I have such mixed feelings about this Starbucks. It's the most beautiful & unique Starbucks I've ever seen. The company moved the historic Hickman House (circa 1832) to this location. The entire shopping center is named for the house. It sits at an entrance to Hickman Plaza with the side of the historic building facing General Booth Boulevard near its intersection with Nimmo Parkway. The front of the Starbucks faces the shopping center with a drive through window in the back. The entrance is in a modern addition which was added after the house was moved. Upon entering, one is impressed with the size. There is an extra long counter to order in addition to seating and sales displays. The feel is one of spaciousness that isn't normally associated with a Starbucks. The entrance into the historic house is incorporated into the open floor plan. This section of the shop offers an even greater feel of spaciousness, reinforced by the layout that offers ample room between tables. A privacy feel exists for individuals who are enjoying coffee while working or in conversations with their companions. The wall is decorated with earlier pictures of the Hickman House and its move to the current location. I was thoroughly impressed, thus the 5 star rating. Cons: I'm a Historical Preservation, History & Genealogy buff. There were features that immediately bothered me as I walked into the shop. The replacement windows in the historic building were obviously 2020's windows rather than offering the look of 19th century windows. They definitely weren't chosen to preserve the vintage era of the house. Having driven past the house on its original site a few decades ago, I planned to do the same on this trip before learning of its move. I have friends from the Hickman Family & planned to photograph the house. Not being aware of its current state before the purchase & move, I have to add a caveat. If the house had fallen into a state of disrepair and this was the only way to save it, I would have applauded the move. I just wish the restoration had included more authenticity. That said, this is a fabulous Starbucks & one that ranks at the top of the list of Starbucks I've frequented. read more

I must admit this time instead of coffee, I was on a quest for Family History information. I started doing some research on The Hickman House, trying to figure out if my Ancestors once owned this home. Well, imagine my surprise when this coffee lover discovered this Historic House is now a Starbucks. The Hickman House was originally an Inn. In the 1860's it was owned by The Hickman Family until 2014 when a Developer had an idea to turn the house into a cafe and the surrounding area into a shopping center. Now after being moved a short distance to make room for the grocery store being built in the shopping center, The Hickman House is in The Hickman Place Shopping Center and is a nice new Starbucks with a drive through which not many Starbucks have in Virginia Beach according to the stories I have read. I'm not sure about that because I have seen quite a few in Virginia Beach with a drive through. After walking around outside, we went inside and were greeted by a very nice young girl. We asked if there was anything that explained the history of the house. She directed us to the seating area which is the Historic part of the building where the only thing about the house was 3 framed photos of the house on the homes brick wall. read more

This is the prettiest Starbucks. Bravo to Starbucks for saving this beautiful historical home Est. 1832 Hickman House. Such a nice seating area outside. Very fancy. We like the comfortable seating. You have options of sitting in the beautiful sunshine or under a nice blue umbrella for shade. Inside you get to see the beautiful original bricks. Love that they allow you to see all the original beauty of the Hickman House. There is a lot of different styles of seating inside. Friendly and helpful service. They are a very busy Starbucks too. They also have a drive through. I have always gotten pretty fast service too. I was having an issue with my app a couple of times . No problem they are so sweet to help me. That means a lot when people are so kind to lend a helping hand. And this is my Nieces favorite Starbucks too read more

I cannot express how thrilled I was to see the incredible investment that Starbucks poured into the 1832 Hickman Farm House. It's gorgeous! So one star without question for the awesome renovation. The store is located just off Nimmo on General Booth across from Strawbridge Shopping Center. I wish they had a larger lot, but unfortunately it's too small. They were able to sneak in a drive-thru with the addition on the old home. I do wish more effort was paid in the blending of the old and new. There is a small outdoor patio being used during my visit on a beautiful Fall day. The counter service was friendly and my toasted marshmallow latte was delivered quickly. The interior decor is darn cool with exposed brick to view the old. As well as old photos to view the house, even one showing it being moved. Furnishings are nice as well, however it's a pretty small space. I did see staff wiping down the tables, but unfortunately never sweeping floors that was needed for minor debris. Also trash needed addressed at one can. I'm a bit smitten with the homes renovation I admit it. 4 stars rounding up to a full 5 with Starbucks large investment in a house that's been vacant for years, but had killer bones. Yay! New Starbies with a drive-through for RedMill. It's large and gorgeous and in the new shopping center with Aqua S, First Watch, and other goodies. I know there has been some up and down about this historical home being turned into a Starbucks but, my take is that it's been sitting awkwardly on the corner at General Booth beside all the new construction and strip malls, waiting for someone to take it on. The truth is, it needed considerable work and Starbucks wanted it when no one else really wanted to sink the money in. They spent a lot of money and preserved the old brick and stone inside while carefully updating it just enough for a classy establishment. People should be happy a company with the funds to take on a project like this did so, otherwise it was going to be demolished, is my opinion. It had limited seating inside to be honest but a nice amount of patio tables outside as well as a busy drive-through. This is a nice addition as the nearby RedMill Commons Starbucks is so tiny it's always overworked. App and mobile orders are accepted here of course. 2 gender neutral restrooms and modern lighting with a large order counter and several baristas working. Great new addition to the area and a nice meeting place for coffee for work or with friends. I'm excited about this. read more

