I've always preferred my own coffee, drinking it for hours all morning since I retired. My favorite blend, which I get on line, is not something I want to change. So it had been years since I've frequented a Starbucks. While my son has been here visiting, I've gone out for his preferred breakfast. He's working remotely on an intense project. So I've wanted to spoil him. What a surprise it was when I found out Starbucks had breakfast items! Am I the only person in the 21st century who didn't know? This Starbucks on Independence Boulevard is in a small outparcel shopping strip at Haygood Shopping Center. The other spaces in the strip are vacant. There's an entrance directly into it if you're headed south on Independence. To get to the drive through you have to loop around and enter from the back side. It's more complicated coming from the south and I would have to recreate that route to describe. One of my son's favorites is Egg White & Roasted Red Pepper Bites, which were on the Starbucks menu. This everything digital lover immediately set up the App & placed the order on my phone. The App worked great, even sending me a notification when the order was ready for pickup. I headed to the store, went through the drive through & was home ready to offer my son breakfast by the time he was finished with his current meeting. I'm happy to learn that the Starbucks menu features more than just the pastries & sweets offered when I frequented the chain decades ago. It's your typical Starbucks, nothing new. Customer service is good, nothing exceptional to scream about. I'm glad it's here, always nice to have access to coffee. Usual Starbucks fair here. 2 Stars bc for some reason the drive-thru service is extremely slow at this location. Doesn't matter the time of day; early morning, mid-afternoon, evening..... Always super slow. Expect to be waiting in line a minimum of 25 min every time. I placed my order while sitting in the drive thru line and still had to wait at the window. Matcha latte was very lackluster. Didn't have much matcha in it. I accidentally ordered a tall and wanted a venti - but when I went to switch it I could only get a refund and then get charged separately for the new coffee. Not a big deal. I probably would've said yes had the barista not been ordering around the cashier so much. She kept interrupting him trying to help me, so I just stuck with the tall and left. It was very irritating. I had the kindest barista ever today!! I waited for like 60 seconds and he was so grateful that I was patient about it and even gave me an extra drink they had accidentally made. I had just had an unpleasant experience with a random road rage driver to the point that I was weeping about the cruelty of the world 20 minutes prior to this. 9:30 AM. Ordered a Dark Roast pour. Appears staff was under by one. Waited inside for someone to take order, ordered a Dark roast pur as did the gentleman in front of me. Took order, prompted for Tip, then wait for lineup on barrister rather than simple pour. Compounding poor experience the barrister looked at both orders (dark roast) then proceeded to pour medium Pike as Dark was being refilled. Did not bother to ask or call out the change. This is on way out of VB so with a 7 hour drive ahead I cut the loss, took the coffee and left. I did advise the other older gentleman as he was clearly a regular buy he had some language barriers and also took what they unilaterally decided to provide. If this was the barristers order, I am sure she would have poured what she ordered. No regard for customer. read more

Alright, I strayed from my normal craft coffee exploits in favor of this 'bucks (my wife's favorite java) to kick off our anniversary celebration. Shoot, despite my disdain for what I think is their burned coffee, if it keeps her awake "for later," I'll buy stock in the place. Anyway, they have a semi-odd drive thru entrance behind the neighboring mattress store that empties into the oddly narrow shared parking lot. The store front is adequately lit with a few outdoor tables. It's on a busy street but we never felt unsafe. Inside, it was clean with festive Christmas/holiday colored garb and swag for purchase (mugs, bags of coffee, etc). This is highlighted with their digital menu signage; I'm no Luddite but I like analog menus that let me see all menu options quickly at a glance. Having TV menus pressures me when people are waiting behind me; fortunately, no one else was ordering in store to observe my lack of Starbucks knowledge. I settled on a gingerbread latte with nonfat milk and my wife chose her staple caramel macchiato. Our 2 grande drinks were $11, par for the Starbucks course, served 5 min later in disposable corporate branded holiday cups. The barista asked me if I wanted nutmeg which was nice but only the 2nd time she talked to us; first was when I asked for Christmas blonde and she said "we don't have that" (see the now brewing sign). Drinks were made correctly but I was seriously underwhelmed with my bev quality. No ginger just overly sweet artificial flavoring. Dining area offers WiFi with plenty of seating, although one customer occupied 3 of the comfy leather seats my wife was eyeing: 1 for him, 1 for his laptop and 1 for his laptop bag. I pulled a Will Smith in Men In Black when I loudly slid 2 displaced comfy seats closer together for me and my Mrs, floor screech and all. Don't worry, no one was sitting in them. While there (people watching, don't judge us), a VB policeman came for coffee and chatted with the lady baristas for a while. Also noticed several non-patrons coming to use the restroom but they weren't hassled. I observed the bathrooms to be clean and well stocked. read more

