Outstanding. A circus of food choices. Clean. Well organized. Friendly and courteous staff. Place to buy anything at value-prices, eat, "people-watch," and wifi in their seating area. Prices beat other local grocers. Most impressive is a hot-grill for sandwiches and burgers - $2.99 for burger with condiments - lettuce, tomato, etc, and fries compared to an average $10 - $18 at other places of less taste. One mother bought five for dinner for her burger-hungry "rug-rats." Complete meals if you chose. Beats the price of other store's prepared meals by half. We drive by other food stores for another 8 miles just to experience the entertainment of selection and values. Went shopping at 9 AM four days before Christmas. MB was ready! They had all of the registers open and there was a cashier and bagger at each one. There were 3 managers overseeing the lines to keep everyone moving in and out as quickly as possible. I was impressed. read more

Groceries are expensive enough, but dealing with rude cashiers and baggers shouldn't be my problem. Never a "hello, how are you." They can't even be bothered to tell you the total and just have smug looks. I brought my own bags, and asked the bagger nicely to put all my things in one bag. What does she do? She tosses a couple things in the large bag and throws the rest in the small bag. She ended up THROWING a glass jar of jam in the bag and it breaks and got over the rest of my groceries which ruined my produce and several other items. I gave them good business and most of the employees are nasty to customers. read more

Been coming here for many years now, ever since it first opened. It is the biggest one in the area, definitely way more options/choices than the other ones. It has a Kitchen, Cafe, dining area, sushi, produce, frozen food, groceries including lots of international cuisine options. Parking is always busy but either way finding a spot is possible. Convenient location and quick access to/from the interstate. The store is usually well stocked but the check out lines can be long. read more

Got 3 slices and when I got home to heat one up it had hair on it, at first I thought it was plastic of some sort but it was curly dark hair and not one piece but several. Probably my favorite MB location in the Boston area ... good selection of fresh produce (this is where the big ovepriced chains like Star/Stop-n-Shop suck the worst), organic stuff, grass fed / free range meat, nice deli and bakery, not bad coffee shop and oven-baked pizza. The last one is similar quality to Whole Foods' pizza but at half the price! I agree with one of the other reviewers that this is generally a pleasant, well organized, and non-crowded MB compared to the Somerville location! Love that MB is a family owned chain not an evil corporate one, they treat/pay their workers decently, and on top of that they have the best prices around! Great Market Basket location. I like the company overall, MB rocks. I hate the takeover of these faceless mega chains - you know the ones that sound like Straws, Shop N Drop, Moon Market, etc. - MB is a family-owned local business that's growing steady and consistently provides low prices, great value, and fresh produce/meat. This location is really great, lots of parking space (although it really fills up since it's so popular), got a great liquor store with good prices and a nice selection, they often do tastings of wines and beers here too which is fun. I have an interesting story about this particular MB. I was in front of a customer in line who had a $1 sticker on his sushi, for sure he just stuck it on the box - stupid cheater - I called him out on it in front of the cashier sort of like "oh that's cool that's such a good sale, where are those I want one," he seemed very deer in headlights and sort of mumbled something. The cashier let him through and he quickly left. I had to go through the line again since I forgot to buy something, and the cashier was like "oh I realized it too late but yeah he seemed shifty." Kind of disappointed she didn't pick up on my obvious hint. Anyways, nice people working here and I wish MB all the best. read more

