I noticed this little nail salon in the Riverbend strip mall by my home when I was on vacation. I am not sure whether it is a new business, or whether it had just escaped my view until I was on vacation. I had a bunch of family in town for Stampede, and they wanted to get pedicures, so I dropped in to see if they were set up to take four women at a time for pedicures. Lucky for us, they were! My aunt and cousins have NEVER had pedicures before, so this was an extremely big deal. My mom and I are seasoned veterens to esthetics. The girls there were extremely accommodating and I am certain, happy, because we were all adding services as we went. 3 out of the 4 of us ended up getting manicures as well, and two of us also got our eyebrows done while our nails were drying. We had an amazing few hours of being pampered, and we all felt good and looked good upon leaving. I can only speak for my pedicure, but the gal who did it was amazing. She was this tiny, petite beautiful vietnamese girl with hands of steel. She gave me the best foot massage ever after the pedi was done, and before she put my toe polish back on. Now that I know this little business is alive, I will continue to support it, because they gave top notch service, and as well, were extremely accommodating to four gaggling women. I absolutely love Kia and Amy ! I have been to Starlight for many years for pedicures (which are amazing - I used to teach the Pedicure Procedure as an Aesthetics Instructor and they did NOT miss a single step ) . I now see Kia for eyelash extensions, and have been seeing her for 4 years now. She is so careful, gentle and artistic with her application. I got them only once before at a different salon ( definitely NOT Starlight Nails ) - I swore I would never do it again because it burned so badly and looked soooooo artificial ... I have been here twice and it was a very bad experience both times. The staff is really nice and friendly, which is why I didn't give 1 star. I got a manicure when they first opened and my nails were in rough shape before having the manicure. I chewed my nails and my cuticles were all torn off and raw. Anyway, I thought a professional would know how to work around that. Instead, she took the cuticle trimmer on every single nail and every single finger was bleeding. Like, dripping blood. So that was a bad experience. I went in again to have my eyelashes tinted and it hurt really badly. Me and my sister both got them done and our eyes burned for a few hours after. Horrible horrible place. The lady who did my pedicure did a decent job, not great but not bad either, but compared to what kind of a manicure they gave me, the pedicure seemed out of this world! First of all the lady who came to do my manicure tried to get me to do shellac, which I didn't want because the last time I got shellac, they ruined my nails(i guess it was not done properly), also I live in a remote area where it is not easy to get them removed (I was in Calgary visiting). And after the 3rd time I said I was sure I didn't want shellac on my hands, I kid you not she finished my manicure in 5 minutes!! If I wanted such a pathetic manicure on my hands, I'd have given the job to a 5 year old, who could have managed a better job with some directions! read more

I went to this salon (just got home around 30 minutes ago) and I need to warn everyone to not ever go here. It was busy, disorganized and every employee was rude. I am currently working on a Better Business Bureau complaint and a complaint to Alberta Health Services. This is why: during my "Solar Gel" (which looks a lot like acrylic and I'm pretty sure it is) application, the side of finger was cut open with the nail file. I immediately got up and went over to the sink and dumped soap onto it... I came back and the nail technologist already moved onto another girl who had been waiting for a manicure.. Finally, after my nails were done.. I went to pay. I asked for a discount because I explained that I now could have an infection because that nail file was just pulled from a drawer and I didn't know if it was even sanitized et.c.. She didn't take off her mask for the entire conversation and also tried to convince be that it was a little nick and not a cut (it was bleeding for at least 5 minutes)... She said she couldn't give me any discount because she wasnt the manager.. So I asked for the manager's number and immediately called it after I left (I have no idea if that was the real number..) The bottom line is that they were very rude - absolutely no customer service - and very unhygienic. I now have a risk for an infection and am extremely unhappy. Also, the nails were very, very POORLY done.. as you can see in my pictures. PLEASE AVOID!!! Don't go through what I did!!! read more

