Unfortunately the customer service wasn't great, my drink was made poorly considering it was a standard white chocolate mocha it tasted bad. I had probably the worst customer service experience ever at this Starbucks store. Needless to say, I will not be returning and will go to other coffee stores instead. I have been buying Verona whole bean coffee for many years and 50% of the time it is not on the racks. I learned early on to look in the cabinet below the racks for it rather than running to another store. No barista ever had a problem with me checking the lower cabinet, if anything it helped them and they retained a purchase. This time the barista admonished me loudly in front of a bunch of customers. She said "when you are a guest you don't go looking in other peoples closets." She treated me like a 5 year old child in front of a lot of people. I reported this to Starbucks Customer Service but I doubt anything will happen. I'm definitely done with this store and may even start just buying Peet's instead. I can get a 2 pound bag of Major Dickenson at Costco for half the price of Starbucks Verona ... and, they always have it in stock! read more

I just want to express my gratitude for good, old fashioned, customer service. Today, at the Somerville Starbucks (711-723 Somerville Ave) an employee named Mark took my order. He greeted me with a smile and asked me how I was before asking for my order. His warmth reminded me of an independently owned cafe, rather than a corporate chain. This Starbucks location is very convenient but make sure to give yourself 20 minutes extra time beyond what you are used to waiting. Some of the staff are what you will see at other locations. They are welcoming, pay attention to your order, etc. I have consistently gotten the wrong order but only when I've been waiting for the staff behind the counter to finish their conversation and then they happen to notice me. I usually have to wait five minutes before they take my order. This has happens more often than not. I suggest the 20 minutes extra because you don't know which way it will go. Sometimes it is completely correct and matches the experience of other location. Make sure to look at what they give you before you leave the shop. read more

I should start by saying it's Easter Sunday and everything else seems to be closed, so I'm stuck with Starbucks. Aside from my usual issues with Starbucks (overpriced, rather support local businesses, etc) my issue with this one is the staff. They're all very nice and all (great to chat with, attentive) but they are also very very loud. If every single person in your business was working or reading quietly alone, wouldn't you maybe tone down your conversation a bit? I get that a long shift can be boring but do you really need to jump all over each other and have loud conversations about the awesome party yesterday? And why is there some random girl (no apron so I assume not an employee) just chilling out sitting on the counter by the coffee machine. Apparently the "greatest compliment she's ever gotten" was a guy who told her "she brings the ghetto out in them." Why don't guys ever say such sweet things to me? Sigh, a girl can hope! First, this Starbucks is not the kind you want to do work in. Well, I never tried camping out here to work, but there aren't that many tables/chairs that I'd just feel inconsiderate if I hogged real estate here for an inordinate amount of time. What I like about this Starbucks is the following: - Parking lot (ease of parking) - Very nice baristas (one of them kept messing up my order.. messing up in the sense that he'd say "we're out of matcha so I can't make you your green tea frappucino (so then I order a Java Chip.. and then he makes the Java Chip... and then all of a sudden....)... "oh wait we found matcha, you want the GTF?" and then I just say keep going with whatever you're making for me and then I get a free drink card out of it because he forgot to have HIS coffee that day - Not as crowded because it's far enough from Porter that no pedestrians in Cambridge will walk all the way here to get a coffee. This Starbucks is the kind of pick up and go Starbucks you'd find out in the suburbs, except it's nestled between a gas station and a laundromat. First things first THERE IS FREE WI-FI HERE! I don't know why people are saying there is not. Most of the best features of this Starbucks have been listed. There is indeed free parking (and more on the back side of the building), great service, and awesome baristas. Yoonie was correct about Alex -- he is indeed the master. He also makes the best iced green tea lattes in the world; seriously I will not order them anywhere else. It is a little chilly but if you have high self-esteem (AHEM) bring a blanket....hell, pack a bag to stay the whole day because they definitely do not care. The baristas can be fun and distracting if you want them to be but are also excellent about respecting your need to work if that is why you were there. I just wish they stayed open until 11 or so. Hands down my FAVORITE thing about this Starbucks, though? I was just saved from a (albeit cute) stranger-man who would NOT leave me alone. He was friendly and non-threatening but clearly I was done with the conversation and he wasn't taking the hint. As other reviewers have noted, the baristas here get to know you. My favorite barista managed to save me from the creeper by writing me a note in the language we both know JUST well-enough to communicate in .... bonus points for being a language with a foreign alphabet. A cute lil starbucks (with a parking lot) in Somerville?! YES! It's next to a laundramat that smelled like the freshest clothes which made me smile. Yet, there was someone in this starbucks who had vile BO (I do not think it could possibly be anyone that works there, because that is just offensive). I was out on a walk one fine Saturday morning and the Davis Sq starbucks was too crowded for me, so I consulted my Yelp app and lo and behold there was another starbucks just .5 miles away. I figured my mild melancholia could only be helped by caffeine-catalyzed-conversion to, well, more alert sadness. The barista must have felt my pain, because without announcement of my birthday, she offered me an extra shot of espresso in my latte!!! She totally made my day!!! OK, I realize the extra shot may not be worth its weight in gold, and some of you may think this doesn't warrant five stars, but an unsolicited kind and generous gesture (with the option of refusal, in case it wasn't what I wanted) WAS worth more than a grande latte's weight in gold!! I like this Sbucks... it's small and quaint, there's a parking lot, free Wifi, and the baristas are annoyingly nice (I mean that in the sweetest way possible). I am really surprised by both the bad reviews of this Starbucks, and that I haven't reviewed it yet. I have been going to this Starbucks for about 4 years, and it has been consistently awesome. First of all, there is free and easy parking. This makes it better than most of the Starbucks around (the one in Avon Hill is impossible, the one in Davis a little better but too crowded for my liking) . When I was a regular here (before I decided to stop spending 99.8% of my income on coffee), they always remembered my drink and made it right. They are still always so friendly and remember me. I guess it seems like some reviewers don't like friendly baristas? Like Lynne said, cute baristas are obv a bonus. It's always clean in this Starbucks and really sunny which is sometimes bad because of the glare, but mostly good because I like to curl up on one of the sofas up front and lie in the sun like a cat. I go to this Starbucks almost every Friday while I'm at school. The employees are generally friendly but can seem a bit distracted, especially when a friend or co-worker comes in to talk. Make sure that you're clear about your order and watch them write it down, I've seen a few mistakes and usually the order goes through 2 or 3 people before actually being made. The place is usually clean and the seating isn't cramped. Since this store is small, there's sometimes a bit of a wait, especially in the mornings, but the orders are made quickly. The store is located in a strip with a laundry mat, gas station, and subway among other stores, so you're likely to find parking. read more

