Some guy calls me one day talking to me about my energy bill and he knew everything about my bill without me mentioning anything to him. He tells me that the existing supplier is overcharging you and that he will make them pay me back whatever they were overcharging me and I said yes to him. That was it and the next bill I see different supplier and more expensive rates. THIS GUYS ARE SCAMMERS, STAY AWAY FROM STASION ENERGY and from ANY ESCO SUPPLIER. I called to cancel the account with them, and the cherry on top was that they wanted to charge me cancellation fee. STAY AWAY for your own good STAY AWAY. Misleadling salesperson identified herself as being from Eversource (my energy company) at the beginning of the call instead of saying she was from Starion. She made it seem like Eversource was going to switch me to Starion to lower my monthly rate. I feel foolish, because I should have realized that if she was actually from Eversource, she never would have asked me for some of the information I provided (like my account number, address, etc.) When I called Starion to cancel the contract I didn't even realize I'd signed up for, every person I spoke with made it seem like it must be my fault and that I must have misheard the person I was speaking with. I believe their sales script is specifically tailored and designed to trick people. Beyond saying that she was from Eversource when she was not, she told me to get out a copy of my bill, and then gave me very (very) specific directions to locate the place where my current rate was located. Good thing I used my asian-math-skillz to realize I would've saved $1.13 on my last bill. Yippee. As he was painfully explaining the details of my ComEd bill to me for about 10 minutes... I was thinking, why would he be calling to change my rate for something so small... Wouldn't ComEd just do it? So here is how it went down... Kevin: You can get price protection for a full year at the $0.01/KWH discounted price Me: Ok... so what do you need from me? Kevin: I need your Meter number on your bill. Me: Oh? ok... *read off number* Kevin: Now I need you to read off the account number in the top right of the bill Me: Wait... what? Aren't you from ComEd? You should have this information... Kevin: Well, we need the account to verify who you are. Me: Verify? You called me. You should have my information. Are you from ComEd?? Kevin: I am from Star Ion. We are a supplier that helps lower your electric bill. And to make sure we have the right person, I need your account number. Don't fall for this company. They are very misleading, lots of high pressure from their Reps. They will do what ever they can to keep you from canceling their service. I got a call from them the first rep didn't seal the deal with me. After my initial call with them, literally less than a minute later. A so called slick talking supervisor called me an offered me a deal I couldn't turn down. I fell for it! This happened on a Friday. I thought about it all weekend long. Something did not sit right with me. I did some checking online. Found out on the Better Business Bureaus website they scored a C, not good. It seems they prey on. low income families, elderly and disabled. I am low income and disabled so I was a target. In most compliant cases I read peoples bills doubled and or even tripled. billing issues, harassment, bad customer service.. I called them to cancel this service. The rep immediately went into combat mode. He didn't want me to cancel and offered me a fixed monthly rate for 12 months. threw me right into their confirmation process before I could even say yes. You get transferred to an automated confirmation line where you have to answer questions. You have to say yes to all the questions. the last question was. Your rate in the next 12 months is subject to change, there is a $7.95 monthly service fee and a $100 early termination fee. Which the rep did not mention to me. He broke threw on the line cause they Liston in. This time he was irritated with me.and tried to rebut everything I said. I canceled and hung up. Again less than a minute later I get a call back from them. I didn't answer the phone. they called back 2 more times in less than 5 minutes. Received a cold call from a very aggressive fast talking woman in a call center representing Starion Energy. Claimed PSE&G (NJ) had put a notice in my bill but customers did not read the bill and that is why she is calling. I could get savings on my PSE&G bill by switching. The notice is on each month's bill and is meant to be used for comparison shopping for a different electric supplier. I told her repeatedly that she did not have my permission to make any changes to my PSE&G account or my existing suppliers. I finally told her I was hanging up the phone and did so. When I asked the caller directly if he worked for NG, he tried to avoid the question. I repeated the question again and asked for a simple yes or no response, and he finally said no that he wasn't. But, this is a Scam... Their lower "rates" are variable and they also charge large fee's that are not mentioned in the "recorded verbal contract" that they ask about ten questions. Immediately this woman starts spewing out words so fast it was hard to keep up. From reading other posts, These people all follow the same approach - give the impression they're from your utility company(w/o exactly stating it) by saying it really really fast in hopes it'll trip up the receiving end and they won't catch on ..followed by , at least from my personal experience, the most officiously , rude attitude known to man. Within seconds of hearing her say something about supplier & lowering my bill, I asked if she was Coned or was she a supplier. I couldn't get a straight answer, so I answered for her "Basically , you're not ConEd . you're a supplier. trying to get me to switch to your services" ...she tried to tell me "no ma'am, you are wrong that's not why I was calling & if you had just given me a moment longer i would've finished explaining it to you So many customers think they have one bad experience with a ......" that's where I stopped her and asked if she could just skip ahead