I recently witnessed the way the owner(or lady who is at the front register/answering calls) treated a new client at Star Nails, and it was honestly very disappointing. There was a small misunderstanding, yet the owner responded by raising her voice and speaking to the client in a very rude and disrespectful manner. The client handled the situation with nothing but kindness and patience. Personally, I would have walked out immediately if I had been treated that way. I've also heard similar concerns from others regarding the new owner's attitude and the way both clients and employees are treated. Unfortunately, experiences like this are the reason Star Nails has lost not only my business, but also several longtime clients who used to enjoy going there. Respect and professionalism go a long way, especially in customer service. read more

I recently moved to the area and happy that I finally found a consistent gel x nail tech after a bit of trial and error at other salons. Book with Lynn! I've paid between $77-$80. Adding chrome a few times. You can get a fill for a cheaper price, but I like to do something different with a fresh set each month. This place has gone downhill horribly. I even gave them a second chance and went back after my last poor experiment and this one was worse. I talked to owner and she didn't care. They will get you in a chair and make you wait for over two hours. I had to leave without my nails done for a wedding tonight and they did nothing to make it right. Absolutely LOVE this place! I went to star nails for the first time this morning and have absolutely found my new nail tech. I don't remember her name, it started with an R. I enjoy - and my wife demands - that I get a monthly pedicure to tame my raptor like toe nails. I've tried several places in the greater San Marcos area. I've been to Star Nails four times. In fact, I'm seated in the chair as I type this. I have found this location to be reliable and consistent for a quality pedicure. It also more reasonably priced compared to a couple other places I have visited. I brought my wife along for this visit. She is more particular than me, so I'll let you know her opinion below What actually prompted me to write this review today was another customer. She insisted on carrying on repeated phone calls on speakerphone. That is one of my pet peeves. Another customer was waiting and ended up leaving because of the loud and annoying phone calls. Business Owners: Nobody likes listening to other people's phone calls. Please discourage or prohibit your customers (or staff) from this behavior. The wife enjoyed the pedicure and said the accompanying massage was much better than her regular place. read more

These were the most reasonably priced nails I have ever gotten. I asked for gel builder on my natural nail, and they executed perfectly the color shape and everything. The inside is nice and calm the doors were open with the breeze coming through. It was a lovely vibe. I believe the gal that I saw her name started with an N but she has the first booth as soon as you walk into the right she's so sweet and very detailed with her work. I live about half an hour away. The main female managing the place that day was extremely rude, did a poor job and then when asked to fix were very disrespectful. Another person doing my toe nails did a poor job and applied gel over old nail polish. Some of the staff seemed very inexperienced and when asked to fix they gaslight you. The cost of manicure and pedicure for two people cost me $200 and they did not honor their original price quote. I would not recommend this place in the future. read more

Sadly, 1 is generous. I was hesitant to complain but it was, (and still is) very painful, and my family has encouraged me to do so for possible future guests as well. I probably wouldn't make as big of a deal if it was a Little Nick, but this was one deep cut that really hurt and two or three smaller ones that are also causing issues. Beyond that, take a look at the manicure much of the cuticle that should've been pushed back is still there while she cut live skin. I'm not sure if you can see it but if you zoom in you can see the different layers of paint and also it doesn't go all the way to the nail bed edges. I called the management after three days and told them about the issue, kindly. She said she would talk to her boss and refund my money if I came in. When I came in, she asked if I was the one that called I told her I was and showed her my nails. She said something out loud and several others came and looked and gave me a sorrowful face. I think her and then she told me I will give you $20 because your toes are fine. She then went on to say you will be fine, you will be fine and squirted peroxide on my hands without my permission. I am kind of appalled at the way that this was handled. At this point it's not about the money it's the principal. Hi, of course, will never return. I hope they give some training to the customer service people and also the nice lady who did my nails. read more

First visit at Star Nails and will be back to give them another try. I believe the tech, initially working on my nails, was named Carly. I came in for dip nails and a pedicure and this is what I liked and what could have been better: Liked: 1. dip removal: -the tech filed enough of the old dip without getting to my nail bed - covered in foil and acetone for long enough time to penetrate -she did NOT use a scraping tool to remove the old dip (the worst, imo). She used cotton and acetone to rub off most of the residue then the gentle tip to smooth (my fave guy in SD removes just like this). 2. the shape of each nail and length matched 3. they actually offer the dip colors! Some places dip a base then use gel polish for the color 3. they didn't use the UV light after dipping powder layers 4. Attention to detail when painting on my French tip 5. She dipped my nails enough to give thickness. Some places do really thin layers and they end up chipping Small improvements: 1. the finishing coat is touching my cuticles/edges on some of my nails and this may cause lifting and my hair getting stuck. Next time I'll pay closer attention to this 2. Received a basic pedicure, but comparing to my fave pedi spot the cuticles could have been cleaned a lot more. The end product is very pretty, but next time I would have picked a base that is not as sheer to get closer to my inspiration picture! I also would have asked for shorter toe nails - they were just filed down a bit. read more

I refuse to go to a shop where the customer service is trash, I do not care what culture you are from. I do not owe you my business. Next time maybe you should have a large sign letting customers know it's cash only for tips. Way too many nail shops that are much nicer and cleaner. read more

I had high hopes coming into this salon because it looked really cool and I like trying new places. They got me in right away, which was super nice. They had nice colors to choose from which is always a plus--however I had acrylics and gel put on, literally a couple hours later my middle nail broke. Maybe it was a fluke, I don't know. A couple days later my other hand middle nail broke. Can't say they did a great job or had the best service but--it was not worth the $60. I give this salon two stars. I'm not sure if I've been out of touch with the prices, and how much it costs to get nails painted, but THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I looked at their menu for nails and asked which nails were the ones priced at 35, and the lady (possibly the owner) kept changing the prices regardless of how plain and simple and SHORT the nails that I asked for. There was no design or color, just plain! And it went from 53 to 52 to 50 to 42, okay, well my mom sat down to get her toes nails painted, no gel, just French tip style, simple! Her toes were blank and clean, and they charged 15! I won't be returning with those prices. Besides this! The lady who was doing my nails cut my finger and left me with the most unpleasant set of nails I've ever seen.. they are FAT SQUARE BLOCKS. I had to go home and fix them!