So annoyed with the manager at this Starbucks today. She was incredibly rude to me and she scolded a fellow employee in front of me, making a face as if the employee was completely incompetent. I ordered a drink on my app and the app switched my location back to my preferred store when I edited my drink order. So I realize that when I saw my drink wasn't ready on the counter right when I walked in. I explained what happened and asked if they could just make my order there.. the manager says that I have to cancel my other order. I go on my app and can't figure out how to cancel the order I had placed and already paid for. I called the location that made my drink and told them what happened. That stores manager said that Starbucks policy when that happens is that they look at the app and see your order and payment, then just make the drink at the store you are currently at. I go back in this store and tell them my order, the cashier puts it in.. then asks the manager what she does for the payment so I don't have to repay. The manager comes over, questions the cashiers intelligence and then shews her away, steps in and tells me that she isn't going to make my drink at her store without having my order placed at her store. Then she states that they don't have extra inventory like that to just fix my mistake. She was rude as hell and I'm pissed about it. I can't believe that she wouldn't just make my drink there. I know there are codes that can be used for things like this in order to avoid inventory shortage. She is a miserable person and miserable people don't need to be working around the public. Keep your misery at home lady. I had to spend an hour for a Frappuccino craving when I literally had 5 min to spare. Now my whole day and schedule is hectic af. I couldn't be more upset that this manager existed in my day. And lastly, Starbucks is sincerely over priced and expensive af! If you are an employee with this company, please understand that your customers are treating themselves and your job is to make that treat delicious in every way. I spent a few hours at this location last week while I waited for some seriously bad Naval base traffic to subside. Nice, spacious location with tons of merchandise if you're in need of that. Standard menu items - except they were out of the dried cranberries for my oatmeal (so that sucked). They have free wi-fi which I used to play some games and read some articles while I waited and a spacious sitting area inside. Staff were friendly enough and it sure beat sitting in base traffic! She made me feel like an actual person by the way she showed she cared about the situation. I can't thank her enough for her help. I had to make a review so that she could get the recognition she deserves. I tried a new drink for the first time today too and my drink was made to perfection and my sandwich was super satisfying as well. Merry Belated Christmas everyone. I treated my mom to Starbucks yesterday with two $10 gift cards, ordering a Venti Caffé Mocha, a Hot Chocolate, a Bacon, Egg & Gouda Breakfast Sandwich as well as a Bacon, Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Wrap. We got there and it was all chill with people waiting on their online orders, so barely anyone was sitting down at the tables and stuff, and I grab our stuff that I ordered on the Rewards app on my phone and I tasted the Hot Chocolate. I was appalled. Imagine this: Plain, un-sweetened cocoa powder with straight water mixed together. That is what the Hot Chocolate tasted like. Mind you, this was one that was local down the street from my house that my uncle and I went to last year during the holiday season and nothing was wrong with the Hot Chocolate I ordered last time. Cashier looks awkward for don't know what reason. I asked for less sweet for my Java chips frapp, she didn't reply or ask if I want less pump of syrup like other Starbucks workers. As an outcome it taste sweeter than the regular ones I had in other locations. Can't taste any coffee but syrup. After being asked if I want whipped cream they laughed for something and I hope it's not my request, even though I don't know what's funny cuz I have been asking for less sweet for all of my drinks everywhere. I've ordered on the app several times, and every time, no matter the time of day, my order is always ready when I get there. I've never tried to go through the drive through, since it's always packed, but I assume it's packed for a good reason. This is exactly the sort of Starbucks that I should detest. Strip mall stuff with a lovely outside seating view of a major urban roadway. Matty knows coffee and customer service! If you squint really tightly, you can make out some vibe in the inside seating area, so all is not lost. For some reason, I could easily see curling up in one of the chairs here during one of those January snowstorms for which Virginia Beach is famous. Sipping hot Dark Roast, watching the snow plows carve out a pathway amidst the six foot drifts. Wait, that was Fargo. Ok, well then...if you could magically transport this Starbucks (and Matty) to Fargo, ND, then I'm certain that it would be the ideal curl up for a winter storm day. Breeden here a few times and had a fair experience. The first time the staff were cleaning and we're kind enough to walk my order to me to prevent me from slipping. That way I didn't walk in there and not slide around. This location is really convenient for me. It is right in between two of my offices so I always pick something up when I have to go between the two. The staff is usually pretty good. They are nice enough, but I have never had one make an impression for being outstanding. Check your order before walking out or driving off. I mean it, take a sip. They have messed up my order a few times and it is a pain trying to get back in the parking lot after you have started to drive off. Overall, it is just another starbucks with a tricky parking lot. Umm this is the best Starbucks I've ever been to, the woman while I was ordering never cut me off with "is that it??" Just kept saying "okay what else can I get for you?" Like seriously so patient and nice, I did have a big order, and then the guy at the window informed me they made the one drink wrong, gave me the wrong one and for free but also the correct drink, and I also got some breakfast sandwiches and a lemon pound cake and he let me know he tried to insulate it with some extra napkins so it didn't get all melty. Came here today to grab a drink while studying for my NCLEX. It's a pretty busy Starbucks including the drive-thru. It wasn't crowded at all, and ordering was easy. There isn't a ton of seating, but they also have a small patio outside. My drink was promptly made, and they even gave me a venti instead of a grande. The staff was wonderful! The only downside to this location is that their line for ordering doesn't make sense. Like you walk in as the same side as you leave and pick up your drink from.