to the explaining part... which was ::surprise:: the hard sell tactic... "No thank you, have a good day" What followed next was so insane, I couldn't believe how quickly it escalated. I missed the first few moments, but started recording the conversation with my boyfriends phone (and I am going to send to ConEd , not like I expect them to do anything , but it may be helpful?) She was so quick to combat me, interrupt me, shout over me , and completely reject my reasonable inquiries. I was encouraged to sign up for service from them by Citizen's Oil Co-op. When I signed up, the utility's (Eversource) standard generation rate was 12.6 cents and Starion was 10.8 cents. That was for the first year. Now, Starion was going to renew me at 11.8 cents, while the utility rate is 8.2 cents. I called Starion to ask them about this, and first they would not talk with me until I gave them an account number (because they probably offer so many different rate scams), and even after I verified my account and asked them about how they are 3.6 cents more expensive per KWH than the utility, the response I got was to be placed on hold and then told "We can't discuss that with you, you'll have to ask the co-op you purchased it through". I'm usually wary of shady companies like this, but because I had a good experience with Citizen's Oil Co-op in the past, and they were endorsing Starion and encouraging switching to them (for some sort of revenue cut I'm sure), I went ahead and agreed to it. read more

I had to scream "NO" over, and over, and over again, to prevent them from signing me up. After literally waking up others in my home from saying "NO", the rep goes: "If you have no objections you will receive a letter in the mail indicating how you can cancel within 3 days if you don't like the service." I had to threaten them with a lawsuit and lie about being a lawyer just to prevent them from fraudulently signing me me. They didn't even say goodbye. A total scam. Woman calls and says she is calling on behalf of my electric distributor eversource. I say no thank you ten times and she keeps saying I "have to get this done" but can never tell me why. So she then has her manager jump on the line and he urges me to get my bill and provide my account information to him. I refused and said no thank you about 10 more times. Finally he starts saying well you're still on the line so you must want something, to which i replied repeatedly "l don't want anything, I am all set, you called me." Finally I just couldn't take it anymore and exploded on the guy because his technique was basically to keep up the hard sell until I hung up on him. Should have stopped right there but I was at work and only half listening. When the rep told me what I was currently paying and the new rate they were offering I said sure. When I got home to check my files, I realized they were going to charge me more than what I was currently paying with a different supplier. Signed up without investigating; price comparable for the 1st few months; this past month increased from .12 a kwh to .20 kwh. Called to inquirier told by rep that is what I signed up for... If there was a way to rate this company in the negative, I would give them 100 negative stars. I picked them as an energy supplier 2 or 3 years ago this past June and was locked in at a fixed rate. ( Starion says I've had them as a supplier 5 years though. My electric company tells me differently though also.) In February of 2014 without my knowledge I was changed from a fixed to a variable rate and my electric bill skyrocketed to triple the kilowatt per hour rate. They called me today and attempted to pressure me into enrolling in their program using the same tactics mentioned earlier. I almost fell for it because the woman said I would get forms in the mail and have three business days to cancel before they made the switch. Something didn't settle right. While on phone, I did a search and found BBB rating with 75% negative reviews, 25% positive. I told her that and the woman said, well no one ever writes reviews for positive experiences only negative. Also heard her supervisor in back, prompting her how to answer the questions. To which I scoffed--I've written more positive reviews than negative. And then I found the reviews here. So, I hung up the phone when they wanted me to answer the recorded verification questions. Within seconds, the supervisor called me back. Talk about pressure tactics! She insisted that they couldn't enroll me until three days after I receive their paperwork anyway, so why not start the process? I said, then I'm on the hook to cancel this within the three days or I will be enrolled? I want no part of this, I said. She then asked me when my husband would be home so she could talk to him!!!!!! I blew my fuse. I told her that my husband wouldn't be making the decision--I would be, "I assure you" is what I said. Then she said something I didn't catch and we both hung up. STAY AWAY! ANY company that pressures you into signing up for their product is no good. If they had so many happy customers, they wouldn't need to pressure me--they would send me info and let me decide for myself. Just got that call, fast talking rep requesting my JCP&l account number. He wanted that number pretty bad if he kept asking for it , and telling me where to find it on the bill. He quoted a rate charge of what JCP&L was charging, and they are an energy provider. Asked again for the account number. He was persistent like I had the bill in front of me ( I didn't), and he wanted that number, without me agreeing to anything yet. I asked for a call back number 800 600 3040 operator 7878. I requested what company? He stated Starion Energy. Fast talking and someone not thinking quick enough will easily fall for this trick. That account number is obviously the gold. These people call my cell phone up to 5 times per week. I have blocked the phone from answering but they continue to call day in and day out. I used them for a few months about 2 years ago when they had representaives going door to door, but my electric bill kept going up instead of down so I switched back to my original provider.
