25 minute wait for okay coffee in the morning. Wont make that mistake again. Went from being early to running late. Ruined my day.

This location is eternally busy but they try to be efficient, while being friendly. It's also really convenient for folks who are close by or want to use the pedway (underground walkway) when it's really cold, rainy, windy, too hot - you know, the Chicago weather that's prevalent 10 months out of the year. So it's a great spot, especially if you want to take a walk to the Bean or Millennium Park, while sipping on your macchiato. This last time, there were at least 30 people waiting. I got my usual hot drink and got a napkin, when all of the sudden, they called my name?!? I thought, "that can't be my drink?!?" But no one budged and sure enough, it was my drink. Was it my Yelp check in? My tip? My smile? All of the above?!? I guess we'll never really find out but that was just awesome, kinda like driving in LA with no traffic on Interstate 5, on a Friday afternoon. read more

Hands down the worst Starbucks experience I've ever had. I understand it's a busy corporate location during rush hour with mobile orders coming in as well, but I had made an order on my phone for a sandwich ahead of time, that apparently they didn't have in stock that day. The store didn't have any signs indicating this, however, and I was still charged on my app for the item. I only realized they never made my order after waiting thirty minutes in line. I initially asked for another sandwich to be made instead, but was put in the back of the queue again. I then had to request for a refund instead of the store automatically offering me compensation for the wait and miscommunication. Regardless, will never be coming back to this location again. read more

This Starbucks is conveniently located in the basement of the Aon Center. For those of us who work here, this is often a regular stop in our day. In my experience, service here is pretty good. However, if you go during busy time, you could be waiting 30 minutes or more for your drink. The best way to get around the wait is to order ahead on the Starbucks app and then come pick it up. The wait is the biggest complaint here. The other day I was sold a protein box and the expiration date was for the day before. After getting back up to my floor I had to take another trip down in the elevators to bring the box back. The employee was very apologetic and had no problem crediting my account and offered me something on the house. This is what customer service is supposed to be!!! I wasn't even upset about the whole transaction and chose oatmeal as my replacement item. This impressed me a lot and sold me on making this Starbucks my regular location (I pass multiple Starbucks on my way to the office). read more

This location was closed for a short time for a full rehab. I was hoping that since over half of their morning traffic is web orders, they'd redesign the layout to accommodate that. Instead they kept it exactly the same. Navigating the store in the mornings feels very much like trying to exit a packed CTA train from the middle. Similar to what other customers have posted, this is not one of the better locations to visit. Can not handle the rush volume, the store plays music entirely too loud for anyone to hear anything, and they are inconsistent with the orders and you have to ask them to remake them constantly. I agree with the poster who said they need to display your order status on a big monitor to expedite service instead of the random yelling they do now. I usually try to avoid going here but end up buying something when the co-workers go on a Big Bucks run. (Yes I call it Big Bucks because the iced tea I get from Dunkin Donuts is under $3 for a large while you spend upwards of $4 or $5 for something that may not even be prepared right.) I doubt Starbucks corporate takes any stock of these reviews to make improvements, so this is more for other customers to take heed and buyer beware. read more

Hands down THE BEST customer service I've ever received at a Starbucks. Ever. I work in the AON building, so come here almost every day - and it's such a treat. The Starbucks employees who work here are very friendly, they know your name, and always provide an awesome experience - they deserve recognition. Tony, Chris, and the gang (just to name a few) make the experience enjoyable - and always have a smile on their face. The baristas whipping up the drinks are also awesome, and despite the high volume they work with - always seems to get it perfectly. A little about the logistics - there's usually a line in the morning here, but it goes by very quickly! Even out the door, it never takes even 5 minutes to get to the front. It's a quick, efficient Starbucks... so don't be daunted by the long line, it will go by super fast. As for the space - it's not the most conducive to sitting down and chatting/doing work (there's maybe a dozen tables or so, but it's a little cramped) - it's more of an in and out type of place. read more

Nice staff and the iced peach green tea is SO good... I really like how friendly the staff is here at this location, it could be because it is so busy, ijust fraction of the people coming thru and leaving tips, will make a decent tip jar happen. Regardless, they are always patient, even with people that don't really spend $4 on coffee daily... that can roll up into a pair of shoes or something ya know? The DD nearby does well too, but they are a lot less friendly, Hmmm. read more

