Stumptown Stations is a sort of elevated neighborhood bar. They put an emphasis on quality cocktails and the place is adorned with comfortable leather seating, but it is by no means stuffy. They have several TVs making it a great place for game day, and they also have live music on the weekend nights. You can belly up to the bar to watch football and chat with the bartender, or you can head up to the loft floor above if you want want a little more intimate experience. They really do offer a lot here. Also for what it's worth my girlfriend is a big espresso martini fan and claims the one she had here is among the best in the Charlotte area. read more

My partner came with his friend and had a really horrible time reason being they were made to feel uncomfortable and unwanted by staff I'm not sure if it was because they didn't like that my partner is young or part of the LGTQ community They were talked rudely too by a Male staff member I've worked in restaurants my whole life I know customers hospitality and being rude and disrespectful to a costumer due to age or they way they present themselves is not a good business strategy it's sad because this bar as wonderful drinks but I and my partner and friends don't feel welcomed and that's a shame read more

Showed up and had 2 drinks, a tequila spritzer and a single Noda Hop drop and Roll. We had an open tab, they handed us the card back, and that was that. Now, we did leave without speaking to the bartender to officially "close the tab." In scenarios like that, it's usual for the establishment to close the tab with a 20-25% tip, which would have been fair. They tipped themselves $30 on a $20 tab. They gave themselves an over 100% tip on our tab. We're Matthews locals. We love this community. This bar will not be getting our service again, they completely took advantage of us. Very disappointed to be treated like that by a local bar. Again, I get it's customary for open tabs at the end of the night to tip themselves well, I'm fine with that. To tip themselves over 100% of the tab total is absurd and predatory. Never again. read more

Stumptown Station is a private bar (cocktail, wine, beer) located in Matthews, NC (around 15 miles Southeast of Charlotte, NC). Since it is a private club, there is a fee of $5 per year (or VIP at $30 per year, which comes with own engraved glass / mug). The membership of $5 allows each person to bring up to 4 guests (only 1 entry allowed). The space itself is located in a 2 level brownstone building. There are several options on the menus, but I really like Mules, so I decided to try their Matthews Market Mule (made with NC Vodka, NC Ginger Ale, Fresh Lime with Stumptown Seasonal Pick). This is a perfect example of what a local bar should be, as it is a located in a storefront on trade street that harkens back to days of old, but once you walk inside, you are greeted and treated like family in a very genuine and authentic way that is hard to find at most places large or small these days. The owner/bartender Brandon welcomed me with open arms and even though there was a decent crowd at the bar, he took the time to explain the concept of the bar to me, (private membership which included filling out info on an iPad along with a $5 membership fee that was simply added to the tab) including letting me know all about the local spirits and beers they carried. He also shared a few anecdotes about the various spirits which was a nice touch and really added to the down home feel of the place. At no time did I feel like an outcast, as both the staff and the bar patrons were friendly from the start and made me feel right at home even though it was my first time there. The Matthews market mule that I ordered was without a doubt the best take on a Moscow mule that I have ever had, as the local Salamander vodka paired with the cinnamon and apple that was added to the drink made took it to a completely different level than the standard Moscow mule as the flavors complemented each other so well and the drink didn't have the heavy ginger beer taste that is so typical of most Moscow mules that I have tried across Charlotte. In closing, I just want to say that this is the kind of place that I wish was closer to me as I would totally be a regular if it was. Also would be cool if they served food, but they do allow you to bring in food from the local places, but not the same as a one stop shop. Small nit picky things to be sure as the positives far outweigh these minor issues and these things definitely don't keep Stumptown Station from joining the exclude five star club, as this place is a keeper no doubt about it! read more

What can't I say about Stumptown. It's like cheers, here you are family. We moved to Matthews in December 2018 from Colorado. We knew nothing or anyone here. We quickly felt welcome within the walls of Stumptown. Brandon is a master at making the most amazing old fashioned. Tell Kristen to make you anything and she will blow your socks off. Josh and now his brother are a great team to watch behind the bar . Ha. They go above and beyond and remember your name. Best craft cocktails around. Stopped off at Stumptown Station during a pass through Charlotte and was completely wowed! The transformation that took this place from a run down dive to its current state is truly inspirational. The cocktail menu has elevated the classics to a new level. These guys actually keep it pretty simple, which is why I think they are killing it and this is a true gem. One of our biggest pet peeves is when a bartender is not friendly and acts like that can't be bothered to serve you, and that was NOT the case here. The drinks were also delicious! We had been looking forward to checking this place out ever since it opened but kept wondering why it was always so empty. NOW we know why. Finally stopped in tonight, ready to enjoy some cocktails, hoping Stumptown Station would become our regular cocktail bar. We live nearby and really enjoy good cocktails. We walked into the bar, full with a mere seven patrons, and received an awkward hello at the door. We thought it was a "members only" place and lingered at the door, ready to sign up for a membership or whatnot, but the awkward hello was all we got. We sat down at a table--most were empty--and waited for service. And waited. And not only was there no service, there wasn't even an acknowledgement of us sitting there or a gesture or something to inform us how to go about getting drinks. Instead, the two people working the bar were chatting with a couple people sitting at the bar. They weren't just making drinks or serving other customers--they were chit chatting. And a third employee was smoking outside. To top it off, my girlfriend made a comment about how cool the floors looked. I checked them out and realized they were actually quite dirty. For a place that is as empty as this place always is, dirty floors are especially alarming. We hoped to find our new local cocktail bar. Instead, after waiting ten minutes for service, we walked on out without any drinks, never to return. read more

Me and my friends went out to this venue on 10/17/21 around 10:00 PM. We are of asian descent and a part of the BGLT community. Upon entering the vibe was already weird and unwelcoming. The bartender working that night asked for all of our ID's which we happily obliged. The bartender was staring deep and long into my lesbian friend's ID as if looking for something to decline before deciding to serve her. I myself whom is a transgendered person had an ID from SC which for the record NEVER had any issues with at any of the bars in Charlotte, was turned down even though I had my debit and credit cards under the same name. His reply was "We don't accept out of state ID." Which in my mind is BS considering NC is right next to SC and I've never had that issue when traveling around in other states outside of NC. So either the bartender just did not know how to properly identify different states ID or he just wanted to be a douche bag and didn't want to serve us for some reason. If my intuition is correct than I know exactly why that played out the way it did. I am quite turned off by how we were treated and we proceeded to of course take our business elsewhere which we didn't have ANY issues. I Just wanted to inform other folks who may be researching this place to know that you may be turned away for reasons that do not make sense. Being that it's 2021 I hope that this wasn't discrimination. But you never know because we are still in the "South". so I just wanted to give a red light to those that may be of similar background and community to be aware of if you decide to set foot in this establishment. I definitely won't and just hope that no one else had to deal with this similar experiences. If you did than let other people know as well so they won't waste their time. read more

Came here Saturday night for the first time and this is exactly like a cheers feel, except with some amazing live music. I first peeked in the window to see what was going on and Brandon waved back at me through the window from behind the bar, and that was a great first impression. We were lucky enough to have experienced William Nesmith (singer, songwriter, pianist) as their live music for the night. He played everything from Journey, Billy Joel, Lady GaGa, Lionel Ritchie, Prince, and many more. The drinks were excellent along with the service. There is also a game room upstairs.
