an air conditioner outside of a house
    John S.

HLY RECOMMENDED SEE BELOW!! My central air unit died when we turned it on this year. We were hoping we could squeak another year out of it but apparently it decided to take the gold watch and fade into retirement. Everyone knows that dreaded "click... then nothing" moment and we were living it first hand. Knowing that it would be pretty hot the next week we decided to have it replaced. Apparently everyone else in the state of CT had the same idea! We called multiple companies and they were all at least a week out for an estimate (never mind the actual replacement which some said was as far out as 6 weeks). In a last ditch effort of skeptical desperation we sent Ron a message at 11pm that night as PlumbTec was the last contractor on my list. About 30 min later (wasn't expecting anything till the morning as it was Saturday evening) as I was heading to bed my watch dinged with a new message from Ron. We chatted for a bit and agreed that he would come out first thing Monday morning to take a look. Monday morning rolls around, Ron shows up on time and he does his thing with the initial inspection. That same day he comes back with an overall assessment of the system and multiple replacement options that take in price and quality considerations. Very well laid out, honest and to the point. He explained the differences in efficiencies and cost while at the same time was able to show the value behind a slightly more expensive system (IMO most people will simply say "X is more expensive but it does this" whereas Ron actually explained it down to the maintenance level). Needless to say we went with Ron because of his honesty, timeliness and cost. He ordered the parts the next day and we were off to the races that Friday. Here's where the "life happens" part comes into play. Everything is done. Ron has tested the system successfully, everyone's happy. Fast forward 5 hours and I notice that the temp is not cooling past a certain point. I text Ron that Friday evening and let him know what's up. HE LITERALLY CAME BACK OUT THAT NIGHT @ 8P TO TROUBLESHOOT! He stayed for a few hours to figure out the issue, realized that he couldn't get the part needed until Monday and let us know he'd be back first thing Monday morning to resolve it (which he did). Knowing that the upcoming week was predicted to be very hot he expedited everything. The communication throughout the entire process was spectacular. Nothings worse then not hearing from your contractor for long spans of time or learning about an issue too late. Ron went above and beyond multiple times to right a situation that no one had control over. Was PlumbTec the lowest quote I got? No, but they certainly weren't the highest either. I'm of the mindset that you get what you pay for and I feel that the value provided here greatly outweighs the cost of the service. The peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold! It's like when you find a good trustworthy car mechanic... once you do you keep that relationship alive and healthy at all costs LOL! I can honestly say that I feel like I have a trusted HVAC partner that I can call whenever I'm having an issue OR if I just need an opinion on something HVAC related. I'm always going to get an prompt, honest answer. The man takes pride in his work and it shows. Attention to detail is there as well. Those are hard character traits to find these days IMO.

Update: This company went from a great experience, to the worst experience. My secondary heat…read moresource went out during the winter and I called for a service checkup. After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.

The guy who answered the phone gave me the voice like he just woke up and or was stoned, didn't want to be bothered, was rude not helpful at all. Had these guys recommended to us to come unclog a kitchen drain. He asked to come early but still…read morearrived an hour late, started ripping apart the drain without a bucket to catch the water and then laying the nasty dirty pipes on our 6' long woven kitchen mat, rather than a blanket, a paper towel or even the tile floor. The snake did not work and actually got stuck for awhile but that's because the pipes were very bad & could not be unclogged as it was legitimately bad 70 yr old galvanized pipes completely corroded and blocked. So, after multiple methods & tries, I agreed that we needed to replace about 10' of old galvanized pipe with PVC and the basic older PVC drain components under the sink. Understandably, they could not come back until the following day since the scope of work had changed. The actual plumber (very nice guy, decent work, but VERY MESSY) scheduled his return for 8:30 the next day, and estimated 4 hrs of work for $1,100 + materials, tbd. As we were left without a kitchen sink, since he got us in for the next morning & was recommended by a friend and fellow plumber, I agreed to the high labor estimate, knowing it there was a chance that it could take more than 4 hrs and signed for the labor, while my wife spent 2 hrs that night cleaning our kitchen mat from drain grease. Next morning, I had to go to work so my wife took the day off. Midmorning, I'm getting texts from her asking for his number as no one had shown up and I had not heard anything. Again, over an hour late, but shows up and gets the job done in about 2.5 hrs. As he's leaving, he asks for almost $1,500. She says, ok, please just give me the break-down for the materials. He has to call the office, puts my wife on the phone with the brother who refuses to provide an itemized list of material costs. Plumber leaves, wife pays the agreed upon labor charge of $1,100 for 4 hrs that took 2.5, no questions asked. Wife says she will pay materials, even marked up materials, if she is given a breakdown (again, this was 10' of 2-1/2" PVC and a few fittings). Mind you, I'm an Executive Construction Project Manager for nearly 20 yrs. I receive an email with a list of random items, no prices, including boxes of rags, latex gloves, boxes of glue, etc. I tell wife to get a real breakdown before settling after already paying the inflated labor cost. My wife then receives a barrage of texts threatening escalation unless "agreed upon" material costs are not paid...but no materials were agreed upon and they refused to provide material details. I get out of work and start receiving the same texts...for hundreds of dollars of materials that they refuse to itemize. On top of that, the mess left was insane and I later found he left a 6" piece of old nasty piping in the wall that I had opened up for them, stinking up the bsmt, dripping old grease down the walls. Never again...talk about choosing their battles Talk about choosing your battles...and knowing when to stop arguing with customers.

"Be on guard" The company pursued me because I googled…read more"handyman". I booked a Monday and was told it was 99.00 to look, but credited back if you accept the quote. However, last minute on a Sunday, I received a call from a tech that he had one last opening as it was to snow Monday. It was not an emergency, just a broken toilet chain. I just could not reach the tiny piece left at the bottom or use, no rush, no leaks. I have two other bathrooms. Be ware, their $99 quote is NOT inclusive of PARTS!!! It would be $497.00 EXCLUDING his pick up of parts from Home Depot. NOT parts on the TRUCK as I was TOLD. (The booking was really via a call center). Then he had the nerve to say it was a SUNDAY EMERGENCY I never requested Sunday at all. It was my only day off to relax. Roto Rooter advertised 7 days per week and with snow coming on a Monday , I expected my Monday to be pushed to mid week not at 5 pm last minute for a Sunday. I disagreed rejected the high quote and his need to go Home Depot, his time and gas he whined about so I called my friend, as I felt bullied and intimidated because his voice and manner became louder and pushy. In addition, he did not remove dirty boots as I asked him to because my 18 stairs are carpeted in white. By this point it was almost 5 pm. My friend told him "she does not want a rebuilt toilet " which the tech said was all he would do. Raising his voice he began to yell once my friend ( a builder) said "she can buy a new toilet for that". This toilet was not the original-or OLD as he implied it was. The man blew up telling him "you're from Tennessee," prices are a lot less there. I just paid him the 99.00 to get rid of him while my friend was secretly still on speaker listening in. Finally, he left. I called my bank noting he had no date on the so called contract. It was left suspiciously blank. I was advised by my bank to stop payment and to call the police. What a mess. SINGLE WOMEN please AVOID, I fell into accepting a call, then rescheduled to a Sunday when I booked a Monday not from a local Roto Rooter at all . All because the company's name was familiar to me.

The plumber had no idea what the cost of the water heater would be over and above the labor. Don't they do this job everyday ? Ridiculous!