This Starbucks is located in the Hickman Place Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. It is connected to the historic Hickman House. You can get to this place by entering from General Booth Blvd. heading northbound where the Velocity Urgent Care is, or along Nimmo Parkway at the new traffic light. My first visit here was on December 13, 2021, and the most recent visit here was on December 18, 2021. This is definitely an upgrade compared to the other smaller location in Red Mill. You don't feel like you are packed like sardines in a can. As an added bonus, they have a drive through as well. Parking here is limited, especially during peak times. I'm sure more parking will come available as the shopping center as a whole continues to expand. On the outside, they have a small patio area where you can sit down and eat or drink when the weather is good to do so. When you come inside, the place definitely looks more spacious than the other location at Red Mill. There aren't many tables or booths in here for seating, but that may be due to them trying an attempt at social distancing maybe. On December 13th, my mom and I came in to get some hot drinks. I had a free drink that day for my birthday, so I wasn't going to let it go to waste. The staff were quick to ask if we had any questions about the menu and what we would like to get. I ended up getting a Venti Peppermint Mocha (hot). My mom got the Venti Toasted White Chocolate Mocha (hot). Due to the later time in the day, there were only a few others in there at the time. We had the drinks when we got home, and it was just as good as we have had at other locations in the past. A few days later on December 18th, I came back for a second visit. I had a coupon for a free bakery item. Just like the visit before, they were quick to ask if I had any questions about the menu. I did ask what items would count for the free bakery item. In the end, I went with a piece of the Banana Nut Loaf, warmed up and another Venti Peppermint Mocha (hot). I would have those when I got home, and the Banana Nut Loaf was still warm and soft too. I really liked that bakery item and would totally look to get that again in the future. Overall, there were great experiences with both visits. The staff were great to work with. With this place having more space and a drive through too, that makes this the new local Starbucks I will be coming back to in the future instead of the one over at Red Mill or Landstown Commons. It was definitely a homey feeling when I was in there. If you are in the area and looking for a Starbucks, you definitely need to check this place out. read more

Wife loves the 'bucks (and coffee too, hahaha -- ok don't tell her I said that). Son needed a clean, private place to change clothes while wifey wanted a coffee drink. Starbucks to the rescue. This place looks bougie, more like a real estate storefront thank coffee shop, from the outside. Inside, same menu people like my wife love. Staff was friendly; not a ton of in person traffic and orders were tad slow to come out. They do have a drive thru that stays steady. read more

For as much business as they get, this store is one of the most consistent, welcoming, and friendly Starbucks I have ever been too. We all know what Starbucks offers, but service can fluctuate a whole lot depending on the location. This team is great and always supplies their coffee and food with a great attitude and smile, even when the drive through line is packed. Props! read more

I cannot evaluate their drive through, but I thought I'd give this place another try after my first horrible experience. However, I continue to be disappointed. My first experience resulted in an almost half an hour wait for a beverage. My second try, I thought I'd order ahead and do a mobile order. I ordered about 5-10 minutes before arriving. Upon arriving, there was no drink. We waited a while, and even inquired about our drink, and finally they started on it. I thought I'd get a slice of lemon loaf, right when they were were handing me my drink, thinking it should be 5 seconds to hand me a slice, since they were defrosted and ready. However, to my dismay, instead of handing me a slice, they told me to wait at the other end. Literally, I'm in a rush, and they can't just hand me a slice. There was only one other customer inside the store and no one behind me in line and 5 people working. They filled 3 drive through orders, then started to grab my flipping slice of lemon bread after some minutes. I will say, it seems like they always fill every drive through order while ignoring people inside, so if drive through is your thing, then go for it. If you want to order inside, go to the Redmill location, or 2) make Keurig coffee at home and sip on it here in the empty indoor space while waiting for that second cup, but be prepared for a wait and do it on a morning with absolutely no plans. I honestly have never seen worse indoor waits at a coffee establishment. If I have this kind of time to wait for coffee, I'll check out the 2 coffee places down by courthouse, and enjoy a better atmosphere. read more