There are only 2 things that give me great anxieties: being stuck in Boston traffic and being inside Burlington's Market Basket. Anxieties to the point that I could use a stiff drink after the ordeals. This place offers no relief even when it's not busy. So Market Basket, you are really doing your customers a disservice when you hire people to work at the registers and they can't do simple math. 2 weeks ago I paid my grocery by cash. The total was $85.30. I gave the cashier $100.30. Simple enough, don't you think? When I handed her my money, she gave me a confused look. She stared at my money like it was something she had never seen before. So I said, "Can I have my change, please?" Flustered, she gave me $19 back. Whaaaat? Was that just some random number she pulled out of a hat? But being a child of Karma, I gave back the 4 singles and said, "I just need 15 back". The other day the lady in front of me took a very long time when she was checking out, despite the fact she only had 6 items. She turned to me and gave me this look that said, "I'm so sorry. I swear it's not my fault." I looked back as if to say, "I know it's not your fault. I totally understand." Then what seemed to be a lifetime of standing behind her and watching this transaction unfolding in excruciatingly slow motion, cashier handed 3 singles to nice lady. Nice lady gave her back the money and said, "I gave you 23 dollars. I just need 77 cents back." Cashier, who was now more befuddled than a lifetime ago, said "what?" Nice lady (God bless her...she was so patient) said, "The total was 22.23. I gave you 23. I only want 77 cents back." My head was screaming, "JUST GIVE HER BACK 77 CENTS!!!!! THAT'S ALL SHE WANTS!!" Ohmygod. Ohmygod. Ohmygod. Don't you guys have minus signs in your registers? If you don't, maybe it's time to upgrade your registers to have the capability of simple deduction. Or maybe provide a calculator to each register because you guys are losing money on a daily basis when you have cashiers giving money away. This is complete nonsense. Is there no accountability? How about giving your customers a self service line? Just one. One star is for the Deli man who makes those funny announcements over the PA. Today- I watch a man that works in the bakery put cookies on the shelves. He drops two containers and they open and spill on the floor. He scoops the cookies into the containers and puts them back on the shelves. I saw one woman make a disgusted face as she walked by. I thought maybe he placed them up there momentarily while he gets his body up from the knelt position it was in to retrieve the floor-cookies. No. He began to rearrange all containers, placing these two contaminated containers within all the others. I called customer service from where I was standing and told them. They said Sorry. Sorry??? That's it?? When the man walked away I grabbed the one container that was still slightly open and I walked it over to customer service, told them the name of the employee and told them that I don't know where the other container was because he had arranged it within the other containers. The woman at customer service thanked me and apologized again. I went back to that area, because I was waiting for the rotisserie chickens to be ready... no one came over to do anything about the cookies. I will never buy their bakery cookies again. read more

I then had to argue with the staff and associate manager mark for roughly 25 minutes before he finally succumbed to giving me a gift card to reimburse the double charge that had gone through to my account. never coming here again. also the garlic we bought was squished, tomatoes molded within the week and also a sweet elderly woman had come back with expired juice that had been on the shelves. seriously just save yourself some time and frustration and go to the stop and shop down the street. read more

I am 84 and very disappointed with the wonderful MB in Burlington that I am used to shopping at. I drive from Winchester to this market as I could always depend upon them. The service has been slowly deteriorating. Yesterday was a disaster! I couldn't enter the bottle return area as it was too crowded. I brought the 21 cans inside and was told they would not take them. I was told to take them home. They finally relented and informed me never to do this again. I asked two employees to help me locate an item and they said they didn't know and left. I couldn't go up and down the aisles as many people were going the wrong way and creating an unsafe distancing. That included employees. For the 3rd time in a row either the cashier or the bagger was wearing a mask under their nose. Either there are rules or not. I can't afford at my age to shop under these conditions. Burlington's food shopping industry just got much fiercer with this lovely addition. We now make a weekly treck from Waltham just to shop here (and HMart) as we await for our very own Market Basket to be finished. This location is fairly new and feels brand spanking new. From floor to ceiling, everything is in mint condition and feels very clean. Unlike it's Somerville counterpart, there's no sawdust on the floors here, instead you'll find a spacier, sleeker store which features all of the brands you want a like and at a much more affordable price that you'd find elsewhere like a Shaw's or Stop&Shop. Does it get busy here? Well.. yeah. Of course but it's far from being nearly as bad as the Somerville location where I've had to brave a half-a-mile long line of cars just to get in. Here, there's ample parking and neighboring stores as it's located in one of Burlington's many strip malls. But there's also more than meets the eye here as the staff is super friendly and they do a great job with the organizing of the items. All of the stuff on the shelves has their labels facing forward, and it's all very well and neatly stacked. It caters very well to my OCD but also makes shopping a lot easier since you won't spend as much time looking for the things you want. All in all, this place is great and I cannot wait for Waltham to get it's own location so I can go there instead although this isn't bad and allows me to also swing by HMart next door for some Asian groceries. read more

