but just less often. read more

We sat outside in the outdoor dining area due to our little pup being with us. Emma H was our server and she got a big bowl of water for our dog without complain. I had the Reuben sandwich which was delicious and the pastrami meat was was excellent without fat or gristle. My wife had the fish and chips, and it was also excellent and followed up with bread pudding, which was also well prepared and not soggy which is a common complaint I've had with bread pudding. Dining with friends at this southern inspired Irish pub restaurant, cozy atmosphere, good attentive service, nice menu featuring traditional Irish and southern cuisine. The drinks are good and most the staff is fun, helpful and kind. But one of the bar keeps - made very insulting comments describing my loved ones heritage undergoing genocide as a "blanket" - when I hadn't even been ordering with him at the time. and when I had finally ordered with him and told him the name of my tab, he asked be again about it... after ignoring me about said tab; assuming he had heard me the first time, began to describe the tab holder assuming it was simple miscommunication... Only for him to cut me off and straight up ignore me. It wasn't busy enough on a halloween for all that... and it would have been fine if it had ended there, I suffer from a brain and spinal injury forcing me to use a cane and was struggling to stand yet He began to shout at me after we got the drink tab sorted as I was headed out the door causing me to spill... He had time to make remarks towards me while not serving me and time to shout, but not enough to spend 5 seconds to let me repeat myself? Seriously, ive had dirty utensils, had food and drink spilled on me, I became disabled in this industry... NEVER have I felt the need to complain. They went out of his way to criticize my loved one's heritage and shout at me for a miscommunication between the two of us but couldn't spend 5 seconds listening to my order. Very poor service compared to the ease of ordering with other workers. This is a nice Irish pub style restaurant. During my visit the town had their Halloween event and parking was very bad. Inside there was plenty of room to seat us right away. Rugby was playing on the TV's with a bunch of fans watching. I ordered the bangers and mash which I forgot to take a photo of. Tasted very good though. We (my work team) came here after a shooting fundraising with 12 gauge shotguns. The food and beer was delicious! The servers were so hospitable and our server had a memory like an elephant. It's a dive but the ambience is perfect. It's a place you can come to just have a good time with friends/family and have a good time. Perfect beverages. I sat at the bar for a drink and a bite to eat with my boyfriend. The bartender came over to ask for our drink order. I asked him to make me a Cosmo with Grey Goose, Couintreau and a splash of cranberry as I do not like lime juice. He interrupted me and said not to tell him how to make the drink. I asked him if he was joking and he said he was serious and then tried to school me on how a traditional Cosmo is made. I guess I was wrong in thinking that I had a say in something I was paying for. Especially when these drinks aren't cheap. If you have ever ordered these drinks before, you will know that there are variations and can taste significantly different from restaurant to restaurant. Needless to say, I will not be going there again. I instead went down the street and had an awesome lunch experience with the drink I actually ordered. No side of jerk either. read more

A few reviews have dissed their French fry potatoes as rubbery, or undercooked. Uh, that's the Irish way so they soak up all that tangy malt vinegar. Pro tip: order your fries double-cooked to get that American crispiness (yes, I double-checked with the owner). Problem solved. Looking for a place to unwind without hopping a red eye to Dublin?
