Service is so good at this location. I always place my orders via the mobile app. My drinks are well prepared. Today, I noticed that the option to blend my cold brew was not on the app. Strange because I thought that this was how I used to order. I asked the staff member who said they didn't normally blend it but she offered to blend it for me. Now that's great service. The drinks and food were so good. I used to get my oatmeal from Panera but thought I'd try it here. I loved how I could customize my toppings. Stopped in the cafe and immediately noticed that dining room trash cans were overflowing. Went to use restroom and they were beyond disgusting. No toilet paper and trash cans were so full that people put bathroom trash on the floor, leaving floors filthy. Toilets and sink were also disgusting. Welp we can go ahead and add this location to the list of the ones NOT to stop at along your travels down I95. This location popped up when I was looking for the next closest location so I could use the restroom and grab a Medicine Ball and a snack. They were a tad bit busy which is understandable, yet there was no greeting when you walked in and they took their time coming to the register to assist you. Oddly enough it was like a scene out of a slow motion movie.... you know the ones where the words are supppppperrrrr slowww and the movement is even slower. That sums up this experience. After placing my order, paid and proceeded for the barista to heat up my Pumpkin Loaf, needless to say this was the fastest part of the visit. I think the overall wait for my drink was close to 15 minutes and that is being generous, I swear I lost track of time at one point. Sad thing was al the customers waiting on drinks were commenting to each other on how slow the service was. As if that is not all the icing this slow baked visit needed, you could barely hear the names of the drinks as they called them. I'm a die-hard loyal Starbucks customer through and through, and can always be counted on to get my mandatory SBX fix when I'm on the road. One of the things I typically count on is not just in having my loyalty affirmed but the consistency one should receive when going to a franchise, *especially* a company-managed franchise. Well, so here are the nice aspects of this location warranting the two stars: nice, bright layout and plenty of space to work or lounge, both inside and outside. Decent display areas, logical flow, and a drive-through (which I didn't experience). The barista making the drinks was a bit slow but super friendly. Here's where I wasn't so pleased and where this location almost got one (only because you can't give a zero) star: I was driving south on a road trip, so needed to use the rest room. This Starbucks has its restrooms clearly marked for gender, so there was only one bathroom for women. I went in, and the door simply would not lock. I pressed it nearly 30 times, jiggled the doorknob, opened and closed the door, etc trying to figure out how to make it lock - no dice. In the end, I took a chance (luckily no one walked in on me). When I walked up to order, I thought I'd tell the cashier that the women's restroom door wasn't locking (so maybe they could just write up a note to say please knock first and tape it to the door or something), and the guy *literally* cut me short and started arguing with me. I mean, seriously arguing in an aggressive manner. As in telling me "yes, it does" repeatedly. With the full tilt expression and attitude of "you, lady, are obviously an idiot that doesn't know how to push a stupid button on the door handle which is all it would have taken to prove that I - a guy - obviously know that you're an idiot and the door to the only women's bathroom clearly locks." Now, dear readers, I can think of only two situations that would engender this response, neither of which put this guy in a good light. One, other women have mentioned it and he personally checked and found out that the lock is finicky so despite my multiple repeated attempts to lock it, I missed some specific combination of actions to get the lock to catch. Or two, he honestly didn't give a crap and figured if he made the woman feel stupid she'd shut up and realize she was just too dumb to know how to operate the lock. Either way, his rapid rejection of my trying to let him know about the lock really took me aback. I thought about taking him on but honestly, folks, it wasn't worth it. I just shut up and ordered my coffee, and mentally said sorry to the women that might be using the restroom afterwards. I wish I'd caught his name but I don't think he was wearing a name tag. I've been in a LOT of Starbucks locations and met my share of disengaged, sometimes cold Starbucks employees, but this guy was over the top. Unbelievably rude, obnoxious and a jackass with no sense of customer service at all. I honestly hope the regional manager reads Yelp reviews and counsels the employee. This Starbucks is so bad that Im stopping to take the time to write a review when I've got an 8 hour drive ahead of me, after driving for 8 hours already, and after my visit I still need to go find a place to get coffee. Firstly, I asked the person taking my order if they had a particular mug in stock that I wanted to buy. I've been collecting the Been There Series and wanted to buy two of them in Virginia. The cashier simply responded "I don't know". Ummmmm. Is there someone you can ask? Who just says I don't know. So I order myself a double espresso and they hand me a dribble of espresso. I asked where the rest of my coffee was and they said that's all that comes with a double espresso. If you want to describe what I was handed in terms of "fingers" as though it was an alcoholic beverage, it was barely half a finger. Literally a dribble. Instead of offering additional coffee this barista argued with me over what an espresso is. Thinking I confused it with a latte. Seriously? Also worth noting that the place was filthy. The garbage was overflowing. I through out my trash in the bathroom instead. The bathroom which was covered in beer and smelt like a dirty bar. Not too off the main road in Ashland this stand-alone Starbucks, part of quite a large strip mall complex with a variety of stores and that generally feels comfortable and maintained, features a very compact store with a smoothly done and easy-to-navigate drive-thru that brings you back around to its entrance/exit in an organized and efficient fashion. It's not too far from the entrance/exit to I-95 and so if you're on the highway with a need for a quick Starbucks fix it seems a good location as the rest of the region its in is a bit lacking in Starbucks. This Starbucks is just okay. Whenever I'm in the area I visit and the baristas are always young and hip. That's a good thing, right. Well it can and can't be all at the same time. I had a good visit today but on my previous visit the barista tried to not refill my drink when I was clearly sitting in the store for 30-40 minutes. That was a while ago and I'm sure she's moved on to bigger and better things. So I've been coming here for years and the staff is super hardworking and friendly. Normally I wouldn't write a complaint but they put so much ice in their coffee. Even when you ask politely for lite ice, they fill up the entire cup with ice. Overall, a lackluster Starbucks location. I specifically picked Starbucks as my pull-off point on my road trip to use the restroom and pick up a Honey Citrus Mint Tea for my sore throat. I wasn't acknowledged at all by any employees. The customer in front of me needed two pounds of coffee ground and instead of telling me he'd be with me shortly or some such, the cashier started grinding the coffee and looking aggressively over his shoulder at me as if my presence was an annoyance. Considering this is a common pit stop for people from the highway, I would have imagined a location like this would be a bit friendlier but I was mistaken. No one was rude, just not the super friendly and accommodating Starbucks experience I'm accustomed to back home. After several weird glances from the barista grinding coffee, the drive thru barista came over and helped me. He was nice enough. He seemed a little new but you've got to start somewhere so keep up the good work! Finally, I got my beverage. It was made exactly as ordered, which is great because I'm obnoxious and get a half dozen modifications on my drink. I was appreciative of the beverage consistency between locations. In terms of the store itself: Bathroom was clean and stocked. The cafe/lobby looked orderly and wipe down. They even had free samples of Strawberry Green Tea in a toddy for people which I thought was cool. Overall, just a fair experience here. If you come here, come for the drinks. Kind of a dump by Starbucks standards. The men's restroom was trashed and out of soap. I wonder how the employees are supposed to wash their hands before returning to work? There was also a stack of cardboard boxes near the door; probably the latest shipment of coffee and supplies. These things should be stashed in the back. The food case was empty and they were out of gift bags. The cafe floor needed to be swept, but the place seemed short staffed. I think the district manager needs to check up on this store. read more
