I've had similar desserts from Whole Foods that were much better---richer and tastier by a significant margin, and at 1/2 to 2/3 of the price. The only one that was better-than-mediocre was the lemon mint tart (nice tangy lemon, imperceptible mint). Oh and the chocolate sandwich cookie was decent. I could see coming here just to loiter and work on a laptop or read a book, in which case I'd buy a coffee or tea because I had to. But wouldn't bother with the desserts. Come to think of it, even Starbucks has better desserts. Maybe their savory dishes are better? I'd certainly hope so. But, it's easy to understand why this chain seems to do well...most folks are easily wowed by the sheer aesthetics of the place, such that they don't really mind or care if their tastebuds are being put to sleep despite the price premium they're paying.

This Starbucks used to be my go-to spot, with plenty of seating and a welcoming atmosphere. After months of waiting for renovations to be completed, I was excited to return, but unfortunately, the experience left me disappointed. The space feels completely different, and the staff seems inexperienced and unfamiliar with the menu. I ordered a non-dairy vanilla sweet cream cold brew, but it took two staff members to figure out how to ring it up and what goes into the drink. I even had to explain the ingredients to them. While waiting, I overheard the baristas discussing how to make my drink, and one of them instructed the other to use regular cold foam--which I hadn't requested. As someone with a dairy allergy, this could have been a serious issue if I hadn't overheard and intervened. Additionally, the seating area has been significantly reduced, making it less inviting than before. The lack of training among the new staff and the diminished ambiance have made this once-favorite location a place I'm hesitant to return to. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it. read more

While there's nothing wrong with a limited menu and basic store design if other elements of the cafe (service, flavor, etc) are up to par, in this case none of anything really tries much to live up to any standard of service or selection. In short, with all the other options in town Brew'd, Caleria, Life Alive, Cafe UTEC, Purple Carrot, Rosie's, Time Out, etc there's not much reason to go out of your way to work around this cafe's limited hours, run of the mill storefront, and nonchalant service.
