I'm back on the road again, looking for some of the best food and drinks throughout the midwest! The first stop was La Crosse, Wisconsin, where I was able to catch up with a good friend of mine. When we were talking about where to go for lunch, she said she had heard all about this restaurant, but hadn't been. With the name like The Damn Tasty, we figured we better check it out and see if it lives up to its name. It was a little hard to find because they don't have the most obvious sign directing you to their space in the strip of shops and we did have to put our name on the waiting list, but as you can see, it was WELL WORTH IT. The staff was really friendly and while the space was cozy, the decor and ambience was really great. The menu was fairly limited with some breakfast options and lunch options, but you could tell that the menu was curated and it was limited because they focused on doing everything well. Let's get down to the food... We ordered the Kimchi Toast with kimchi cream cheese, thick cut bacon, fried egg, chili crisp, dressed greens, grilled sourdough. Honestly, this was 10/10. A little messy to cut up, but holy cow the flavor... Bánh Mì Burger with a potsticker pork patty, pickled veggies, shaved cucumber, garlic mayo, chili crisp, cilantro, fried egg, seeded roll! Another one of their best sellers and I can see why. Finally, we had the French Toast with blueberry compote, lemon curd, honeyed whipped cream, cinnamon crunch. I guess we figured we needed a little bit of sweet with all of our savory!

The food was good. I went with some friends for brunch and I would recommend arriving early. We arrived not too long after they opened, 9 a.m., and there was a line already. I didn't keep track of the time, but we did wait for a good amount of time before we were able to get to the front of the line. Their process is ordering the food and paying ahead of time at the counter and we can go find a seat afterwards. They do bring the food to us but they're not a typical restaurant where they would serve all the food together, which was fine with me and my group. My friends were raving about the Kimchi Toast and I didn't believe them so I ordered the Bada Bing sandwich. This sandwich was still good, but the Kimchi Toast was much better. I did order a side of the Kimchi cream cheese to dip my chips in, and that main ingredient was very tasty. The place was quite small, with very limited seating. I would say, coming in with a big group is not recommended. I did see couples sitting with other people due to the limited seating. Overall, the wait is long and not much seating but I would definitely go back though, for their Kimchi Toast.

What fun spot to find in La Crosse! Visiting the area, there was no recommendation, just did a search and decided to cross our fingers! Their menu is innovative and fresh! The staff was kind and courteous. Food was DELICIOUS. I got a beermosa cause why not!!! Would've loved a selection of beers to sub than Miller Light (but I'm probably just a snob for craft beers ) It was still all the same delicioso! For my main course, I got the kimchi and... just YES. Never would I think to eat kimichi for breakfast, not put on toast, nor put it with cream cheese?? Just yes yes yes. I should've ordered a second one? My friends all Sang praises as well, but I was more into my plate Being new to the area our sever was SUPER helpful. She recommended places for my friend And I to hit while in town. We really appreciated the time she took to list so many places!

Great brunch experience. Very busy Sunday morning crowd so prepare yourself for a wait. It's worth it though. Great selection. Brought home a loaf of sourdough to enjoy later.

What a lovely place with a fun eclectic tasty menu!! Service was great and staff were friendly. The pastries are amazing but get there early since they sell out quickly. Definitely will be going back!

The name says it all! We stopped by with a large party and wanted to sit outside with our pups! The damn tasty was able to accommodate us and have fun picnic tables out back. Perfect to enjoy the summer weather. We ordered the Turkish eggs and the ham hash. Both were delicious. The poached eggs were not runny unfortunately but still extra tasty. We also ordered the Bloody Mary, which is made with sake, different but good. Also ordered an iced latte with oat milk- yum! I highly recommend stopping here for breakfast or brunch!

