This is a tiny Starbucks. You can tell it's meant mostly to be a drive thru location. If you're looking to sit and do some work here, it might not be the right Starbucks for you. I come to this location when I am visiting my sister-in-law. I walk here for my morning tea and usually get here shortly after opening. The employees are always incredibly friendly and happy to see me. My order is always ready quickly and with a smile. I can't speak to how things are when they are busy, but if you're up early and looking for your caffeine fix, this is a great spot. read more

I really enjoy this Starbucks location! The baristas are polite and service is fast. I mostly place mobile orders, and when there are cars in front of me who seem like they have long and complicated orders, they almost always get them out within just a couple minutes. It's a peaceful quiet area (much better ambiance than the Starbucks on El Cajon Blvd), and I have yet to be given a drink they haven't made well. They are kind with recommendations and always nail it when I'm looking for a new drink. I always go through drive through at this Starbucks due to it being convenient and every time it's been a good experience. I usually just get a americano just black. This time I also ordered a double smoked bacon cheddar sandwich. The coffee always tastes great! You can really taste it's high quality. Staff are also kind and helpful. Terrible customer service. Rude people. They had me sitting there in the freezing cold outside for 20 minutes waiting for my drink, utterly absurd. This Starbucks is known as "Lake Murray & Kiowa, La Mesa" in the Starbucks Order Ahead portion of the app. This location is just "meh" to me. There is limited indoor seating. There is an outdoor seating area in the shade but it is next to the drive through so you're inhaling exhaust fumes drinking your coffee. The parking lot is really small and shared with the drive-thru line so it is difficult to turn around in the parking lot or back out during busy times. I wouldn't even recommend this drive thru since you'll have to navigate the tight parking lot to get your coffee. A month ago the lobby was closed and this Starbucks was only taking drive thru orders. This location is walkable from Lake Murray if you are craving coffee in the area. Service is pretty prompt and my order is always accurately prepared. Parking issues aside, at least you'll get your coffee. read more

This is an adorable little location located off Lake Murray Blvd. The customer service is excellent. I normally frequent this Starbucks in the early AM hours. The baristas here are awesome extremely friendly, efficient and customer driven. Sometimes there's a bit of a line especially in the drive thru but that's expected during peak periods. Overall they are Speedy and accurate prompt service. Unfortunately, Parking is horrible. The drive thru lines runs into the parking lot. Sometimes you can't even get out of your parking space. So the mismanager took exception to my review. It was pointed out that I brought my travel trailer into the parking lot. That is true! I am familiar with the lot and made the mistake that it would have room. I politely requested the car move and the guy got nasty. Ordered an ice drink from the app and sent someone else in to get it while I was doing something else in the car. The person comes out and no ice in the drink at all, the drink is like warm at best. I had to send my person back in to get ice and the counter person gave them the third degree on why they needed a cup of ice. The staff was pretty rude, but I was the only one in the store and stood there for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally asked if I should go through the drive-thru because it seemed like they weren't taking inside orders. Lake Murray bucks! Ariana the star barista was both hilarious and an expert at her craft, if you can get an Ariana drink it's going to be a good day. The venti peppermint mocha was not only creamy but sufficiently bitter with chocolate and quite minty. Sometimes instead of hitting up the local coffee shop, I find myself craving some Starbucks cold brew. Like most locations, they make the cold brew on site and a trenta sized one will only set you back about four bucks. The Lake Murray Starbucks is perhaps one of the most busiest locations I've seen before. From the time they open to the time they close, this place always has someone at it. With the constant line of cars winding around their small parking lot and sometimes sticking out onto the main street. Lots of reviewers complain about the lot size here, and they are correct in that it doesn't fit too many cars well with their drive thru. But there is almost always plenty of street parking along Kiowa. Walking a bit won't kill you guys, you know. There's a nice setup of tables outside so you can enjoy your coffee in the shade looking out over the main road. The staff here is pretty quick with orders and very friendly considering how many people are in and out of this place. They keep the drive thru line moving just as fast as the queue inside the place. I must say for the amount of business this place does, I'm quite impressed that they've never once messed up on my order. The only gripe I've ever had here was during one visit when the cold brew had some nasty coffee grounds in it (wasn't filtered right), but they prompted to make it right by providing another one and dumping out the bad batch. Other than that, no complaints here, just wish they'd stop running out of the cookies I like. read more

Horrible customer service!! My sister and I go get coffee every weekend around 6:20am after our 6mile run at lake Murray. The barista with long dark hair , has noooo!! customer service training. Most rude worker we've ever encountered at this location. Argues like she wants to fight! Ignores us when asked for straws. This is every morning we walk I. The door. It's happened at least 3 times won't be returning any more. When called to ask for her name, whoever answered acted like no one worked there with the description I gave her. Said her name was Izzy! You can tell from the reviews when people complain about the design of this Starbucks that they are not local to the area. It's cool though, some people also just need to complain. This building was originally a Goldstar taco shop, and I don't see the point in blaming Starbucks for building it. I actually think they've made pretty good use of the space and it looks less tacky, although I do miss grabbing tacos on the way to the lake. Sure, you can get blocked in by the line of cars in the drive thru if you're parked in the lot. Hey, guess what? That happens at lots of places with drive thrus! It's not Starbucks specific. This is what happens when people aren't willing to get out of their cars. I've always found that people will let me out when I'm ready to leave though. I used to come to this location more often when my son was attending the elementary school down the street. This was a good location to meet up with his attorney before school meetings since her office is in Carlsbad. There's always available seating inside since the majority of their business seems to be from the drive thru. Service here is always friendly and fast. They are efficient and I can't recall them ever making a mistake. It's always tidy inside. There is sometimes trash outside, but I expect that. People get up and leave their trash behind. They have a small amount of retail items for sale along with the usual prepackaged food and bottled beverages in the cooler. And of course their bakery items they try to lure you into buying. I will admit that this place is really difficult to maneuver and park, but the employees here are really super sweet. What a wonderful Starbucks! Now I am NOT talking about the coffee because it seems all the same to me at all the Starbucks-good & strong!. I am speaking of the cutest little free-standing Starbucks building in the entire world. Driving towards Lake Murray for a stroll at dusk-I was captivated by the little brown boxy caffeine main-liner just sitting there on the corner all by itself How charming this was!! I asked this guy who lives in the neighborhood and he told me the location was once a forlorn Mexican joint that didn't get much biz so Starbucks snapped up the spot and good for them! Waaaay back it was called Zeke's restaurant,selling food and tackle items. Then it became Goldstar taco shop for several years. Small outdoor seating area and yes-there is Wi-Fi. The drive-thru is a bonus for peeps trying to hit the Interstate 8 exit a block away. Very convenient to grab some coffee and be on the freeway in mere seconds! I am just happy that Starbucks has quaint and cozy places like this around town. I am coming back in daylight with my camera later this week to capture the magic and put some pics up for this Yelp. They were down an espresso machine when I walked in (poor drive thru people) but my drink was up right away! The drive thru is so convenient and although the inside is small, it doesn't get too crowded... which is always a plus for students! The customer service was excellent today.
