First trip to Charlotte, will be visiting great places in the next 3 days! This is my second stop for the day... it's to meet up with colleagues (though this is a personal/pleasure trip) for lunch. Let's start with service when I called to make reservations. They were so friendly and sounded happy to have us. The follow up call the day before was on point, again with the glee that you'd expect from great customer service. The staff was wonderful. Our waitress was friendly, asked whether we wanted to order or wait for the remaining party. The food came out quickly but taste wasn't compromised. I ordered the fried shrimp tacos. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the veggies not greasy or such thick batter which some restaurants tend to make them. Super deliciously served with cole slaw and secret yummy sauce. My colleagues ordered burger, bbq ranch chicken salad, salmon with salad and veggie pizza. They were happy with their orders, well there's a reason why they frequent Cedar Street Tavern! Great wings, great fries, great service and all in a great uptown Charlotte location. A coworker and I walked over here after an uptown meeting today. He's a bit of a regular here and knows I'm a wing fan so he insisted we try them out. I'm glad he twisted my arm. We were told to pick a seat when we walked in and had service right away. It's a full bar with a good looking beer selection, but sadly I had to drink water. The wings made up for it. I ordered ten wings (5 teriyaki and 5 jerk). Both were excellently cooked crispy and juicy with great flavor. The presentation with greens and celery was impressive. We also split some fries and they didn't disappoint. If you want a quick bite in Charlotte's 4th Ward or a drink you should visit Cedar Street Tavern. It's nothing to write home about, and it won't wow you in anyway. It is simple bar food that taste good enough to please your tastebuds and fill your stomach. I had the very basic fried chicken sandwich and it was basic but cooked well. The fires were fries and were good. My only flaw with the sandwich is it could have been a bit bigger. Overall for a quick and easy bite before or especially after a Panthers game coast here to avoid traffic. Drinks are poured, something on the menu for everyone and indoor and outdoor seating. We are staying in a VRBO just one block away from this place. We were welcomed warmly and told to sit wherever we like. We were then attended too, quickly. I asked for the waitress's top 3 menu selections and she was quick to offer hers. Had a fun fruity lemonade cocktail with watermelon pucker. Tasty and tart!! Then tried the Orange creamsicle cocktail from the features menu. It was interesting. I ordered a wrap with turkey and avocado, on a spinach wrap. It was huge and tasty. The menu was wide and seemed to have something for everyone. Overall, if in the area again, I would return. I also felt like the prices on the food menu were reasonable. We stopped here for lunch on a hot (90 degree) Saturday after going on a walking tour in West Charlotte. It was barely cooler inside than outside. I think the a/c was broken. There was one gal working front of house as bartender, server, expo, busser--you get the idea. It took her a while to take our order and bring food/drinks. Life is pretty good when you come across places like these. No B.S. tavern where the food is good, cheap and so are the beers. It's a spot for the none poser crowds just wanna sit down, grub out and slam a couple of beers. Then shoot the breeze and have some real good times with real good friends.   If you do order the mystery beer, it's like playing random local beer roulette. I mean local as in the beer is sourced not too far away, like in the same state that the establishment is sitting on. It's a cool concept, it's nice to try out some random beer from made just around the corner. Definitely the best way to try something new.   Anyways, our first time here was late so we had their late night menu items. Which consisted mostly of their appetizer selections. I think we ended up ordering 25 wings to share family style that night, along with onion rings, mozzarella sticks and fried pickles. We were allowed to choose 3 different sauces on the wings. I picked their Lip Kisser sauce since it was the hottest sauce in their arsenal. I decided to give that one a world... Yes it was hot... And NO I wasn't defeated. That sauce I can definitely say, can hold a candle to the Blazin sauce from that commercial wing joint.   Anyways, we also has their Cedar Street burgers the next day and they were very good as well. Server forgot to ask us how we liked our burgers cooked, but that's not a big deal to us. The sweet potato fries are to die for though. The waitress was super nice, but the food took about 3 days to come out, only for the sides to be cold. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was good!!! I did enjoy that. However, all of us got the sweet potato fries and they came out cold. Our waitress was sweet and replaced it for us, but it was just a little aggravating because we had waited so long for our food to come out and half of it was cold. Cedar street is amazing. The Restaurant themselves get a 6/5, truly. Everyone who works there is awesome, consistent, and after dozens of times eating here my order has never been messed up. Not one time. I would encourage anybody to check out cedar street, but the reason for the 3 star is due to a select few of the clientele. We were there on a Tuesday at 7:30 pm, grabbing a quick bite and a drink to go home around the corner. Two of their patrons had been out there drinking since 3 pm and were never cut off by the staff. One of these people was trying to engage with a fistfight with my friend, and