The place is well organized. The service is ok . A few young aged cashiers that are a bit rude. They also talk personal business with the young adults putting the food on shopping bags Otherwise the experience is pretty pleasant. Those young adults need busy work . They have good sales on food . Not on the store miscellaneous things , those are always fully over priced . The cold cuts area ; I frequent for deli items. They are always kind. Clean bathrooms and efficient line management to lead my excited experience. I loved the variety of items in the store. I didn't read the other reviews but for a one stop shop in Chestnut Hill, you could do a lot worse. The aisles should have it if you need it and if you don't want it it, it may call your name when you walk past it. I like that the lines were low ng, they are pretty busy, but the flow was smooth. Many people thought that they would be able to jump to a self scan, somehow missing those of us patiently lined up. There is an attendant that directs people to the line, meaning the walkway of the main aisle entrances would not be congested. read more

The young Mediterranean dude at nights is great, he does a lot of tasks and with a good attitude and fast. I have using this local Market for a long time since it was the original market before Wegmans showed up. The fish department is the best and love their ongoing sale prices on most items. Shopping here is a pleasant experience since staff is most accommodating. The only thing I wish they would reconsider is bringing back the Bins for Recycling Plastic Bags in the back. Worst experience today at chestnuthill Star. Syock was low, some of the popular products no longer in stock, isles where block with boxes and rude people. Check out girl was a zombie and picked at her face while ringing up my food i helped bag the stuff she didnt thank me or make eye contact at all. Store wasnt clean especially the doors and inside of the elevator. Wont rush back there anytime soon. read more

Very nice suburban supermarket that is well cared for and well stocked. I stopped in to check out the prepared foods and had a chance to look through produce. They have a very impressive bunker of cheese that was quite tempting. The store is clean and the cart corrals are empty. I was here at 5:30 PM on a weekday and there were plenty of registers open with no more than two customers deep. read more

It has been a long time since I shopped at a star market. The person at the checkout had the worst attitude. I signed up for the membership app before getting to the checkout, so that I could get the "discounted" price, which is really just the normal price. Well, he made me input a bunch of things, went back and forth, scanned my QR code several times, and in the end, I was so frustrated that I just wanted to pay as soon as I could to get out of there. Once I got out and checked my receipt, they charged me the full, ripoff price. I'm okay with paying a little more for a pleasant shopping experience. But this was just the worst! read more

The selection and prices are good but the cashiers on Sunday afternoons are always pretty rude. Today the cashier asked if we want to bag and we said yeah because we don't mind to help with bagging but usually the cashier starts to bag after they scan but she just stood and watched us and proceed to smash our bread with a watermelon to which she said "oh,sorry" in a monotone voice so it really didn't seem like she cared. read more

If you have never been in before, you might be confused walking in and finding just flowers and an escalator, but go upstairs and you will find the food, fear not. The store has some hits and misses, but it definitely is bright (pre-reno it wasn't so bright/clean looking) and BIG. Small annoyances like walking in a circle several times looking for a fork and knife when they really should be near all the salads and ready-to-eat things and no pencil or pen to write down the 5 digit number on the tag for bulk purchases. Really, unless the 5 digits are my zip code or the first 5 of my phone number, there is ZERO chance I will remember it when I get to the cashier (who didn't seem happy about it). It is nice that they have the self checkouts, but none of them were open today and only two cashiers were at the register mid-afternoon just days before Christmas??!! read more

This star market is a little more upscale since it's in Chestnut Hill. First off, the main shopping floor is up the escalators. There was a large selection of fresh produce, that wasn't going bad. The aisles were clean and stocked. And the checkers were friendly! read more

This is the best star market there is. It is very very clean and the employees are often very helpful. The fish department, the deli, the already made food, the bakery they're all some of the best I've had for star market. This one is always less busy too. Very big and stocked. I've been orderling online via the Chestnut HIll store for a while now. Past few times though have encountered some issues and the worst one most recently. Order never came, was charged for it. Called the store put me on hold, then they hung up. Called again and was transferred to a number that just rang and rang and rang and rang. Called again, let the customer service agent know what was going on and she hung up on me. Tried the online customer service chat and interacted with three different agents. Each one's writing/communication skills were pretty poor. Overall service was deplorable throughout this ordeal. Don't waste your time here! read more

I've shopped here on and off for many years. Saturday I bought a package of deli turkey and, after eating a couple slices, noticed that it had an expiration date of one week ago. I truly hope I do not get sick from this. Think this will be my last time shopping there. read more