Updated review (4 stars): I came back to this location around 11am on a Tuesday and ordered a venti cascara latte with 4 shots, soy milk, and an extra pump of syrup. This time all modifications were accounted for! I got my drink without waiting long again and it tasted delicious. The barista who took my order also had very beautiful handwriting. I love how this location takes Gold star rewards too. I'll be back! Original review (2 stars): I came to this location around 1pm on a Wednesday. The interior is relatively spacious and clean. This seems to be a busy location since it caters to many tenants in the Aon building, but many other people from around the area. I ordered a venti cascara latte with 3 ristretto shots, soy milk, and an extra pump of syrup. I got my order without having to wait long, but I didn't realize, before leaving, that my cup was missing the marking to signify that I wanted an extra pump of syrup. It's hard to tell off taste alone, but it didn't taste as if an additional pump of syrup was added. I'm going to assume that my modification was missed, but I know that if I had seen this while still at the location, they would remake my drink to how I originally wanted it. I'll come back and order something very similar and see if my drink is made correctly next time (and I'll update this review). read more

I don't really drink coffee, instead I'm a Chai (tea) person. My decision to go to this location is an unusually studied one. There are 5 Starbucks to pick from within a 1 block radius from where I work--3 of which I don't even have to go outside for. There is a somewhat independent shop right in our building. There are a number of other places serving Chai. So to get here, I pass up the Starbucks closest to me--Millenium Station--because their staff seems to be incompetent and literally every other visit I have to ask where my drink is because they missed it; and even when they get it, they are slower and the drink is often too milky. The Starbucks in Illinois Center uses a wireless headset for drink orders, and I just find this to be really obnoxious. I pass up Rom (the somewhat independent shop, though it actually has corporate roots related to Bacci) because their Chai is a sugary powder mix, which I actually used to love, but now I think of as more of a dessert. I pass up Au Bon Pain, because their Chai is made from Classique Mont Blanc Gourmet concentrate, which is nearly all high fructose corn syrup (and on top of that, it tastes horrible). So on to Starbucks AON Center I go. The line here can be very intimidating at times... I admit I've seen it and walked on to the next place. But in actuality, the staff here is so efficient that even if the line is out the door, you'll have your drink in your hands within 5 minutes. This morning I arrived at 9:11 and exited drink in hand at 9:15, even with a line out the door. It really didn't used to be this way, something changed--the staff they have now do an exceptional job. The baristas in particular really keep this place running. And I've never once had to wait 10 minutes for a drink only to find out they didn't call it out. Never once. The main clientele here are AON Center employees, which is actually a lot of advertising/creative type people who visit daily and order the same drink daily--the baristas usually remember their drinks even before they speak up, and often their names. Ironically, the AON Center is home to the creative firm that makes the pro-HFCS corn lobby ads--why can't these customers go get the Au Bon Pain if they think HFCS is so great? The Chai at Starbucks is often dependable, but this location never screws up. You see, almost all shops use some sort of concentrate, which is then usually mixed with milk at some ratio (often equal parts). Few shops will sit there with a measuring cup, who has the time for that... So sometimes your chai turns out milky, sometimes really strong. At Starbucks AON, it's always very consistently right: spicy, peppery, creamy. If you visit Starbucks often, it's well worth getting a gift card from them and registering it online to tie it to your bank account. After 15 drinks you reach "gold" level and your add-ons such as syrups, soy, etc are free, and every 15th drink is free as well. read more

I rarely write reviews for chain stores, but wow this is the most efficient Starbucks I have ever visited. I'm interning in the AON Center this summer, so I've frequented this Starbucks every weekday for the past 3 weeks. Although there is always a 15-person line out the door, it moves so quickly that I'm always in and out of there within 10 minutes. I love Starbucks; I love coffee, tea, and all that comes with it. What I don't like is absence of customer service. I stopped by to ask for a cup of hot water: I have a cold and wanted something warm to mix my medicine with. I've done it a million times at many other cafes including Starbucks. Not here, however. First the girl spend a few minutes trying to figure out how to charge me, then she asked someone else and they said no, we don't do it. The girl suggested to buy a tea and only take hot water. This Starbucks was my intro to coffee when I worked in the Aon Center a decade ago. Fast forward ten years and I'm working in the Aon Center again though with a different employer and a different preference in drinks; I no longer need the calories of a Frappuccino and prefer an Americano or Latte. They are friendly here, but the line could move faster. They should consider using the same system as the Starbuck's in the pedway where someone takes your order while you're way back in line. read more

