Best coffee in LaCrosse area. Coffee snobs, this is it…read more Whenever I am on the south side I try to stop in. If we are having special guests visiting, I always make a special trip for fresh roasted beans. We own a grinder and espresso machine, the Bean Juice Espresso Roast is fantastic for this purpose. Last time I went ot was around $13 a pound, it is worth it. Here are a few tips! You get a free latte or coffee when you buy a full pound of beans. If you don't want the drink that day they give you a cute little ceramic drink chip. So classy. Also, be sure to sign up for the punch card rewards program. In addition to the free drink, when you buy a pound of beans you get a punch in a card and after you buy 10 pounds (or maybe its 12, I forget) you get a free pound of beans. Plus they keep the card on file at the shop for you...no digging around in your purse for it.

We also always visit the neighboring candy store when we're there. It's our go to for business/team meetings. Or it was until today... We had a very unfortunate experience with the owner of the business. My co-worker and I had been there since 9:30a- ordered breakfast and coffee. Invited another member of our org there around 11 for a meeting- he ordered a bagel and a coffee. Then, we had two more coworkers arrive around 12 for a meeting. At this point, the owner had been roasting coffee beans adjacent to our table all morning. Perhaps she failed to notice the several plates and coffee mugs we had went through. Because when one of our co workers (who had just arrived) brought out a sandwich he had brought from home, she came up to our table-obviously distraught. She told us we were disrespecting her business by not ordering food (meanwhile a different coworker had just got up to order lunch...). She told us that a library was better suited for people who just wanted to utilize facilities. Again, we had been ordering food and coffee throughout the whole time we had been there. She went on angrily stating that we were using her electricity, internet, and facility without making payment to be there and that she had to pay her employees somehow. When I finally had a moment to interject, I had stated that we had several orders from all the members of group that had been coming and going throughout the morning. And that, in fact, we frequently chose to give our business to Bean Juice. She seemed surprised to hear that and made a few quick remarks before departing our table. The whole experience was quite jarring, so it didn't feel right to continue hosting our meeting there. So, we left. And, we may not return again because we do not want to bring our business and employees to a place where we've been made to feel unwelcome. It's quite unfortunate because as I mentioned we would meet for lunch or coffee here about once a week. Do better and maybe ask a few questions before accusing paying customers of abusing facilities. Even a simple "no outside food allowed" would have sufficed and not resulted such a rude, reactive conversation. Unfortunately, we won't be back to continue supporting!