his wife kept egging him on do start a fight. We hadn't exchanged 2 words with this group of 'people' other than casual pleasantries. The staff & management here are phenomenal and the food is excellent. However, they need to cut people off who have been drinking there for 5 hours through the middle of a Tuesday afternoon. The couple were clearly quite degenerate with long-standing and severe alcohol problems; people like this who are starting fights at their establishment should be barred from coming back permanently. They should also keep track of their patrons and ensure that unemployed 40+ year old heathens are not drinking there for 5 hours straight on weekday afternoons. That is my only feedback, all-in-all cedar street is one of the most well-managed restaurants I've ever been to, they simply need to keep tabs on a few unsavory people and ban them from the restaurant so that civilized, normal, non-alcoholic swine can enjoy their time at the restaurant. I ordered onion rings because I wanted a snack (lite, but not so lite). The initial bartender was really nice and patient. The 2nd person that took over was very nice and checked on me several times while I enjoyed the fresh onion rings. They slice and cook the onion rings to order, so you know they are fresh, they are not doused with a batter, they are lightly coated with a crispy texture. I will visit again to try other things on the menu when it's not so late at night. I stopped short of 5 stars only because I can't get a true taste of the place until I make it during the day or early evening. read more

A decent enough little corner tavern that I've been to for lunch and beers after work. No issues whatsoever in previous visits. Solid enough. But leaving work early one day and ducked in to catch the last 10 minutes of the England-Colombia World Cup match. Was just sitting at the bar and the place was not crowded at all, plenty of empty seats. Bartender tells me I can't stay unless I order a drink. There's literally 10 minutes left in the match and I'm not keeping someone else from the seat and costing them business. There's maybe 12 people in the whole bar. I'd think the least thing that a friendly tavern could offer is a one of their many spare seats for a short time during a big football match, but I guess not. Perhaps you live in Charlotte's Gateway area; you're pretty limited as far as walking-distance bar/pubs go, so CST makes sense given its location. Maybe you're feeling a little lonely, in which case you can enjoy a moderately-priced cocktail at the always-packed-but-never-crowded singles bar. You like to smoke, you say? The Tavern is your mecca: everyone there is smoking. I think I saw the Hostess smoking a cigarette mid-shift. The food's fine, but not exactly noteworthy. Decent wings and nachos; mediocre pizzas; passable salads--that sorta thing. Stay away from the entrees--there's just no reason. Again, though, nothing on the menu's gonna have you anxious to return. But if you're looking for a drink after work, this place is great. Plenty of indoor tables, a happening bar area, and even three or four umbrella-ed outdoor tables. There's also a projection screen TV and more than a few flat-screens if you're looking to snag an out-of-town game. The staff is friendly, the drinks are cold, the patrons nondescript. My experience at Cedar Street Tavern wasn't so memorable. I figured I'd give it a shot since I always see people outside hanging out on the high tops, and it looked like a cool place. It is a few blocks down from Tryon, so there is not much else going on around it. We ate inside at the bar and there were only a handful of people there other than us. We wanted to give the wings a shot, but they weren't very good, and the first bite had us wishing we had gone to Alexander Michael's instead. But, we were here and already committed, so we kept on. The kitchen was sooooo slow! We were waiting for our food for so long that we actually started making up our own lyrics to the songs playing about how long our food was taking to kill time, and that it did. My fiancee ordered a salad and I ordered the three cheese stuffed chicken over fettuccini alfredo, in other words, the heart-attack-on-a-plate, (although not the "oh my god, this is AMAZING!" kind.) I could barely make my way through half of it, partly because it was so heavy, but also because the cheese wasn't even fully melted and it was overall not so good. The one semi-cool part about the place is the way it is set up. They have an eclectic vibe going with bluish black walls painted with stick-figure type people that look like they are dancing, and the stars and shooting stars lit up all over the walls and ceilings brought me right back to the 90's when we all had those glow in the dark ones stuck to our bedroom ceilings. I would recommend trying this place for a drink on the weekends, but I'd eat elsewhere first. read more

After a wedding, my friend and I returned to our hotel pretty hungry. We asked at the front desk for anything nearby and the Cedar Street Grill was within walking distance. This is pretty much a bar, but it was nice and airy. There are high ceilings and isolated booths. This is kind of a neighborhood bar in an area you wouldn't expect. The crowd wasn't too rowdy but it seemed like a bunch of locals who knew each other. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night but it wasn't dead either. Many people were at the outside tables since it was such a nice night. They serve food pretty late into the night which is great. The menu consists mostly of bar food, but it was good. I had a turkey burger and it was good. It was nothing stellar but it was good. The service was good too. Our server was attentive and got us our food quickly.
