One thing I can rely on with Starbucks is that they do offer brewed coffee based drinks (not just espresso based drinks) and a particular, very flavorful Chai tea latte. We were in the area, running errands, and we decided to swing into this location. We were greeted and assisted by the very friendly Tracy. My hubby had recently signed up for and downloaded the Starbucks rewards app, and, just our luck, there was a $2 off a drink reward available to use, so we did! Tracy also informed us that through the app, she's noticed that Starbucks seems to send out "buy one, get one" offers on Thursdays, so keep an eye on the app. On this day, we ordered two tried and true favorites: the Caramel Frappuccino and a Chai Tea Latte (with a twist). During winter last year, we discovered the Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai Latte and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, it is seasonal and went out of rotation. Thankfully, a wonderful barista out in Las Vegas shared a concoction that we can order throughout the year, and it tastes just like it! It's ordered as a "Brown Sugar Vanilla Oatmilk Chai Latte." It's fantastic! Happily, across the nation, Starbucks has been consistent with our favorite drinks. This Starbucks is no exception. We loved the dog friendly patio at this location as well. Afterward, an employee/manager came back and told me that the transaction was only pending and asked whether I still wanted my drink. I explained that I was willing to pay for my order, so I used Apple Pay again with the same card/account, and the second transaction went through successfully. What bothered me was the way the situation was communicated to me. I was told, "We can't give nothing for free because it's still pending." I never asked for anything for free, nor did I suggest that I wasn't going to pay. I had already attempted to pay for my order, and when I was told there was an issue with the first transaction, I immediately paid again.I am now being told that I have to wait for the original pending transaction to return to my account. This means I currently have two transactions associated with the same order, with one still pending. Even after this interaction, I still left a tip because I was not trying to avoid paying for my order. I simply wanted to receive what I had paid for without being made to feel as though I was asking for something for free. I understand that pending card transactions can happen and that the business may need to verify payment. However, I feel the situation could have been handled much more respectfully. The statement about not giving me anything for free was unnecessary because I never requested anything for free. I would appreciate clarification regarding the pending transaction and confirmation that I will not ultimately be charged twice for the same order.

This is rural Tennessee. Freight trains, are frequent as the mountain mist. Prosperity, polish and pretentiousness entertained elsewhere, are not hosted here. Evidences of sagging retail architecture edifices abound. Or as David Rose from Canadian TV might say, "look like a sad bag of potting soil." Feel free to disagree. The good: The coffee roasting and flavor @ Harmony House are way up from 5 years ago. I'm now ordering by mail from HH, Costa Rican and Ethiopian coffee. Have two fans in H town who fell in love with John's coffee roasting. I hope he considers to start selling coffee online. Carefronting Part One: FYI this establishment does accept credit cards. That is what I used to make purchases. Although throughout the town, cash is king as many small towns, unique locals or small businesses across the country (USA) are. I.e. Martha's Vineyard (Island) in Massachusetts. This is life: Artisan coffee roaster jovial, quick to laugh at his own jokes but honest and desiring to serve his community. He's genuine, focused on the best cuppa, perplexed by those who don't appreciate his passion for coffee. One of his faults. I'm probably as acerbic and moody. (Don't answer that.) The current building owner is woefully not interested in updating the property. That's unfortunate and also out of the HH proprietors hands. Interior seating updates however are on the way. And perhaps luring breakfast menu items beyond scones. We shall see. Meanwhile, if you are longing for pretty good coffee, this is a place I would pull off the interstate for. No Starbucks for miles. They have wifi and power and that let me get some work done this morning for a couple of hours. I did try my usual cortado and cheers to the barista who was unfamiliar with the concept and tried hard. It's a small glass - only two shots of espresso with an equivalent amount of steamed (not foamed) milk. What I had this morning was closer to a latte with very little foam. Grindhead is a funny little spot, directly behind a Dutch Brothers Coffee with a Caribbean/Pirate theme. So I walk in, and I hear from behind the coffee bar, Ahoy Matey to the sound of the Caribbean music playing in the background. The barista was friendly and helpful as we chatted a bit about the shop. I started with one of their seasonal offerings, an Eggnog Latte they called the Clipper. It was nice, but too sweet on the finish for me. That was on me for going that direction as I know the associated risk. Salt is a featured ingredient in a couple of their coffees, and as the barista had shared with me a recipe she makes at home that includes both salt and vanilla, I asked her to please whip up a latte to her home recipe.......now this was a real treat as the coffee, salt and vanilla worked in real harmony for a delightful drink. This shop is not really convenient for me as I have several good coffee house options in my own neighborhood, but I will be back, if nothing else I need to spend my dabloons.
