I don't like to complain without offering a solution, but regret needing to get visibility on this spot. There are some quality control issues that plague orders here. Here are some common occurrences: 7 people (estimate) can be on duty behind the counter, but: - most are supporting drive through orders and not walk-in orders; doesn't matter how many are waiting inside, the drive through window is priority - most are entry level workers who may be learning how to act when on duty but haven't quite figured it out - caring about order output can quickly overtake quality; even to the point of sending out drinks that are only 2/3rds full (photo included) Please don't mistake my disappointment as some guy who disparages workers. Rather, please consider how sub-standard output can impact the professional reputation of all who work at a location. I also believe that Starbucks won't go out of business any time soon, which suggests to me that there's probably no positive outcome forthcoming. read more

Came here for the half off drink from 12-6, and if it's visible from the picture, I don't know if anyone can tell how half empty this latte is? The barista remade it when I brought it to her attention, but didn't seem to be "thrilled" to remake the half empty latte. No communication , just looked at me, and with the most contempt and robotic motion began to remake it. If it wasn't half off time, I would have assumed the gimmick was half off/ half drinks. This is one reason I would never go through the drive thru. When she left it on the counter, she didn't even say something such as, "hope this one is better". Anyhow, it was appropriately fuller. This isn't the first time my drink isn't very full, last time wasn't as bad and I just took it home and didn't say anything, but when you are paying $5.37 for a latte it should be full for that price. Which is interesting to note because when I realized it was made short, I realized that I paid full price, and brought it to the attention of the person who rung it up, who (guess what?) happened to be the manager, who should have caught this. This location has been going down for a while, which is unfortunate because it's the only Starbucks that stays open until 8:30. There have been a few times I have been here around 6 O'clock and seen a few boxes that block some of the pathway to the bathroom and counter. Very sloppy and hazardous for a place of business. Additionally, while sitting inside the coffee shop, I heard a few baristas carryon inappropriately, and one of them (not the one who remade my latte) said out loud, "well you can be rude to customers, but you have to be careful or you can be fired". I never do this but I went thru the drive thru and went to pay my card was declining and it turns out my bank turned my card off for "suspected fraud" So instead of handing back my drink and food the man at the drive thru refused and made sure I still got my coffee and food. It's hard to write a review about an establishment that EVERYONE has been to, but I'll try. This particular locations is so easy and convenient for me, you can go through their drive-thru and be back in the highway in 5 minutes. While in the fall I love their pumpkin spice latte with a pump of white mocha... So Good! My all new favorite is the skinny mocha with raspberry. It seriously tastes like a chocolate you get in a Valentine's Day box of chocolates!!! This location is small, but the baristas are helpful and efficient. This is what it's come to, ranking Starbucks locations. This one is similar in every way to most other locations, so let me identify the key differences. It's small. Usually busy. Very cramped. Small parking lot make it hard to get in and out. I suppose the staff are not as friendly as other locations, but I've never had a problem. I'd be grumpy too if I was in this tiny place designed to handle a crowd half this size. Don't get me wrong, this place is no where near as busy as the Plaza location, but it is busy. I'd give it three stars, but the big plus -and I do mean big- is location. It's perfectly located on 291 just a little over a mile from Hwy 50. I have to fight the traffic the one on Chipman, which is a better store but not worth the inconvenience. So there you have it. Good Starbucks, great location. read more

For Starbucks this is my favorite store. They recently remodeled and today was the first day I went in to see the new store. The restrooms are spacious and CLEAN. The hand dryer is one of those high power ones that actually gets your hands dry. The pastry case layout was good and in the afternoon I was able to get BOLD coffee without them having to brew it. The new store is laid out well and I know that the baristas that work the drive thru like the new layout. The drive thru is efficient and I usually use the drive thru. Today I went in and I'm glad I did. I think the new patio area will be well used in the spring. read more

