Unfortunately this Starbucks location consistently misses the mark and every visit is a reminder of why I don't buy Starbucks stock. The space itself feels neglected. Tables that haven't been wiped down, trash cans overflowing during peak hours, and a general sense that no one's really in charge. For a brand that charges premium prices, the experience should at least feel premium. I keep coming back out of sheer convenience, as it could be a great option for commuters, which is exactly what they're counting on. But convenience only carries so much weight when you're consistently waiting 8-9+ minutes for an iced coffee, to the point of nearly missing your train. read more

Located at the base of the South Orange NJ Transit station are several businesses including this Starbucks location. Walk too fast and you'll miss it. It's tucked into a corner instead of the larger row of businesses. When you enter there are some tables right in the front with the counter to order towards the back. Honestly? By New Jersey standards this may not be the largest Starbucks out there but if you've gone to many in New York City I'd call this one average sized. It was clean and organized and that matters to me more. My order was taken quickly and I hung out in the back to wait for my order. It was around 9am on a weekday morning and my drink and food were ready within ten minutes so I was impressed. My Chai Latte was good. Starbucks really varies from location to location. I would rate this latte at a "B". I ordered the pesto breakfast sandwich and it was really tasty! I imagine this place must get crazy busy at times being right at the base of a train station. Been a here a number of times over the years and I guess I never reviewed it. This Starbucks has been here a very long time and takes a beating with the number of customers it gets. The problem is it really shows. I know the baristas are busy, but the place just looks messy compared to a lot of other Starbucks locations. I'd think maybe they could designate at least one of the team to quickly do a floor sweep or something. The decor here also looks a bit worn out. Even in the middle of the day on a weekday there was like 10 people in line, so I get it. The Baristas were alright considering how busy it was, but it also looked like they are having bit too much fun. I saw a couple them stop and crack jokes with each other. That's fine, but thin the line first. Lastly, they were out of a few things my friend was trying to get. I get that too, but maybe they should put a line on things they're out of or maybe a sign. The only thing good about this visit is they got my order right. I get it that most Starbucks gets busy but if I am a customer and you don't want to make what I ask for then I have a problem with that. I asked for a traveler and 2 additional drinks to bring to the office I had an appointment for. What can I say about this Starbucks..... For starters they're always behind. My husband orders from the app and gives them enough time to prepare our order and he still waits a while when he arrives. They're always short staff. They never have many of the items online. What annoys me the most is that my caramel macchiato is never full. They always fill my coffee halfway. Was extremely disappointed in the level of service and the manner in which I was treated in Starbucks on Saturday. First instance I stood at counter for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me while they attended to other duties behind counter. I purchase a mocha Frappuccino which I did not like. I proceeded to rejoin line and purchase a Carmel Ribbon Frappuccino instead. I waited almost 15mins as other individuals orders were completed. Ask two times when my drink will be complete response my drink is up next. The order was never completed then a batista member point to a drink that look like a iced coffee saying that is what I ordered and if I wanted whip cream I needed to ask for it. That takes dedication and shows they are passionate about what they do. I ordered a flat white this morning and Joe made it perfectly to the Starbucks standard. I can honestly say when I see these particular baristas (Michelle and Joe) that I receive the Starbucks promise, service with a genuine smile and they deserve recognition from not only their store manager but their district manager as well. This is my second consecutive visit and I thought time to leave a review. This starbucks is slightly quicker than what I'm used too. Definitely happy at the fact that there is more than the usual 3 baristas you may find elsewhere. This morning, there were at least 5 on duty, making things efficient. Everyone was very kind making it quite the pleasant visit. There is out door meter parking but it gets filled quickly. My ONLY complaint thus far are the flies....be aware there are A LOT of flies inside. I think that's a little unhealthy so definitelybe careful if your dining in with food and/or drinks. I've done the whole working at Starbucks thing at this location. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes I regret ever trying to work there. It[s a busy Starbucks since it is located right under the train platform. So every time a train is due to roll into the station, a hoard of people head into the coffee shop. When the train leaves, another hoard storm through the store to order their Café Americanos. During the afternoon commute hours, these riders are ravenous for White Chocolate Mochas and are often shout-talking into their cell phones... and I'm crying on the inside, unable to focus on whatever work I'm doing. The best time to go here would be early Sunday morning. It wouldn't be too packed and it's quiet and chill. With less customers there, the drinks come out better for sure. Also you'll more likely be able to get a seat at this time. Mind you, seats are a hot commodity here (especially one by an outlet), so when you see one available, grab it fast! read more

Most of the staff makes an effort. There is this really huge light skinned African American woman, who may be a shift manager, who is as rude as can be. She once gave me a wet lid and when I protested she informed me 'Well my hands are wet'....'SAYWHAT' For whatever reason they also have lots of sales on bulk coffee..got an amazing dark roast 2 4 1...Luved that! One of the worst Starbucks. Always a wait, never seem to have their stuff together. Today was the last straw. Waited two min to order - only one customer in front of me, who had already paid. Just standing there chit chatting about bs and holding up the line - at a Starbucks. If I wanted to wait behind a casual chat, I'd go to the local coffee shop and chill. Come here for the advertised quick service, which is non-existent in South Orange. The barista had also vanished so had to wait another few minutes to even see a drink made. Then the two drink orders behind me came out first. I had an insanely complicated soy cappuccino, so obviously this required 7 minutes to make and the barista needed to consult a drink manual. Excellent customer service every time I come as well as very clean around the store and bathrooms. The employee at the register asked me to charge my card and told me I was all set then pulled me back and said oops nope you're not all set you owe $4. This is a pretty standard Starbucks. It's newly renovated with more seating and looks so much more modern. I was a little disappointed that they went from two coffee stations to one, it causes traffic jams with everyone trying to furnish their coffee. For the most part, the staff is friendly and attentive. I did have to ask one employee to put on gloves as he moved from the register to heating up my sandwich, he complied with no issue. But it is food service, not something you should forget. DO NOT go to this location on Friday afternoons. The middle school kids swarm this location and make it unbearable. Let me start with saying that the staff are great! The Wi-Fi is consistent and even though the drinks can take a while, my chai tea latte is usually made to perfection. This Starbucks is always clean and the music is creates a chill atmosphere. Unfortunately, I have to deduct two stars. Reason 1: The lines can get incredibly long. They are so long that the people often walk in, see the line, and leave. That being said, my drinks are always made to perfection. Reason 2: This location is often overrun with teenagers. Not a problem on most days, most of the teenagers I've seen have been annoying at most, but on my most recent visit, they were quite disruptive and ghetto and didn't buy anything!!! Their only purpose was to take up space and ruin the atmosphere. A father with his young daughter had to ask them to have some respect as they were cursing and carrying on in front of his young daughter. Does the staff not hear the excessive cursing and bantering? Have they been trained to ignore it not matter how vulgar? I don't expect it to be a library but it should be a place where a parent should feel comfortable bringing his young child while he enjoys a PSL and his daughter enjoys her apple juice while keeping busy on a tablet. If I am going to pay $5 dollars for a drink made to perfection as they always are, shouldn't I at least be able enjoy it in peace? Is that asking too much? This is my regular Starbucks. I am there most mornings during the week. They know what their regulars want and the order is on its way the minute they see you walk in the door.