But the employees here made me a convert. They are just so GD friendly that I now happily fork over my hard-earned money almost on a daily basis for their liquid crack because they are A) efficient, B) know me, C) know my drink, etc etc etc, Seriously, I even friended one of them on Facebook. This 'bucks is MUCH improved after a clean-out of employees late this summer. (Literally: one day it was a bunch of rude, lazy folks and a dirty store - the next day, bright shiny happy baristas who really want to serve you an overpriced coffee). By far the most friendly Starbucks I have EVER been to. The young woman with the treble clef tattoo was super nice and friendly. We bonded over the fact that we both have treble clef tattoos and talked about what instruments we play. I could tell many regulars stop by here as the baristas know their daily drinks. I am working a conference here in November at the Fairmont Hotel and I'm sure I'll be stopping by here each day getting my wake-up fix. I am sad to hear they are closed on the weekends - what am I going to do? read more

You'd be amazed how many people get through this coffee shop in a day. In the morning, there's a line. At lunch, there's a line. At 2 pm, guess what? There's a line. DON'T LET THE LINES INTIMIDATE YOU! This barista team gets people in and through the lines quicker than almost any Starbucks in the city. Probably as busy as a Manhattan Sbx, but they get you in and out with a smile. Although, if you go after lunch, don't expect much of a pastry selection. (They FLY through this stuff!) First of all, the on-the-go timing as to when your drink will be ready is waaaayyy off. It said my drink was going to be ready in 2-5 minutes but it took over 15 minutes. Secondly, I watched the barista make my drink and he didn't have enough steamed milk to fill the cup. I heard him say, "Damn, short" but still just covered it and sent it on its way. So I just paid $5 for a grande latte that could have been a tall. And of course, it was too sweet as there was enough hazelnut syrup for a grande. I was limited on time so I couldn't get it remade considering it would have probably taken another 15 minutes. read more

I would love to review how my tea tastes, except the guy served it hotter than magma. Yeah yeah, hot tea is hot. That's not the problem. My issue is that when serving a piping hot beverage, the server should have enough sense to leave some room at the top so that hot liquid won't slosh out of it while you're walking or so that ice can be added is desired. Not to overfill it to the point it leaks out out just from removing the lid and burning my hand. Currently sitting here staring at tea I can't drink for the past 20 minutes with burnt fingers to boot. read more

I go to this store pretty much daily because it's in my office building . At least once a week, my order is wrong. I don't have super customized orders either. It's a busy store so things will happen and service isn't always going to be perfect but come on, 1 out of 5 orders is wrong? I don't know what it was about this Starbucks, but they made a really great mocha. It tasted different than what I have had out in the Bay Area. Plus, what is up with the Starbucks' in Chicago?! They move quickly because the staff is fast and efficient. Probably the best and most efficient Starbucks I've ever been to. The Starbucks crew here makes it a point to get to know your name and your drink order. I was so sad to leave my FAVORITE barista's on Clark and Adams (shout out!) and thought well that's convenient to have one in the building. I was sure they are not going to be as nice, helpful or as good as a non-captive Sbux...boy was I wrong! They are not resting on their laurels! They are friendly and helpful and fast. This Starbucks is, without a doubt, the best in the city. I have been to many Starbucks locations throughout my lifetime, from the gold coast to the south side. This one has always stood out to me for its service and efficiency. In the morning, working in the loop, patrons have countless options for coffee. However, I have never seen such consistent service and friendly baristas. While the baristas are incredibly efficient, they also strive to make a connection with each and every customer. Tony, in particular, is ALWAYS in a good mood, greets you with a warm smile, and goes above and beyond to multi-task. While the line is out the door most mornings, don't let it fool you. You will be in and out the door in five minutes tops. read more