I am a huge fan of Market Basket. I've gone to two different ones now and they've been been very positive. The store is clean and organized. The lobsters were on sale for $3.99/lb so I bought 7 lobsters the first time (at Chelsea) and 6 this time. Because i didn't want to deal with cooking them at home, I had them steamed for me which took about 30 minutes because there was another batch being steamed. The service was prompt, friendly and quick. While waiting, I got some stuff from the deli which is next to the seafood area. I got a pound of turkey and also a pound of cheese, both store brand to give it a try. (my daughter told me last night they taste better than the other brands!!!) The check out service area had so many lines and people working. People got groceries by the cart full. It's crazy and yet the lines go by rather quickly. read more

They don't have Market Baskets in New York, so I didn't pay much attention to them. But in "Consumer Reports" most recent ranking of grocery store chains, Market Basket suddenly emerged as a competitor. The older Market Baskets are so-so, but the newer or renovated ones - it's easy to see why they've become so well-received. I was immediately impressed when I walked in by the great aromas and all the specialty stations on the right. The produce section is huge, including many items I would only expect to see in nearby H-Mart, and at great prices. (As crazy as it is trying to find parking in front of Market Basket, it's even crazier trying to find parking at the H-Mart.) As I walked through, I continued to be impressed by the layout, but most important by the regular and sale prices. Loved the sushi station! I also saw several employees walking around keeping the floors clean - something I haven't seen at many competitors' stores. A couple things I would like to see here: 1) For the size and business done in this store, the rest rooms are small and inconvenient. 2) The express checkouts on the far left as you walk in are immediately in front of Customer Service and the employee time clock, so you are constantly yielding a right of way to people needing to get to it. I'd suggest going to the express checkouts on the right anyway, since there's twice as many on that side. 3) The express checkouts are doubled - only the one in back has the benefit of a packer, so the front checkout moves slower than the back. read more

Bought donuts today, told cashier how many I had in the box, she enter the price, and continues to scan the rest of my order, donuts go down the belt to the bagger. The bagger literally is in my donut box, pointing to each donut and counting. Wth. See, he was going to double ck with the cashier, in their language, so I wouldn't know, and ask her if I told her I had six donuts. They do this when you buy the wood bundles too. The wood is too heavy to put on the belt so I tear off the sticker and stick the wood tag on top of my milk cap. The basket heads down to the bagger - wood on bottom of basket - and the bagger goes into panic mode. All sorts of back and forth panic talk ensues. They think I'm stealing the wood. Can't tell them I have the tag, they aren't listening to me. I watch the madness go off, until she gets to the milk and sees the wood tag. These employees think they have stock in MB. But honestly, they treat you like a thief there, and I am sick of it. read more

I like Market Basket in general, but the Burlington location will put your patience to the test. It starts with the parking lot, where no one bothers to put their carts into the designated holding areas, they just leave them scattered wherever. Drivers are very aggressive when entering and leaving the parking lot, lots of honking horns and white-knuckled drivers with angry faces. Enter the market. Clean, wide aisles and well-stocked. The bad, they must have gone out of their way to find the s-l-o-w-e-s-t cashiers on the planet. I think that may have been on the job ad..."wanted--cashiers who move at the pace of a sloth". Seriously, express lane means I want to get in and out as quickly as possible. no sense of urgency as the lines back up to the aisles. If they worked any slower they would be moving backwards. Most of them barely acknowledge your presence, I get friendlier greetings at the last remaining toll booths. read more

It is unfortunate to witness a store go downhill. It begins at the top. There is a saying in retail: "The customer is always right." This is not true at this Burlington store. The manager will always state, first and foremost, "the employee is correct and is going according to what they have been taught!" This is stated in front of the employee, in any and all situations. There are no acceptable, extenuating situations. Customers are belittled by the managers in front of other shoppers, when making simple requests. This has been noticed time and time again. The managers flaunt their longevity at MB as a reason the management of MB "loves them"! Approximately, 85% of the time anyone asks a question of an employee at MB they motion they do not speak English. Personally, I have wondered from aisle to aisle seeking someone who speaks English, to merely ask where I might locate an item....to no avail! Many of my friends and acquaintances have switched to Wegman's, as well as numerous family members. Wegman's values their customers and lets it be known! I am on my way to Wegman's. read more

