    Mock Duck Banh Mi
    Rathin K.

I went here with my partner and her parents while we were visiting them in La Crosse. They were very excited to take us here as my partner LOVES banh mi. The location is in downtown LaCrosse in an indoor plaza. It's a bit hard to find but not that bad. It's a fairly small space with not a ton of seating, but it's meant to be a casual restaurant so it's understandable. You go up to the counter to order. Service was fairly quick. The menu doesn't have a ton of vegetarian options -- I do wish there were some vegetarian phos available. My partner and I both ordered the mock duck banh mi. It also came with a small bag of chips -- that was a nice plus. The banh mi itself was okay. The bread was good, and the vegetables were as well. My main complaints are that the proteins were too saucy/sweet (which overpowered everything else) and that the actual construction of the sandwich was off (resulting in some bites that were just veggies/just protein). I don't think this restaurant is as good as some in larger cities, but we may be back as it's the best choice in LaCrosse at the moment.

I got the Char Siu Pork Belly and Pho broth and two summer rolls

Food was fresh and tasty! Service was fast and friendly. The place is inside a building, but the signage outside wasn't hard to find. It is small inside, only a few tales but it wasn't busy when I went inside. Definitely would go back again.

First time coming here. Finding the place was a bit hard and confusing but not THAT difficult. We tried the 3 different Banh Mi sandwiches: Lemon Grass Porkbelly, KBBQ Steak, and Char Siu Porkbelly. KBBQ was by far my favorite. Every sandwich comes with a small bag of chips and sandwiches are a decent size. They have a self-serve area that you can grab water on the side. Also ordered a boba smoothie and I loved it. The service was great. They were welcoming and super nice. Let us take our time ordering and even showed us the menu. They were pretty quick with coming out with the food as well. They didn't really tell us what was what when it came out so we had to figure it out ourselves, not too much of an issue though. Place was very cute and clean. They only have one small bathroom but considering it's a small cafe, it's not an issue. Would definitely come back here for more. Definitely one of the better places to get fresh Banh Mi in La Crosse.

Not sure how that happened on Yelp, but there it is. Now, on to the review The Bierhaus is a little too kitschy as far as décor goes. However, the food is good, the beer is cold, and the staff is nice Went with a friend and I had the Lacrosse brat and fries, he had the German Brat and German Potato salad. The brats were both well cooked (and juicy). They were definitely as different from each other as the menu listed them - both good. Fries were fine, not super special, but hot and fresh. And a large amount. The german potato salad was good. They may or may not make it onsite, but in any case it was a good example of the warm, tangy concoction that it is. The only miss was the brat buns - they seemed a little stale, or perhaps had been kept unwrapped in a warming tray a little long and they had dried out. Definitely a miss. Bier selection is not Essen Haus quantity, but fine. About 8 german biers on tap, and about the same of american beers if you have to have that lite beer (But why?) And the prices were very good, especially considering this post covid inflationary age. Well worth going to again.

I ordered the ribeye since it came with a soup or salad ANNNNDDD potatoes or veggies. I opted for the French onion soup and some veggies. Holy moly, the cheese on that soup is no joke! It was a delicious soup but it did lack in onions (maybe because it was a small bowl that none got scooped up into it?). I ordered my ribeye medium rare and it came a perfect medium rare. The ribeye itself was of the thinner variety so don't expect a thick steakhouse ribeye. It was still really good though especially because it was so much food for under $30! The turtle cheesecake was TO DIE FOR! Ughhhh I'm a sucker for some caramel and chocolate in a cheesecake. I wish I lived here because I would be a regular for sure.

She had to go get another host to come point our name out. After finally being seated. Our waitress took our order right away. We were the only diners and came along 2 other tables. Le Cave was quite busy so it took a while for us to get our two drinks. We finally got our food after a little over an hour. My husband got the lamb wellington but they didn't have lamb and offered beef instead. The sauce was overly salted. So i couldn't try more than the tiny bite i took. I got The lobster risotto. It had mixed reviews but i thought i would try it and have my own judgement. It was also the waitresses favorite. I will say, the herbs in the risotto was over powering and the lobster which was supposed to be poached tasted grilled and was over cooked. Like many other reviews, i couldn't cut it with my butter knife. Perhaps a steak knife would've helped. But it still doesn't help the fact that it was over cooked. The side of butter was unnecessary as everything was too flavorful. And the edamames were just a tad bit too much. Escargot was over cooked. The herb butter was flavorless. We were very disappointed as this was what we were looking forward to the most. Fois gre was ok. $200 dinner and we were not impressed. But it was worth a try.