It was my first time visiting them yesterday, and the place was clean, bright and friendly. Love the little poster on the back wall as inspiration. The current price is only $35 for pedicure.They did a great job on my pedi and the hot stone massage was a nice touch. They are back open--using COVID safety methods for their staff and guests. April 6th /18 I called on April 5th to book an appointment and asked the price of a male pedicure. I was told $30.00. I have had a back problem so since it was around the coroner I took them up even though I thought it was a bit much. I got to the shop and Rachael was the young girl that was doing my pedicure. Very pleasant and spoke excellent English. Her service was excellent. When I went to pay she told me it was $35.00 and I questioned that since I was quoted only $30.00 and the pricing board says $30.00. She then explained that men were $35.00. I told her that did not make sense since I have no polish or coatings I only have my nails cu and she told me that is what the manager told her. I asked speak to the manager and from another room she I presume spoke to Rachael in Chinese and would not come out. Embarrassed Rachael apologized and said she had to charge me $35.00 . Do not come here. I walked in for a quick nail polish change (10.00) right off the bat the lady was unfriendly and rude. The polish job ended up with little bubbles and I was not impressed. She was going to wipe off and start over but i didn't have time to stay. So i suggested another top coat and we can call it even, and i would not pay. She didn't really say anything back to me but put on the top coat. the extra thick layer of top coat went on and it was still showing bubbles but it was manageable for a few days only. I was okay to leave like this and get it fixed in a couple of days... but when i went to leave she said i owed 10.50. I said she could either take the polish off and i go not coming back as a customer OR leave it as is and i will take it as a one off error and come back for another try. She furiously wiped off the polish. i left with little bits of black nail polish over my skin and under my nails. I wasted 45 min of my Friday night for that.... ??? she would rather have me leave super upset then let me go as is. Reminder that this was a 10.00 nail polish change. Furthermore, the place was filthy her hands and nails were dirty and dry. It was an overall a very unpleasant experience. I am clearly not going back and i would suggest you stay clear of this place too. They should have let me walk out instead they get this review. read more

I love this little salon! They give one of the best pedicures in Calgary. The salon is VERY clean and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I was one of the last clients of the evening and watched as the salon was scrubbed from top to bottom in preparation for the next day. I would highly recommend going here. read more

I stopped in here without an appointment on a Thursday at 11:00 am. To my surprise it was really busy so I didn't expect them to say yes... But they did and I only waited 5 minutes without making other people get left "soaking". Quincy was amazing. Best. Pedicure. Ever. This was my first time at this establishment and it will be my last. I just had a manicure and They were very rushed even though I made an appointment. They seemed a little too concerned about taking care of the walk ins that didn't have appointments. The tech who did my nails cut me twice and rushed through polishing my nails so they came out bumpy and the entire nail was not all painted. They seemed more concerned about quantity than quality which is extremely disappointing. read more

WORST NAIL PLACE EVER. I went to the nail salon yesterday and before I sat down I showed them a picture of what I wanted. I asked them twice if they can do it- they said yes. we can do it no problem. I notice that when she was almost done that it looked NOTHING - NOT EVEN CLOSE to the picture. So I spoke up and said to her "Is this what it is going to look like?" She said yes,- we don't have the right color to be able to do what you want. WHY THE HELL would you tell me you can do something if you can't? Shouldn't you check and make sure that you have what you need before you say yes? I would respect this place so much more if they seem something and said- " sorry but we don't have the talent or skills to do something. not this yes yes yes bullshit all the time. This place is money hungry. They will rush and half ass to everything just to make money. They don't care about customer service and making sure the customer is happy and gets what they want. They had the nerve to f*** up my nails and still charge me full price. No discount of anything. I was there for 2 hours and she had the nerve to get mad at me because they were about to close. WELL - maybe if you knew what the hell you were doing - it wouldn't take so long. I will NEVER go back to this place again. They have no class and clearly no skills. read more

I have been coming to this little spa for many years. The service is generally good. Today was horrid. I appreciate that they take walk ins... but if you don't have time, be honest! I'd rather be asked to return in 30 mins, or the next day than be rushed through my pedicure. Because they had over booked, my daughter and I were pushed in to the entry way for our polish to dry! l loved walking barefoot on a dirty floor to sit in a cold breeze, it was super. Just the thing to add a nice relaxing touch to what should be a great treat. I dont think we will bother going back. I'm that disappinted. read more

I went to have a mani pedi right before an overseas holiday, and was told by "Tom" that I should consider paying the extra $30 to have a gel colour... "because it will last for so much longer and you won't have to worry about it on your holiday!" He was so enthusiastic about it that I spent the extra $30, for a total of $75 to have gel (shellac...same difference). The next day, I noticed my middle nail colour came clean off. So I went back and they re-did it for me, which was a huge nuisance since I was on my way to the airport for a very long flight. But nice of them to accommodate me I guess. Then during my flight later that day, I noticed another nail came off. Then another...and another... well, by the time I got to my destination, all but 3 nails still had colour! And one of my toes lost the colour as well. Two weeks later, when I returned to have this corrected upon returning from my vacation (after being SUPER annoyed during my holiday since I wanted to have colour on fingers and toes for my vacation), they told me to come in the following day and they'd restore the colour. When I went in, they gave me the run-around and said they would only add colour to my finger nails. I told them I had paid $75 for a service they did a crappy job providing, and that they were lucky I wasn't demanding my $75 back. They laughed and said that they were "willing" to give me colour only and no cuticle work, or nail cutting would be done. I told them "that's not a full mani pedi and if I wanted to, I could ask them to do the whole thing, INCLUDING shellac." They said no and kept talking to one another in tagalog, which I thought was rude as it was clear to me that they were saying things they wouldn't have said to me in english, because I would have found them offensive. In the end, I would NEVER choose to go to this salon again. The service was terrible and they don't fix their wrongs. All they had to do to "satisfy the customer" was give me a basic mani-pedi, which was a LOT less than what I could have asked for given their initial service failed. I would NEVER recommend going to this salon. It is TERRIBLE. read more

