This particular Starbucks location services Northwestern Hospital, it's staff and patients. So with that said, it is a no nonsense spot to grab a coffee and keep moving. There was a short line which gave me time to observe. There were people trying to restock, which kind of made it difficult for the others to assist customers. It all seemed a bit bumbling. I watched the woman on the register assist 3 people in front of me. No smile, no good morning, no greeting at all. I did not hear a thank you either. When it was my turn, I ordered a simple black coffee, paid with my phone and moved along. She did mumble a greeting and seemed relieved that I knew what I wanted. I know it is probably not a lot of fun but maybe try to fake it. I was glad I was not a problem customer and helped make her day just a bit easier. Word to the staff - since you are inside the hospital, your customers may have just gotten bad news or are filled with anxiety waiting to see their doctor. Everyone getting there morning rush. Also, same goes for the afternoon and sometimes the evening. Best time to go is at night or weekend. Less crowds to deal with. The night shift staff are pretty cool and chill. They do accommodate to your specific drinks if you ask. They triple check to make sure you want your milk or whip cream or not. this Starbucks is super great and efficient! They handle really high volume from the nearby hospital. Staff is always very friendly! There is seating in the lobby of the hospital for patients and people picking up their coffee. However probably not the best place to get work done. read more

The 3 stars is because it's a Starbucks and in my work place so super convenient and gives me the boost I need. However this place makes me late every time I order on the go in the morning. Be warned!! Ordering on the go in the morning takes 20 minutes for them to make your coffee. For a Starbucks I think that's 10 minutes too long. I always feel like my order doesn't go through. Ordered lattes at 9a for folks in the hospital who don't consume refined / processed sugars. Go to station with them after order comes through, and surprised to find raw sugar compartments empty. No honey either... Just refined / processed sugars. Asked staff for raw sugars for our large order, and was told, "We don't have no raw sugar." No apology. Plenty of attitude. Really? Like this isn't standard Starbucks issue? Others are hearing this, and are equally surprised by this new, in-your-face business model. They don't know how to make drinks - not the worst Starbucks (better than ones at airports), but still not going back there. Only reason I go to Starbucks is because I know what to expect from there (whole point of franchise). But this one is nothing like standard Starbucks. There is no quality control done at this location. There are couple other locations within couple blocks radius, so go there, not here. When asked what her name was (usual protocol) the barista said, "you don't look like a Jessica." My gf is Chinese/Mexican.... he then proceeded with, "you look more like a Ming or a Ling.. or a Ming-Ling".... visibly upset, my gf silently waited for her coffee (already paid) the barista further demonstrated his utter ignorance, "don't be upset, I'm just stereotyping." The workers here are some of the nicest I've ever come across at a Starbucks. They have always been upbeat when I've gone through at all times of the morning, afternoon and night. The fact that they are open from 4:30a.m to 3:00a.m is amazeBALLS and extremely smart from a business perspective. I mean think about how much money this location brings in from family & friends visiting loved ones overnight, employees from all different departments of the hospital working the night shift, students pulling all-nighters and neighborhood dwellers like me who randomly need their Starbucks fix at odd hours. Worst Starbucks I've ever been to. Even though its the most convenient place for me to get coffee, and I went there almost every day for several months, I've just stopped going to this starbucks because of the terrible service, and instead visit au bon pain for coffee in a pinch ,or go a few blocks away to the Starbucks on Ontario. Sometimes, the employees put out a few drinks and don't call out what they are, and if you ask if one of them is your drink, they will either legitimately YELL at you, or completely ignore you. I've gotten the wrong drink three times because of this, and when I tried to tell them, they were extremely rude about giving me the drink i'd ordered. A couple of times, they ran out of an ingredient, but didn't say so before charging me for a drink (I can't tell you how many times I've ordered a blonde roast or bold coffee and paid for it, only for them to tell me they don't have it). Also FYI, they don't have a toaster, so don't expect a toasted bagel. read more

It's the only 24-hr Starbucks remotely in vicinity, and the coffee and espresso drinks are very well-crafted (like most downtown Starbucks). And there is an academic vibe, with med students studying for boards and hospital employees frequenting the location (though occasionally homeless people hanging out). There's usually a fairly decent line in the a.m. as you place an order through someone wearing a drive-thru-esque headpiece. You know deadlines/exams are coming up when there are people scattered nearby diligently studying. I've never seen a coffee place handle a rush like this starbucks. It's not big, a small corner of a hospital lobby, but they are fully stocked and crank out the drinks. It's also open late which is nice when you have to pull an all nighter. At 7pm the lobby door next to the starbucks gets locked. You can enter the west doors, they're always open. read more

This starbucks is hidden inside the Feinberg Pavilion on the first floor. It's usually busy most of the time since NMH employees are on different shifts and always going in and out. Considering how busy this location gets I'm surprised that I've never had to wait too long for my order. In my opinion this Starbucks is actually quicker with orders compared to the Starbucks on the corner of Erie/St. Clair right under the Hyatt. I've experienced longer wait times there. read more

So, being a college student, I have many nights where I need to stay up late. Starbucks is always one of my first choices outside university libraries. This location is great because its relatively quiet and peaceful, and open 24/7. I didn't think I'd ever write a review for a Starbucks, but feel I that the outstanding service calls for it Ryan, one of the baristas and cashiers recommended a coffee brewed by a machine (I believe it to be called the "Clover"). What it does is brew their specialty coffee in a cup sized serving. I recommend trying a regular coffee (or iced) using the other specialty roasts. When I asked for something delicious with a good amount of caffeine, he recommended the blonde roast ( my recent favorite). I had a Iced (blonde roast) coffee, sweetened, with soy milk. They also have clover machine brewed coffee! They are single cup brewed with exotic and rarer single origin beans. Go for the Jamaican Blue Mountain or exotic Sumatra if you like it hot and heavy!
