We stopped by this service area. Decide to take a bathroom break. Then realize it's another 2+ hours drive so needed a coffee for sure. It's around 5:30pm as I remembered. There was like 4 to 5 customers in front of me. Only one serving the customer behind the counter. And 3 other staff behind doing the drinks, filling stocks and etc. First of all, total 3 counters, only one open. It was only like 6 to 8 customer beginning to form the lines. It takes this cashier lady 2 to 3 minutes taking each order. She was very nice, take time to listen to your order or making suggestions to the customer if they were confused by what the menu offers, and she would note down on the size of the cup that your ordering with detail words stating what they want. So I have no complaints on her performance. It's a great customer service for sure. But the problem I see was that if she is taking 2 to 3 min to place an order for one customer, that is a huge problem for this franchisee location. If I was in line behind 4 to 5 other customers, then that means I have to wait on the line for least 15+ min for sure. I know in fact it was slow moving line because 2 of the customer in front of me literally left the line and walk back to other shops to buy I assume its coffee. I counted the time I was on the line which is exactly around 15 min. So here is what gets me upset the most, the lady in front of me was ordering some kind of custom drink that had this new employee went nuts and kept showing her frustration. I kind of overheard she ordered something with 2 extra espresso shots and need some kind of cinnamon to be place on bottom of the cup beofr pouring the coffee as well as sprinkle more cinnamon on top of coffee when finish. The women who was responsible to make the order I overheard she said to the cashier lady that she doesn't sure how to make it because she didn't learn how to make this type of drink. She was also showing frustration towards the cashier lady as well as her facial expression to the customer who ordered the drinks. She kept saying that she never made this type of drink request before and she warned to the customer that she may not make the exact flavor she wants it. She kept showing frustration while making the drink. Then I heard that she said to the cashier lady that she should be making this not her because she was only here 2 days..and got trained for 2 days... I was kind of shocked when I heard that. First of all, how a big franchisee company like Starbucks can prepare a well organized training to all its new employees? If this is a new employee that have expressed her concerns that she cannot make this custom drink order, shouldn't someone more senior level employee immediately take over or at least show her how to do it? She was on her own and trying to figure out how to make that drink. Anyway, by the time she finished making the drink, she said to the lady who ordered the drink said that she is sorry if the drink is not made to taste exactly what she expect it. Then she turned around and make the next drink order. At this time I was like.. oh nooo. Because I also had at least one custom drink. So I ordered a grande ice caramel macchiato which is a normal drink on the menu, plus a custom drink which is 2 espresso shots on a big cup with ice. So the new employee lady happen to took that custom drink order and another guy who works in the back mostly doing ice smoothie type of drink took the ice caramel macchiato drink... I look at her and literally in my mind.. oh boy... she looked at the cup that the cashier wrote down and her face was like... wt.... what is this and how to make it? The cashier said just put ice in the cup and pour 2 cups of espresso shots over the ice.. she look at it and shakes her head.. I really want to laugh, but meanwhile upset because it took me 15+ min waiting in line and another 10+ min ordering and waiting for my drink to be made while watching this whole drama going on. Once she finished the drink she looks at me and said, I dont know if this is correct. I understand her frustration but gave her a warm welcome look and said yes you did great and that is exactly what I need. I feel bad for this new employee women because she didn't get proper training before being place on the field to serve customer without additional support or supervision. I also felt upset because if you have total 3 cashier counter available, why dont they notice this and open at least 1 or 2 more cashier counter. They seems to have at least 4 employees in the back. One at counter, one in the front making drink, another 2 seem to running around trying to find something or filling stocks. Meanwhile they have a long lines all waiting to order their beloved Starbucks coffees. At the end, this location needs improvement in terms of organizing their staffs. I probably wont be back on this location even if I stop by this service station. read more