I was looking forward to my manicure here due to recommendations from friends, and reviews on here. My technician was very friendly and efficient, and the salon seemed clean and sanitary. She did a nice job of my cuticles, and shaped my nails well. My shellac however was dull - very uneven shine, with some nails being completely dull and almost matte looking. There were a few rough spots on the ends of my nails, and within a day, those areas began to chip. I think the technician was in a rush and so perhaps I didn't get quite the level of service I would have otherwise. My advice is do not take the last appointment of the day! I'm on day three of this manicure and I will likely remove it tonight and re-do myself. read more

I took my Mum here for her first mani...two days before my wedding. Her french polish chipped hours later even though she was being extra careful. The employees seemed very frustrated that we didn't know exactly what we wanted (they were not busy or anything, otherwise I would have understood). I will not go back here unfortunately. read more

I would not recommend going here. Halfway through my manicure, they switched technicians. At first it was a fairly kind woman, perhaps her client showed up, so a man stepped in. Without introducing himself, he just started filing my nails. His hands were dirty (under his nails were black) and he smelled of smoke. It was very unpleasant. Once he was done filing my nails on my left hand, he looked at my right hand and was surprised that my nails were filed rounded by the first technician. I told him she had already filed them as round but since he had already done the one hand as square, he could do so with the other hand. At that point the first technician rolled her eyes at me and said that I changed my mind when I hadn't and was just uncomfortable and didn't want to correct him. When my friend and I were ready to pay, he was with another client and was the only one in the spa. Without bothering to wash his hands he took my payment (with shaving of the other clients nails all over his hands) and then proceeded to go back to his client. Due to his lack of hygiene, I will never go back and left feeling dirty. Please go elsewhere as I wish I had. read more

BAD SERVICE! I went here with a couple of my friends, and we had an appointment. We were choosing nail polish and made us sit down before when had officially decided on a color. Two of the workers started working on my two friends while I waited for the other lady to finish with another customer. She finally finish 30 minutes later and at the time a customer walked in that had an appoint 3 hours from now. The customer insisted on being served, so the lady asked me if she can help her. What was I to say. Anyway to get to the point I had to wait an HOUR before they actually started working on my feet. My friends were finished way before me and had to wait. It was a very bad experience and I will NEVER go there again. I woulnt of even paid 10.00 for that service. I didn't even get an appology. read more

I went into the salon to check the price of a Mani-Pedi, I was told it was on special for $40, great deal so I booked for later that day. I arrived for my appointment told them I wanted a French manicure for both hands and feet, no problem. The young Vietnamese boy who did my pedicure was a bit rough, I have had many pedicures and my feet are not sensitive, my most recent one was only 3 weeks ago so my feet were not overly calloused. This did not stop him from attacking them with the razor and cutting my cuticles so close that my big toe is still red after 3 days. I had a different person paint the toes and the young boy went to another client, he ended up slicing her foot open with the razor and the everyone was running around trying to fix it. I also found it extremely irritating that the technicians were chattering to each other continually in their own language, none of the clients there were Vietnamese. When I went to pay for my treatment I was told that it came to $84.00 including tax! Apparently there was a $20.00 premium for both the hands and the feet for the French Manicure, it would have been nice to know this at the start. Will not go back to this salon, there are plenty of alternatives in this neighbourhood so as much as I like to support my local community, it will not be here. read more

Unsanitary! I have been going to this place to have my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. I have gone three times the first time was a positive experience but it gets worse every time. The second time I went the lady blew on the wax, (in her defence she was trying not to burn my face). My most recent visit not only did she blow on the wax she blew right in my face. It was unpleasant and unsanitary and quite pricey. before I moved to Calgary I paid $12.00 which included tax and tip at Starlight nails its 17.75 including tax and tip. I cannot speak for the manicure and pedicure part but as for the waxing find somewhere else to go. read more

