My free birthday drink!
Sho I.

Convenient location by the law school, available parking in the area, and fast service! I like the baristas here as well even though some of them are undergrads at SU who sometimes charge me more for a drink than the usual price I get charged. Shoutout to Tyrell as one of the baristas who always remembers what kind of drink I want. That's the thing about Starbucks baristas---the good ones always know who you are AND what drink you usually get. I study here quite often and use their free Wifi, which I have little problems with. The crowd can get busy, but the baristas do their best to get everyone's drink out in a reasonable amount of time. Apparently Starbucks also sells oatmeal (?!). My friend complained about the oatmeal being too thick, so to Mr. Barista who didn't put enough water into the oatmeal: please put more water into the oatmeal next time :)

I'm not one to review chains/franchises unless something extraordinary or bad happens. Thankfully, it's not the latter with this Starbucks. Aside from the convenient location right across Seattle U on 12th ave., this Starbucks is special. Why? Because they carry a reserve menu and a clover machine. Sample reserve menu (sorry for blurriness): http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/6RI6I6-cfThNWeU7aCcs2Q?select=vlPtp8DEF4OeDqVo6V6_ug#rcfjeU9bZAfbThHqC003Bw I am by no means a coffee connoisseur, but I do take the chance to try different coffees from around the world. This location does a great job in rotating their reserve coffees if patrons what something different or unique. Yes, they are pricier, usually ranging anywhere from $2.65-5 for just a tall. Now, onto the Clover machine. This is an automated french press machine that uses a vacuum to make an ideal cup of coffee. I think it's a nice option for coffee lovers.

Drip coffee from my fave Starbucks location!

The coffee was delicious especially with the house-made nondairy milk, but what really stood out was the frosted cinnamon roll, which was almost like candy. I am not sure if this happens during the busiest moments in the shop, but they did have staff bussing the tables, and one staff member actually brought us our order (I'd been listening for my name to be called and didn't hear it). They clearly care about their image as they offer a free mug for first-time customers with an email sign-up. The drinks here are ok, but they average between $8-$10 each. I think the pricing is just much too high. You're paying for the vibes, not for a great cup of coffee. The matcha we tried was mediocre. There are so many other great places for coffee in Seattle, for just a fraction of the price. I think Storyville is preying on tourists visiting the market. They probably have to charge that much to keep the 8 employees milling about behind the counter employed. The space does have lots of seating, but it was nearly full during our early afternoon visit. Save your money, find another great local coffee spot!

This was on a Sunday afternoon close to 5pm, and there were still so many people occupying nearly every seat inside. I did come back to try their matcha matcha drink only to find it gone from their current menu as of May 2026. Instead, their turon matcha immediately caught my eye, as it has banana and I've been obsessed with banana-flavored toppings and puree on my matcha lately. It has matcha and house banana puree, both of which work well together. The tiny layer of house banana puree has all the flavor, especially when you mix the whole drink together. Very refreshing, and their ceremonial matcha's grassy tones still came out despite the banana puree being just as strong in the drink. Their matcha here comes pretty close to making it to the highest spots on my list of my most favorite matcha places in Seattle. Even if it isn't on the top of that list, their drinks are still 5+ star quality.

Also, most of their specialty coffee drinks have dairy in it. So if you're lactose intolerant, you're better off just getting a regular espresso because you can't replace any of the specialty drinks with alternate dairy options. They are pre-made mixes They have food but nothing vegan so if you're a vegetarian or a vegan, you're out of luck. The pastries look gross. It's lofty and airy, and gorgeous green tiles of all different sizes and colors decorate the walls. We came on Memorial Day morning, and though there was a line, it went by pretty quickly. There's a mix of booth seating with small standalone tables and chairs, but most of the seats were taken. The barista/cashier was really nice about answering my questions about the pastry case. I ended up ordering a matcha latte with brown sugar syrup (half sweet) and a gruyere pull apart pastry. My friend got a regular latte with brown sugar syrup and the scallion pull apart pastry. I also bought a bag of their Morning Sun coffee beans as a souvenir, and the cashier mentioned how it was one of her favorite blends to drink and gift! That reassured me about blind buying. My matcha latte was pretty good. It had an added earthiness from the brown sugar syrup. Though it wasn't as green as the matcha lattes I'm used to drinking back in SoCal, it wasn't bad! However, I think I would skip the gruyere pull apart pastry next time. I usually don't mind gruyere in savory pastries, but this one was especially greasy. The scallion one my friend got was much tastier and a lot lighter - I'd recommend that one over the gruyere one. If I were to come back to Seattle, I'd love come back and try a sweet pastry and a different espresso drink.

I usually don't get sick from drinking coffee but twice in a row is pretty bad. Their drinks are also overly sweet and most of them do not have a 0% sweet option, which is usually what I order from other coffee and tea shops, and it's probably because most of the ingredients are pre-mixed. They also use thick plastic cups, considering that Seattle is a pretty green city and a lot of similar Vietnamese coffee shops use sustainable cups. Sad to say, but my time visiting this chain has come to an end.