This location is "my store" and I visit everyday. I travel around the midwest and stop at Starbucks each day while I travel. Only one location has come close to exceeding my expectations like my 291Hwy store does. The baristas are friendly and engaging and take the time to get to know each of the customers. This is our hometown Starbucks, where we are almost every weekend. It's warm and friendly; we are recognized and greeted by name most mornings, especially if Annie or Shannon is working. The baristas are always very friendly and helpful, and will always let us taste new coffee offerings. We appreciate the cozy seating area, and the music choice is always great. I think Panera on Douglas might have slightly better coffee, as well as Dunkin Donuts on 291 in Independence. That being said, you can't beat the enthusiastic and helpful attitude of the employees at the 291 Starbucks. I've stopped in here on a fair number of occasions, and every time the folks are bright and cheerful. I appreciate that. They do a pretty good job keeping up with all the SUV drivers who are too lazy to get out of their vehicles and who clog the drive thru while the counter inside has little to no wait. I just park, hop out, and go inside for something to-go to avoid the drive thru drones, but the wait isn't terrible here due to them handling the lemmings pretty efficiently. Edit late 2016: I've deducted a star due to a bad experience I had here this fall. I was practically the only customer in the store, at an off peak time. I was totally ignored despite wearing a safety orange shirt that day since I had finished a bike ride earlier. The staff was very curt and snarky when I brought it to their attention that a human highway cone had been standing there ignored for quite some time. I emailed the store management about my experience but never heard anything back. I've since switched to the new Caribou Coffee at the recently built HyVee Gas just down the street. Service and product there have so far been superb. My overall impression is that this Starbucks location is so consistently busy that they no longer feel any sense of urgency or motivation to deliver a superior experience to clients. Disappointed when I chose this location over the other two in town: I was enjoying some peace and quiet when at 9:55pm, 5 minutes before close, one of the employees loudly stated "according to our intercom we are closed." Being the only patron left I took the hint and left. But given that I had made a purchase and that the 3 employees still had work to do before leaving for the night I expected a little more care and respect hoping I could hangout until they were ready. Hello Yelpers! Have been a regular customer of this Starbuck's for close to a year now. Have always received good to very good service here. Have noticed that this store seems to retain it's employees. Employees here seem to be in a good mood. It is a small location. The outdoor patio is very nice. A friendly couple with their small dogs show up on the weekends. Please visit this store when in Lee's Summit. You will enjoy it. Although there is a cemetery across the street, this store has very large windows and provides a nice view, nonetheless. read more

I had to call corporate after this stop. I requested light ice. I don't make a bunch of request, just that one because the ice takes up too much space and you don't get much of a drink. After receiving my drink it was full of ice so I politely requested for them to fix it. The barista dumped out half the ice along with the drink and then just filled the empty space with milk. I paid $6 for mostly milk with a light coffee flavor. When I saw that this was their solution, I didn't even bother to say a word because I naturally have a loud voice and there were customers to my immediate right. I wanted to save face for the young man. These drinks are too expensive to have anything less than perfect customer service. I will only get Starbucks for long road trips when I am desperate to stay awake. This is my second time calling corporate and there are many disappointments I haven't reported. Hole in the wall coffee shops are so much better. read more

This has pretty much been my go to Starbucks for the past 8 years simply due to location. I like that there is a drive through (although during peak time expect to wait 20+ min) and and indoor area of you want to come in and relax. Not the best tasting drinks in town - try Carabu for that. read more

My least favorite of the Starbucks locations. I enjoy smoothies and this location is always out of bananas or the chocolate they use. They even told me they don't carry the chocolate banana smoothies any longer once. Today I went for three smoothies and again, out of bananas. Man in the drive thru wasn't even sure they had smoothies on the menu and when I got up to the window he apologized for the confusion stating he has been doing all positions today and has even had to run to Hy-Vee twice....So is the grocery store out of bananas as well?? Only went here because they are about the only spot open on Sundays for drinks. Will gladly drive to the one on Douglass from now on. Save your money and drive to that one instead. read more

This store, despite the constant flow of customers at any given time of day always makes my drink right. (maybe because im a former employee and they know me) I stopped going for a while due to a certain barista, but justice was served and she was let go.. So it is now my go to location given that it is within walking distance from my new job. All the baristas are super sweet and make me feel at home. I tried the mobile ordering function today for the first time and my drink was ready before I even arrived. Love all my 291 friends and hope you all do too! This Starbucks is pretty average. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not a compliment. I get Starbucks aren't traditionally "big", but this one seems particularly small, mostly relying on stools to fit seats. Once you get over the size, and you order, you find yourself waiting longer than you probably should be, crowd or not. But then once you get what you ordered, it all seems to be okay. The drinks always taste good, and there aren't many issues on that end of things. The wifi is fast, and it's a good place to talk with friends or work on something. The cashier seemed very smug. A drink tasted like baby oil, tables had flies, and it made me feel uncomfortable with the seating. Outdoor seating was great. Coffee was good, and most of the tea was decent, but when we thought an order was wrong and told the cashier, she hesitated and tried to put up a slight argument. Once my food was still frozen, another time my pastry was burnt, and twice I ordered a vanilla latte that tasted nothing like other vanilla lattes I've had.