I took a chance on this place as my usual spot was completely booked. I had an appointment for 2 people booked, and when we arrived, all of their pedi chairs were full. I wasn't impressed that we had to wait for 15 mins. I appreciate they take walk-in, but they should keep a closer eye on the clock and their appointment book. When we finally got seated, they got started on my niece right away. One gal started on my feet, and then she passed me off to someone else after what seemed to be a heated debate in a foreign language between three of them. Once we were underway again, it progressed okay. My niece tried several times to make conversation with her gal who ignored her and seemed more interested in chatting with her co-workers - again in a foreign language. After we were finished and waiting for our nails to dry, they all ignored us and waited for us to pay. Needless to say, even though they offer lower cost pedis, I don't think it was worth it. BEWARE!!!!!!!! I too got a nail infection after they failed to disinfect their tools between clients. When i went back to the salon to have my gel nails removed after developing a fungal infection the male that works there assured me that the discoloration ( Green under the gel nail) happens " all the time, i just shave it off and it disappears" and that it was nothing to worry about. When i went to have my nails removed i was seated in the chair immediately after another client and had the same tools used on me which were immediately placed in the drawer and then pulled out and used on my nails. This unsanitary practice was pointed out to them which they dismissed and laughed off. When i voiced my concern with the fungus growing under my nail the staff argued with me through out the removal procedure, laughed and told me that this happens all the time. this shouldnt be happening at all!!!!! read more

I live in the neighborhood so I decided to take advantage of their $40 Mani/Pedi deal. The fellow (yes, a young Vietnamese lad!) gave me the best pedicure I ever had. Great massaging and my toenails looked great. He painted them teal blue with lovely white flowers on the toes. I got the pedi over a month ago and am only now ready to call for another one. And I still get comments on the artwork. The young lady that did my nails did a super job. I upgraded to a shellac mani but I work so much with my hands (gardening, painting, etc.) it lasted less than a week. But I love this little neighborhood spa. read more

I had a horrible experience here tonight. I went in for a mani (shellac) - pedi and I left with only a pedi. The shellac manicure was horrible. Clumpy and missing on the side of two of my nails. When I expressed my concern the lady was clearly annoyed. I understand she must have had a long day, but customer satisfaction should be considered. She very roughly removed the shellac using acetone and fastly spoke to another lady in Chinese. It was extremely rude. I had been in the salon for an hour and had to get home, so I was even polite enough to say she didn't have to end off with applying a coat of polish. She went on to yell at me in front of other customers. I was mortified. If you'd like some respect I strongly suggest you go elsewhere. read more

My sister and I both booked a pedi/mani. Everything was going great, we had good service until some walk-ins came in. My sister was abandoned from her booked appointment for a walk - in? We started at 4:30, I was done at 5:30 and she was not completed until 6:45. Because we were going on vacation we spent an extra $20.00 each to have a gel coat applied to our nails. Amy said she would guarantee that our polish would last for 2 weeks if not she would redo it. Well it does not last 2 weeks it only lasted a few days. We went back to Amy and she would not honor their Guarantee. She was very, very rude! I asked for my money back, I asked for a manager. She was still very rude. She would not give back the money or give me a phone #. Then she proceeded to talk about us to her coworkers in Vietnamese while we were there. RUDE! I told her we know alot of people in the neighbourhood and would tell everyone not to go to Starlight Nails & Spa. So here it is save your $$ and go elsewhere. read more

Don't go here!!! They were quite friendly and even tried to invite themselves along on our honeymoon, but after the rough pedicure and the toe infection(most probably from dirty tools) we will never go back here. The price seems right, but it's just not worth it. read more

I went to this salon to get my nails done for my wedding, having seen good reviews. I brought a picture of what I wanted. I had two ladies work on my nails and one was, for the most part, lovely. The other one argued with me over every detail, refused to listen to me and made the experience a slice of hell. I have rarely been treated with such utter rudeness and disrespect. The other woman did a pretty design on my nails, I did not get what I wanted. Though she was far nicer, listening to me was still an issue. I left this establishment stressed and extremely frustrated. I would not go back. read more

This place was awful. I went in for the mani/pedi. It was really busy but they managed to squeeze me in...maybe that's why it was so awful. They did my pedi first and the guy that did it was so fast and rough that my feet were actually butchered. He took way too much dead skin off that I had gaping marks on the bottom of my feet that were painful. Throughout it he would ask sarcastically "that feel nice?". A girl came and did my mani....well I could've done better myself. She pushed back my cuticles but didn't trim them. My nail Polish was messy and chipped off within a couple hours. I got acrylics done here once and had a completely average experience, except not being told until we arrived that only cash was accepted on sundays, so i decided to return for a mani/pedi. The mani/pedi is listed for $35 and i asked for shellac on both my hands and feet and was charged an extra $15 for each, which seemed kind of over priced, but I went with it. I ended up being overcharged at the till and was told my total came to $73 and me not realizing until later that day thought that i was under charged and in turn gave a larger tip ending in me paying $80 just for a basic shellac mani/pedi which i admit is half my fault. But not only was I overcharged i also had the shellac nails begin chipping on two nails THE SAME DAY as i got them done. I'm am completely unimpressed with quality of their work shellac should never chip in less then 24 hours, ON TWO SEPARATE NAILS, I will not be returning. read more