I visited this place this weekend for our weekly grocery shopping. I don't often purchase the roasted chicken but I noticed that the price has risen from $3.99 to $4.67. It's still a cheap price so I purchased one. Later, when we ate it at home, we noticed that the chicken was quite tender so it was still quite worth the price. I purchased about 3.5 lbs worth of cherries as it seemed to be the cheapest in the area at $3.29/lb when compared to Stop & Shop and HMart. This place still had the 5 ears of corn for $0.99 special this weekend. Although the ears of corn seemed smaller this time, the price was still quite good so we brought a whole bunch. The taste was quite sweet when I boiled the ears of corn. Still wished that they sold Chocolate Covered Almonds like in their other branches. Fortunately, their good selection of cookies made up for this shortcoming. I also purchased a loaf of Italian bread. It was quite warm when I picked it up from the bakery section and the smell of fresh baked bread filled my car during my drive home. As expected, the fresh baked bread was quite tasty. read more

So I usually frequent the Somerville Market Basket but today we drove out here since we had a rental car. Wow what a different experience. Unclear what the other review complaining about grocery shopping induced anxiety - that person needs to come to a non-suburbia MB location. In Somerville market basket we get the same awesome prices and excellent produce (way better than Star Market or Shaw's or whatever you want to call it) except it comes at the cost of cramped aisles, leading people bumping into each other right and left with no apologies. So, basically Boston in a nutshell. In Burlington Market Basket people are so calm, don't bump into you, and they push their carts at a slow speed. When I first got in, I was zooming around like everyone does in the Somerville location....and had to calm myself down because I was getting stares. Lines were also way shorter here and people were more cheery in general. Great experience, clean supermarket and so much selection :) read more

One week ago, I gave her a picture of a cake that I wanted duplicated for a 40th birthday party. She didn't just duplicate it, she made it look even better than the photo! The design was intricate, detailed and colorful. Her work left everyone at the party shocked that the cake came from Market Basket, thinking it had to be from a high end bakery. Nope! This Market Basket has some of the worst employees I've ever encountered. There's a guy who works at the prepared food section who does not like to wear gloves. A customer in front of me had to ask him to put on some gloves before he handled her food. I decided to leave and come back a couple hours later to find this guy was still working behind the counter. I still wanted to get something from there so I asked for an order of chicken tenders and did this employee put on gloves? NO, he did not. He got a small bag and grabbed the tong and wore no gloves. I immediately told him I no longer want me order. The young woman at the customer service desk probably hates her job. I bought a couple of lottery tickets and she didn't even bother to look at me as she handed me the tickets nor did she say thank you. All she had on her face was a "don't bother me" look. I honestly hate coming here and I will avoid shopping here at all costs. I'd rather spend my hard earn money at a place that cares enough to invest and provide adequate customer service training to their employees. read more

You know on Oprah's annual Favorite Things episode, when she starts giving increasingly lavish gifts away to her entire audience, and everyone in the audience starting increasingly losing their shit, to the point where they are all simultaneously shaking and writhing on the ground and ululating and speaking in tongues? Well, that's sort of what the Lady Friend did when the sliding doors whooshed us into the the sparkling, spacious new Market Basket in Burlington, which just opened up this past week right next to the old decrepit Market Basket. Her jaw just kept dropping and dropping, her eyes were glazed over in perpetual disbelief, and it was all I could do to prop her up and keep her moving forward. It's that impressive. I imagine it's the sort of reaction people have seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, or the Taj Mahal... The old Burlington MB sorely needed putting out to pasture: the aisles (always swarmed with stalled carriages driven by equally decrepit old people) were cramped, the produce section was nearly non-existent, and their were just never enough registers opened to handle the constant crush and flux. What a difference a few acres make! I mean, maybe square miles! You could fit three of the previous Market Baskets into this new one. Cavernous and clean, the store takes at least a good 45 minutes just to circumnavigate, without doing any real shopping. We mostly gawked. We got lost in the bakery section for a good 30 minutes. The produce section alone is the size of the previous store. The aisles are probably four times as wide and theoretically should allow entire armies to march down them without impeding shoppers (except that they are still overrun by old people who can't seem to leave their card anywhere but the middle of the aisle). The selection is still as robust and diverse, maybe even more so now. The prices are still dirt cheap - I don't think they raised anything a cent. And their are probably twice as many registers, all fully manned. And there's a bakery. And a cafe, with free Wifi. And a grill/take-out place. If only they had cheap beer like the NH stores, I would say this is the happiest place in the world. But it's close (except for getting in and out of the parking lot - I would've thought they'd have maybe added a second entrance/exit). read more