A Chromatic Feast: The Warm Embrace of Sagra in La Crosse…read more To dine at Sagra in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is to be reminded that genuine culinary warmth can be found far from the traditional epicenters of Italian gastronomy. Guided by an exceptionally attentive and gracious staff, the experience unfolds with a well-paced rhythm that immediately puts the diner at ease. It is an establishment that clearly understands the intersection of great service and great food. The meal begins with a study in subtle elevation: olives presented with a gentle, deliberate warming. It is a small but vital touch that awakens their natural oils and briny depth, setting a welcoming tone for the table. The meatballs follow suit, boasting a robust, comforting heft. They are deeply hearty and undeniably tasty, anchored by a rustic authenticity that demands a proper piece of bread to chase the remaining sauce. However, the quiet star of the evening was a sweet potato dish that essentially stole the stage. It was a vibrant, chromatic triumph--an absolute masterclass in both visual palette and culinary palate. The kitchen managed to coax an astonishing spectrum of colorful flavors from the root vegetable, elevating a humble ingredient into something genuinely amazing. "Life is a combination of magic and pasta." -- Federico Fellini The pasta course, often the crucible by which an Italian kitchen is judged, was a remarkably pleasant affair. While it may not have possessed the sheer, surprising theater of the sweet potatoes, it remained a fundamentally nice, deeply satisfying plate of food that grounded the meal in tradition. Ultimately, Sagra delivers an unequivocally great dining experience. It is a restaurant that balances hearty comfort with vibrant execution, proving that a well-crafted Italian menu in the heart of Wisconsin is a journey well worth taking. Cate G was an excellent server and totally not ruffled by our large group. It was no problem when we asked for separate checks - she just asked that we not play musical chairs! We were chilled from our hike so the tumeric antioxidant tea with honey (extra charge) and lemon hit the spot. We had only planned on staying for a warm beverage before heading out to lunch elsewhere but the food menu enticed us so we decided to stay. The menu offered food I love as a vegetarian! Tumeric toasted cauliflower, roasted sweet potatoes, beets, sumac roasted chickpeas, crisped kale/brussel sprouts mix with a lemon tahini dressing. So much goodness in a bowl!! There were so many other choices but if I were to eat here again, I would try the housemade vegan burger or one of their salads. Around the 90-minute mark, we got a text saying we were 2nd in line to be seated. When we let the hostess know, she snapped back, "That doesn't mean you'll be next." She explained--in a very rude, condescending tone--that smaller groups would be seated ahead of us if a table opened for four. Not ideal, but we stayed patient. While waiting, we noticed tables being cleaned and split apart from a larger party near the bar. I politely asked the hostess if those tables could be used for our group. She cut me off mid-sentence and spoke to me extremely slowly and dismissively, as though I didn't understand basic seating. It was unnecessary and unprofessional, but again--we stayed calm. When we were finally seated, our group was split between two different sections, even though the tables were literally touching each other. The boys ended up with two tables of their own, and the adults were placed at two tables next to them. We still had three more adults arriving, so we asked our server (who was wonderful) if we could move one unused table from the boys' area to the adult side. She said she'd need a manager. Who shows up? The same rude hostess--now calling herself the manager. We asked if we could move the unneeded table so our adults could sit together. She immediately refused and started lecturing us about "affecting her waitresses' livelihood." She insisted each waitress needed their own tables and that she wouldn't "take away" from them. She repeated "livelihood" multiple times, even though we clearly explained that we were all on the same bill and were trying to make things easier for everyone, including the staff. We offered multiple reasonable solutions: Seat us together while allowing both servers to split the table and the tips Let the servers collaborate since we were one large group Allow us to use one table that was otherwise empty Every suggestion was shut down. She told us she had been "accommodating enough already." That line alone says everything. Meanwhile, the actual waitresses were fantastic. We tipped them very well because they provided great service. Our frustration was 100% with the "manager/hostess," not the servers. We visit the Buzzard Billy's in Des Moines regularly and have always had excellent experiences. Unfortunately, the La Crosse location handled customer service very differently--and not in a good way. Being talked down to, dismissed, and blamed for impacting staff "livelihood" when we were simply trying to sit together was unacceptable. For large groups: I cannot recommend this location. We won't be returning. Do better, Wisconsin.