I am not usually one to post a review but I have to say I went here after a couple hours at the baseball field with my kids and my son had an accident where he got his finger caught in the car door so we flew to Starbucks so he could wash it off and get a treat and let me just say the kid Chris behind the counter went above and beyond he brought my son ice and even bandaged him up until we were able to get home, he helped him feel a little better so a big huge thank you to Chris!! I lived across the street from this Starbucks for 3 years. As such, to the detriment of my wallet, it was like a second home. It was super-convenient to cut through and grab a cup of coffee on the go on my way to school or work. And while I was studying for the bar, I was literally in there all day everyday. I love the staff. Not every single one of them, but the vast majority of them. They are always kind and chatty, and even though they technically never knew my name, it always felt like Cheers. They often threw in freebies, even before I started camping out permanently. And although I threw them curveballs depending on the season and my mood, they often knew my drink. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because the other posters are right - the baristas sometimes carry on loud gossipy silly conversation with each other and friends who come in. This didn't really bother me; I just wanted to be part of the cool kids club. But I acknowledge it could be bothersome, if that sort of atmosphere is not conducive to your work or study or whatever other purpose you have in visiting a coffee shop. Personally, when I really needed to zone in, I put on headphones and no one bothered me. This place was one of the only reasons I was sad to move away from Boston. Establishing a rapport at my new Starbucks is slow-going. Although it's still conveniently on my way to work, I have less reason to linger. So I really miss this place. And I feel very guilty that I never returned to tell them I passed the bar. They were invested, right there with me. This is my preferred Starbucks in the Somerville/Cambridge area, and I've been to pretty much all of them. Its location can be hard to find for those not used to venturing to this odd part of Somerville on the other side of the train tracks. Located on Somerville Ave just outside Porter Square in a strip mall between then UPS store and a laundromat. Everyone at this Starbucks is really friendly and even before I became a regular would ask me how things are going. Instead of the usual small talk an employee could give you, and I know I've given a hundred times to customers (Hi how you doing? Good thank and you? I'm alright...) One time I mentioned my wife and I are going to have our first baby together in August (this was back in January) and everytime I've come in since then everyone wants the updates and to see pictures and hear about the progress of our little one, even tho they have never met my wife and I come in once a week. Just overall this Starbucks shines above the others in the area, the place is always clean, the bathroom never disgusting, and the service is fast and friendly. They even tried to order me but couldn't a glass I wanted but it was limited Christmas time only. Even tho there is a Starbucks closer to me a block away, I still walk a mile or two outta my way to this one, it is worth it. read more

But at this location, I like that the baristas really try to get to know you and notice if you're a regular and treat you like a valued customer - regular or newbies - alike. Ok I have become one of the easily bored. Blame our fast paced society or the constant inundation of information and stimulus if you like. What was once new & fun, dare I even say cool has become another part of the humdrum and monotonous state of existence. This Starbucks is as nice as any other with the same menu we have become accustomed to. Its not bad by any stretch of the imagination nor is it exemplary. Are we reverting to the way things were where we like, even seek out the experience and adventure of discovering small mom & pop establishments? I've been to this SB before and probably will return again. Their staff is the pleasant outgoing helpful sort we have grown to expect.