I feel that the average rating of 3 stars is erroneous. This is *THE BEST* Star Market ever. Some of the other nearby locations, like Dedham are super great too, yet this one REALLY takes the cake (especially over the "just-ok" West Roxbury location). This Star Market includes a Starbucks as well as fresh made popcorn near the entrance and a seating are all around the windows, watching busy Route 9 traffic. Perfect way to start a Sunday morning. The actual store has an amazing section of basically everything. They have hot meals ready and they even have an olive bar (yet I don't like olives.... but they still have one!). The fish counter was huge and they had Hot Meals prepared (like most Star Markets do...), and they even had a cheese shop. The interior design actually looked somewhat like Wegmans across the street does, yet this store isn't as busy as that, which ended up being a good thing. Also, Korin, my cashier was friendly and helpful, and just brightened up the visit, as checkout was extremely busy and somewhat chaotic. (Why doesn't this store have self-checkout?!?!) Definitely the BEST Star Market I've been too, and I look forward to returning. A few small things to note: -- Parking is not an issue here, there is a front & side lot, as well as a back lot, with a back entrance -- The actual store is on the second floor, but don't worry, there is an elevator & multiple people escalators as well as carriage escalators -- There is a Starbucks inside of this store -- This store is located at 1 Boylston Street / Route 9, in "The Street" Shopping Center in Chestnut Hill. Wow. Here I was thinking, "who reviews grocery stores?" Apparently 32 other people besides me! I had to write a review for this particular starmarket because it's the bougiest starmarket I've been to. They're so bougie they make you bring your own grocery bag or they charge you $0.10/bag (edit: was informed they stopped doing this. THANK GOODNESS! worst idea ever) and YET, I come here every Monday. Why? For their BOGO free marinated meat selection!! I get 2 containers of "sweet chili marinated chicken breast" for ~$7-8 and I'm able to eat it for dinner for 3-4 nights! My other reason for coming here? It's right next to shake shack, which is currently having a BOGO free burger if you show your student ID on mondays until 12/21, so I get to save money there too! Can you tell I like my BOGO deals? I have been going to this particular Star Market for about 10 years. Its conveniently located on Rt 9. I ve always been pleased with my experience. One time the mgr saw me looking for something and asked what I needed. It was an item they didn't carry but she said they would start. That's awesome service. Lately over the past four months it has really changed. Most of the long time employees are gone and there have been no replacements. I am usually there betw 8:30 and 9:30. There is one cashier open. Thats it. This is terrible... Also many of the shelves seem to not be restocked... and they aren't carrying the variety of brands as before. A new market is opening closer to my home in a month or so...I think Im going to start going there. The Chestnut Hill Star gets worse every week. C'mon @StarMarket read more

Poor customer service. No management ever available. You get passed from department to department and nobody knows anything -or cares. I even went to the customer service booth but there was an employee purchasing a hug stack of lottery tickets which was taking the one cashier over 10 minutes to process before I finally left. Some of the employees seem to feel entitled to treat customers badly. Perhaps because there is no management to report a problem to. I try not to go to this store but when I must I am always unhappy with the experience and quite shocked by the attitude of the employees. read more

This is my neighborhood grocery, much to my chagrin. The staff here is rude, almost to a person. I see staff in every department with their faces buried in cell phones, including lower management. This morning was the final straw for me. I bought some turmeric on Tuesday that is already moldy. Terrible store. Employee name Fasia insisted on the incorrect price for an item. When I asked her to check the price,she actually had the nerve to tell me to go check the price myself and said, if you know it is wrong then you tell me the number!! I then asked her to call over a manager and she said no!! Another cashier overheard the situation and called a manager. The manager came over and guess what....I was right, she had the wrong price! The manager then proceeded to tell me that Fasia, the cashier, was new...I am still not able to comprehend why that is an excuse for Fasia to speak to customers with complete disrespect??!! This has to be the most beautiful Star Market I've ever seen. It's so clean. Right when you walk in the front door they have gorgeous flowers. I'm usually one to say DON'T BUY FLOWERS FROM A SUPERMARKET! Buy from you local florist. Being that I'm a florist. Cashier manager Shayne is extremely rude and combative. The staff is wonderful other than him- he should not be working front of house. Make sure not to believe discounts. Shayne will tell you they don't offer them. We've dealt with him on multiple ocassions and he is extremely rude. read more

I have shopped at this store for at least 10 or so years and I have finally had enough! This is what has prompted me to write this review: I am in the store at approximately 7:15 AM today, which is customary as I sometimes stop on my way to work. I picked up what I needed and proceeded to go to the register to pay. There is no one at any of the registers so I had to go to the self-service area. I placed a paper bag in the bagging area and began scanning my items. One item did not scan so a light above the register came on to let whoever is covering the area know that someone needs assistance. No one comes- (although there is now a cashier standing at one of the registers.. READING A MAGAZINE!!!) She looks up and sees my light flashing, but proceeds to read her magazine and ignore the flashing light, so I get her attention and ask for her assistance. Apparently, I disturbed her because she had a nasty attitude. She resolved the issue and then proceeded to charge me for the bag as if I wasn't going to pay for it on my own! Really? 10 cents? I'm not going to pay the 10 cents for a paper bag? This same woman is usually the only cashier there in the mornings and I have had issues with her before.. Please resolve this issue. There is no reason why I should leave your store after spending my hard-earned cash feeling mistreated for absolutely no reason. read more

Solids grocery store, has all the necessities for sure. In terms of atmosphere, it gives me hospital dentist vibes maybe it is because of the The bright white lights. I think star market could definitely learn from whole foods in terms of vibes, because the feeling of when you walk into star market is very different from the feeling of when you walk into whole foods. The freshness of the fruits are not the greatest at times but they are still dependable. It's still A convenient store to have around so I definitely will be going back many many many times in the future. read more

After a long drive up from Providence, I found myself in a one-too-many-iced-lattes kind of situation and needed to find a restroom, pronto. "Hi, do you have a public restroom I could use?" "Sure, just follow the yellow line." The employee pointed to a 6-inch wide painted yellow line on the floor leading through a set of freezer doors to the right of the bread counter. "Great, thanks," I said. I followed that same line through the produce fridge ("This is a little weird," I remember thinking), down a flight of stairs into some sort of cold storage place with assorted other perishables, through some dry storage, past a deli counter employee on a cell phone in a locker room, and finally to a small restroom. When I was checking out I was told they were out of paper shopping bags and had been for some time so I had to take items in plastic bags ! Yesterday I found a package of completely green smoked gouda cheese in the Kosher section. I passed on getting a non-green package from that area because all the cheese was warmer than room temperature.