Like with my wife, I have a love/hate relationship with Market Basket. Sometimes I love it, other times I wonder what the hell I got myself into. The pros greatly outweigh the cons. They are the main factors which would determine where you grocery shop. Pros: +CHEAP. Items are consistently 1-2$ less than other stores per unit or LB. +Selection. Great varied selection; whatever you are looking for is most likely going to be here with multiple choices and usually very fresh (even the fish). Cons: -Extremely long deli line, think 30-50 people on Sundays. Think 15-30 minutes on AVG. -Recently they have been so busy they occassionally run out of an item I want. Even ground beef disappeared one Sunday. -Parking lot can be tough, a lot of times you need to find someone pulling out to get in. -I have gotten stuck in aisles with my cart for literally minutes. Hell: -My shopping cart was stolen one time when left unattended for one minute. -Lines for checkout sometimes reach the shopping aisles and cause blockages to get around the store. This is with every checkout line open! All said and done, I get better food than I did when I shopped at Stop and Shop and my wallet isn't hurting from it. I never bought the Market Basket hype until I started shopping there and now I won't go anywhere else. The prices are just too good and the food is as good if not better than the other major grocery stores. If you can go during the week, do it. read more

You certainly get "More For Your Dollar" here like: - Flocks of people moving slower than the Slowski's - Customers who order 8 items at the deli (they still don't know that fat and salt is bad) - Checkout clerks who don't know the difference between a nectarine and a peach. - Customers who stop to read the circular in the high-traffic areas (between the bananas and the chicken) - Small spaces throughout the store made smaller with random displays (oh and the average customer there is larger than average). - Idiot managers who place large displays of water AFTER the checkout registers so there is no room to wheel your cart out of the store (isn't that a fire hazard?); The managers have the customer skills of a crocodile. I am surprised no one has gone postal yet. You get your essentials there but nothing too unique. I did however find fresh aloe vera in the produce dept. once. But the best reasons to go to Demoulas are the prices. read more

Why do I enjoy Market Basket of Burlington? Let me count the ways. 1. It is not Market Basket of Chelsea. 2. ^-- Which means that it is less chaotic than the average Market Basket. 3. It is 10 minutes from me. 4. It is usually devoid of geriatrics and crazy people at 8PM on Tuesday nights (which is, coincidentally, the best night to go grocery shopping). 5. It has the lowest prices and widest selection of groceries around. (No offense, Trader Joe's - I like you, too, but eggs cost $1.99 at your store. MB sells a dozen large white eggs for $1.49 [or even $1.39 if they're a special for the week]. I won't even talk about the yogurt and deli prices.) 6. I can get two weeks' worth of groceries for the bf and me for ~$100. 7. The deli guys are really nice. Many of them have been there for years and genuinely enjoy their jobs, so they'll make meat jokes with you when they take your order. (I once caught them singing Rihanna's "Pour It Up" out of amusement.) And they'll give you a hearty sample of whatever deli meats you want to try. 8. Mmmmm, bakery and hot food counter. 9. The cashiers and baggers are usually high school students in the evenings so checkout is pretty efficient. 10. They'll bag your groceries in paper AND plastic, as long as you ask for it. I'm sure there's more reasons why I rather enjoy this location, but these were the first 10 that popped into my mind. read more
